File types don't save properly in CS6

Why? and what is Adobe doing to fix. I have read some long workarounds that are ridiculous. Photoshop has alwaysnever had issues with pointing to plugins, or old plugins moving to the new software. This is clearly a failure on their end. Photoshop USES plugins, this is snothing new. It should not be some surprise to Adobe. Will threre be a fix, or do we all have to go do Adobe's job for them?

The fact that I could do this on ANY other version was a simple mistake? In reality I should have seen this problem throughout all Photosop versions to date and only CS6 deals with plugins correctly? I don't buy it. I have use Photoshop since the first version. I have pointed to previous folders of plugins since it has been avaialble wiht NO problems. It has only occured on this build, which means it is a mistake that Adobe has made and doesn't want to correct (unless you ARE telling me that it never should have worked and was a fluke for many many years).
I understand at some point it is incumbent on me to go back and redo MY setup rather than you guys fixing a known issue that affects many people (again pointing to the fact that it had worked for many just fine in previous versions). If I had a company where I saw many issues happening for my end users that had NEVER been a problem, I'd simply find a way to fix it on my end. That's what people pay for, not to have to redo their long time workflow (with an option in the preferencs to DO what they are doing with no warning that from here forward that might change)  becasue an issue arose that had never been prior to the current build. That's all I'm trying to say. It's not the users fault.
I've gotten used to saving files as a multi picture format to be a jpeg.

  • Shrink the List of File Types in the Save As List

How to I simplify the list of file types in the Save-As file type list? I use less than six file types. I have no need for most of these.
It would be nice to have my top 5 and then the ability to go off-menu if needed for others.
    Thanks,
    Drew

I was able to reduce the list of file types by changing some file extensions. In the following folder
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CC (64 Bit)\Required\Plug-Ins\File Formats
I inserted a tilda (~) into the file extension for these files:
    Cineon.~8bi
    Dicom.~8bi
    JPEG2000.~8bi
    PCX.~8bi
    Pixar.~8bi
    Radiance.~8bi
    U3D.~8bi
Adobe Photoshop CC has "File Formats" in 4 different places! Two each for the x86 and 64 bit versions.
Since I don't use the x86 version very much, there was no great desire to mess with those two folders.
I'd would also like to get rid of
    JPEG Stereo (*.JPS)
    Multi-Picture Format (*.MPO)
    Photoshop Raw (*.RAW)
Portable Bit Map (*.PBM, *.PGM, *.PPM...)
    I see "Camera Raw.8bi" in
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\CC\File Formats
    but renaming it didn't help.
For others who want to do this, and are concerned, just make a note of the file extensions you are changing so you know how to return to the way things were if you ever need to save as a file type that has been removed from your list.
You must relaunch Photoshop after making any file name changes to see the effects.
Any ideas on how to get rid of 4 more file types from my list?

  • File type changing during "Save As" - Help!

Good Morning!  I have a set of tif files converted from RAW that I'm resizing for an order for a client and every time I do a "Save As", the file gets changes to an extension of $CB, then Adobe and nothing else will recognize it.
    The history;
Converted RAW to Tif in Bridge CS3
Opened in PSCS3 extended - cropped to size - do the Save As, still shows the file as a Tif in file type - reopened the original to make another size and noticed that file I just created is not there.  No, I didn't save the file with the same name, thus Save As.
My normal file naming, I just add a designated letter at the end of my file name to indicate the finished size ie.. legion post 576_001D.tif (D = 8 x 10)  The original file would be    legion post 576_013.tif.  I did this on 3 different computers, using PS 7.01, CS2, CS3 and CS4, all the same results.
Also, I can view the original tif in Windows Picture and Fax Viewer - as I normally am able to, however, this new one comes up with the error and unrecognizable file.
Now I'm wondering did the RAW conversion did something.
Help, I need to get these off to my printing service!
    thanks,
    Jan

    Never mind!  Found the problem!
For some reason, there was a check on the “Hide Extensions for Known file Types”.
I had to Go to Tools – Folder Options – View and uncheck “Hide Extensions for Known file Types”.  Would have never guessed that one!
You know one of those places your always changing things in!!!!! NOT!
    Anyway, it works!

  • DNG file types don't show thumbnails or previews

I am having trouble with Adobe Bridge CS5 for Mac OSX.  Up until last week it was working fine.  I haven't made any changes to my computer or my camera or anything like that.  But now .DNG files won't show their thumbnail or preview.  I only see the icon for the file type in the thumbnail list, and then when I click on the thumbnail, I just see a bigger version of the file type icon in the preview window.  However, JPEGs show up just fine.
I've searched through this forum and tried:
    - Resetting the Workspace
    - Resetting Bridge to default (Opening it with the Option key pressed)
    - Purging the cache
    - Checking that Camera Raw is properly installed (I have 6.7)
    - Updating DNG Converter to 8.3
But no luck yet.  Is this a new issue or something?

What about your old DNG photos which used to display properly? Can you still see those okay?
Have you set the Compatibility preference in DNG Converter to Camera Raw 6.6 and later?
Can you confirm that you have only one copy of Camera Raw 6.7 installed, and no other versions in alternative File Formats folders?
You could also try ACR 6.7.1:

  • JDev 10.1.3 / addes File Types don't work

I added 2 new File Types in JDeveloper 10.1.3 (Preview) by selecting Tools - Preferences - File Types - Add:
    Extension File Type
    .hta HTML Source
    .ico GIF Image
When opening a .hta I see the code without syntax highlighting. The .ico image is displayed as hex code.
Is anyone familiar with this problem? How can I solve it?

Please zip me up a minimal 10.1.2.1 testcase that works correctly in 10.1.2.1 and fails when opening and running in 10.1.3 and I'll file a bug and have someone look into what's the cause.

    Hi NiCoder,
You have a numer of different options to get data from the DIAdem Data Portal to Excel:
    1)  Save to TDM or TDMS file and use the free TDM Excel Importer to load the data into Excel
    2)  Save to CSV file and use Excel's built-in ASCII file import feature to load the data into Excel
    3)  Load the gfsexcel.dll GPI-DLL and use the "File >> Save as..." option to export an *.xls data file
    4)  Use a custom VBScript to automate any of the above 3 options
    5)  Use a custom VBScript to directly send each Data Portal data channel to a column of values in Excel via ActiveX
Options 1) and 2) are easiest if you want a purely interactive solution.  Option 1) will export all the data values as well as all the properties.  Option 2) will export all the data values and the name of each channel in the Data Portal, but none of the other properties.  If you choose to use option 3), know ahead of time that this feature is limited to 255 columns and will not export any custom properties, just the properties that existed back in DIAdem 8.1.  Option 4) can add in all the custom properties that are missing in option 2).  Option 5) can export all the data and all custom properties, but it is also the slowest option and involves the most programming.
Let me know what sounds best to you,

  • File Type Associations Do Not Stick System-Wide CS4

When I set File Type Associations for PSD, Tiff, DNG and Jpeg fles in Bridge CS4 so that my files will open in PS CS3 (and insure that the same file associations apply in Bridge CS3), this works as it should from within CS4 and CS3, but it is impossible to introduce a system-wide change in Mac OS 10.5.5 via File-Info. It always reverts to CS4 for these file types, if I try to 'modify all'. The same thing happened when I upgraded from CS2 to CS3.

If File Type Associations are set properly in the Bridge preferences, the default setting can be made to open files in PS CS3, with CS4 installed. This works from within CS3 and CS4. However, it sometimes happens that one is in the Finder, and the default remains PS CS4, however much one tries (via File-Get Info) to modify the default system-wide settings so that these files open in CS3. In any event, a bit invasive. Of course, if I could get comfortable with the Adjustment Layer Panels, all this would be unnecessary, but for the moment, there appear to be too many clicks, and it is going to take some time, so I don't want to burn bridges. Perhaps there is also some ambiguity in my mind as to what the pointing finger in the new Curves dialogue box, much like a tolling bell, is trying to tell me.
But thanks, once again Anne, for your good-natured help.

  • Help with file type

In Adobe Camera Raw, is there a way to select the file type that you save your image in. It seems .dng or DMG are the onle file types, or am I missing something. I would like to save my orginal CR2 file and save a copy in jpeg for others to open. Please help.

NO.  Don't click on Save Image Button.  Instead go to:
    File >> Save as
You'll get a dialog like this one:
You need to click on the arrow shown in the red box to select the various file types.

  • File type = MCDB

when I bought my mac, I has some hard drives from a pc with lots of file on them. Some files were an entire sound effects database (cant recall what they were on PC but they worked)
the drives had to be reformatted, then the file reinstalled but somehow all those files now look like this...
    filename.wav.mcdb OR
    mp3.mcdb
    etc.
I tried removing the extension. the icon changes to an MP3 icon and it wants to open with ITunes but ITunes cant open it.
Also tried to open with Soundtrack Pro - dragged and dropped as well but nothing is working.
any idea how to restore the files?

  • File type desociation

I need help on the way to desociate .part files from the emule icons.
I installed emule at some point then removed it.
Now the .part files from Firefox will show the emule icon.
Everything works well, despite I'm curious in knowing if this icon showing can be reverted like before the emule installation. Or did I remove the emule "completely clean"?

  • 'Movies' file type clarity?

    I have a 5G iPod. I have an TV.
I want the optimal video conversion for my TV, and may also make additional optimised conversions for the iPod.
They all just sit in 'Movies' in iTunes. Other than a naming convention - tedious & time consuming - is there any way to separate the file types and clarify their intended destinations/ utilisations?

  • File save as type showing as GIF in Photoshop  CS6

I have a problem/bug. When  I save for the web, select my file type ( png, wbmp, jpeg) it displays the file type as a Gif in the lower left eventhough the file saves in the correct format.  This is the version from the cloud download. Every file type displays this way?
    How can this be fixed?

The original file must be Gif or you have some slices.
On the top of the Save for web dialog press the Two Up button and the orginal will be on the left and the version to save will be on the right.
Could you post a bigger screenshot as it's to tell from the small size you posted?

  • Is there a way to save a form, once filled out, as a different file type in Reader?

I have Acrobat, my coworkers only have Reader. Company won't purchase Acrobat for the other employees.
I built a form for my coworkers to fill out. We need them to be able to send the filled out form to clients, but we don't want the clients to be able to edit the forms.
I understand people with only Reader can't flatten the document, or add a password, or save it as non editable. As I understand it, even with Acrobat I can't assign a password for Reader users to be able to edit or not edit a file (PLEASE correct me if I'm wrong on that one).
Is there any way to save the PDF form once it's been filled out (in Reader) as a different file type? Even an image? The file we send to clients doesn't have to be a PDF. Just something that most people can open.
I tried inserting the PDF into a word document (unreadably pixelated) and tried taking a snapshot of the entire page (resolution too low). I've tried downloading one of the free PDF writers and it apparently won't work with our network security (or something along those lines). I've tried using the pdf writer for Firefox on the form once it was filled out, and that won't work either because our network firewall seems to be blocking it and that's not something they are willing to take down.
    Any advice?

The signature WILL work! I've just looked into it more, thank you so much for pointing me in that direction.
I get it now, it locks the form fields in place after my coworker fills them in and signs it (as the very last step).
I wish I would have asked on here a full day ago. Would have saved a lot of headache and Googling.
    Thanks again.
