File type vs. Battery Life (zen xtra 30

for a while i was getting about 0-2 hrs (estimated, never acutally timed) per charge after having the player for a few months. then i tried changing my files from wma 92kbps to mp3 320kbps, but the mp3 files took up too much space (even thought they sounded really good). now im back to wma@92, but im only getting 6 hrs out of the battery. i've even left on till it ran out, then recharged it...but the batter still depleted faster than normal. what would be the best sounding file type that uses the least amout of battery type. ohh, just to make sure...i've been reading these fourms and have gotten the impression that the zen xtra can charge via usb. if this is true, could someone help me w. that--it would be most appreciated.

The file type shouldn't really matter that much, though SSR is right that high bit rates will use more battery up than low bit rates. I hear that EAX turned on really eats up the battery. I never use it. It seems a gimick to me, but lots of other people seem to love it.
I don't think the Zen Xtra will charge throught the USB port. The manual does not mention it.

  • Is the battery in zen xtra the same one in muvo sl

I have azen xtra and am thinking of getting a muvo slim. I will only be using the slim for outdoor stuff so it could sit idle for weeks at a time. I realize this is not a good thing for my harddri've zen xtra but if its same battery could an idle muvo slim cause battery recharge problems? Is it perhaps better to get a muvo tx fm with a triple a battery that i can take out when not in use?I do like the slim but it not using it all time causes problems i will go with tx fm. thanks matt

    Matt,
Both player are using a different set of battery.

  • Audible file starts at beginning when Zen XTRA 40gb is not powered on after about 24

I don't know if this is the case for everyone, but my Zen XTRA, if it is not powered on for more than 24 hours, it seems the memory is reset and does a cold boot from the Creative logo screen, and when I play my Audible file, instead of playing from where it left off before the power off, it plays from the beginning. If I don't bookmark before I power off, and don't use my player for over 24hours, I have to manually forward to where I last left off in my audible program.
It's kind of an annoyance. I wonder if it's only my player, or if other players are having the same problem.

Just so you know, I have the same problem with my Zen Xtra and found your post looking for a solution. Yes, it's a pain, and I wish I had an answer. If you find a fix (the bookmark workaround seems reasonable in the short term), please post it here. I'll do the same. Good luck.

  • Deleting more than one file at a time from Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra 4

Is there a way to delete more than one file at a time from Zen Xtra? Actually, I'd like to delete most of the 800+ files and the only way I've found is to do them one at a time..! Help!

Either use finder to drag and drop those tracks onto
"Library" in iTunes' left "Source" column or from
iTunes Menu Files use "Add to Library ..." then
navigate to a folder that keep a yoru tracks and
    select that folder.
This did it! I was doing an "import" which would only let me do one song at a time. But the "add to library" and the drag and drop both worked. Thanks!!!

  • Zen Xtra MTP Issues

Ok so im having the well known MTP/WMP problems, have spent hours going through the forums looking for solutions to this problem, yes i tried the XP route with very little success because i have an XP system with sp3 (called around cannot find anyone with an sp2 system) and after much frustration and dissapointment i came up with an idea.
Is it possible to make an image file of a fully functional Zen Xtra hard drive and burn it onto a freshly formated hard drive?
I realize that the whole copyright BS will come up but im very upset with the way Creative has handled this issue, Im not looking for your music files i just want to be able to use the machine that I payed good money for!
I have an original Zen Xtra with a 30 GB HD, furthermore ( i hope Creative staff reads this ) if i have no choice but to go out and buy a new mp3 player, guess what im not buying? Yes! IM NOT BUYING ANOTHER CREATIVE EVER IN MY LIFE! Thanks for the poor customer service Creative.

I realize that the player will not read an ISO file, but you can burn an image (ISO, NRG, Etc) onto another hard dri've. I suspect that the problem is on the operating system that goes on the hard dri've because when i unistall the drivers windows detects the zen xtra and install the drivers, windows reads the firmware on the motherboard, when i try to reinstall/update the firmware it says the xtra is not connected.Look as a Creative customer, i believe that Creative should look into a fix for its customers, telling your customers to find a system with XP SP2 & WMP0 is absurd, windows will automatically update itself, everyone tells people?to update their software why would you tell us to backtrack to something that may be hard to find at this point in time? Please stop reffering us to someone else, we are YOUR customers help us out!!!!!
I don't disagree with you but if you want that player to work you need Xp & at least Sp2(3 may be ok) but WMP0 is necessary as WMP prevents the firmware file from seeing the player.Did you uninstall WMP as per Microsofts instructions? http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win...tallation.mspx

  • Magic Mouse Battery Life Is Poor

I'm using Duracell, Ultra Advanced AA batteries and I'm finding they last approximately on average 21 days.
Is anyone else seeing the same type of battery life on their Magic Mice?
    Thanks!

    Hello m:
21 days - if you use the computer quite a bit - is pretty good.
I stopped using regular batteries quite awhile ago. I use 2650 mAh Duracells and a 15 minute Duracell charger. I bought all of them on eBay (new) at a very reasonable price. Your overall cost when using rechargeables is lower and they are environmentally friendly. Rechargeables do not last as long as regular batteries (different voltage) but 15 minutes is as long as I am out of service.

  • Typical Battery Life

Does anyone have the "typical" life of the battery in an iPhone? My phone is currently sitting at less than 20% battery life. Last full charge was 21hrs 38min and total usage since last full charge is 2hrs 33 min.
I really didn't expect that I would have to recharge my iPhone every day with such little usage.
In addition, I have bluetooth and wifi disabled.
I'd like to know what type of battery life others are getting from their phone before I go to Apple for support.

Usage will vary with how exactly the phone is being used, since each application uses a different amount of power. There are a few people on here who claim to consistently get 8 hours or more of usage off a single charge (which is probably possible if all you use is the phone), but I think the reality is that 5-6 hours of usage is the norm. If your getting less than that, drain your battery all the way (past the 10% signal, it will shut off on its own), than do a full recharge. If you dont end up back in the 5-6 hours of usage timeframe, take your phone back.
Listed below are apples tech specs:
Talk time: Up to 8 hours2
Standby time: Up to 250 hours3
Internet use: Up to 6 hours4
Video playback: Up to 7 hours5
Audio playback: Up to 24 hours6

  • Zen Xtra battery 'confusi

Alright, I've been through the board and everyone seems to agree that you should fully discharge your battery 3 times for 'optimal' battery life. But my question is this, It states that you should connect your Zen Xtra to the a/c cord when transfering files from my computer. So how does this help in discharging the battery? Talk about confusing!

wulfie, it is a good idea to have the AC plugged in while transferring files from a PC to your Zen. This is because you do not want the transfer interrupted by the battery running low and the Zen shutting down unexpectedly. This could cause fragmented files, or even worse.
Plugging the Zen in during file transfers is unrelated to charging the battery, just good practice. In reality, if you know you have a good charge and are not doing a huge file transfer it would work just fine to not have it plugged in to the AC.
So .. easy rule of thumb to avoid problems ... plug it in.

  • Nomad jukebox zen xtra - cannot create file w message when trying totransfer fi

My 30G nomad jukebox zen xtra was working great until recently. Now when I power my player up after a day of no use, it takes 0-5 minutes to rebuild the library. When I begin to transfer files using Media source after a few transfers I get the "unable to create file" message and can no longer transfer. I have tried disk clean up and re-booting to no avail. I tried installing the new firmware and this worked for about 80 songs and then I began getting the same problems. I have completely cleaned my PC of adware and spyware and this has no effect. I love my player but am becoming a little frustrated. Would anyone have any ideas? This all started when I turned on my player one day and all of the music was gone. I re-transfereed everything back and later noticed that I had two of everything. I deleted all of the duplicates and from that point on it began to take 5 minutes to rebuild the library but I could still transfer files with no problems. One last thing, when I run disk cleanup in rescue mode, once it gets to 99% done it stalls there for about 0-5 minutes before going back to the rescue mode menu.

i experienced the same problem. until 2 weks ago it worked fine. but a visited the support site and found out that all the software was new. so i downloaded the new versions. even the new firmware with the e at the end. i was at the edge to smash my monitor when i found out that after the firmware update the sound was hearing so quiet. after rebuil os and searching 2 hour on the net for the previous firmware release, prior to E release, i solve the sound problem.
but another appeard. cannot copy files on the player. if i choose to delete them, they disappear. i turn off the zen nx, turn back on and the files were still there. practically all the copy/delete/new folder/paste function were blocked. and the same problem on WIN XP and win 2000. all this because i installed the new versions for nomad explorer, nomad mediacenter, nomad plugin for media center.
solution: uninstalled all the creative software. put the original cd in the dri've. installed all the original software. it was running perfect. so, i could operate again in the data files on the player.
so i thought it was the driver problem since the media library i could access just fine. so i kept the original driver but installed all the new software (mediasource, nomad explorer, nomad zen plugin for mediasource).
guess what? the accesing proble appeard again. i think that the better solution is to stick to the original software.
and one last find. after the E firmware adveture, i experince what other are and was praing not to happen to me. the battery is lasting much much short period. and the green light if you look carefully is fluctuating in intensity. this was not happening until i burn the new E firmware. .0.02e. now after the rebuild os and writng a firmware it displays .0.02 without the E. the sound is like before. 24 damages your ears but the battery problem stills persit. it driving me crazy.

  • Zen Xtra 60 GB: battery goes down too quickly, even when inact

Hello, folks, this is my problem with Zen Xtra 60 GB, which I own for more than a year. A week ago I suddenly noticed that the battery is completely down the other morning, after I played music last night for a few hours on AC. So I plugged it to AC again and - differently from the other people's experiences - it started operating and charging. And I could play the music while charging, and manage the tracks with Nomad Explorer as well. After it charged completely, I unplugged it from AC, played a few more tracks and then shut it down. Next morning battery was down again. So I kept experimenting a few days in a row: charged it completely, played a few tracks, shut it down... and next morning all from the beginning again. I also tried continuous playing on battery, after it was fully charged - the playing time is also decreased.
I guess, my battery is damaged (or some settings on my player are wrong? - which seems unlikely to me). So how can I get the battery replacement? Or can I use some other type of battery? If so, what should I know when choosing the other battery?
    Many thanks,
    jetlag

SSR, your advice was helpful - I was able to access rescue mode. Before that, I thought of this operation as of "press C while holding Ctrl..." - I always released play/stop button after sticking the reset button, but still too quickly, and then player started in normal mode. It appears, that one should not release play/stop still for a few seconds - until the rescue menu appears. Maybe it would be good to emphasize this moment (not releasing too quickly play/stop after sticking reset) in Catherina's instructions about accessing rescue mode?
But this did not solve my problem!
I charged the battery fully, upgraded the firmware to the latest, and did cleanup. The player rebuilt my library. I played two tracks and turned the player off. After 2 hours, turned it on - battery was drained off again.
Then I charged the battery again, removed the battery and put aside. After 24 hours reseated battery, turned the player on - the battery proudly showed all three bars! Then played one track and turned the player off, and after 3 hours turned on. The battery remained with one bar only. And after 8 hours, it was, of course, empty...
So oh, what can I do? My player is more than one year, so out of warranty. And have no idea, who could repair it here in Lithuania, anyway.
Should I buy Xtra with 30 Gb (cheapest option), and then do harddisc transplantation, to save my 35 Gb of music? (Don't tell me about backups - almost all my music is also on CDs, or on my PC - it just was too long and tedious process, to upload all that to the player, and then rename and organize tracks there...)

  • What is average battery life everyone is getting for the Zen Mic

I just got my Zen Micro last Thursday. I'm concern about the battery life. I haven't fully tested the battery yet, but I'm estimating that I will only get about 6-7 hours for it. The advertised time was suppose to be as much as 2 hours. Now I know that depends on your usage (e.g. volume, bitrate of the file, play mode, etc.). What are other people getting? Thanks.

My last test, I tried to be as natural as possible. That is: back light is on; shuffle mode is on; eq is on; volume is normal (at 4 to 6); I skip or go back to tracks; I fast foward; the contrast is at 50 percent; average bitrate (from 28 to 360); smart sound off; and other minor things that I can't remember. That test gave me only 7.5 hours.
I think that is pretty modest usage. Any average mp3 user would do the same thing. Yet, I only got 7.5 out of the possible 2. I don't like the sounds of that.
I'm running another test right now with the same conditions above, and I'll let you guys know what I get.

ok, I will tkae that under consideration. Now I have another battery issue, after fully charging the MP3 player I noticed that the battery life drain rather quickly while it is off. I lost 9% of it's charge from taking it off the charger at midnight and then plugging it into the usb port of my computer the next morning at 10:00am. The clock is turned off so it should not be doing anything for those 0 hours.

  • Zen xtra 30gb battery issue and question about headpho

frist thing is that my zen xtra 30gb is having a minor problem concerning its battery. when i charge it, the meter doesnt fill up, however when i unplug it, the correct amout on the power meter is there. what can i do about this.
second, im supposed to be getting the sony fontopia ex7 within the next few weeks, what would be the best recommendation for eq settings.
if anyone can help, it would be gladly appreciated.

Whenever you get strange behaviour run a disk cleanup. To run a Disk Cleanup you need to access the Rescue Mode. To access the Rescue Mode hold down the play button and KEEP it held down, press the tiny reset switch once, and KEEP the play button held down until the player boots into the Rescue Mode. Choose Disk Cleanup from the menu. Note: Disk cleanup should not remove your tracks. It searches through the disk for files and rebuilds the index, and can be useful for correcting any strange behaviour.
If that doesn't help, you might also want to download and install the latest firmware update from Nomadworld.com downloads. Make sure to follow the instructions on the download page about how to upgrade.
If that doesn't help, then flatten the battery through normal use and recharge it fully before using it again (a full recharge takes at most about 4 hours). Do this a couple of times. Sometimes the indicators get "uneducated" and this is supposed to re-educate them.

  • Type of charger has effect on battery life?

It seems that my battery has WAY more life when I charge it using the iPhone dock/USB wall plug that came with the phone...instead of other, third-party chargers.
I noticed that, when I put the iPhone in my iHome clock radio to charge overnight, the battery seems to fully charge, but power lasts barely a day with light usage. Same when using my non-apple iPod car charger.
Using the apple charger I was able to use my phone all weekend and barely drained half the battery.
Could this just be the battery coming into its own after several charge/deplete cycles...or does the type of charger make a difference? Are all fully-charged symbols created equal???

The type of charger should not make a difference to the battery capacity. It might be in your charge discharge cycles, you some how calibrated the battery, but as long as the charger supplies the correct voltage and the minimun current, it won't affect battery life at all.
