File size difference between version 3 and 4

I'd like to know how to publish a file at the smallest possible size with Captivate 4.
I have 1 file that is 9176KB published with Captivate 3. The same file published with Captivate 4 becomes 10300KB. I didn't add any functionality just publish it once saved in 4.
What is the same content ~1MB bigger with the new version? How do I make it smaller?
Thanks,

Thanks for the hint! It did make me revisit those files and now I see the reason for the small file sizes: The Apple Finder does note update the file size view once a file was added to a folder. Here's what I did:
Opened a folder full of .NEFs in detail view in Finder.
Converted them using DNG Converter
Looked at the sizes of the files as they were shown in the Finder window allready open.
Unfortunately, those file sizes are not correct. If I open a new Finder window of the same folder, file sizes are correctly reported as between 3.5 and 5 MB.

  • File size difference between DNG Converter and Lightroom Beta 4

    Hi,
I want to go the all-DNG route and am trying several things ATM. I want my files to be as small as possible, thus I disable previews and RAW embedding and enable compression in DNG Converter. In Lightroom, there are no options at all. What I do get, are pretty amazing file size differences:
Original .NEF as it came from my D70s: ~5MB
.DNG created by DNG Converter: ~1MB
    .DNG created by Lightroom: ~4MB
The very small file size in DNG Converter is the one that bother's me most. I get these small files from time to time. I checked both the DNG and the NEF in Photoshop, and they seem to be identical. So my question is: What triggers these small file sizes? Do I loose anything? Or is the Lightroom DNG converter not as advanced as the stand alone version?
Maybe this helps: I get the ridicolous small files for very dull subjects that tell the computer scientist in me that it should be easily compressable by common compression algorithms.
    Thanks for any pointers,
    Markus

  • Difference Between version 8 and cs3/4 ?

Hi I have dreamweaver 8 and I use it for all my tasks related to website development.
I just wanted to know if there is any significant difference between version 8 and cs3/4 ?
    Suggestions appreciated.

I don't think any of those you have listed are major additions to my own personal workflow in my opinion David.
Nice add-ons but it's not like 'I really need this'.
I'd like a better computer each and every year but I can still do all I need with the one I have. Of course you never want to go back once you upgrade but its not as if you can't do what is needed with an older version.
Improved css rendering? I struggle to find an improvement apart from maybe overflow:hidden; I guess it may also be down to the way you write the css. I've never really struggled with css rendering from version MX onwards, others have.
Built in css layouts? I wouldn't touch those with a barge pole personally. They can remain in the domain of the inexperienced and when they come to alter them they are so complicated they won't have a clue where to start.
Spry widgets? Again overcomplicated and used mainly by inexperienced users.
Live view/live code? Personally have no use for it.
None of those you listed would effect my workflow. But as I said it's best to download a trial and take it for a spin.
DW in my opinion doesn't have much more in the way of development to offer apart from incorporating elements which are non-essential. Its a bit like the progress of all their software; they struggle with each new release to find anything wortwhile to include.

  • What are the differences between version 9 and X of the Reader?

I have been running various releases of Version 9 of the Adobe Reader for a long time. I have noticed that when there is an update available for Version 9 and I click on the "more information" button on the update, it takes me to a web page where there is information on the latest levels of both Version 9 and Version X, but I cannot find any information on what the differences are between version 9 and X. I read the FAQ and found nothing on this, and I even searched this forum and was surprised that there were no topics on this question already.
Can someone tell me the differences between the 2 versions. I am running Windows 7; is that important as to which version of Reader I should use?

    http://www.adobe.com/products/reader.html
    http://blogs.adobe.com/asset/2010/07/introducing-adobe-reader-protected-mode.html
Both Adobe Reader 9 and Adobe Reader X work on Windows 7 .
    Hope this helps.

  • File size differences between Acrobat 5.0 and Acrobat 8.0

We have a system where we incorporate .pdf files into word documents. When we use v8.0 the .pdf files suddenly become very much larger (e.g. the word document containing the v5.0 PDFs, around 29 of them, is 1,224kb but is 2,376kb when we use v8.0 PDFs). The .PDF's are created by printing to PDF995 and then using Acrobat to open them, select a section of the page, and copy/paste them into the Word document.
Has anyone come across this before and, if so, how do we tune v8.0?

Thank you for the quick response.  We are able to get some results through the Optimizer however they are not the same.  Also we would like to keep from adding an extra step into the process.  Especially a step that adds a lot of time to the process as the Optimizer does.  In versions 7 and 8 we did not have run the Optimizer (we also did not have to do this in version 5 back in the day).  Why would 9 have to add this step?  I am really looking for a way to keep the same workflow steps.  -Dan

  • File size differences between JE 3.3.87 and

Our application when using JE 4.1.17 builds a database that is 3.5 times larger than when using JE 3.3.87.
Is this expected? Is there anything we can do with 4.1.17 to build smaller file size DB?
    Chuck Koscher

I also ran DbPrintLog on the partial 4.1.17 built Db (gona take more time to run on the ver 3 DB). What does this all mean?

  • File size problem between Acrobat 8 and 9

When I print to a PDF from Acrobat 8 I get a file size that is slightly larger than the original PDF file size.  Example a 1.6 mb file becomes a 1.7mb file.  When I print the same file in Acrobat 9 with the same settings (to my Knowledge) (setting = High Quality Print) I get a file that 36.1mb.
The reason we would print the file in the fist place is that we need to create a PDF that is ether slightly larger or slightly smaller (say 98%) of the original size.  Can anyone help us figure out why our upgraded version 9 would do this?  We also use 7 and between 7 and 8 there are no defenses but 9 makes the file ~21X the original file size.  Please see that attached JPEG for a screen shot of the file sizes.
    Thank you, -Dan

Thank you for the quick response.  We are able to get some results through the Optimizer however they are not the same.  Also we would like to keep from adding an extra step into the process.  Especially a step that adds a lot of time to the process as the Optimizer does.  In versions 7 and 8 we did not have run the Optimizer (we also did not have to do this in version 5 back in the day).  Why would 9 have to add this step?  I am really looking for a way to keep the same workflow steps.  -Dan

  • File format differences between Illustrator CS2 and CS3

Does anyone know the difference between the file format of Adobe Illustrator CS2 and CS3? Is there a document that documents this? Can someone send a link? The reason I am asking is that I have written a plug-in which saves the current CS3 document back down to CS2 so that users who are still using Adobe Illustrator CS2 can open it. However, if the same document is opened by a CS3 user, what objects, constructs or data structures are likely to be lost because the file has be converted down to CS2? Most things seem to be retained and I have yet to find a problem but if yo save manually from CS3 to CS2, Illustrator puts up a warning stating "Saving to a legacy format may cause some changes to your text layout and disable some editing features when the document is read back in". Does anyone have any more detail on this?
    Thank you

There are new features in CS 3 as opposed t CS 2 and the text engine has been improved some what in CS 3. If you have text on a path that is say curved you are going to see a loss in the spacing and way it is oriented. fixed in CS 4.
I forget some of the new features in CS 3 what was not a feature in CS 2 will be flattened when saved back.
Or the feature will simply not be available.

  • Huge cube size difference between version 7.1 and 11.1

    Hello All,
We are migrating from version 7.1 to 11.1. We did a full data export of each cube on 7.1 and did a server load on 11.1. We found that all the cubes on the new 11.1 server are almost 50% in size compare to same cube on 7.1 server. We did a detailed drill through and found that the there isn't any data loss on the cubes on the latest server. Please let us know if this smaller cube size is normal or did we miss something somewhere? I appreciate your comments!!!
    Thanks!

Your cube was probably really fragmented and reloading all the data will have reduced the fragmentationYup. You can prove this by taking those export files and recreating the database on your 7.1.x server. I'll bet you find the same thing.
Take a gander at this post re fragmentation.
I'd add to that posting that MaxL's force restructure is another way to defrag a database; I personally like the flat file export as I can be reasonably sure backup software won't choke on a flat file.

  • Discrepancies in total file size report between v$asm_file and dba_data_files

    Hi Friends,
I have an issue, where there are differences of around (70 GB - 90 GB) between what v$asm_file is reporting and what dba_data_files reports. (I have taken TEMP files into account as dba_data_files does not report TEMP files), but still there are differences. Does any one know why is that ? I have checked two RAC installations and its the same in both of them.
    Regarsd,
    Rose

Can you give the output of :
    select * from dba_data_files;
    select * from v$asm_file;

  • Is there a size difference between Iphone 4 and Iphone 4S?

I want to buy a phone case for my IPhone 4, but, the case i want is only sold in size IPhone4S.
Do you think if i bought a 4S case for a 4, it would fit?
The only difference i believe there is between the phones, is that the volume buttons are slightly moved, will that matter?

That would depend on the case and iPhone 4 model.  The buttons and mute switch on the iPhone 4 ATT model are located a little bit different than the iPhone 4S.  The locations on the Verizon iPhone 4 and the iPhone 4S are the same.  Most cases for the iPhone 4 and 4S now are designed to accommodate both setups, so chances are you won't have a problem.  If you have an ATT iPhone make sure the case has slots for the volume buttons and mute switch rather than small holes for the buttons and switch.

  • Partition Size difference between Disk Utility and Finder

I installed a new hard drive in my MacBook Pro (2.33ghz late 2006). The new drive is 320gb.
In Disk Utility it shows up correctly as a single partition (297.65GB). However, when I hit command+I in finder on the disk it shows its size as 176.88GB - a 120GB difference.
Anyone any idea what the problem could be?
    Thanks
    Shay
PS I used to have a bootcamp partition on the drive but have removed it, maybe this has something to do with it.

In DU is it showing the size of the DRIVE or the partition on the drive?
I'd clone the partition you have to an external and then repartition and reformat that drive to get it all back to one partition. How big was the boot camp partition?
