File too big or too complicated

I cannot convert the file I need. It says it is either too big or too complicated. What else can I do?

Try disabling the 'Recognize text' function and then convert the document again.
Let us know how it goes!

  • Is an 8.7GB file too big to import into iMovie 9?

Is an 8.7GB file too big to import into iMovie 9?  I am using iMovie 8.0.6 on a Macbook Pro running OS 10.6.8 on 2.26 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 2 GB Memory.  I can't get my movie file to import into iMovie...any advice would be much appreciated!

When you import into iMovie, your video is converted into DV format. This uses 13 GB per hour of video. So the first thing you have to do is make sure you have 26 GB free on your hard drive, plus another 10GB free for OSX to perform, plus 10GB free if you plan on burning a DVD.
iMovie has non-destructive editing. If you have used any part of a clip and discard the rest, that entire clip is still saved in your project - unused but eating up disc space. If you use no part of a clip and discard the clip, then the clip can go in the trash and you get back disc space. So...
If you import 2 hours of video (26GB) as one clip, and only use 2 minutes, your 2-minute segment retains its 2-hr source in memory. 2 min = 26 GB.
One thing you can do is set the iMovie preferences to automatically create new clips every 3 minutes. (2 hours of 3-min clips = 40 clips.) This allows you to find the 2-minute segment you want and delete all of the unused clips. Say your 2-minute segment comes from 2 of these 3-min clips, so you keep 6 minutes of source footage and delete the rest. Clips that are entirely unused will be completely deleted and give you back disc space. At .65 GB per clip, your 6-minute project is now only 1.3 GB, and you've just regained 24.7 GB of disc space.

I'm a video editor and have published a site through iWeb. I have about 8 movie files on the site. The site never fully loads. Are my video files too big? If so, what would you recommend the average MB's should be?

You need to use a movie player that doesn't require the files to load with the webpage...

  • Backup file too big using Disk Utility

I need to back up my 160GB Mackintosh HD on my imac OSX 10.6.3 (Snow Leopard) using disk utility. After a short period of the imaging process I get a message saying 'file too big'. What can I do to resolve the problem? My external drive is 1TB with 500GB available.
I've tried using Time Machine but this seems to want to wipe my external disk.

You may or may not be able to use the Disk Utility in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder to shrink the single partition and create a new one in the free space.

  • Exporting a sequence and getting an Error file too big message

I have tried to export a sequence using Quicktime conversion. It is a two minute clip and I keep getting an "Error, File too big" message. Does anyone know what can be happening?

What exactly are you exporting to? Settings, codec, data rate? What drive are you exporting to? How is it formatted?

  • Compressor presets making m2v file too big

I am on fresh install of tiger fcp suite, all up to date. I use DVD best quality 120 min preset and it spits out a 5 gig m2v. I try to set my own custom setting with exact bitrate to maximize quality and use up disc space, never exceeding safe levels. and it creates file smuch bigger than compressor 1.2.1 did with same settings.

I've just completed my third attempt to encode a 1h57min video using the following settings, based on the DVD Best Quality 4:3 factory presets.
    - Avg Bit Rate: 4.6 | Max Bitrate 7.5
    Result: M2V file too large (> 5gb!)
    - Avg Bit Rate 4.6 | Max Bitrate 7.0
Result: M2V slightly smaller, but still too large (> 4.8gb!)
    - Avg Bit Rate 4.0 | Max Bitrate 7.0
Result: M2V file still too large, at 4.72gb!
*Again, these file sizes are the M2V files BY THEMSELVES!*
BTW, I used a trusted bitrate calculator to get the 4.6 avg bitrate reading for a 120min video. I've also used that bitrate without issue in Compressor 1.
The source is an 8-bit Uncompressed video timeline from FCP 5.0.2. There are no cuts in the timeline, as it was digitized directly from the source and placed on the timeline to be encoded with chapter markers in place. The only image transformation within Compressor set to occur is the cropping of the bottom 2 video fields to comform the 486 lines to 480.
This has wasted THREE days of my time. And in all cases, the estimated file sizes reported by Compressor 2 has been grossly inaccurate.
How am I supposed to work around this without churning out video that looks like utter crud???
I've already had to drop my Avg and Max Bitrates from 5.0mbps to 4.0mpbs, even though Apple's preset for 120 minutes Best Quality lists 5.0mpbs with a max bitrate 7.5mbps. If the Apple presets aren't even working at this, clearly there is something wrong here.

  • Files too big

I've been trying to render a 1 hour presentation in .avi best quality. It chug's on it for an hour and half way through says the files to big. Am I to settle for a lower quality or is their a limiter I can raise somewhere?
Also what are the best setting for export to iDVD from FCE4. would you notice much difference in using the medium AVI, should I be re rendering it to some form of .mov or mp4
I'm using SD RAW DV AVI footage catured as DV AVI file from Pinacle that connected to mixer. It recieving from 2 Canon XL2's and a Canon GL2

I was using mp4 but it was taking 4 hours just to render and get to the point I could edit. avi in its highest quality is direct miniDV. its simply what the capture PC is spitting out. and was trying not to change that formate, but I'll try having it render out a .mov and see what happens, it just really time consuming. hopefully after 3-4 more runs through this process hopefully I'll have a work flow down. it my first mac so I have quite a learning curve

    Hello All!
I'm trying to create a 10GB non-encrypted, non-compressed RW blank image via the disk utility. The DU runs for a few minutes then barfs out "file too large" error. I have over 30GB free on my HDD. I tried with a smaller size of 6GB to no avail. Also tried unsuccessfully to create from a file (about 4 GB). My ultimate goal is to create a case-insensitive image to run an extremely important program needed for high priority work productivity (i.e. WoW). Thanks in advance for any advice! • Backup file too small?

I did a complete new backup onto a 1Tb TC I had previously used for backup (but deleted the old bakcup file). I have 214 GB on my HD, and TM said it was backing up about 214 GB, but it stopped at about 175 GB and said it was done! No further incremental backups add much of anything. I can't identify any particularly large folders or files that it missed, but I can't compare everything. a 35 GB difference is pretty big. Any thoughts about whether I should worry that the HD is not completely backed up, or how to remedy this?
I did have previous problems with a "read only" TC, and then "backup file too large..." (the latter which I solved by trashing the TM .plist preferences file right before I did this big backup.)
    Macolyte

Olaf is right it must be compressed backup:
To check if the backup file is compressed or not
    RESTORE HEADERONLY FROM DISK = 'Path to backup file';
Looks for column labelled "Compressed". 1 = compressed, 0 = not compressed.
If you are skeptical about backup file you can verfiy whether a SQL database backup can be read and restored:
RESTORE VERIFYONLY FROM DISK = 'Path to backup file'
If the backup is valid, the SQL Server Database Engine returns:
The backup set on file 1 is valid

The error appears to be stating the physical file is too big to be deployed
I'm running the managed servers with a heap size of 3GB and the managed server is running with 2GB - I know these are large but they where being used for debugging
I can't find any documentation on the file size too large error, or how to resolve it
DeploymentService:290065 says to look in the log (details are above) and DeploymentService:290066 says the error will be explained in it's description, which it is, "file size too big", it doesn't say where to see/set the max file size, there is plenty of disk space so I can only assume it's setting for the deployment service that needs to be increase, but I cannot find info on this.

I don't think this would help, but would using the nostage option for deployment change this behaviour.
I don't think it would as this is for disk based problems rather than transfer size issues.

  • File too large error unpacking War during app deploy - RHEL &WLS 10.3.5

I'm stumped and I'm hoping someone can help out here. Does anyone have any insights into the cause of my problem below, or tips on how to diagnose the cause?
    scenario
We ran into an open files limit issue on our RH Linux servers, and had the SA boost the our open files limit fro 1024 to 3096. This seems to have solved the open files limit issue, once we restarted the node managers and the managed servers (our WLS startup script sets the soft limit to the hard limit).
But now we've got a new issue, right after this change. The admin server is now no longer able to deploy and war/ear, as when I click on "Activate" after the install I get
Message icon - Error An error occurred during activation of changes, please see the log for details.
Message icon - Error Failed to load webapp: 'TemplateManagerAdmin-1.0-SNAPSHOT.war'
Message icon - Error File too large
on the console, and see the stack trace below in the Admin server log (nothing in the managed server logs) - indicating it's getting the error in exploding the war.
I've tried both default deployment mode, and the mode "will make the deployment available in the following location" where the war is manually copied to the same location on each box, available to each server - all with the same result. I've also tried restarting the admin server, but no luck.
The files are not overly large (<=34 MByte) and we had no trouble with them before today. I'm able to log in as the WebLogic user and copye files, etc. with no problem.
There is no disk space issue - plenty of space left on all of our filesystems. There is, as far as I can tell, no OS or user file size limit issue:

In the end, the problem was not in the Admin server where the log entry is, but in one of the managed servers where there was no such log entry.
Somehow, and we have no idea how, the NodeManager process had the soft limit for max file size set to 2k blocks. Thus, the managed server inherited that. We restarted the Node Manager, then the managed server, and the problem went away.
The diagnostic that turned the trick:
    cat /proc/<pid>/limits
for the managed server showed the bad limit setting, then diagnosis proceeded from there. The admin server, of course, had "unlimited" since it was not the source of the problem.

Upgrading to V4 has lost all of my Bookmarks, I still have the restore files in my profile data but they will not load, I have tried importing the html backup file too but it didn't work either. How can I get them back?

    Ok this is bizzare!
Thank you for your response, I went throught each and every step without any luck, even got the recovery programme, and painstakingly tried to sift through all that mumbojumbo to find what i needed. finally found the bookmark bit, but it had been fully overwritten :(, so on reading about previous ff versions, found the sqlite thingys, and they were relatively unscathed(partly written over, but saveable apparently TG), saved them to adiff drive, amongst other possibly good folders. Then looked up how to install them, and it said to close FF, and install to profile folder.
So i tried to close FF, and the original problem from a few days ago, where it asked me if 'i was sure i wanted to close this window as it has X tabs open', popped up again. This is where 'open blank page' selection was set, over 'open previous tabs'. Wanting to save that info on how to sort out these friggin files, I reset the Option to 'open previous tabs', and closed FF. After unsucessfully searching for the profile folder on my laptop, i opened FF intending to search online for where i could find said folder.
AND BANG, surprise surprise, the FF I had just closed with only tabs open about finding out what the heck to do, had disappeared, and instead my original saved tabs were up, and my bookmarks are there..... I am gobsmacked! what the heck just happened there???
I have made 3 back up in different folders now, of those friggin bookmarks. I am weary now tho of shutting it all down.... what if its back to the other pages I had with no bookmarks, tomorrow :(

You mean they won't have to pay the price for a new phone to replace the broken phone with a refurbished phone thru Apple.
