File synchronisation between several devices

Good afternoon
I have a MacBook Pro and currently use FreeFileSync to backup/synchronise files between my Mac and an external hard drive and a NAS drive.
Whilst this works OK I was wondering if there was anything out there that may be a little slicker or faster?
To be clear the external hard drive is used to back up not only my Mac but also a couple of windows laptops, as does my NAS drive thus I don't believe Time Machine or CCC is suitable.
Any suggestions as to a good app that would do the job?
Many thanks in anticipation.
Martin

  • Can you use a Mac Mini to share documents between several devices? iPhones, MacBooks, iPads, etc...? We are a home based business with several locations across the state and are having Google Drive issues, looking into Mac Mini options.

We are having Google Drive issues (some files won't sync) and it's causing us trouble with our business communication. Is there any way to use a Mac Mini to share documents between two people in different areas similar to google drive? Would this just be done through iCloud?

If you use Numbers, Pages and KeyNote it si very easy to sync those document among all the Apple devices. You need montain Lion on the Mac  and at least iOS 5 on the mobile devices.
I show those document on my Mac, iPad 4 and iPhone 4S

  • Time synchronisation (between several clients)

I am trying to build a test suite to make some performance measurements. I need some way of getting several clients (say 10-100) to synchronise with each other and begin performing operations against a server simultaneously (or as near as possible).
Can anyone help please??? I have some Java experience with RMI, which I think will be a part of the solution, but I don't know how to time sync.
    Many thanks for any suggestions,

  • Address book synchronising between several Macs

I have the address book for our company on a server. I would like to synchronise address books in both directions.
Example. Computer 1 changes an entry in the address book. I want this to than show up on the server and on computer 2. Same if Computer 2 would make a change.
Is this possible? Any tips as to how to do this?
I noted there is a sync possibility with a .Mac account. This we do not have. I am also not sure if it would be possible to do with a .Mac account, but would prefer a solution that would not involve a .Mac account.
    Any ides or suggestions?
    Thanks

Take a look at MySync. This application exactly replicates the .Mac Sync experience for all six data types without the requirement for a .Mac account:

It's a locally installed and controlled client-server—or, probably more correctly, master-slave—environment with support for Rendezvous and both intranet and internet-wide data transfers.

  • Can I really use iCloud to easily transfer and synch Mac and PC files on several devices - including my iPad and PCs?

    Hello Everyone
I am a novice iPad User because of 2 reasons, which are the only reasons I use my PCs at all!! The first reason is because of the great difficulty, almost impossibility, I have in getting files (Mac and PC - Msoft/Lotus) to tranfer and synch via the internet between my iPad and home & work laptop. Without going into too much detail will iCloud (and iTunes) solve this file transfer and synch problem?
Secondly I have some e-mail issues when using different ISPs, but this question can wait until the other (above) has been solved - if this is possible.
If there is anyone who can advise me on iCloud/iTunes I would be most grateful.
    Thanks

With a new way to share iWork documents between your devices using iCloud, the iWork.com public beta service will no longer be available. As of July 31, 2012, you will no longer be able to access your documents on the iWork.com site or view them on the web.

    A. Save a document using, say, numbers, on Dropbox instead of iCloud?
You can't do that, but that isn't any different from any other type of document (with the exception of photos) with dropbox on an iOS device, that's a limitation of the dropbox app, not of iCloud. That's not the same as iWork not working with dropbox which is what you stated originally.

  • Synchronisation between Microsoft Outlook 2007 and iTunes 9.1 doesn't work

    Hi everybody,
Since I've upgraded iTunes from 9.0 to 9.1, the synchronisation between my iPhone 3GS 3.1.3 and Microsoft Outlook 2007 (running on Windows 7) doesn't work anymore for Contacts, Calendars and Notes.
I've tried several procedures (uninstall completely iTunes and Outlook, an iPhone restore, ...) but without success.
I've noticed in my Windows Event Viewer this message :

  • File transfers between two 10.9 Macs over FRITZ!Box AVM 7270 painfully slow, any ideas?

I am using a FRITZ!Box AVM 7270 as my WLAN Router and Internet access point.
Internet download rates are excellent (6 MB/sec), e.g. iTunes HD trailer playback starts immediately. However, local WiFi file transfers between my two Macs (2011 MB Air, 2012 Mac Mini Server) are embarrassingly slow. I typically see 60 kbit per second (even when no other transfers, up- or downloads occur). Copying just one 50 MB PDF from one Mac to another takes ten minutes.
The FRITZ interface shows that both Macs are connected using 802.11n (104 Mbit/s), signal strength is good.
I first suspected a problem with Apple's AFP protocol that was mentioned in several forums. But in the meantime, I have upgraded both Macs to Mavericks, which uses SMB as default. But even connecting via SMB "smb://mac1.local" has the same results: Dead-slow transfers. Activity Monitor shows some peaks at 150 kb/s when transferring files, but it's almost dead in between.
The problem occurs when copying in both directions (Mac Mini <> MB Air).
    Any ideas?

    I think you're right!
    Thanks for the tip!:-)

  • Keyboard shortcuts synchronising between iOS and OS X?!

I got a  super big problem.
I have set many keyboard shortcuts in my iPhone. I just bought a new iMac recently. When I set the same iCloud account as my iPhone, the keyboard shortcuts in iPhone was synchronised to iMac!! I can see those shortcuts in setting/keyboard/text --- But I don't want them here!!
I've tried to remove all from my iMac, but since I re-login my iCloud account those shortcuts will come back soon or one day later.
I also tried to create another iCloud account. But as long as I use the same account in iPhone and iMac, the shortcuts appears in my iMac!!
Is there any method to remove them permanently?

Is there a setting change that will allow a bluetooth connection between my two devices (iMac & iPad), or a WiFi setting?
Yes. Bluetooth needs to be on, bluetooth sharing needs to be enabled, and both devices need to be discoverable in order to pair the devices and share files. On your Mac, System Preferences > Bluetooth. On your iPad  Settings > Bluetooth.
I am trying to share all types of files easily between all of my Apple products.

  • Transfer/ Synchronizing eBooks between different devices

    Hi,
Currently I have Digital Edition installed on my Win8 Dell Laptop, Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1, and Apple iPad 3, and sign in with the same Adobe account. I have downloaded some ACS encrypted eBooks, in both PDF and ePub format. Anybody have any idea on how to trasnfer those eBooks between those devices. From Adobe help I can only find solution on transferring eBooks between PC and eReader, not PC and tablet. I try connect PC and my tablets, while the Digital Edition seems cannot recognize the tablets, thus cannot transfer from PC to tablets. Anybody can help me with these

    Hmmm....  Lemme think......
A disclaimer: I'm an old fart who's been working with computers since the
stone age (1967).  Some things change - some do not, regardless of the
technology.  And my experience with ADE and ebook readers is limited to what
I've been doing since the beginning of this year.  So, what I can tell you
is more theoretical than experience....  With that in mind:
Ebooks may simulate real books, but that doesn't mean you can do the same
things with them.  Once you download a book to a particular device (PC, MAC
or ereader), the computer and the software register it according to the
'tags' created by the publisher.  You can see those tags if you click on the
very tiny drop-down box in the upper left corner of the book's cover in
Library view.  Click on 'Item Info'.  You'll see the permissions the
publisher has set up, such as reading on devices, copying and printing.  If
you can copy the book, then you could use PC or MAC tools to copy it to a
thumb drive, then take it to the other computer and download it into their
ADE library, making sure it goes in the same folder name on the other
computer.  If the publisher doesn't allow copying, there are electronic
'tags' built into the file on your computer that will not let the book be
opened on any other computer.  And that sounds like what's happening to
    you.
Short of buying their own copy, the only solution I can think of is sharing
    the computer....  Sorry!

  • Windows 8.1 ICS with file sharing between computers

Can someone help me get ICS working with file sharing between two computers (directly connected), without enabling file sharing on the internet network (on a public untrusted network)?  Is this possible?  I have set up ICS between two Windows 8.1
machines, but i can only get file sharing to work in one direction (from machine B to machine A)... UNLESS I turn on file sharing/discovery with the entire network from machine A (which i do not want to do).  I am not sure this exact question has been
asked, so my apologies if it has.
    Here is my configuration.
Machine A: win 8.1 (up to date), two NICs:  a wireless card (connected to internet) and a gigabit NIC (connected to machine B)
Machine B: win 8.1 (up to date), one NIC, a gigabit card connected to machine A
    What i did:
On Machine A:  I enabled ICS on machine A's wireless card, which automatically assigned the IP address 192.168.137.1 to the second NIC
On Machine B:DHCP was enabled so it automatically got an ip address (192.168.137.62), internet sharing works fine (i can open a browser, get email, etc.)
On Machine B: I enabled "Find devices and content" on the network device
On Machine A: Going into "view network settings" it lists my wireless network and the gigabit NIC.  The wireless under 'Wi-Fi' says 'Connected', and i can click on this and I have the option to turn on "Find devices and content".
On the wifi connection, i leave 'Find devices and content' turned OFF (so i don't discover computers on the wireless network, which is a public network).  My gigabit NIC shows up as "unidentified network"/"Limited".
When i click on the gigabit NIC, it does NOT give me an option to turn on "Find devices and content", it just shows some properties of the NIC (manufacturer, description, driver, mac address) and button that says "Copy".  On
the gigabit connection's properties (which is listed as "unidentified network/limited"), the option for 'Find devices and content' is missing.
On Machine A: I open a file browser and type '\\192.168.137.62' and it works correctly, i can see the computer and move files around.
On Machine B: It doesn't work.  I open a file browser and type in "\\192.168.137.1", and nothing happens.
If i enable 'Find devices and content' on machine A's wifi connection, everything works, but now everyone on the public network can see my computer.
Question:  How can i enable file sharing between machine A and machine B ONLY?
Thanks for any help you can provide.

The whole point of public networks is that they are unsafe, so file sharing is not permitted for your protection.
If you have a network which you know is safe, the way to get file sharing working is to change your security policy so that it is set to private, not public. You do this from the local security policy (on the ICS computer).

  • "USB device not recognized." "The connection between your device and the desktop could not be established. Please check your setup and try again." Tungsten E2, Outlook 2007

    Hi,
I am running XP SP 2, on a Dell Vostro 1000, Palm OS Garnet v5.4.7 on a Tungsten E2. I have worked though issues relating to synchronization, Outlook 2007, Docs to Go, etc., in the past.  Thank you board members!
Once I worked thru all the initial problems, my Tungsten E2 was sync' ing beautifully to my laptop until a few days ago.  There have been no changes (I know of) to the configuration, but now I receive  "The connection between your device and the desktop could not be established.  Please check your setup and try again."  On the laptop I sometimes get  "USB device not recognized."  I am unclear why I get the PC message sometimes and not others.
I have tried the following: (not necc exactly in this order)
Double checked Hot Sync Mgr settings: Local USB (ver. 6.0.1)
    Reset the Palm (multiple times)
Rebooted the laptop  (multiple times before and after the Palm resets)
Went to Support Libraries including http://kb.palm.com/SRVS/CGI-BIN/WEBCGI.EXE/,/?St=57,E=0000000001060189973,K=9550,Sxi=3,Case=Obj(3695...)
    and http://kb.palm.com/SRVS/CGI-BIN/WEBCGI.EXE?New,Kb=PalmSupportKB,ts=Palm_External2001,Case=obj(1409)
Followed the steps in "Start Here" found at  http://forums.palm.com/palm/board/message?board.id=windows_hotsync&thread.id=26057
Moved Backup directory as per a post on this forum
Looked for a deleted a file called "Graffiti_ShortCuts_____________" per a post on this forum
Followed the steps in HotSync troubleshooter guide you can run through located on
    http://kb.palm.com
Went into Device Manager - found it shows no yellow ! 's
Followed Device Mgr Troubleshooter - went all the way thru with no solution
Tried all four USB ports - the PC's bell-like tone does not sound when I disconnect or reconnect the Plam's cradle like it does when I conn/disconnect other USB devices -I think that is a clue.    ...?
Cleaned the Palm's contacts (and cradle's contacts with a old, dry toothbrush)
Read all the posts under "USB device not recognized."
OK, I'm at a loss, can anyone help me?  Many thanks in advance!

    Hello!
Using a cradle with the Tungsten E2?  Tried bypassing the cradle and just use the hotsync cable?  Tried a different computer yet?  Somehow, the PC is having problems getting a signal from the device.  I assume you have the laptop charger plugged into the laptop during this?  Not going through a docking station or port-replicator.
One crazy thing you can try is unplug the charger from your laptop, remove the battery from the laptop and leave it out for like 10mins and put it back in and reboot the laptop.  This should not cause side effects but still contact your OEM to make sure that nothing else is needed after leaving the battery out for extended period of time.  Keep me posted.

  • Can I share ring tones or alert tones purchased from iTunes between mobile devices?

Does anyone know if there is a way to share ring tones or alert tones purchased from iTunes between mobile devices?  I purchased them on my iPhone and they come up on my computer but I cannot transfer them to my iPad.  Is it possible to share them between mobile devices like any other song?

If you just want to select the whole song as your ringtone (without cutting out the best part) go to your computer and check were the file is saved. When found create a copy of it and rename its extension from m4a to m4r. Now drag&drop that file into itunes and there is your ringtone

  • Attach file not showing shared devices

When using Mac Mail however, the attach button (paperclip icon) does not display "Shared" in the left sidebar menu.  Please advise how I may attach a file from a Shared device (a PC on the network) to my Mac Mail.
A little background: We have a small personal network with only Mac and PC computers both accessible to one another thru a common WiFi and set permissions between the computers.  With Finder I can use Ctrl-K to add any PC on our network and open and drill down to look at the user's files, desktops, documents, etc.  Thanks to permissions granted on the PC, I can also edit, delete or modify the PC's files as well. Now when I open Finder, the connection to the PC ("hnk2011") remains available under "Shared" header along with a few network printers (screenshot attached).
When drafting an email however, these "Shared" header is not visible in the Attach file menu and is also not listed under the "Devices" header (screenshot attached).  Where did "hnk2011" disappear to?  How do I find it?

Ooops.  Now I know what you're referring to.  The only shared device I've got access to is a flash drive connected to our Airport Express and I'm able to access it OK.  Can't help you with PCs connected.  You may have to get the attachment via the Finder and ad it that way to the email.

  • Problem: Hotsync error message "The connection between your device and the desktop could not be establisthed."

When I Hotsync Bluetooth connection is successful, then in step 2, "Connecting with the desktop" Hotsync errors out with message "The connection between your device and the desktop could not be establisthed.  Please check your setup and try again."
Bluetooth configuration inticates Bluetooth serial port COM Port is set to COM3
Hotsync setup: when I click "Local" tab I get error message "The selected port, COM5, is not available at this time.  HotSync Manager will open the port when it becomes available."
Hotsync setup > "Local" tab > Serial Port dropdown shows only COM4.  I cannot change it to anything else.
Note: I can send files to PC using Bluetooth just fine; error only occurs when I Hotsync using Bluetooth connection.
Tried rebooting both laptop and Palm TX.  Still can't Hotsync.
    Operating system: Windows XP Pro
    Post relates to: Palm TX

You are not the only one having this problem. I have REPEATEDLY tried to bluetooth sync with my new toshiba windows 7
Palm 6.2.2 to no avail. I have tried every bluetooth device they suggest and every "fix" or "solution" that has been offered here and in on line chat with a Palm tech. No dice! I even took my computer and all components to a tech. He worked on it for 5 hours. Every once in a while for no apparent reason it will magically sync, but never consistently. Using 32bit on my husband's computer with Vista, and the docking cradle still works so I have my data. A few others have apparently had success with this problem but I think it is an accident that it works for them when it does. Otherwise it would work for everyone. We have read everything we can find and spent literally hours and hours and hours.
I am now in the process of trying to import/export to Outlook and plan to upgrade to another device like iPhone or blackberry that will sync data with Outlook. My Palm TX also has not been able to successfully sync with that although, as I said earlier, it syncs with Palm Desktop. Good luck with your's.
