File transfer during Leopard upgrade

I'm considering upgrading from OS X 10.4.11 to Leopard on my iMac. Will all my files, pics, movie projects, and folders remain intact and in place during the upgrade? How does it work?

Depends upon what install option you use. I would consider doing the following things:
*1. Repair the hard drive and permissions*:
Boot from your Tiger Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger and Leopard.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (4.0 for Tiger, and 4.1 for Leopard) and/or TechTool Pro (4.6.1 for Leopard) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
*2. Clone your existing system to an external hard drive*:
a. Open Disk Utility from the Utilities folder.
b. Select the destination volume from the left side list.
c. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (journaled, if available) and click on the Erase button. This step can be skipped if the destination has already been freshly erased.
d. Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
e. Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
f. Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to the Source entry field.
g. Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the external drive to which you will clone.
Source means the drive you are cloning - your startup volume.
*3. Install Leopard using the Archive and Install option*:
An Archive and Install will NOT erase your hard drive, but you must have sufficient free space for a second OS X installation which could be from 3-9 GBs depending upon the version of OS X and selected installation options. The free space requirement is over and above normal free space requirements which should be at least 6-10 GBs. Read all the linked references carefully before proceeding.
A. Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When you reach the screen to select a destination drive click once on the destination drive then click on the Option button. Select the Archive and Install option. You have an option to preserve users and network preferences. Only select this option if you are sure you have no corrupted files in your user accounts. Otherwise leave this option unchecked. Click on the OK button and continue with the OS X Installation.
B. Upon completion of the Archive and Install you will have a Previous System Folder in the root directory. You should retain the PSF until you are sure you do not need to manually transfer any items from the PSF to your newly installed system.
C. After moving any items you want to keep from the PSF you should delete it. You can back it up if you prefer, but you must delete it from the hard drive.
D. You can now download any unpdates using Software Update.

  • How the file transfer during dynamic download??

Post-issuance applet loaded to the Java Card by tranfering the cap file to the java card, am i right? So i want to know how the file being transfered in the unsecure open network such as internet during dynamic applet dowloading. We transfer the cap file through the internet? or do we need to send apdu command as well for example InitUpdate, ExAuthen, install, load etc..? In what format all these file transfer through internet to the card? Any guidance is appreciated!! Thank you!

The card doesn't care about how you got the CAP file. So it was transferred thru an unsecured network. Big deal ! Wether it was generated offsite and downloaded thru the net or it was generated onsite and transferred thru emails, the card doesn't care! That's up to your infrastructure to establish.
To load the CAP file requires a middleware of some sort to send the APDU commands. Of course that middleware needs to reside on the client side because server doesn't know about each client's hardware configuration. So the client will request the CAP file from the server. Once the file is downloaded, it is then loaded onto the card.
I know your next question is what is middleware so to save a post I'll answer it. PCSC, OCF, proprietary reader drivers. Recall, you don't actually talk to a card, you talk to a reader and it communciates to the card. Middleware is that interface to the reader. The middleware is what sends the card edge, or APDU commands for processing. Commonly used middleware is PCSC. All reader manufacturers for desktops support it.

  • Can't download files after Snow Leopard upgrade

    Hello all,
yesterday I upgraded my leopard to snow leopard, since then I cannot download files with safari (also tried firefox, camino). When I click some link it looks like its going to start downloading but it doesn't. Most of the links are .dmg files. I have tried these steps so far but the problem still occurs.
    1) Repair the Disk Permissions.
    2) Downloaded onyx to clean the system.
    3) Cleaned the safari cache and settings, as well as the plugins directory.
    4) installed firefox and camino but they act the same.
    5) I uninstalled iGetter (if I copy the link location and add it to iGetter I can download the file).
    6) I created a new User to check if the problem was system wide or with the user account. The problem is the same in the new user account as well.
Any ideas what to try next ?
    Thank you all in advance.
    John.
    ps: I have 10.6.2 and safari 4.04.

Try using your OnyX to clean the LaunchSevices caches, or use Terminal.
Launch /Utilities/Terminal and copy & paste this at the command line to rebuild LaunchServices:
    Code:
    <pre class="alt2" style="margin:0px; padding:3px; border:1px inset; width:640px; height:34px; overflow:auto">/System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/LaunchSe rvices.framework/Versions/A/Support/lsregister -kill -r -domain local -domain system -domain user</pre>
Then press return. Wait until terminal returns to the command line. Quit Terminal. After that, log out and back in or restart. Let us know

  • File lost during numbers upgrade

I believe I lost a file in Numbers on my iPad as a result of the upgrade that I carried out on 25.4.2011. I had created the file in the 'Getting Started' tutorial, so I am assuming that the upgrade contained an updated tutorial which replaced the older tutorial on my iPad, ignoring the fact that I had altered it. The last backup of my iPad on iTunes is dated 2.5.11. Is there any way I can roll back to the previous version of Numbers, that included my file?

  • SCP log file transfer issues after upgrade

We upgraded out AsyncOS from 6.3.3 to 7.1.3 and now we are encountering log transfer issues with 2 out of 3 WSA's. Also the log rotation is set at 3GB but is rotating at 1GB. Anyone have any suggestions?

    Hi Dominick,
FIrst look at your log subscriptions for the access logs. Log into the GUI -> System Administration -> Log Subscriptions -> Access Logs highlighted in blue on the left side of the window. Check that your configuration is set to your needs. Next we need to review what is taking place when SCP tries to send the logs to the destination by reviewing the System Logs also located within the log subscriptions. Is the destination a Windows or Linux device ? If it is a Linux device you may also want to look into var/log/secure for the log information there as well.

  • Incomplete file transfer during synchronization

We have a VB application on a Oracle Lite in remote shops. Shops are being synchronized every 20 min with the central server using Oracle Mobile Server. We use Mobile server also for deploying new versions and patches. But sometimes synchronization is causing problems because file that we want to deploy on machines in shop is not copied complete and is overwrite the original file. After that, the application and/or database won't work and we have to connect manually to fix problem.
My question: is there any mechanism that can ensure that file is being installed only after verification that COMPLETE file is being transferred.
Hope that i succeed to elaborate my problem and that someone can give me idea or hint.
    Thx in advance.

  • Leopard Upgrade and Loss of File Transfer to Windows PC

Loss of File Transfer to Windows PC - I successfully upgraded my MacBook to Leopard with the following exception where I was previously able to transfer files to a Windows PC. I can still connect to the PC but unable to see the folders in "finder" or move files over to it. I can still do this however from my other Mac (iMac) which is still on Tiger. What would the upgrade have done to prevent file transfer being done?
    Thanks Neil

I had similar problems with browsing Windows shares... Initially I performed an Upgrade installation of Leopard. A temporary work-around was to use the IP address of the Windows computer.
For example (in the Connect To Server dialog) use:
    smb://<IP address>/sharename
Obviously, you'll have to determine the local network IP for your Windows computer and know the name of the share. You can do this by opening up a CMD window and issuing the following command at the prompt:
    ipconfig/all
    Hope that wasn't too "technical".
Note: What fixed the whole problem for me was to perform a clean installation of Leopard... Now all the Windows computers on the network appear under Shared in the Finder sidebar.

On FileZila click on the User Accounts Icon. The dialog box will show you  defined users. By default only anonymous is created.
So you need to create a local ftp username and passowrd. Then assign it a home directory under shared folders. This will be the dfault location a remote clietn will look for files and where you would find the ISE upgrade package, for example.
    See following screenshot....

  • Leopard decides to go to sleep during file transfer ***!

For some reason Leopard doesn't think that a file transfer is something that should be obeyed before it goes to sleep. I had a 7 hour network file transfer going on and leopard just went to sleep. Makes me want to break something.

Go to System Preferences > Energy Saver and select the Sleep tab. Drag the "Put the computer to sleep when it is inactive for:" to "Never".
Also ensure that the "Put the hard disk to sleep when possible" is unchecked.

This issue is related to SAPGUI, as i have the latest sapgui installed 710 that works well for ECC.
But if i input the parameter in sap 46b system , and execute to get the graphic chart i get this:
The Generation of Graphs for Stock Movements in the MC49 Transaction.
When you call a hierarchy graphic, the following error messages are displayed

  • Will all files transfer when I install the Snow Leopard?

I finally went ahead and bought the Snow Leopard upgrade (currently running 10.5.8). When I install this, will all of my current documents, files, photos, etc. transfer over or would I have to save them to a thumb drive or similar device and then transfer them all over manually?

…as long as I don't do a complete erase and clean install, all my files and data should transfer over, is this correct?
Yes. Just select upgrade. However, before you do, ensure that you have a viable backup, preferably a bootable one. That allows you to revert w/o restoring.

  • When upgrading to OSX Yosemite do all my programs and files transfer over such as Office for mac, saved documents from word, excel, pics, pdf files,etc.etc...

Will all my files transfer over (or stay) automatically right after upgrading to Yosemite or do I have to backup every single desired program or document? Question is do I HAVE to please if you can answer if its mandatory or not. Not looking for recommendations that I SHOULD back up or anything like that just want to know if it is mandatory to perform a backup to be able to keep or transfer all my current programs and apps and documents currently on my MB Pro Retina.

Yes, upgrading to Yosemite will not touch your 3rd party apps or files in the Home folder.
Although not mandatory you should have a a backup of your hard drive regardless if you upgrade to Yosemite or not.  To not have a backup is just playing  Russian roulette as there are only two types of hard drives;  those that have failed and those that will.

  • Does Anybody know how to keep the license files and Certificates in ISE-3315 During the upgrade.

    Hi,
I have two ISE-3315 Appliances in production network.
I need someone's help to explain, how to make the Secondary node as the primary admin note to reset-config.
And then I would like to know how to keep the license files and Certificate during the Upgrade.
Please help me to answer my questions.
    Thanks
    CSCO11872447

The Cisco Identity Services Engine (ISE) provides distributed  deployment of runtime services with centralized configuration and  management. Multiple nodes can be deployed together in a distributed  fashion to support failover.
If you register a  secondary Monitoring ISE node, it is recommended that you first back up  the primary Monitoring ISE node and then restore the data to the new  secondary Monitoring ISE node. This ensures that the history of the  primary Monitoring ISE node is in sync with the new secondary node as  new changes are replicated.
Please  Check the below configuration guide for Secondary ISE- Nodes.
