File size in .cp project files

Hi,
I noticed that the file size of my .cp project does not
decrease even after the removal of slides. When I cut a 29 slide
project to ony 4 slides, the file size of the project remained the
same (identical).
How can I reduce the size of my .cp project files?
Could using a .cptl template that was created in a prior
version of Captivate cause problems with the project file size?
Thanks,
Luke

Hi Luke
I've seen reports here in these forums where some claim
clicking File > Save As... once or twice will result in a file
size reduction. Personally, I've never had it work for me. But it
may be worth trying to see.
The only sure fire way I'm aware of to clear elements and
reduce the size is to open a second instance of Captivate. Create a
fresh blank project using the same dimensions as the larger one.
Then copy slides from the existing project to the new. But this
probably breaks any branching you may have.
Cheers... Rick

How do I find a file size for a aperture project in its entirety ????

You can't. The Aperture library is a combination of database and flat files, a project can be split among multiple files in combination with other projects. The size of any of those files (or a sum of the files) would have no meaning concerning the size of a project.
BTW typing in a large bold font like you did is seen by many in then on-line community as a sign of shouting and is considered bad form. • File size... event files vs. project files... finalizing... help!

    Hi,
I'm trying to create some room on my hard drive, and I see that I have 80GB of files sitting in my events folder of iMovie. If I finalize my projects, will they take up less room than that original footage? Can I finalize everything and then trash all of the event footage? (I won't need to go back and reuse the originals... it's mostly individual band songs that each are their own project.) But... are those finalized projects re-editable if I want to add something later?
Thanks for your help - I just want to make sure I'm optimizing my hard drive space. It's confusing to me where these different files are kept!
I'm in Lion running iMovie 11.

+Is there a particular reason why it makes sense for the Browser to use one way, and the Finder to use the other?+
Most likely it is down to which particular call is used by the programer to ascertain file size and therefore the way that file size data is returned to the app. Don't forget that the FCP's basic code is pretty darn old now and predates current best practices for file size reporting.
+And why, staying with the above example, does the Media Manager come up with its own unique measurement altogether, different from BOTH of the others (or is that just part of its charm)?+
Weird huh? And here's the bit you won't like ... I don't see the same discrepancy. On my system Media Manager and the Browser seem to report file sizes consistently.
+Also -- am I correct in noticing that under Snow Leopard, Disk Utility has switched from one measurement scheme to the other? (DU suddenly seems to be seeing my 500GB drives as having a single-volume partition of -- gasp -- 500GB! Who would've thought?)+
Yup, its a brave new world.

  • Maximum File Size of .dv Import File to Premiere Pro CS5?

    Hello Community:
I searched this forum and Google in general, but could not find an absolute limit on the media file size I can import into a Premiere Pro CS5 project.  I'm scheduled to process the ".DV" recording from a conference, which could go on for hours.  I have asked the camera man to break up the recording in one-hour segments, but I'm getting some push-back.
Is there a specific size limitation on importing an NTFS file structure .dv file in Premiere Pro CS5?
    Thanks,
    Rich Locus

Same issue. I previously used  NeoScene to convert .mov files from a Canon 5d mark ii to the easier to edit with Gopro Cineform .avi format in Premiere Pro CC. They used to work fine but now Premiere only recognizes a very small part of the file. The first 18 seconds of an 8 minute file.
I tried importing the file to a new clean scene and the problem remained.
I need to be able to work with this footage. Somehow Premiere is no longer able to properly read clips it used to be able to read.
I would like to hear something from Adobe on this issue.
EDIT: I just updated my GoPro software to 2.0 and the problem was instantly solved. The same might apply to TechSmith.
EDIT 2: Upon rendering the edit I discovered that while the entire length of the clip was represented it in fact stopped playing new frames at the same frame as it had before. So no luck. Updating GoPro Cineform made the length of the file display correctly (7min) but did not actually let me play the file beyond the first 18 seconds - it just showed the same frame.
I deleted all preview files and cleaned Media Cache files (under media/preferences) - this didn't help.
Finally I made the file offline, closed Premiere, changed the file name and re-opened Premiere. Then I right clicked over the file in the Project window and chose replace file to re-connect. The file finally came in correctly. I've now rendered it and it runs through the entire 7 min.

  • FLV file size vs longer WMV file

When I created a FLV file of a live presentation (narrator on
screen demonstrating products, etc), it came out to 8 mb for a
320x240 window size. However, one of my trainers just recorded a
Camtasia (or was it Captivate, we have both) presentation, which is
basically a narrated Powerpoint presentation. It is over an hour
long, full screen and only 6 MB! This is a major difference. Does
anyone know why this would be? I have a couple of theories, but I'd
like to hear from someone else.

Sure - I use both so here you go:
FLV is a movie file. There are so many still images depending
on FPS and there is also a sound file embedded inside (so to
speak). So if you have a 1 minute video at 30 FPS - you have 1800
still images in a row that are compressed.
Captivate creates a swf file, basically a lot of keyframes
and some still images. If you created a file in flash with a few
backgrounds and some mouse movements the file will not be that big.
Every background used is just a still image, so there is probably
about 1700 less images used for this project.
So, Captivate is not creating a movie, but a swf file like
Flash. If everything was exported from Captivate as a mov, mpg, or
avi the file size would increase dramatically. The sound is also
probably encoded very low, like 128k which makes the file more
    compact.
Hopefully now you can see why there is a big size difference
    in the two.

  • How to declare variable in solution file for use in project files.

    Hi Folks,
Apologies if this is not the right place to ask, but I would like to declare a variable in my solution file that can used by all of the projects (prof files) in that solution.
More specifically in the project files, references are stored using relative paths which cause issues if they don't exist. I would like to replace the relative paths with a variable set in the solution file that can easily be changed when the solution is
    built in a different location.
So I would like to replace "../../../SomeProject"  with "$(SomeLocation)/SomeProject"  but set the $(SomeLocation) in the solution file.

    Andy

    Hello Andy,
Here is a common sln file:
Microsoft Visual Studio Solution File, Format Version 12.00
    # Visual Studio 2013
    VisualStudioVersion = 12.0.30723.0
    MinimumVisualStudioVersion = 10.0.40219.1
    Project("{FAE04EC0-301F-11D3-BF4B-00C04F79EFBC}") = "wpf_EntityFramework", "wpf_EntityFramework\wpf_EntityFramework.csproj", "{A282940A-5F76-4FF8-9568-8B7D14133259}"
    EndProject
    Global
    GlobalSection(SolutionConfigurationPlatforms) = preSolution
    Debug|Any CPU = Debug|Any CPU
    Release|Any CPU = Release|Any CPU
    EndGlobalSection
    GlobalSection(ProjectConfigurationPlatforms) = postSolution
    {A282940A-5F76-4FF8-9568-8B7D14133259}.Debug|Any CPU.ActiveCfg = Debug|Any CPU
    {A282940A-5F76-4FF8-9568-8B7D14133259}.Debug|Any CPU.Build.0 = Debug|Any CPU

    EndGlobalSection
    GlobalSection(SolutionProperties) = preSolution
    HideSolutionNode = FALSE
    EndGlobalSection
    EndGlobal
And the Global Interface in the solution file is actually used for Visual Stuido add-ins. To know details, please read the following MSDN article:
    1. Persisting Information in Projects and Solutions
Here you can find "If the Globals object is associated with the
Solution2 object, then the value persists in the .sln file. These values are persisted when the solution file is saved."
    2.
    Solution2 Interface
    It's about the solution interface.
As you can see although they may save something to your solution file, it is not intended for you to use it in your project.
What's your projec type and can you alter to use some common ways?
    For example:
    1. If it is in project level, set your value public so that all classes can access the value.
    2. Or you can choose to create a xml/text file or any file that you can read by code, and then read the value out from that file.
It will be much better than thinking about set value in the solution file.

  • Can't drag files from desktop to project files window

Im using the latest premiere pro version, 7.2, and while I can drag files from my desktop to the project window in premiere 6, for some reason its no longer possible in premiere 7.2
whenver I try to drag audio or video files from my desktop or any folder to the project files window at the bottom left I get a forbidden sign or circle with a diagonal so the only way to import files is through the import menu, which is less straightforward and slowlier
Ill be happy to provide more data if required
    thanks
PS: obviously Ive already created a sequence so the problem is not that

The latest version is 7.2.2 (33)
Upgrade to that and see if it helps.

  • Reducing file size produces a larger file (?)

I have a 3.8mb pdf (created in Acrobat 9) that I'd like to reduce in size. It's text only (about 450 pages) and when I select "Reduce file size" Acrobat X goes through steps to optimize it for the web, and it comes out 5.1 mb. Not really much of a reduction in size if it's now a meg and a half larger than the original. Is there a better way to do this that I'm missing here?

There are many things that could cause the issues. Under the Optimize option (or wherever it went in AAX) there is an audit function that allows you to see where the storage is going. You could compare before and after optimization to see what was happening. You say 450 pages is not much, but that all depends on what is there. If it is a lot of graphics, it could be huge. If you use a lot of different fonts, that can cause extra storage of all those fonts. So there are many variables and sometimes they do get bigger -- happened to me too. Unfortunately, when you are trying to make things smaller, you are often under the gun and don't have time to diddle around. Good luck.

  • Processing Multiple Files for more than 100 Receive Location - File Size - 25 MB each file, file type DML

    Hi Everybody
    Please suggest.
For one of our BizTalk interface, we have around 120 receive locations.  We are just moving (*.dml) files from the source to destination without doing any processing.
We receive lots of files in different receive locations and in few cases the file size will be around 25 MB and so while moving these large files, the CPU usage is varying between 10% to 90+% and the time consuming for this single huge file is around
10 to 20 minutes.  This solution was already in place and was designed by the previous vendor for moving the files to their clients.  Each client has 2 receive locations and they have around 60 clients.  Is there any best solution for implementing
this with in BizTalk or outside BizTalk? Please suggest.
I am also looking for how to control the number of files which gets picked from the BizTalk receive location.  For example, If we have say 1000 files in receive location and we want to pick at a time only 50 files only (batch of 50) then is it possible?
because currently it is picking all the files available in source location, and one of the process is dropping thousands of files in to the source location, so we want to control  the number of files getting picked (or even if we can control to pick the
number of KBs).  Please guide us on how we can control the number of files.

    Hi Rajeev,
25 MB per file, 1000 files. Certainly you got to revisit the reason for choosing BizTalk.
“the time consuming for this single huge file is around 10 to 20 minutes”
     - This is a problem.
You could consider other file transfer options like XCopy or RobotCopy etc if you want to transfer to another local/shared drive. Or you can consider using SSIS
which does comes with many adapters to send to destination system depending on their destination transfer protocol.
But in your case, you have some of the advantages that you get with BizTalk. For your scenario, you have more source systems (more Receive locations), with BizTalk
it’s always easier to manage these configurations, you can easily enable and disable them when a need arise. You can easily configure tracking; configure host instances based on load etc. So you can consider following design for your requirement. This design
would suit you well since you’re not processing the message and just pass it through from source to destination:
Use a custom pipeline component in the Receive Locations which receives the large file.
Stores the received file into disk and creates a small XML metadata message that contains the information about where the large file is stored.
The small XML message is then published into the
    message box db
instead of the large file. Let the metadata file also contain the same context properties as the received file.
In the send port, use another custom pipeline component that process the metadata xml file, retrieve the location of the disk where the file is stored, access the file and send it to destination.
Read the following article on this design..
    http://www.codeproject.com/Articles/180333/Transfer-Large-Files-using-BizTalk-Send-Side
This way you don’t need to publish the whole message into message box DB which would considerably reduce the processing time and utilises host instance to process
more files. This way you can still get the advantages of BizTalk and still process large files.
And regarding your question of restricting the Receive location to handles the number of files from receives location. No it’s not possible.

    M.R.Ashwin Prabhu

  • Maximum File Size for a Captivate file before the graphics begin to get replaced with rectangles

    I have Captivate 6
I published a 39 slide file with audio to an .exe.
    It was 130 mb.
The first part of the course was fine, but when I got to slide 20, the graphics were replaced with a bright red rectangle.
What is the maximum file size before this happens?
(I ended up converting each audio file to mp3. That reduced the file size to 88 MB)

That red rectangle is usually due to the slide needing to be set to High Quality 24bit.  I don't believe it has anything to do with the filesize.

  • File size (using java.io.File)

    Hello all,
When I want to create an app to be used as file browser, I should like to know the size of a file in a directory. The java.io.File class gives me quite some functionality, but not the functionality to display the file size.
Does anyone know of a default class that has the functionality to display the file size?
When no such class exists, I should need to develop it myself. From the top of my head it should be something like this:
    int size = 0;
    int aChar = 0;
    FileReader reader = new FileReader (theFile);
    while (reader.ready() )
        aChar = reader.read()
        size++;
}The variable size gives me now the number of characters in a file. But this should be done for each file in a particular directory. But does that not ask much CPU performance? Does anyone have an alternative?
    Looking forward to your answer
    Michel

Hi, I'm having the exact same problem, except that I'm doing a fax system so I can't copy a file while the file is still open. So to check to see if the file is open I have to check the file size in bytes then wait a second and check the file size again. If the file sizes differ then I have to check the next file otherwise I can copy the file. I had a look at the length() method but that will only return the actual length of the file name, not the size of the contents of the file which I need, can anyone please help? Say the file name is 16 ad an a or anything to the file name, if you the call the length() method again it will return 17.

  • Why does Acrobat X Reduce File Size make significantly bigger files?

Drawings at AO size, probably from AutoCad, each pdf ranging in size from 600 to 800kb.  No encription.  No attachments.  No embedded fonts.  Reprinted them through Acrobat X Pro to A3 then combined them. Binder size was about 5MB, too large for my client's email system.
Ran the binder through Reduce File size with compatibilty to Version 7 and the binder blew out in size by 20%.  Increased the version compatibility to Version 8 and it increased yet again, to Version 9 stayed the same as 8.
Optimised the same binder and it blew out yet again.  Auditing showed no difference no matter what i deleted.

If you have a file made from AutoCAD it is probably just line drawing. There is really no scope to reduce the size of these (except by taking away lines, which wouldn't be popular). I don't know why it gets bigger, but it's unlikely to get smaller, so I'd recommend finding a different way to deliver the file (many web sites exist for delivering large files).

  • Why do copied files show different file sizes than the original files?

When I copy files (to another drive, folder, etc.) some show the same file size as the original, but others don't.
I'm guessing this is not abnormal, but what causes it?
    Thanks.

    Hi dymar,
Copying to another Drive is understandable, they may have a differentnumber of Blocks allocated per file, for insnce a one Byte file might take up 512 bytes, 1024 Bytes, etc, but a Get info should show the actual size of the file within that/those blocks.
If copying to another Format, like MS-DOS, Forks may be lost also.
