File System Layout

Hi
can anybody tell me is there any transaction code or table corresponding to file system layout .For example it should contain details like file system(path) size and mount.
thanks in advance

HI Jasmine
For application server files, please check if transaction AL11 can help you.

• Target file system layout in homogeneous DB copy

Gurus:
We have a target system whose file system layout is totally different from the source system in that:
1) the number of the file system is less than that in the source;
2) the size of each targte file system is also different from the source system.
BTW way the target has a DB running.
Can we go ahead to do the import without doing anything on above differences? i.e just go ahead to overwrite the target
DB?
Oracle on Unix.
Thanks a lot!

Hi,
its better and recommemded by SAP if you have the same DB instance SID and SAPSID.
If the target system has different SID than the source that will be more work to do for you. its makes things easyer if you have the same name as the source system.
You have two different file system and different SID. So its better to minimize those things if you can.
I think in this step where you are, I would prefer to deinstall oracle on the target system and install it again with the SAP recommendations for SAP Software which you will find on the installation guide. Because you wrote that oracle is already installed on the target system but without SAP. This means the installation was not for SAP and its different to SAP recommended..
Chooce also Oracle DB instance name and SAPSID the same name.
Good luck

• File system layout & cylinders

I just did a fresh install of Solaris 9 8/03 on an Ultra Enterprise 450. When it came time to partition the disk, I chose the custom option. I then input the size of each file system for the the correct FS. Now when I look at the disk using the format command, it shows that the swap FS starts at cylinder 0 and root starts at 2026. I always thought that root should start at cylinder 0. I was never prompted for starting cylinders when partitioning the disk.
Here is the output from the format command:
Volume name = < >
ascii name = <SEAGATE-ST318404LC-0002 cyl 14187 alt 2 hd 6 sec 421>
pcyl = 14189
ncyl = 14187
acyl = 2
nhead = 6
nsect = 421
Part Tag Flag Cylinders Size Blocks
0 root wm 2026 - 4457 2.93GB (2432/0/0) 6143232
1 swap wu 0 - 415 513.09MB (416/0/0) 1050816
2 backup wm 0 - 14186 17.09GB (14187/0/0) 35836362
3 unassigned wm 810 - 2025 1.46GB (1216/0/0) 3071616
4 var wm 4458 - 7700 3.91GB (3243/0/0) 8191818
5 usr wm 7701 - 14186 7.81GB (6486/0/0) 16383636
6 unassigned wm 0 0 (0/0/0) 0
7 unassigned wm 0 0 (0/0/0) 0
Does this look OK or should I reformat/restart the installation?
Thanks

when I look at the disk using the format command, it
shows that the swap FS starts at cylinder 0 and root
starts at 2026. I always thought that root should
start at cylinder 0. I was never prompted for
starting cylinders when partitioning the disk.Swap should start at the beginning of disk - right after the volume label (designating this is Solaris) -- this allows for future upgrades of the OpSys. Having swap at the start is generally faster on Solaris. IIRC LiveUpgrade designates that swap must be at the beginning to help with upgrades of the OpSys during a live system operation.
Other filesystems and operating environments - AIX for example - allows you to select Inner/Outer slices and allows more fine tuning for performance; near as i can tell that is not an option when building SUN Solaris systems.

• Solaris 10 - File System Size / Layout

Hello, Im very new to Solaris OS UNIX world and have a question around the file system.
I have SUN System with a single 36GB of Hard Disk, and eventually I want to install Oracle 10g on it as a development server for myself.
My question is around the file system size and layout
I have installed Solaris 10 and accepted the default file system, which is as below:
Filesystem size used avail capacity Mounted on
/dev/dsk/c1t1d0s0 5.0G 3.4G 1.6G 69% /
/devices 0K 0K 0K 0% /devices
ctfs 0K 0K 0K 0% /system/contract
proc 0K 0K 0K 0% /proc
mnttab 0K 0K 0K 0% /etc/mnttab
swap 1.5G 1.1M 1.5G 1% /etc/svc/volatile
objfs 0K 0K 0K 0% /system/object
/platform/sun4u-us3/lib/libc_psr/libc_psr_hwcap1.so.1 5.0G 3.4G 1.6G 69% /platform/sun4u-us3/lib/libc_psr.so.1
/platform/sun4u-us3/lib/sparcv9/libc_psr/libc_psr_hwcap1.so.1 5.0G 3.4G 1.6G 69% /platform/sun4u-us3/lib/sparcv9/libc_psr.so.1
fd 0K 0K 0K 0% /dev/fd
swap 1.5G 136K 1.5G 1% /tmp
swap 1.5G 88K 1.5G 1% /var/run
/dev/dsk/c1t1d0s7 28G 28M 28G 1% /export/home
What I dont understand is when I eventually install Oracle, where will the directory go for it?
The /home/export folder is aprrox: 28GB which is now taking up most of the space, and I understand that this is for users, therefore my question is:
1.Should I have allocated a more space to the root file system for oracle during the OS install?
2. If so what should I do? (its not a production system and I know it will have to go somewhere on the single drive, Im happy to rebuild as Im still learning the OS).
Any suggestions?
Rgds
D

Thanks, I do have this but needed info on the file system layout... but I have the info now...
If you select the auto file system layout on Solaris 10 then it gives the remaining space to the home/export . I have since re-installed, customised the file system layout and have space for the database.

• 1.1.4 and new file system

Does 1.1.4 have a new file system?
I upgraded to 1.1.4 using iTunes. Now I am unable to load any application packages that are normally displayed by the installer.
When I tried to view what is in the iphone I see that the file system layout is different - there is only root.
Did I upgrade wrongly? or did I do it on a wrong day .
THanks

Let me explain in case you didn't already know: the iPhone currently has two restrictions:
1. it can only be used with one carrier (e.g. AT&T in the US)
2. You cannot download any applications on to it.
Installer is a 3rd party app which allows you to download applications, but if you use it, you void your iPhone warranty.
In updating to 1.1.4, you have probably wiped installer of the iPhone, and are back to a standard iPhone (hopefully) - any 3rd party apps that were on the phone will have been wiped as well.
If you want more apps, the I would wait until late June, when version 2.0 will be released, which will allow you to download Apple-approved apps, without voiding your warranty.
Hope this helps.

• How to delete file systems from a Live Upgrade environment

How to delete non-critical file systems from a Live Upgrade boot environment?
Here is the situation.
I have a Sol 10 upd 3 machine with 3 disks which I intend to upgrade to Sol 10 upd 6.
Current layout
Disk 0: 16 GB:
/dev/dsk/c0t0d0s0 1.9G /
/dev/dsk/c0t0d0s1 692M /usr/openwin

/dev/dsk/c0t1d0s4 3.9G /data2
Disk 2: 33 GB:
/dev/dsk/c0t2d0s0 33G /data3
The data file systems are not in use right now, and I was thinking of
partitioning the data3 into 2 or 3 file systems and then creating
a new BE.
However, the system already has a BE (named s10) and that BE lists
all of the filesystems, incl the data ones.
# lufslist -n 's10'
boot environment name: s10
This boot environment is currently active.
This boot environment will be active on next system boot.

I browsed the Solaris 10 Installation Guide and the man pages
for the lu commands, but can not find how to remove the data
file systems from the BE.
How do I do a live upgrade on this system?
Thanks for your help.

Thanks for the tips.
I commented out the entries in /etc/vfstab, also had to remove the files /etc/lutab and /etc/lu/ICF.1
and then could create the Boot Environment from scratch.
I was also able to create another boot environment and copied into it,
but now I'm facing a different problem, error when trying to upgrade.
# lustatus
Boot Environment Is Active Active Can Copy

which shares out the directory. I mounted it on this machine,
did a lofiadm and mounted that at /cdrom.
# ls -CF /cdrom /cdrom/boot /cdrom/platform
/cdrom:

/cdrom/boot:
hsfs.bootblock sparc.miniroot
/cdrom/platform:
sun4u/ sun4us/ sun4v/Now I did luupgrade and I get this error:
# luupgrade -u -n s10u6 -s /cdrom
ERROR: The media miniroot archive does not exist </cdrom/boot/x86.miniroot>.
ERROR: Cannot unmount miniroot at </cdrom/Solaris_10/Tools/Boot>.I find it strange that this sparc machine is complaining about x86.miniroot.
BTW, the machine on which the DVD image is happens to be x86 running Sol 10.
I thought that wouldn't matter, as it is just NFS sharing a directory which has a DVD image.
What am I doing wrong?
Thanks.

• Deliver a report in XML format and save it to local file system on the server

We have OBIEE 10.1.3.4 on Redhat linux. We want to have generate a report in XML format and saved it to the server's file system. Did not realize this is s difficult task. Basically
1) How to create a XML report? It is not listed in the output items of a layout template.
2) How to deliver XML the report to local file system. Look into the Delivery section of Admin page. FTP should be the best choice, but does that means that one need to install and run ftp server on the BI server box?
Thanks

Hi,
Since I still have problems on this subject, I would like to share on how it progresses.
Currently I have a problem of timeout in step "Truncate XML Schema" with the URL that I mentioned above.
The exact error is the following : 7000 : null : com.sunopsis.sql.l: Oracle Data Integrator TimeOut : connection with URL [...]
The connection test is still OK.
I tried to increase the value in the user's pref but there's no change.

• Export data from SAP Document Management System to File System(FileStore)

Hi,
We need to extract/ export data (documents and metadata) from SAP Document Management System to windows File System (File Store), can anyone suggest us tool or methodology to do the same.
Thanks,
Nilesh

I'm also looking for a solution for this problem. We are capturing comments in BW-BPS layouts. They get stored in BW's document management system and we would like to export them out of the system for external reporting into an ACCESS database.

• Create a file system repository

Hi all,
when I create a file system repository in the following solution:
System Administration → System Configuration→Knowledge Management→Content Management→Repository Managers → File System Repository
There I input the name and the URL which is available on the server.
Then I go to Content Administration → KM Content to check the content of the repository I have created , I can find the folder in the first level directory, but why I can't find the text file I create under the second level .
such as: URL C:/kmtest
on the server C:/kmtest/1
C:/kmtest/1/1.text
(I can see the folder 1, but when I click this fodler on the portal , I can see nothing.)
When I use System Administration → Monitoring → Knowledge
Management → Component Monitor to check the status of the repository , I find it was not in green light .
Then what is the reason ? Thank you if you can help me !

Check permissions of that folder give full permissions.
Create a File System Repository
You map a network drive from the Portal server and create the file repository in the Portal.
Procedure
To map a network drive from the portal server
1. Log on to the Windows Server of the Portal.
2. From the Microsoft Windows Start menu, open Windows Explorer.
3. Choose Tools  Map Network Drive.
4. Specify the drive letter for the connection (say V :).

• Sun Cluster 3.0 Veritas Volume manager add a new file system

Hello people recently in need add a new file system to my Solaris cluster installation ( with oracle 8), but I have some dudes about the correct procedure for this.
I put the procedure:
Ok:
/etc/vx/bin/vxdisksetup -i c4t1d1
/usr/sbin/vxdg -g space-dg adddisk space07= c4t1d1s2
/etc/vx/bin/vxdisksetup -i c4t1d2
/usr/sbin/vxdg -g space-dg adddisk space08= c4t1d2s2
/usr/sbin/vxassist -g space-dg make vol3-space 70686720 layout=striped stripeunit=128 alloc="space07 space08"
mkfs -F vxfs /dev/vx/rdsk/space-dg/vol3-space
In this point I update my dginfo in the active node of my cluster
scconf -c -D name=space-dg,sync
Add in all node /etc/vfstab)
/dev/vx/dsk/space-dg/vol3-space /dev/vx/rdsk/space-dg/vol3-space /space_mount/vol3-space vxfs 2 no -
Made the mount point in all nodes:
mkfs /space_mount/vol3-space
mount the file system in active node.
mount /space_mount/vol3-space
use sccheck.
My dude is about is about Storage plus resource (space-grp:space-storageplus-res:FilesystemMountPoints) because this dont have the new mount poing, if I must put the new mount point in this property using: scrgadm because my cluster has HAStorage-plus.
What is the optimal form? If I must use scrgadm I can modify this property (FilesystemMountPoints) with
(scrgadm -x FilesystemMountPoints =value) ??
Or must recreate space-storageplus-res????
Thanks for you time and sorry for my English.

Thanks I made sucessuly.
The final procedure:
1 create the disks in vertias (not the volumen)
2 if you add new disk, recreate the did
scdidadm -L
scdidadm -r (must exec in all nodes)
scgdevs (in all nodes)
3 Disable the resouces using scswitch -n -j (the resouce)
in my case we disable all resouce but NOT the resouce group. (only exec in one node)
Make the new file system. :-D. makefs. (in one node)
4 make the new pount mount in all nodes.
5 insert the new line in vfstab (remenber the mount at boot to set to no)
scrgadm -pvv | grep "FilesystemMounPoints="
6 You must put the "FilesystemMounPoints=" in same orden in vfstab
I use the sunplex (more easy) ..
Renable to online your resources.
Test to switch over to another node.
The new filesystem may be automaticaly mounted.
Bye an thanks for the help

• Best practices for ZFS file systems when using live upgrade?

I would like feedback on how to layout the ZFS file system to deal with files that are constantly changing during the Live Upgrade process. For the rest of this post, lets assume I am building a very active FreeRadius server with log files that are constantly updating and must be preserved in any boot environment during the LU process.
Here is the ZFS layout I have come up with (swap, home, etc omitted):
NAME USED AVAIL REFER MOUNTPOINT
rpool 11.0G 52.0G 94K /rpool
rpool/ROOT 4.80G 52.0G 18K legacy
rpool/ROOT/boot1 4.80G 52.0G 4.28G /
rpool/ROOT/boot1/zones-root 534M 52.0G 20K /zones-root
rpool/ROOT/boot1/zones-root/zone1 534M 52.0G 534M /zones-root/zone1
rpool/zone-data 37K 52.0G 19K /zones-data
rpool/zone-data/zone1-runtime 18K 52.0G 18K /zones-data/zone1-runtimeThere are 2 key components here:
1) The ROOT file system - This stores the / file systems of the local and global zones.
2) The zone-data file system - This stores the data that will be changing within the local zones.
Here is the configuration for the zone itself:
<zone name="zone1" zonepath="/zones-root/zone1" autoboot="true" bootargs="-m verbose">
<inherited-pkg-dir directory="/lib"/>
<inherited-pkg-dir directory="/platform"/>
<inherited-pkg-dir directory="/sbin"/>
<inherited-pkg-dir directory="/usr"/>
<filesystem special="/zones-data/zone1-runtime" directory="/runtime" type="lofs"/>
<network address="192.168.0.1" physical="e1000g0"/>
</zone>The key components here are:
1) The local zone / is shared in the same file system as global zone /
2) The /runtime file system in the local zone is stored outside of the global rpool/ROOT file system in order to maintain data that changes across the live upgrade boot environments.
The system (local and global zone) will operate like this:
The global zone is used to manage zones only.
Application software that has constantly changing data will be installed in the /runtime directory within the local zone. For example, FreeRadius will be installed in: /runtime/freeradius
During a live upgrade the / file system in both the local and global zones will get updated, while /runtime is mounted untouched in whatever boot environment that is loaded.
Does this make sense? Is there a better way to accomplish what I am looking for? This this setup going to cause any problems?
What I would really like is to not have to worry about any of this and just install the application software where ever the software supplier sets it defaults to. It would be great if this system somehow magically knows to leave my changing data alone across boot environments.

Hello "jemurray".
Have you read this document? (page 198)
http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/820-7013?l=en
Then the solution is:
01.- Create an alternate boot enviroment
a.- In a new rpool
b.- In the same rpool
02.- Upgrade this new enviroment
03.- Then I've seen that you have the "radious-zone" in a sparse zone (it's that right??) so, when you update the alternate boot enviroment you will (at the same time) upgrading the "radious-zone".
This maybe sound easy but you should be carefull, please try this in a development enviroment
Good luck

• Images in the folders of an external file system KM

Hello,
We are facing a problem in our KM, the thing is We have created a external file system in our KM, it is green and almost everythings is working fine... In the CM repository we have assigned the "properties" as a repository services, but in the setting of our folders we can not see the tab of rendering within the properties.
This is our problem without this tab of rendering We can not assign a image for this folder .. And We need to assign imaged to the folders.
Does anyone know whether we need to add new repository sevices to our file system ? or it is impossible to assign an image to a folder in a external file system within the knowledge management.
Thanks in advance.
OLAF

We have found the reason why we did not have the rendering option for assign images to the folder in a external repository.
Our guess was good, We should have added a new "repository services" called "layout service".
Thanks for reading this.

• Gummiboot error : file system is not a fat efi system partition (ESP)

I am at the point the guide tells me to do some specific work because I got UEFI motherboard
I did a fat 32 partition (type ef00) of 1G , which is my sda3
I created a dir /mnt/boot
I mounted the sda3 there
I type pacman -S gummiboot
result is File system /boot is not a fat efi system parttition file system
error: command failed to execute correctly
I don't get what I did wrong or what I understood wrong in the wiki. My partition is fat32, I try to install the bootloader gummiboot there but I take that error msg even if it's indeed formated as fat32.
edit: i've run the pacstrap -i /mnt base , everything worked smoothly and fast.

Hopefully you also say this line:
gummiboot install wrote:Copied /usr/lib/gummiboot/gummibootx64.efi to /boot/EFI/Boot/BOOTX64.EFI.
The \EFI\boot\bootx64.efi spot on the ESP is special. It is the "default" spot, which was originally intended to ensure that a UEFI USB flash drive, or other external media, would be able to boot. So in those cases, there is obviously not going to be a firmware entry as there potentially are for internal devices. So with external media, it finds the first ESP it can and automatically boots whatever is placed in that position. After a while, this feature started to be implemented to the internal devices as well.
This of course has its benefits, but also downsides. It means that you can actually boot UEFI without making an efibootmgr entry at all. You can instead set the machine to boot from the device (as though you were booting with the old MBR system) and have things set to UEFI. It will then, like the external devices, find the first ESP and then boot the \EFI\boot\bootx64.efi, whatever that is. But this also has made it so that different installers will "compete" for that default spot. So although gummiboot copying itself to that spot is in my opinion, convenient, I believe the microsoft installer will also make an attempt to write over this as well. Hence, it is better (but not essential) to have a firmware entry.
As far as the efibootmgr mounting issue you had, it may be that the info is not in the beginners guide simply because of the recent changes to the efibootmgr binary. See this section of the UEFI wiki page to understand what happened. Baiscally there is a new system in the kernel for EFI variables, and we have now switched fully. But I also agree with jasonwryan here that it is also likely that there just simply has to be a balance between providing a nice up to date layout of the installation process in the beginners guide, while not totally regurgitating every single but of information from the rest of the wiki.

• Flash Player 9, Director MX, LocalConnection and the file system sandbox

I have a Director MX asset to which I have no source-code
access. Previously I could use LocalConnection in a Flash Player 8
projector to interact with the Director app, local to the
file-system. I seem unable to do the same thing with a Flash Player
9 projector. The director asset looks for and loads the relevant
Flash projector and unloads itself when it is no longer present,
and this functionality continues without a problem. However, when I
use the LocalConnection.send method, the Flash player does not
receive the expected responses.
I know that this is a rather general and abstract question:
put simply, does anyone know whether Flash Player 9 and Director MX
can't talk to each other using LocalConnection?
ps to pre-empt over-enthusiastic respondees, yes I am aware
of other technologies such as AIR, Zinc etc, and no they're not a
viable option for my particular project.

Hi,
the following sourcecode is compiled with Flexbuilder 2 and
runs in flashplayer 9.0.115 as expected.
How do you trigger the effect?
