File with mask from photoshop placed in illustrator

Im having trouble placing an image from photoshop that has a transparent/foreground mask applied to it but when it is placed in illustrator the mask is not transparent and the full photoshop picture is visible. How do I take an image from photoshop with transparency around edges and have it show up looking the same in illustrator? Is this possible?

What file format is your photoshop file, .psd, .tif, & .pdf all support transparency.
Whatever you see in checkerboard pattern in photoshop should be transparent when placed in Illustrator. Did you use a layer mask as I have on Group 1 layer set.

If you are using Photoshop from within iPhoto the following may help with the workflow. However, we do need to know the answers to the questions posed by Terence and Larry to be able to help you.
Using Photoshop or Photoshop Elements as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop or Photoshop Elememts as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop. When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window
that indicates that PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file. You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
With Photoshop Elements the Saving File preferences should be configured as shown:
I also suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always. In PSE’s General preference pane set the Color Picker to Apple as shown:

Note 1: to switch between iPhoto and PS or PSE as the editor of choice Control (right)-click on the thumbnail and select either Edit in iPhoto or Edit in External Editor from the contextual menu. If you use iPhoto to edit more than PSE re-select iPhoto in the iPhoto General preference pane. Then iPhoto will be the default editor and you can use the contextual menu to select PSE for your editor when desired.
Note 2: editing a RAW file with either PSE or PS creates a new file which must be saved outside of iPhoto, i.e. the Desktop, and imported as a new photo into the iPhoto Library.

Preserving Transparency from Photoshop CS3 to Illustrator CS3

Hello all,
I'm trying to figure out how to preserve an image's transparency between Photoshop and Illustrator. Both apps are CS3.
In the broader design context, I'm trying to move an isolated wine bottle from Photoshop into an Illustrator document. I'd like the neck of the bottle to overhang a series of dotted lines in the Illustrator document.
Any help would be much appreciated.

double-click the background layer, so that it becomes Layer 0, or whatever you want to name it. Background layers are not capable of transparency, so you have to make the layer into a non-background layer.
A more flexible way to do this; instead of *deleting* the area you want to be transparent, while the selection is active, click the "make layer mask" button at the bottom of the layers panel. This is non-destructive to your original image, and can easily be edited or tweaked in the future.
I highly recommend learning to use layer masks while you are learning to use layer transparency. I'll bet Doug would recommend this as well.

If I understand your question, you want to read pdfs on your iPad, not create or edit.
Drag pdf files to the iPad icon in Finder while connected to your computer via the USB cable.
They will show up in the iBooks application
(If you don't already have iBooks, it's a free download from the App Store.)
Once installed, there are two buttons at the top left of the Bookshelf.
One is Books, the other is Collections.
Tap Collections, and you'll see Books and PDFs.
Tap PDFs and you're there.

File displaying different from Photoshop to Illustrator

I have a simple chalkboard background I made in Photoshop and I'm importing into Illustrator. My issue is the file displays completely different from Photoshop to Illustrator. See image below.
I've had this happen to other files but this one is so incredibly different, I can't understand what's happening and I can't manage the design with it being this different. Any ideas?

Thanks again Monika. I can't figure this out. The color management is all synchronized among all my Adobe applications. Yes the file is in layers and when I view the JPG in Photoshop, it looks as it should. It's only when I bring it into Illustrator does it look like that. I opened up a new Illustrator doc and placed the same JPG (as well as dragged the PSD file directly from the Photoshop window into Illustrator) and it looks better and more like it should. My other doc was a new doc too so I'm not sure what happened. At any rate, I can't explain what happened and I'm just hoping it doesn't happen again.

Print materials from Photoshop instead of Illustrator

Hi all,
I occasionally have to print signage, and usually "design in Photoshop> import graphics into Illustrator> replace text in Illustrator> save as PDF".
I just designed a 300dpi effects heavy image, and am wondering about the ability to save from Photoshop without having to mess with Illustrator. I've seen mention of "exporting in vector format" and it is 300dpi.
= Is my work-flow the most efficient way to do it?
= Can I essentially save/export a PDF from Photoshop that will keep the text vector and print as it would if exported from Illustrator?
Your advice and input is greatly appreciated.

For the first question I think it is not efficient. For efficiency I would either 1) Use only Illustrator or 2) Use only Photoshop or 3) Do your design in Illustrator and import into Photoshop. The last option probably depends on the subject matter of the document, but still the output options from Photoshop are preferred by some over Illustrator.
Question 2: You can get high quality PDF output from Photoshop. Below is a small portion of a pdf file created by Photoshop and shown in Acrobat. It is being shown at 2400% magnification and shows 30 pt vector text and portions of two circles. The circle on the right is a simple pixel rendering and the circle on the left is a vector shape - the difference is evident.
If you work in Photoshop alone I would suggest starting with two pieces of information to create your initial working document - the number of pixels per inch (not printer dots/inch) you think you need and the size of the desired printed document - multiply them. If you wanted 500 pixels/inch and a 6" x 4" print then set your photoshop document to 3000 x 2000 pixels (minimum). Also, use vector elements in your document wherever possible.

Help. Not a photoshop guy but rather a genealogist. Many years ago downloaded a custom file info panel for photoshop which I used to enter meta text about the family photos I scanned. Currently using adobe creative cloud but cant figure out how to use panel or see most of my metatext last few version. Below is information about the panel. The Custom File Info Panel is used to capture metadata about a genealogy/family history photo that is privately held (that is, the photo is not in the possession of a library). The metadata property names on the File Info Panel are based on my interpretation of the recommended primary citation for a photograph (private possession) (annotated, with provenance) as described on page 95 of Elizabeth Shown Mill's "Evidence! Citation & Analysis for the Family Historian" and on my interpretation of recommended primary citation for an Electronic File (Image from Private Files - Annotated), Mills, "Citation!", page 81. I added a few more property names for location and date the photo was taken and keywords (to ID people by number rather than by name), the name of the person who provided the description, a surety for their description, and an informal description. Each field is discussed below.
2. DESCRIPTION OF EACH PROPERTY NAME
Date Scanned: This is the date the photo was scanned. Date is populated by Photoshop and is not editable.
Provider: The owner of the photo as of the date it was scanned. A researcher in a future generations will know who had the photo at a particular point in time.
Provenance: Describe as best you can how the photo got from the person in the photo to the Provider.
Description Provided By: List the person who identified the people and location in the image.
Description Surety: (This is an open text field. You can use any surety rating system you want.) Describe or rate the quality of the Description of the image's people and location. Note any uncertainties regarding any particular people in the photo.
Complete Subject Description: List the full name of each individual in the image, in order. You may want to list the location and date of the image even though there are separate property names for that data.
Informal Subject Description: An optional non-genealogical description of the image, perhaps for using the photo outside of genealogy. Example Informal Subject Description: "Grandpa as a young man."
Media Description: Describe the paper photo you scanned. Dimensions, border, frame, damage, etc. Your ancestors will have an easier time finding the paper photo later if you describe it well!
Annotations: Copy any annotations on the front or back of the photo and frame. Transcribe any photographer embossing/imprint; this is a clue for dating/locating photos.
Special Editing/Alterations: Describe any restoration you performed on the digital image. Did you correct for the lateral reverse of a tintype or daguerreotype?
City/County: List the City/County where the image was taken.
State: List the State where the image was taken.
Country: List the County where the image was taken.
Photo Date: List the date the image was taken.
Keywords: This is the standard keyword entry. Commas or semicolons can be used to separate keywords. I type the TMG ID number of each person in the photo here so I can search for all photos of the person without typing their name.

I don't know if this approach has drawbacks.

I have tested this panel with Photoshop CS2 and Adobe Bridge CS2 only. It may not work on earlier versions. FWIW a malformed Custom File Info Panel will fail to load in File Info; it won't crash Photoshop.

Each time an Adobe application opens the File Info dialog, it scans all the files in these directories and appends them to the file list. If more than one of the description files has
the same panel name, the one found in the last file to be loaded is added, and others are ignored.
Changes to the contents of the directories do not require you to reload an application; changes are automatically reflected in the dialog the next time it is opened.

You are not going to be able to run your old system from the backup on this old computer as the hardware is incompatible.
You need to get a new computer or a refurbished one.

Preview has taken over RAW file type binding from Photoshop

Preview v 3.0.4 has taken over as the default program with which to open RAW files. Double-clicking a RAW file in OS 10.3.9 or earlier (?) used to automatically open RAW files into the latest Photoshop version installed (be it 7, CS, CS2).
After purchasing a new Dual 2.7 G5 with Tiger 10.4 or 10.4.4, ALLL RAW ICNS have changed to a PREVIEW.app's icon for RAW images, and RAW files now default to Preview when double-clicked, instead of the Photographer's choice of Photoshop, as it has been for years.
These and other file type bindings (PDF) have been captured by Preview in the new OS.
What is going on? What to do? How do I regain the original file binding of RAW files to an intelligent and professional program (PHTOSHOP CSx), instead of this NEWBIE nearly unusable PREVIEW application?
Simply remove all PREVIEW resources? Then it's usefulness for browsing large numbers of images will be lost.
I simply want PREVIEW to leave my professional digital world alone and let me continue working efficiently.
Any help? Ideas?

Simply select one of your crw files, do GetInfo (command-i) on the file and in the Open With section choose Photoshop. Click the Apply to All button. From now on all crw files will open in Photoshop. I suspect the default changed because Preview can now open many many raw files, and not everyone has Photoshop.

File size doubles from Photoshop CS 5.0/5.1 to CS6

Hi there,
if this has been covered already I´m sorry, but anyway...
Working on a iMac27 with 12Gb Ram. Recently upgraded Photoshop from CS5.0 to 5.1, then shortly thereafter to CS6. What I noticed is that the file size of opened files with layers roughly doubles from CS 5.0/5.1 to 6.0. Everything seems to stay the same with a single-layer file, but not with files with several layers. Opening and saving files seems to have slowed down somewhat, but not drastically, but having a file with fomerly 1,5Gb suddenly increasing to 3,4Gb size is somewhat problematic because of limited Ram, because it effectively limits the amount of layers I can pack into one image file.
Any input is greatly appreciated!

Yes - I saved a copy from the original file and reduced to 8bit. Slightly less when opened, but not substantially (from 1,51 Gb to 1,3Gb).
did you add the plugin to disable flate compression?
No, I wasn´t familiar with this plug in, but doesn´t it say that the file wize wil increase, but saving will be faster? Not sure if it would adress this problem at all.
Another possible cause would be the compatibility checkbox when you save.
I tried that (= unclicking the compatibility check box), and the file when unopened on the desktop was much smaller (down to 60Mb from 240Mb). However when opened it was still the same issue.
Are the settings in the infobar the same?
Not sure if I understand what you mean.... In the opened file, or getting info on the file on the desktop?
The filesize is the uncompressed one.
At the bottom of the image window it gives me 2 numbers: The left one is much smaller (163Mb), the right one is roughly 1,5Gb. Just opened again in PS CS 5.1: Left one is the same, the right one says 633Mb (16-bit file). So CS6 actually makes roughly 2,5 times the file size out of it.
Did you check on the hard drive if the file size changes?
Just did, the file size remians the same.
Kinda surprised that no one else seems to have encounterd this problem. I recall Chris Cox having made a comment about overall sluggishness of CS6 when opening and saving, and he remarked that it´s the "well known" layer management issue in CS6. Not sure if this somehow relates also to my problem.

Save file with script (skip warning 'modified outside Illustrator')

We all know that command:
app.activeDocument.save();
saves the document skipping all the dialogs and even alert that is popping out every time when you manually saving your file on a server:
My issue is that I am working on PDF files (with preserved Illustrator editing capabilities) almost all the time rather than .ai files, and everytime I use
app.activeDocument.save();
The .ai file is created.
My question is if it's possible to save PDF that you're working on same as you would manually 'Save' from the menu context, ommiting that annoying dialog about modified file?

You should be able to "SaveAs", specifying the PDF as the type and choosing to not invoke the dialog box.

Deploy par files with code from NWDI

Hello Experts,
I have migrated some par files to NWDI and they are deployed via SDM as SDA files.
From eclipse it is possible to deploy the par files with Code. Is this possible from NWDI that the par files are deployed with code to the portal server.

I am using NWDS, and then check in the Portal DC which is then deployed on the runtime system.
My question is during deployment via NWDI is it possible that the par is deployed with code.
Earlier we were using eclipse for par based development, and this was possible in eclips.
With NWDI i dont think it is possible to control if the par should be deployed on the portal server with code included.

Create xml file with values from context

Hi experts!
I am trying to implement a WD application that will have some input fields, the value of those input fields will be used to create an xml file with a certain format and then sent to a certain application.
Apart from this i want to read an xml file back from the application and then fill some other context nodes with values from the xml file.
Is there any standard used code to do this??
If not how can i do this???

you need to create three util class for that:-
XMLHandler
XMLParser
XMLBuilder
for example in my XML two tag item will be there e.g. Title and Organizer,and from ur WebDynpro view you need to pass value for the XML tag.
And u need to call buildXML()function of builder class to generate XML, in that i have passed bean object to get the values of tags. you need to set the value in bean from the view ui context.

Can't open PDF-Files with the 64Bit Photoshop-Version but with 32Bit Version

Hello,
our company use Photoshop in combination with PDF-Files. Normally we can open every of our PDFs with Photoshop.
But now we have some PDFs that we can't open with the 64Bit version. If we try it the application crashes.
But we are able to open the same files with the 32Bit version of Photoshop. We assume a bug in the 64Bit Version.
Please contact me to get the a PDF-Sample-File because i am not allowed to append the file to a public space.
