File that ends in double extension fails to open e.g. '.xls.xlsx' produces errors.

When a user saves a file in Excel it will end up with a double extension. This is probably due to the user adding .xls on to the end thinking that excel will change the file type, however, it just saves as Accumulated Leave 2014.xls.xlsx .   This
then doesn't open at all. I should point out that the environment that this is happening in is:
Windows 8.1 Enterprise w/ Excel 2013
Remote File server running Server 2008  (R1 or 'classic')
The file's icon is made transparent and has a red X.
Is this a bug or something in excel?
Also why when you specify a new extension doesn't it change the save as type?
Appreciate any insights,
Thanks, Evan

Hi,
According to your description, I tested your issue in my environment (Windows 8.1 & Excel 2013). I could open the file like "test.xls.xlsx" with Excel 2013 correctly.
For you question>>why when you specify a new extension doesn't it change the save as type?<<
If we set "hide file extension" in Windows 8.1, when we add the .XLS in the end of the file name, we could not change the file type. We need to show "file extension" before modify the type.

Please Note: Since the web site is not hosted by Microsoft, the link may change without notice. Microsoft does not guarantee the accuracy of this information.
Then, we open the Excel file on an alternative system, and make sure the file is not corrupted.
If this issue still exists, please try the repair Office.
Hope it's helpful.

    You should be able to open the zipped file by double clicking on it.

    Howdy Hestersfree,
    This can be done through the App Store on the device that you'd like the app installed on.
    Apps on iOS
    Open the App Store on your device.
    Make sure you are signed in with the same Apple ID used for the original purchase.
    Tap Updates from the bottom navigation bar.
    Tap Purchased on the resulting screen.
    Locate the app in your Purchased tab.
    Tap the download button.
    The app will begin downloading and you'll be taken back to your home screen.

  • After Effects CS3 error: file not found -43 and TIFFIO failed to open the file

    Hello
    I am experiencing a problem with AE CS3.
    I have several TIFF sequences (with alphas) that are giving me a headache. When I import them into AE, I get an "AEGP Plugin TIFFIO: Failed to open the file" error.
    I researched the forums and found that this could be related to odd formatting of the source media (my TIFF sequence). I created these TIFFs in Maya 2008 and I have imported other sequences made with Maya into AE with no issues.
    Just to be sure, I created a Photoshop droplet that re-saved my TIFFs as Photoshop TIFFs with the same names.
    I re-imported the new Photoshop TIFF sequences (still with alphas) into AE CS3, and I get the same error.
    Any ideas? I don't know what to do next.
    Thanks,
    -------------S

    Your USB drive may have had a weird character in it's name.
    AE can't read CMYK images, that is usually the problem.
    Imported images do not have to conform to any specific sizes (unless you want to go over 30,000 x 30,000 pixels.)

  • Photomatix is producing a file that is unsupported, does anyone else has this problem?, Photomatix is producing a file that is unsupported, does anyone else has this problem?

    Photomatix is now producing a file that is unsupported, is anyone else having this problem?

    Hi,
    Just blank with a triangle and the error message "unsupported file".  It seems fairly recent.  I don't use it daily but I just did some photography using several exposure for this software.  I contacted Photomatix first and here is their reply:
    "We have received quite a few reports now about this error message and have found that the problem is due to a bug in Aperture and not with our Plugin itself.  With a Google search for 'Aperture Unsupported image format,' one can find many people having this error using Aperture -- in many cases without using any Plugins at all.
    In our investigating of this so far, it appears that this error message is a kind of 'generic' error returned by Aperture.  In other words, this error message is returned when something unexpected happens in Aperture.
    Since we don't have access to the Aperture code, we cannot properly fix the bug of course.  In fact, we haven't even been able to reproduce the problem here which would at least give our engineers a chance to test some possible workarounds.
    We did receive a few reports from users who have helped out by reporting their workarounds.  The best one so far, provided that it works, is to hold the command+option keys while opening Aperture, and choose to rebuild the database.
    Others have solved this by creating a new Aperture library and still others apparently have deleted the images and then reimported the originals from backup.
    One person replied with the following which seems to be a good workaround:
    "I have discovered that things work as expected when launching the plugin from Aperture's "Viewer" view, and that I get failures when launching the plug-in from Aperture's "Browser" view.""

  • How do I setup in wls 6.1 a jsp file that has a different extension (not *.jsp)

    I have a jsp file with extension *.abc. The browser is showing the files as text instead of sending it to be processed as a jsp file.
              I have the following settings in the web.xml but it is not picking it up.
              <servlet-mapping>
              <servlet-name>
              jsp
              </servlet-name>
              <url-pattern>
              *.abc
              </url-pattern>
              </servlet-mapping>

    This is kind of a hack and not officially supported, but you might try...
              <servlet>
              <servlet-name>ABC</servlet-name>
              <servlet-class>weblogic.servlet.JSPServlet</servlet-class>
              <init-param>
              <param-name>compileCommand</param-name>
              <param-value>javac</param-value>
              </init-param>
              <init-param>
              <param-name>workingDir</param-name>
              <param-value>WEB-INF/classes</param-value>
              </init-param>
              </servlet>
              Since this isn't the default JSPServlet registration, it doesn't pick up the
              default JSPServlet init arguments, so after some experimentation I figured
              out that you have to at least define these two. Others that you may want to
              configure are...
              defaultFileName
              compileCommand
              compilerClass
              compileFlags
              workingDir
              verbose
              keepgenerated
              precompileContinue
              pageCheckSeconds
              encoding
              packagePrefix
              superclass
              noTryBlocks
              compilerSupportsEncoding
              These are all defined as jsp-descriptor args in the weblogic.xml file, but
              you can equally use them as servlet-args for your custom JSP registration
              Good luck,
              Alex
              P.S.
              Why don't you want to use jsp files anyway?

    Hi hklbj23,
    I'd like to know the version of TFS you're using. For your situation, you can delete the users in the group and then readd them to the group. After that, you can check if the users have access to the team project.
    To make sure the permission of your credential, we can run tfssecurity command in VS command line to have a check. Please execute
    tfssecurity /imx “domain\username” /collection:url, for more information about tfssecurity /imx, please refer to:
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms400806.aspx
    If you're using TFS 2012 Update2, then you can install the latest Update(4) to fix the issue. See the links below for more information about the similar problem:

    I did - but the link provided to download the files is no longer available. I tried to search for the files on internet but no luck. Do you have another location I can download them from?
    Also the same version is working fine on another computer.
    Thank you!

  • Is it possible to only view files that could be opened by a program?

    Hello all, this is my first mac and for the most part I find it as good or better than windows in almost everyway. One feature that I guess I took for granted in windows was that it only displayed files that could be opened by a program in that program. For instance when I am in powerpoint and I want to open another powerpoint file, I would hit open and it would only display powerpoint files. I have noticed in OS X if you go to open, then enable all powerpoint files all it does is grey out everything but the powerpoint files. Is there anyway instead of graying them out, it just doesn't display them like what happens in windows? Thanks for your help, Scott

    This has nothing to do with the OS. It's controlled by the individual program. The programmer has to write the specific code for what will or will not be displayed in a file dialog. If the programmer uses the code primitives "normally" then unmatching files are grayed out. This way you can still see files in the directory in case you want to open a file that has the wrong extension. Usually the application provides a drop down menu where you can select options such as display all files, only matching files, etc. However, the programmer has to implement these features.
    One thing that will help you a great deal is to stop looking for OS X to be like Windows. Although there are many elements that are similar there are many more that are not. If you haven't read this yet, you may find it helpful: Switch 101.

  • Lbplugin not passing pages that end in .html through

    Hi,
    We are running SunOne 7.0 U2 webserver with the installed lbplugin for SUN Appserver (Glassfish). I've set up the loadbalancer.xml to pass the context root through to the appserver cluster, but any page in the war file that ends in .html is not passing through, but throwing a 404 error. It looks like the web server is looking locally for the files. I've tried everything I can think of to force it, but not sure what else to do. All images, etc. come through fine - just files ending in .html don't.
    I've made sure the plugin is at the top of the magnus.conf, the NameTrans directive is the first one in the server-obj.conf file, etc.
    Thanks!

    Thanks, tried that, but the same behavior persists. The log shows that the /ac2 path (weblogic) gave a 404 not found because it was handled by the JSP engine. Local JSPs work (this is with the ntrans-j2ee still in the default block).

    bash-3.00# pwd
    /ac2/wp-dyn/jsp/enc/html
    bash-3.00# ls -al
    total 6
    drwxr-xr-x   2 root     root         512 Aug 15 15:36 .

    -rw-r--r--   1 root     root           5 Aug 15 15:36 perlBody.jsp
    bash-3.00# cat perlBody.jsp
    test and hit the URL again and what should appear in my browser? Not a "not found", but "test". So this definitely looks like a bug in both the SHTML processing and proxy plugin processing.

  • Why does the site manager create c:\ folders for files that don't belong to the site via FTP?

    Hello everyone,
    now I've been using Dreamweaver since Ultradev 1.0 and I have just recently upgraded to CS 5.5 Web Edition. Before that I used CS3. I've allways been very satisfied with Macromedia and Adobe products until now
    Now I don't know whats happened in the last few years but I am getting the impression that the quality of Dreamweaver used to be alot more stable.
    Developing for more than half my life I understand that bugs are usual and that not everything can be cared for, but to be quite honest I also know that there are bugs that just should not happen when you ship a product.
    On the other hand I do love some of the enhancements that have come with 5.5, for example the Javascript Framework integration and jQuery code hinting features but what I really cannot understand is why the heck is Dreamweaver automatically uploading files that do not belong to the currently open site to the ftp server? I cannot think of any scenario in which this would be appropriate behaviour. I'd understand it if the files somehow contained links (CSS, JS, PHP, etc.) to the currently open site, but they don't! Dreamweaver simply sets out, every now and again, to creating a totally "dumb" folder structure on my ftp servers when I open a file from outside of the site - which I do very often to copy code I used in other projects.
    It's just frustrating having to cleanup the ftp servers because Dreamweaver created folders like this "c:\localhost_root_folder\client_folder\client_project_folder\www\.... and so on", and saves a file in there that has nothing to do with the currently open site.
    Now I've looked for settings that would supress this behaviour but I could'nt find any.
    Also, I really don't want to stop using the automatic upload function because it speeds up development time significantly.
    Does anyone know how to work around this issue, or even better, does anyone know why this behaviour is happening and what it's purpose is?
    Thanks in advance.
    David

    ... what I really cannot understand is why the heck is Dreamweaver automatically uploading files that do not belong to the currently open site to the ftp server? I cannot think of any scenario in which this would be appropriate behaviour. I'd understand it if the files somehow contained links (CSS, JS, PHP, etc.) to the currently open site, but they don't! Dreamweaver doesn't "automatically upload" anything unless you have it set to on save. This is a bad practice if you aren't 100% sure of what you're doing. You may see it as a time saver, but if you have to go back two or three times and clean everything up, it isn't. Additionally, you select what is uploaded or not uploaded. If you choose to upload the entire root folder every time, then Dreamweaver will upload everything inside it... not automatically, but because you chose it.
    As to the "dumb folder structure", when you define a site, YOU and YOU ALONE define the folder structure. If you are working in multiple sites at once (bad practice unless your are extremely meticulous about details) odds are you will sooner or later save a file from one site, with another site open in the Files Panel and Dreamweaver will save the file to the open site, not the one you opened it from (see why it's a bad practice to do this?).
    It's just frustrating having to cleanup the ftp servers because
    Dreamweaver created folders like this
    "c:\localhost_root_folder\client_folder\client_project_folder\www\... .
    and so on", and saves a file in there that has nothing to do with the
    currently open site.
    It reads like you have defined a testing server and are using it when  you put files. C:\localhost is a testing server protocol. If you are  testing files and then attempt to put files from the testing server  instead of the root folder, they will have the filepath from the testing  server and not from the root folder file structure. Again a bad  practice unless you are meticulous about details and remember to switch  back to the root folder from the testing server panel BEFORE you put  files.

  • Illustrator CS4 - frequently generates corrupt EPS files that will not parse

    I have used many versions of Illustrator prior to and including the CS lines.  I am currently running CS4 and this is the first time I have experienced this issue.  Approximately half of my EPS formatted illustrator files will not parse.  I use Quark Xpress 7 for my layout (never liked any of the Indesign programs).  If I try to generate a PDF with my CS4 generated EPS files placed at least 60% of the time the placed file will corrupt the PDF export resulting in no PDF being generated.
    Further to this PDF export issue, if I attempt to parse the same EPS file into Photoshop, Photoshop will give me the error message "Could not complete your request because Photoshop was unable to parse the PostScript" and it will abort the attempt to open the file.
    Anyone else having Illustrator EPS file issues?
    Background info (if needed) Dual 2.0 Ghz, PowerMac G5, 8 gb RAM, running Tiger 10.4.11
    I have attached a sample Illustrator file that will not Parse.  It will open in Illustrator but not parse into Photoshop or if placed in Quark will not parse and allow for a PDF to be exported.

    Thanks for taking the time to write Steve.
    I understand that I can drag and drop between programs.  Ultimately, when attempting to parse an EPS in photoshop I am merely doing it to confirm that the EPS is indeed corrupt.
    As mentioned previously, I predominately use Quark Xpress for my page layout program and until I installed CS4 I have had zero complications with using EPS files.  Now I quite commonly can not export PDFs due to corrupt EPS files.
    My question to the public is I am alone in this glitch or do others experience the same issue.  My first thoughts are that CS4 has a glitch and I should be expecting an update in the near future.  But, if I am the only person suffering from this issue than maybe I should be looking at my own software.
