File transfer Crashes 10.8 Server
I’m reaching out for someone’s more experienced analysis of an ongoing issue we’re having with a client’s server. Approximately once or twice a month for the past four months they’ve experienced server connections dropping for all connected users in their LAN. It “appears” to be caused by a single user moving, copying or saving a file, either a PDF or a Office doc, to different directories on the server. As soon as the user attempts the action their Finder locks up and the server disconnect message pops up. He’s connected via Ethernet. Other users in the LAN will then get the same server disconnect message. This first user isn’t able to screen share into the server and must do a hard shut down at the server to restart it. This user has replicated the issue on another laptop connected to their WiFi network while logged into the server with his credentials. While I thought this was an issue with his account, I’ve since created a new OD account for him with a different user name. The issue still exists.
Looking through Console logs shows occasional OD and name resolution errors. I’ve verify both host and local DNS names match. DNS records appear to be correct. Kerberos is showing as running correctly. The strange thing is there’s not any crash log matching the most recent event. I’ve included a few sections of log files for what appears to be related issues from the most recent event. I’ve also included the SystemUIServer crash log for a previous event.
Tech Info: MacMini5,3 OS 10.8.5 with 8GB ram. Latest version of 10.8 Server app.
I’m quite stumped by this one. Any assistance or guidance in troubleshooting would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Dennis

Thank you for your reply. We had an Apple consultant come in a few days after I posted this (and after a call to Apple support too) and we spent some time going over things. Apple support (and the consultant agreed) to destroy the OD master, remove all currently configured DNS and change the server host name. Afterwards, reconfigure DNS (if required) and OD. As part of this, they both recommended exporting the user accounts and importing them afterwards. This appeared to go fine, but then no fileshares worked at all (AFP and SMB broke).
The consultant eventually found that with OD disabled AFP worked with a local server user fine. He suggested not importing the user accounts but creating from scratch, and this worked too.
Really, the problem came down to two things:
1) When the server was set up originally I chose the first option in the 'what type of server will this be' list, which from what I remember was a local server. This set the host name to server.local which caused a problem when trying to configure DNS, as the server thought it was server.local but I wanted server.domain.local.
2) When reconfiguring OD, importing the old user accounts created the file sharing problem whereas brand new accounts didn't. We suspected that some part of the old configuration was transferred over with the user account import.
I configured the server as server.domain.private. I understand you don't recommend using anything other than a valid top level domain and it feels a bit odd coming from a Windows world where either .local or .tld is ok to use. I'll have a look at this a bit more I think.

Can a include file exception crash an app server?
Hi,
Can somebody please help me with the answer to this question?
Question is: I have an include file in a jsp page. But this include
file is not present on the server and hence it is giving an
exception.This exception is being caught and a message is thrown on
the console.Now, will this exception 'crash' my app server anytime?
Also will the exception be thrown everytime a user tries to access the
jsp page? Please help.
Thanks,

No. It shouldn't crash the app server.

Yes, until the file that is included exists or until the page handles the
exception.

File Transfer b/w Client - Server using JSP
Hi,
I need to implement a file transfer between the client and the server using JSP / Beans. The files can be XML Documents, Images (.gif,.jpeg) or even MS Word documents.
The user has a set directory on his file system where the files are to be saved upon download and retrieved upon upload. This system is similar to a check-in check-out system.
How do I get a reference to the directory on the users file system and then either save the downloaded files there or retrieve the files that need to be uploaded.
Thanks
coffeejavaThe only way you can do this is by using an applet, a jsp page or servlet does not have access to the system that the browser is running on. Furthermore if you were planning on using the html file form object you cannot set a value for that programmatically. It's not allowed for security reasons.

Large file transfer problems over client/server socket
Hi,
I wrote a simple chat problem in which I can send files from client to client. The problem is when I send large files over 101 MB the transfer freezes. I do not even get any error mesages in the console. The files I am sending are of any type (Ex mp3, movies, etc...). I am serializing the data into a "byteArray[packetSize]" and sending the file packet by packet until the whole file has been sent, and reconstructed on the other side. The process works perfectly for files smaller than 101MB, but for some reason freezes after that if the file is larger. I have read many forums and there aren't too many solutions out there. I made sure to use the .reset() method to reset my ObjectOutputStream each time I write to it.
Here's my file sending code:
byte[] byteArray = new byte[defaultPacketSize];
numPacketsRequired = Math.ceil(fileSize / defaultPacketSize);
try {
int i = 0;
reader = new FileInputStream(filePath);
while (reader.available() > 0) {
if (reader.available() < defaultPacketSize) {
byte[] lastPacket = new byte[reader.available()];
reader.read(lastPacket);
try {
if (socket == null || output == null) {
throw new SocketException("socket does not exist");
output.writeObject(lastPacket);
output.reset();
output.writeObject("DONE");
output.reset();
output.close();
socket.close();
catch (Exception e) {
System.out.println("Exception ***: " + e);
output.close();
socket.close();
else {
reader.read(byteArray);
try {
if (socket == null || output == null) {
throw new SocketException("socket does not exist");
output.writeObject(byteArray);
output.reset();
catch (Exception e) {
System.out.println("Exception ***: " + e);
output.close();
socket.close();
reader.close();
catch (Exception e) {
System.out.println("COULD NOT READ PACKET");
Here's my file receiving code:
try {
// The message from the client
Object streamInput;
FileOutputStream writer;
byte[] packet;
while (true) {
streamInput = input.readObject();
if (streamInput instanceof byte[]) {
packet = (byte[]) streamInput;
try {
writer = new FileOutputStream(outputPath, true);
writer.write(packet); //Storing the bytes on file
writer.close();
catch (Exception e) {
System.out.println("Exception: " + e);
else if (streamInput.equals("DONE")) {
socket.close();
input.close();
break;
catch (Exception e) {
I'm looking for any way I can possibly send large files from client to client without having it freeze. Are there any better file transfer ways other than socket? I don't really want FTP. I think I want to keep it HTTP.
Any suggestions would be helpful.Thanks!
EvanI've taken a better look a the code you posted, and
there is one problem with the receiving code. You
keep repeatedly opening and closing the
FileOutputStream. This is not going to be efficient
as the file will keep needing to be positioned to its
end.Yes sorry I did change that code so that it leaves the file open until completely done writing. Basically I have a progress bar that records how far along in the writing process the client is, and when the progress bar reaches 100%, meaning the file is complete, the file.close() method is invoked. Sorry about that.
I also ran some memory tests using the "Runtime.getRuntime().totalMemory()", and "Runtime.getRuntime().freeMemory()" methods. I put these methods inside the loop where I read in the file and send it to the client. here's the output:

File transfer crashes Secure Global Desktop
My computer runs Win XP Pro, and I connect to a remote server running Windows Server 2000. After connecting to the server, if I try to transfer a zipped file larger than a few KBytes from my computer to the server, the Windows "copying files" screen hangs, and the session crashes, forcing me to log off and log on again. No problem transferring files TO my computer from the server, and no problem transferring large un-zipped files FROM my computer to the server. Is there a fix for this problem?
There should be a fix for this. You'll have to contact support.

Hi,
I have one FTP server , I need to transfer a file from this FTP server to aother external FTP server. Could any one please help me how to write a batch file on FTP server so that my file is transfered to another FTP server by executing the Batch file. I don't want to use SAP server for this.

bobbyCREATE CONTROLFILE
Caution:
Oracle recommends that you perform a full backup of all files in the database before using this statement. For more information, see Oracle9i User-Managed Backup and Recovery Guide.
Purpose
Use the CREATE CONTROLFILE statement to re-create a control file in one of the following cases:
All copies of your existing control files have been lost through media failure.
You want to change the name of the database.
You want to change the maximum number of redo log file groups, redo log file members, archived redo log files, datafiles, or instances that can concurrently have the database mounted and open.
Note:
If it is necessary to use the CREATE CONTROLFILE statement, do not include in the DATAFILE clause any datafiles in temporary or read-only tablespaces. You can add these types of files to the database later.
An alternative to the CREATE CONTROLFILE statement is ALTER DATABASE BACKUP CONTROLFILE TO TRACE, which generates a SQL script in the trace file to re-create the controlfile. If your database contains any read-only or temporary tablespaces, that SQL script will also contain all the necessary SQL statements to add those files back into the database.

Why is the Oracle database server to be used? For what purpose?
There are standard secure methods for a client to copy a file to a server. Such as sftp and scp. No complex Oracle database server layer needed in-between.
So why do you want to use the Oracle database to act as the copy mechanism for you?
It will only make sense if the local file is copied into the database (as a LOB or securefile) and managed by the database. I fail to see why Oracle should be acting as the go-between for the client file system copy process to the server file system. This introduces another moving part in the copy process. Adds more security issues. Adds more authentication issues. And what for? -
XML escaping issue in ABAP during XML file transfer to App. Server.
Hello Partners:
I was going through some work of XML integration of SAP with a third-party. But came across an issue:
The text descriptions we are sending within an XML tag has certain special characters like '&'. But the XML parser is not escaping it. Hence its replacing '&' with "&" in the XML data string. So now I need to understand how can we implement escaping via ABAP for generated XML strings? Can you all please help me to understand which methods to use and how?
It will be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Vivek Singh.Hello SAP Friends!
I'm facing the same problem concerning special chars in XML. I've tried to unescape the '&' sign with methods of if_ixml_ostream
l_ostream->set_ignore_escaping( ignore_escaping = '&' ).
the character is set and can be called by
l_str = l_ostream->get_ignore_escaping( ).
After the rendering was done and the download has finished the xml document can be loaded in EXCEL but the special characters are replaced by & a m p;
Has anybody found a method to avoid the behaviour?
My original problem is, the the data have to be in one cell in excel. I know at present no method to download data (text including line feeds) from SAP to excel into one cell.
Maybe you have found a way to use ignore_escaping in correct way!
Thanks a lot in advance!!! -
Hello,
I have noticed that when I'm distributing large files (Operating System Images) to our on-site distribution points, the file transfers have been taking a substantial amount of time. Using resource monitor and task manager, the transfer is happening at less
than 100Mb/s on our Gigabit network. However, when I do a normal file transfer between the site server and distribution point using Explorer, the transfer maxes out the connection at 970-987Mb/s.
I have confirmed that BITS is disabled for all my distribution points, maximum threads per package was increased to 500 with no performance increase, and Client Computer Communication under site properties is set to HTTPS or HTTP (distribution points set
to HTTP).
Setup:
Site Server - Server 2012
3 Distribution Points (On-site) - Server 2012
I did a lot of research online the past few days and didn't find anything relating to my issue, nor any solutions resolving this slow transfer. Is there something I'm not understanding correctly or may I have a setting wrong?BITS is not used when transferring content to DPs (unless you are using pull DPs).
Have you alreada checked if the transfer to those DPs is throttled (can be found in the properties of each remote DP)?
Also monitor distmgr.log and pkgtransfermgr.log.
The 'Rate Limits' tab on each distribution point's properties page is set to unlimited. The only thing I can think of is the environment was setup in our old building (just built a new headquarters) on a 100Mbit connection, but the new building now has gigabit.

Recently my company decided to turn off file transfer through federation while leaving it on internal. We did not think this would be of much notice but did not have much insight on what kind of traffic this modality had. After turning it off it only took
about a week for the complaints to start rolling in. This leads to my current development effort. I have created a MSPL script to capture the file transfer on my edge server and everything is great there. I am now trying to create a UCMA application that will
sit and listen and when called would intercept the message, copy the file and download it, then send it back on to its intended recipient. I guess I underestimated how difficult this would be. It looks like for mediatypes there is not one even in the API for
file transfer. Talking to MS they said I would need to extend out the API. I have done this so far to include the file transfer as a mediatype. But I need help in trying to extend whatever handler I need to use to listen and notice that a file transfer is
happening. Can anyone assist in this?
Thanks,

Ichat 4 + Google Talk + file transfer
Hi!
I'm trying to send files from iChat to iChat both with GoogleTalk
accounts without success.
The file transfer window displays that it is preparing but this goes
on forever. At the receiver the file transfer windows says
calculating.
Both are using 10.5.2 with an up to date iChat. Firewall is off.
ScreenSharing and Audio/Video is working fine.
I tested it with .Mac accounts and there file transfering is working
without any problems.
Thanks for any hint to solve this problem. It is really bothering me.
Cheers,
StefanI've tested this between my Google Talk account and my Jabber account. I used iChat on my Mac Mini to connect to iChat on my MacBook. Both are running 10.5.2. I found that for Jabber file transfers there are two phases. In phase 1 the Chat clients negotiate the file transfer parameters using the server as an intermediary. In phase 2 the receiver uses TCP to connect to the port from phase 1. If the connection is successful the file transfer begins. If it fails the sender can offer another IP address/port for transfer and the receiver can try again. This goes on until the sender has exhausted his list of available IP addresses and ports.
Problems with file transfer will usually happen at phase 1. At the end of phase 1 the Chat client that wishes to send the file sends a message that details the IP address and port for the receiver. The receiver should try to connect to this IP address and port and get the file. This will fail if there is either a NAT or a Firewall between the receiver and the sender. A NAT botches the transfer because iChat doesn't do anything to try to figure out what it's real address is. A firewall botches the transfer by discarding the inbound TCP SYN packets that initiate the communication between sender and receiver. This is made worse by the fact that as sender iChat doesn't use the same TCP port for transfer all the time.
In the end file transfer will work for two chat clients that can deliver packets between each other. Two people on the same LAN or on two seperate addresses that are neither NATed nor Firewalled. I've also got this going for people who have a VPN. iChat doesn't help you here. In fact it makes things worse by not choosing a constant port which means that arranging for transfer in your firewall policy is problematic. Ideally a chat client like Psi can be made to work. Psi allows the user to specify both the port and IP address specified in transfer.

How do I transfer files from my AIX database server to my Windows AS?
Hello, I need to transfer log files from my AIX database server to my Windows AS so I can view them in a form. Any ideas??
RegardsInstall samba with the samba client (smbclient). Push them via the smbclient directly to you Windows machine OR the other way around, start the samba deamons (smbd and nmbd). Make a Windows network share on your AIX machine and view them in your form directly.
If you can't use samba then an alternative is the use of NFS -
File transfer from UNIX server to Windows server path
Hello Experts, (Gud Even Gud Aft & Gud Mor)
Is there a way to transfer file from UNIX server(Oracle database), to Windows server? All I know if Windows path. I am able to read the file as it is on server, however it does not recognize Windows directory at all.
If you can share some documents around this to study, I will be grateful.

NFS on the Unix server sharing the directory containing the file. FTP server on Unix allowing the file to be read and copied. OpenSSH on the Unix allowing the file to be read and copied via scp (secure copy).
But seeing as this is an Oracle database forum (not an operating system forum), and the subject matter is the database server languages SQL and PL/SQL, here is a PL/SQL solution.
Create a table using the BFILE data type for referencing the files on the Unix o/s. Provide a web enabled procedure for downloading the files via HTTP using a web browser. This procedure will look something as follows:
--// URL example: http://my-server.my-domain.com/MyDAD/MySchemaName.StreamFile?fileID=1234
create or replace procedure StreamFile( fileID number ) AUTHID DEFINER is
mimeType varchar2(48);
fileName varchar2(400);
lobContent BLOB;
begin
--// read the LOB from a table (this example uses the
--// Apex file uploads table - change it to your own files table)
select
f.filename,
f.mime_type,
f.blob_content
into
fileName,
mimeType,
lobContent
from FLOWS_FILES.WWV_FLOW_FILE_OBJECTS$ f
where f.id = fileID;
--// format a basic HTTP header that describes the file stream send
OWA_UTIL.mime_header( mimeType, FALSE ); -- e.g. text/csv text/plain text/html image/gif
HTP.p( 'Content-Disposition: attachment; filename='||fileName );
HTP.p( 'Content-Length: ' || DBMS_LOB.GetLength(lobContent) );
OWA_UTIL.http_header_close;
--// now write the BLOB as a mime stream using the Web Procedural Gateway's
--// doc load API
WPG_DOCLOAD.download_file( lobContent );
exception when OTHERS then
--// Decide what HTML to generate (if at all) if there is a failure
--// (usually not a good idea to show database errors to the
--// web browser client as that can provide technical details
--// that could be useful for exploiting the database)
HTP.prn( 'StreamFile() failed with '||SQLERRM(SQLCODE) );
end;
/ On Windows, IE can be used interactively to copy the file across. For automation (via PowerShell or console jobs), use a command like tool like wget* to download the file.
If you do not want to use SQL or PL/SQL as the file copy mechanism, then please close this thread (mark as answered) and take your question to an appropriate forum.

Proxy Server in File Transfer System
Hi, I need to write out a file transfer system through a proxy server for my project
All the while i was writing a file transfer system directly from client to server without any security issue
Anyway, the scope is given as below, and i know it needs the JSSE package to come out a SSLSocket and SSLServerSocket.
The question is...
1. can i use NIO with JSSE included?
2. how to come out a java proxy server? is there any tutorial i can read through?
The scope is given as below
1) Proxy server
* perform tunning and keep the linking between file transfer host and client
* authenticate the file transfer client using CA certificate to establish SSL connection
* Once authorised, need to establish another SSL connection to host engine
2) File Transfer Manager at Client
* To initiate SSL connection to proxy server
* To open two type of connection: command and file connection
* The command connection is always keep alive
* For the file connection, the system required to re-open another connection after send file to host
* Auto-reconnect to server when the connection is down
* Re-handshake the SSL connection when the channel is inactive for sometime
3) File Transfer Manager at host
* To authenticate the proxy server and authorise the client before establish the connection
* Manage the connection
* request to client to open new connection (by sending command) when there is no file connection available to send file to client
* Request for re-handshake the SSL connection when the channel is inactive for sometimeHi,
It is a new feature of SMB3 named SMB MultiChannel, which helps copy files through multiple NICs.
Detailed information please see:
http://blogs.technet.com/b/josebda/archive/2012/05/13/the-basics-of-smb-multichannel-a-feature-of-windows-server-2012-and-smb-3-0.aspx
As mentioned you can disable or enable it with following steps:
2.2. Disabling
SMB Multichannel is enabled by default and there is typically no need to disable it.
However, if you want to disable SMB Multichannel (for testing purposes, for instance), you can use the following PowerShell cmdlets:
On the SMB server side:
Set-SmbServerConfiguration -EnableMultiChannel $false
On the SMB client side:
Set-SmbClientConfiguration -EnableMultiChannel $false
Note: Disabling the feature on either the client or the server prevent the systems from using it.
2.3. Re-enabling
You can re-enable SMB Multichannel after you disabled it by using:
On the SMB server side:
Set-SmbServerConfiguration -EnableMultiChannel $true
On the SMB client side:
Set-SmbClientConfiguration -EnableMultiChannel $true
Note: You need to enable the feature on both the client or the server to start using it again.
