File size variations in Cs5, Bridge, & Mac when opening D800e raw files
I am getting extreme variations in file size when I open my D800e nefs in photoshop cs5, & Bridge. When I highlight the same nefs on my Mac(10.6.8) & "get info", I get another file size. D800e files are about 103 MB each at 8 bit, but can vary dramatically when I open them in Bridge or Cs5. Any ideas? Thanks!
Thank you for responding. I understand what you are saying. After more attempts at resizing nef files into tifs, and then restarting my computer, everything seems to be ok. However, when I make a four shot stitched pan with the D800e, I encounter the same problem even after downsizing to a more manageble file size. Each photo in the pan is originally 103MB. After resizing the 4 shots to 30MB each, I end up with a pan that is about 75MB in CS5 after cropping. When I highlight this pan & "get info" on my Mac desktop, the image size is 300-400 MB. I can ignore this for personal use, but if I have to send it to a client via the internet its a problem. I have made stitched pans with my D3s with no problem at all, so I guessing I have to switch cameras when I want to stitch shots together. If anyone has any more comments feel free!

Camera raw doesn't open when opening a raw file in photoshop
I have a mac mini and am using the latest version of lightroom and have an EOS70d. The problem I experience is that when I open a raw file from lightroom it goes directly into photoshop without launching the camera raw plugin and when I manually launch the camera raw plugin from within photoshop, i do not see the details from the metadata in the image, such as colour temperature etc and there is no blue link at the bottom of the screen. I have tried the version of camera raw included in photoshop asnd the latest beta version, it's the same in both and also the same on my windows machine. I have also tried with raw images from my other cameras including ones taken a long time ago and that have previously opened in camera raw and they don't. Please help
GrahamAs I said, read my post "Send me both ses files (no media) via my aatranslator dot com dot au web site". I made no mention of saving "frozen track SES files without any media".
I understand your frustration but I only made an offer to assist.
Now if you want me to have a look at your ses file to see if I can work out what is going on then send it to me without sending any of the media associated with it.
If not I'm happy either way.
BTW
The idea of sending 2 ses files is to compare the one which can't find the frozen track with one that has just been saved and apparently includes the frozen track. -
Camera RAW Crashing CS5 when opening MarkII Raw file
Hoping someone can help me figure out why 1 out of 5 times I open a 5dMarkII RAW File(s) CS5 crashes? Running a MAC Pro Tower, 2.8ghz Quad-Core intel xeon, 7 gb 1066 mhz ddr3, OSx10.6.7, CS5 v12 x64. I have 4 internal drives installed: 1tb system drive, 1 500gb drive dedicated as the CS5 Scratch Disc, another 500gb as storage for my in-progress jobs and then a 2tb drive running time machine backing up my storage and system drive. I've tried creating a new user and reinstalling CS5 and it still happens. CS5 also crashed occasionally when I am trying to save a file. Please help! Thanks, kevin
I just installed the latest updates yesterday but I do usually stay on top of those. We'll see if the latest one makes a difference. Below is a crash log from yesterday - Thanks!

After upgrading to OSX-10.8 (mountain lion) CS5 Bridge Crashes when opening.
I know others have commented on this "issue". I also notice that elsewhere on the web, there are reports of it being a Radeon ATI issue. I've tried repairing links / permissions, tried re-installing the latest Bridge update... All to no avail.
PLEASE help Adobe. My CS5 Bridge is useless now. I'm seriously contemplating restoring 10.7.

Have you made your user Library-folder visible in Finder?
I did that in the Terminal and shortly after that the crashes started for me.
I just updated to 10.8.2 and that made the user Library-folder invisible again.
At the same time Bridge started behaving properly.
Not saying that's anything other than a coincidence. -
What's supposed to happen when opening a raw file twice?
Let's say I open a .CR2 file through Camera Raw into a document, and edit it a bit. The document name is the raw file name.
Now I go to File - Open... or File - Open Recent - ... menu and choose the same .CR2 file again.
Sometimes I get a new run of Camera Raw leading to the creation of a new document.
Sometimes it just makes my prior document window current.
How's it really supposed to work?
Other users: How does it work for you if you do this?
Personally I'd prefer the first of the two behaviors. If I want to open a new document from the file (implied by my choosing File - Open...) then I'd rather not have to save the document as a different name before opening the .CR2 file again.
It doesn't seem randomly intermittent, per se - if it's decided to be in the "make window current" mode doing it 10 times will yield the same thing - but I haven't noticed what triggers the difference in behavior.
Anyone have any insights as to what's up with this?
-NoelFor me, on Mac, the second (or more) time I open an image from Bridge or from Photoshop's Recent menu, it opens the image in ACR (7.2) a second time and appends a -2 to the file name once opened in Photoshop. Each time the image is opened up again, it adds an appended -x number. I'm pretty sure this is the expected behavior...
-
I would like to be able to convert to lab when opening a raw file.
It's time consuming to go to mode, then lab, for each file I open from Raw in photoshop. It would be great to have this as an option in the Raw processor.
Thank you for the suggestion. I have done that and its a good idea. I wanted to simplify my workflow and file clutter and thought it would be easier to speed through. Thank you.

Cs5 Bridge won't recognize Nikon raw file (NRW) from Coolpix P340.
I want to upload my RAW (NRW) files from my Nikon Coolpix P340 but Bridge CS5 doesn't recognize these as readable. Is there an update available from either adobe or Nikon that anyone is aware of? Thanks.
Not possible in CS5

Bridge does not open camera raw files
I am having this issue with the bridge not opening cr2 files in acr. I have a new mac and installed CS6 with 7,4 acr. Has anyone come up with a solution to this bug?
The error message is :
camera raw editing is not enabled camera raw editing requires that a qualifying product has been launched once to enable this feature
I really would prefer to not uninstall this product and it is not the case that I have another trial copy. I have searched my computer and cannot find any.
Thanks for any new ideas on this bug.I noticed that there are still adobe folders for photoshop and premiere on the computer. Should I just delete those folders?
Use Easy Find (Devon) and run Adobe in search field. From the list select the folders that you have doubt about and choose Show in finder option. Then look at the content. If it are custom settings like actions, tools, brushes best keep them save.
But to be totally on the save side select all search result and copy them to a separate disk as Back Up so you can always find some lost customized settings back. All other deleted files should be reinstalled as per new install on new disk.
I would like to get it right this time. I was also wondering if I can still download the dmg directly from adobe or is that not available anymore.
If you have bought a download version of the Master Collection for CS6 then their should be a possibility to download it again using your Adobe ID. The new CC can be downloaded again using ACC.
Otherwise you have to contact Adobe customer support for a new copy or download. -
Lower quality when opening canon raw w/ aperture instead of canon software
hi,
i just shoot a two days performance with a canon 5d, raw files and imported successfully all images into aperture. at first everything looks good but if i use the canon digital photo professional software that came with the camera i get better saturation, contrast, and detailed images. the difference is very visible if i use photoshop (which i always do).
why is aperture not having a similar quality images when opening canon raw files?
is there anything i can do to make my workflow easy. i feel now that i have to use aperture only to select the best images. when i got my selection, i reopen the selected raw files (from the memory cards) using canon software, and then transfer all converted raw's to photoshop.
any ideas to make my workflow lighter without compromising quality?
Thanksejamas,
A few things to keep in mind -
*DPP vs. Aperture: Image previews when images are not at 100% -> DPP will appear much sharper/crisper then they actually are. You need to view at 100% to see the image accurately. Aperture will appear softer than they actually are (especially in comparison to DPP). Again, you need to view at 100% to get an accurate sense of how the image will look.
*As others have said. If you've customized the settings in your 5D then DPP will honor those. Aperture will not. That's the case with any third-party raw convertor.
*Images in a third-party convertor (Aperture, ACR, C1, Lightroom, etc.) will never match the OEM convertor (DPP, Nikon Capture, etc.) exactly. They use different color engines.
*Your findings to not mesh with my experience per se. I shoot with 1Ds M 2's and have found Aperture, in general, to be the way to go. The color is excellent, the tonal range far exceeds that of DPP and the controls in Aperture have far more finesse than anything in DPP. It's not as crash prone as DPP and if Aperture does crash you don't loose your work from that session (in DPP you loose anything done since your last save). Like any raw convertor you need to learn it inside and out before you draw any conclusions about it.
*I assume you are working on a color calibrated monitor and have all your color management ducks in a row?.....

When opening a Photoshop file fthrough Bridge, how can I control which version of Photoshop the file will open in?
I store my PSD files adjacent to the original RAW file from which it was derived.
If I open the file folder and double click on that PSD file, it opens in CS6. But,if I use Bridge (CS6) to navigate to and open the same file, it first opens Photoshop CS5 and then opens that PSD file in CS5.
How can I control which Photoshop will open a file I select when opening it through Bridge?.Interesting, but it doesn't give a clue what I'm supposed to do. No Photoshop ducuments listed.
Look at the PSD file on the location Curt provided and search for Photoshop Document. Next to it ideally should show Adobe Photoshop CS6 if you have Bridge CS6 open. Click on it to provide the fly out menu and choose the correct Photoshop from the list.
But probably something went wrong with your install. By default Bridge chooses the latest version of PS to open its file in.
Maybe a reset of the preferences might also help you. Can you provide more details about OS version etc.
And do you have a good reason for keeping your Raw and finished files in the same location. Personally I keep them apart and use a proper file name convention (yyyymmdd and details) so I can easily search for the DNG files in my archive if I needed them but I don't make mistakes in opening the wrong one -
I have CS3 and when I try to open Canon Raw files in Bridge, I am unable to do so.
i have cs3 and i am unable to open canon raw files. please help.
What camera generated your Canon raw files.
A lot more information about your hardware and software is needed.
BOILERPLATE TEXT:
If you give complete and detailed information about your setup and the issue at hand,
such as your platform (Mac or Win),
exact versions of your OS, of Photoshop (not just "CC", but something like CC2014.v.2.2) and of Bridge,
your settings in Photoshop > Preference > Performance
the type of file you were working on,
machine specs, such as total installed RAM, scratch file HDs, total available HD space, video card specs, including total VRAM installed,
what troubleshooting steps you have taken so far,
what error message(s) you receive,
if having issues opening raw files also the exact camera make and model that generated them,
if you're having printing issues, indicate the exact make and model of your printer, paper size, image dimensions in pixels (so many pixels wide by so many pixels high). if going through a RIP, specify that too.
a screen shot of your settings or of the image could be very helpful too,
etc.,
someone may be able to help you (not necessarily this poster, who is not a Windows user).

I downloaded the new version of bridge and it wont open the raw files on my mac.
hello and thank you for your suggestion. I have tried it and, when trying to open a program which I previously was able to, still get the following message:
Remote XUL
This page uses an unsupported technology that is no longer available by default in Firefox.
Please contact the website owners to inform them of this problem.
Seems unbelievable that I previously had no problem and now I do. Have you any suggestions to overcome this? Do you think I can go back further in Firefox history to get a version that will make it possible to access this. Many thanks! Lynn -
I publish a 41mb InDesign newsletter monthly into interactive pdf. It always becomes a file size of 4mb, 10% of original, when I save to pdf. This month my newsletter is 41mb and it drops to 11mb, 25% of original. I have re-sized all pictures, deleted pages separately, have gotten the file size down to 16mb and it drops to 7mb, 45% of original.
I have gone back and saved Feb and March and it saves to 10% of original, as it did before, and I use the same mechanism to save now.
I have gone to Acrobat Pro and optimized down to 8.8mb, but the quality is not acceptable.
What other variable is there that I haven't discovered? My daughter has had her Razr for about 9 months now. About two weeks ago she picked up her phone in the morning on her way to school when she noticed two cracks, both starting at the camera lens. One goes completely to the bottom and the other goes sharply to the side. She has never dropped it and me and my husband went over it with a fine tooth comb. We looked under a magnifying glass and could no find any reason for the glass to crack. Not one ding, scratch or bang. Our daughter really takes good care of her stuff, but we still wanted to make sure before we sent it in for repairs. Well we did and we got a reply from Motorola with a picture of the cracks saying this was customer abuse and that it is not covered under warranty. Even though they did not find any physical damage to back it up. Well I e-mailed them back and told them I did a little research and found pages of people having the same problems. Well I did not hear from them until I received a notice from Fed Ex that they were sending the phone back. NOT FIXED!!! I went to look up why and guess what there is no case open any more for the phone. It has been wiped clean. I put in the RMA # it comes back not found, I put in the ID #, the SN# and all comes back not found. Yet a day earlier all the info was there. I know there is a lot more people like me and all of you, but they just don't want to be bothered so they pay to have it fix, just to have it do it again. Unless they have found the problem and only fixing it on a customer pay only set up. I am furious and will not be recommending this phone to anyone. And to think I was considering this phone for my next up grade! NOT!!!!

Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen!
My question concerns the impossibility to open RAW-files directly from the program Adobe Bridge. At the moment when you open a RAW-file from Adobe Bridge by double-clicking, RAW-file is opened only in Photoshop. In the settings Adobe Bridge - in "open RAW-files by double-clicking in Adobe Camera Raw» box is checked. When you try any changes in the settings Adobe Bridge system displays a message:
Bridge's parent application is not active. Bridge requires that a qualifying product has been launched at least once to enable this feature.
The entire line of Adobe products on my computer updated to the latest updates. Previously, a family of products Adobe Photoshop on your computer is not set. Computer - PC, Windows 7 Enterprises.<moved from Adobe Creative Cloud to Bridge General Discussion>
