File transfer from PC to MAC

I am planning on switching to a MAC from windows. I was going to use an external hard drive to move my files from my pc but noted that the external must be formatted for MAC use. How can accomplish file transfer without difficulty?

Transferring via a Windows formatted hard drive is a good method.  You might also take a look at the Windows Migration Assistant.

  • Slow file transfer from pc to mac

I've got two windows xp home pcs and two macs (a mac mini and an ibook). The windows PCs are connected to the wired network and both macs are wireless.
When I try to initiate a file transfer on either pc to either mac, the file transfer is really slow (slower than I think it should be). It's very annoying.
Does anyone have any idea what causes this and how to fix it? Thanks.

I've got some more information: when Windows NT initiates a file transfer to the mac using windows file sharing, the transfer speed is fast. It's XP that has the problem. Is this a windows XP problem or a Mac OS X problem? Last time I checked, the macs were both able to communicate with each other just fine.
Ok, here's the transfer speeds approx: a 100mb file is normally quickly transferred in about a minute. When the windows xp machine tries to send to the mac, the transfer will take many times longer to complete.
Can anyone help with this problem? Anyone at all? Please? I'm annoyed about this issue.
So, what's the fix? Please. Thanks.

  • Frequent File Transfer from PC to Mac

I have a recurring dilemma and am soliciting your thoughts and ideas.  At work, I have a PC desktop computer connected to the enterprise network.  In order to avoid printing 50+ pages of documents each day, I purchased a MacBook Air to bring to meetings and on business trips.  Throughout the day, I receive documents (usually via work email to my PC) and would like to have them with me on the MacBook Air in meetings.  The documents are typically PDFs, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project files.  There are some unique limitations which make this very difficult:
    1)  I cannot use USB devices on my work PC
    2)  I cannot connect flash storage devices to my work PC
    3)  My MacBook Air cannot connect to the work network, and there is no WiFi in the building
    4)  If I have to, I can purchase a USB superdrive for the MacBook Air to read/write DVDs, but I would like to avoid the extra purchase
    5)  Due to network restrictions at work, I cannot access online file storage solutions such as DropBox, Amazon Cloud, iCloud, Sugarsync, Box, etc.
    6)  The desktop PC does not have bluetooth
    7)  The work network firewalls strip attachments from all emails leaving the enterprise, which I cannot access from my MacBook Air even if it were connected to the internet, so emailing documents is not an option
    8)  As the files are typically rather small (less than 10 MB) and frequent, I do not want to burn a CD-R each time.  Read/Write is a must.
    I'm stumped!  /:
    Thoughts?  Ideas?
    Thanks!

You will probably have to install Windows 7 on your Mac, via BootCamp so that you can access the intranet using a thunderbolt to ethernet adapter.

You don't. File transfer, by Bluetooth, has never been supported on any iPhone. To import pics/videos in your camera roll, read here:

    Hi All
One of my client (User) wants to transfer his file from  SAP R/3 System SAP XI system. He is using a customize t-code ZFIR0325 (Trial balance report transfer to Hyperian System). When user execute the  program he is getting error "File Transfer Failed due to Network chk with Admin"
I checked with Network team but they said it is okay from their side. We also check for authorization but there is no issue regarding authorization.
Name of File Path of Aplication Server, XI destinaion and XI directory entered by user is correct.
We also put authorization trace in XI System to RFC User (In file transfer from one system to another system this RFC User is geeing Used) but no authorization issue was found.
Please help me to resolve this problem. I any detail require I will provide the same.

Firstly, no one in the community can answer on how a custom transcation code and a program associated with it behaves.
If there are no authorization issues in the system, you have to look at the exact error message. Look if your XI system is allowed to receive files from the SAP system.
Unfortunately, you should do some more home work before putting your question here. If everything is fine and configured correctly, then the issue might be with the program.

  • File transfer from one system to another system

How can I use ODI to do file transfer from one system to another system ?
Do I need to create Models or I have to simply use Jython procedure/script to do the same ? Kindly help. I have done DB to DB using Knowledge Modules. But I am not able to understand this piece.
    Kindly help.

If you are asking about file transfer use ODI FTP tool to do it. If you are asking about file transformation..
You can not do file transformation directly in ODI like we do in any other ETL tool like data stage or Ab Initio.. File transformation in ODI can be done using staging database in an interface(i.e ELT way).
Create source and target data stores for the file to be transformed. Create an interface using File to SQL LKM to load the file into staging database and then use SQL to File Integration knowledge module.

  • Original File transfer from G4 to new G5

About to buy G5 20" this week -
Apple Store says they can do file transfer from my imac G4 to new G5 for me at time of purchase, but cannot transfer any 3rd party apps (Photoshop, Ill, DreamW, Acrobat, Word, etc.). However in users manual it looks like if I do it originally myself with SetUp assistant, I can include these apps -- but perhaps not later using Migration Assistant after Apple Store has used the SetUp assistant. I'd like to avoid having to re-install all my apps if possible.
Also, If I do it SetUp Assistant myself, is it best to use Firewire cable vs. Ethernet?
    Any intelligence/advice would be appreciated.
    thanks

I would just drag app files over via Firewire (which is superior over ethernet).

A Basic Guide for Migrating to Intel-Macs
The Knowledgebase article <a href="http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1963?viewlocale=en_US">Intel-based Mac: Some migrated applications may need to be updated</a> refers to methods of dealing with migrating from PowerPC chips to Intel with the Migration Assistant safely. The authors of this tip have not had a chance to verify this works in all instances, or that it avoids the 10.6.1 and earlier Guest Account bug that caused account information to get deleted upon use of the Migration/Setup Assistant. However, a well backed up source that includes at least two backups of all the data that are not connected to your machine will help you avoid potential issues, should they arise. In event it does not work, follow the steps below.
If you are migrating a PowerPC system (G3, G4, or G5) to an Intel-Mac be careful what you migrate.  Keep in mind that some items that may get transferred will not work on Intel machines and may end up causing your computer's operating system to malfunction.
Rosetta supports "software that runs on the PowerPC G3, G4, or G5 processor that are built for Mac OS X". This excludes the items that are not universal binaries or simply will not work in Rosetta:
    >Classic Environment, and subsequently any Mac OS 9 or earlier applications
    >Screensavers written for the PowerPC
    >System Preference add-ons
    >All Unsanity Haxies
    >Browser and other plug-ins
    >Contextual Menu Items
    >Applications which specifically require the PowerPC G5
    >Kernel extensions
    >Java applications with JNI (PowerPC) libraries</li>
    See also <a href="http://developer.apple.com/documentation/MacOSX/Conceptual/universal_binary/univ ersal_binary_exec_a/chapter_950_section_1.html#//apple_ref/doc/uid/TP40002217-CH 210-TPXREF101">What Can Be Translated by Rosetta</a>.
In addition to the above you could also have problems with migrated cache files and/or cache files containing code that is incompatible.
If you migrate a user folder that contains any of these items, you may find that your Intel-Mac is malfunctioning. It would be wise to take care when migrating your systems from a PowerPC platform to an Intel-Mac platform to assure that you do not migrate these incompatible items.
If you have problems with applications not working, then completely uninstall said application and reinstall it from scratch. Take great care with Java applications and Java-based Peer-to-Peer applications. Many Java apps will not work on Intel-Macs as they are currently compiled. As of this time Limewire, Cabos, and Acquisition are available as universal binaries. Do not install browser plug-ins such as Flash or Shockwave from downloaded installers unless they are universal binaries. The version of OS X installed on your Intel-Mac comes with special compatible versions of Flash and Shockwave plug-ins for use with your browser.
The same problem will exist for any hardware drivers such as mouse software unless the drivers have been compiled as universal binaries. For third-party mice the current choices are USB Overdrive or SteerMouse. Contact the developer or manufacturer of your third-party mouse software to find out when a universal binary version will be available.
Also be careful with some backup utilities and third-party disk repair utilities. Disk Warrior 4.1, TechTool Pro 4.6.1, SuperDuper 2.5, and Drive Genius 2.0.2 work properly on Intel-Macs with Leopard.  The same caution may apply to the many "maintenance" utilities that have not yet been converted to universal binaries.  Leopard Cache Cleaner, Onyx, TinkerTool System, and Cocktail are now compatible with Leopard.
Before migrating or installing software on your Intel-Mac check <a href="http://www.macfixit.com/article.php?story=20060126094146180">MacFixit's Rosetta Compatibility Index</a>.

<a href="http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25773">Transferring data with Setup Assistant - Migration Assistant FAQ</a>
Because Migration Assistant isn't the ideal way to migrate from PowerPC to Intel Macs, using Target Disk Mode, copying the critical contents to CD and DVD, an external hard drive, or networking
will work better when moving from PowerPC to Intel Macs.   The initial section below discusses Target Disk Mode.  It is then followed by a section which discusses networking with Macs that lack Firewire.
<b>If both computers support the use of Firewire then you can use the following instructions</b>:
    1. Repair the hard drive and permissions using Disk Utility.
    2. Backup your data.  This is vitally important in case you make a mistake or there's some other problem.
    3. Connect a Firewire cable between your old Mac and your new Intel Mac.
    4. Startup your old Mac in Target Disk Mode.
    5. Startup your new Mac for the first time, go through the setup and registration screens, but do NOT migrate data over. Get to your desktop on the new Mac without migrating any new data over.
<b>If you are not able to use a Firewire connection (for example you have a Late 2008 MacBook that only supports USB:)</b>
    1. Set up a local home network: <a href="http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1433">Creating a small Ethernet Network</a>.

I just transferred my excel files from pc to mac and now i can't open them, it says they are "locked for editing" by user (i did not lock them) i can only open as read only.  Is there a fix for this problem? Anyone else had this problem?

    Where are these files saved??
    Maybe this will help...
    I found this post on a different web site - http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/mac/forum/macoffice2011-macexcel/office-files -locked-for-editing-in-mixed/d838b0d7-6b26-4206-b310-029c73cf0ba6.
This problem is caused by a temporary file that was not deleted after a previous edit session was completed. The file is hidden and not normally visible through the Finder. The easiest way to view hidden files is to install the hidden files dashboard widget which is available here:
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/dashboard/developer/hiddenfiles_matthansen.html.
Use the widget to show hidden files then use Finder to open the folder that contains the spreadsheet you wish to edit. If your spreadsheet is named abc.xlsx, you will also see a file named ~$abc.xlsx. Delete the file that begins with ~$ and you will be good to go.

If you used the Migration Assistant outside of setting up the computer, they're in a separate user account. Open the Users folder on the internal drive and either drag the migrated account to the desktop or the files to the /Users/Shared/ folder. Otherwise, search for one, select it, choose Get Info from the File menu, and check the path.
