FileMaker Pro 11 Conflict with OS Lion

I installed FMP 11 my iMac (2.93 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo) when I had OS Snow Leopard.  I created a FMP 11 database file that was totally functional.  I have since installed Lion.  Now, I am unable to open the file.  The file now requires an account name and password.  I do not recall ever requiring a password or limiting access priviledges when I created the file.  I have entered my account name (as it appears on the credits while opening FMP) and just about every password I've ever used.  Same message:  "The account and password you entered cannot be used to access this file.  Please try again."  I tried resetting access on the Get Info page.  Doesn't work.  I have gone to the FMP Forums and tried the solutions suggested there, including the "tried and tested" best solution offered, i.e. enter the username "Admin" and no password.   Nothing works.  FileMaker Support will charge me $45 an hour to troubleshoot, one hour minimum :-(.  I see there are a few Mac FMP masters out there so if anyone see this, please help.  This is a very critical financial database.  I have speen hours trying to open it and retrieve the data.  Any suggestions?  Should I just reinstall the software and start over?  Would this make it more or less likely I can access the file in question?  It's very frustrating so any help would be very much appreciated.  Thank you.  Rod

I apologize I didn't list ALL of the MANY fixes I've attempted, including the most likely, i.e. Admin, no pswd, assigning a new account, etc.  NONE of them worked.  I took the file to a Snow Leopard computer and installed FMP 11 there because all of this nonsense started AFTER I upgraded to Lion.  Even that didn't work.  I finally called FMP Support and convinced them this was an installation problem that should be covered free of charge (they wanted $45).  They finally agreed and although I was treated professionally, I was essentially told 1) We've never heard of this problem and 2) It's an Apple problem, not FileMaker.  I advised them to check the FMP forums and they would become enlightened about the problems this is causing.  I agreed, Apple/Lion is certainly at fault as well, but Apple says it is a software problem with FMP . . . so lots of finger pointing.  I am waiting for a FMP developer to call back . . . bottom line, there is nothing FMP can do once a password is lost.  You can buy software to figure out a lost password (very expensive I might add).  My diagnosis:  Lion is the culprit and assigned a userame and password to the file through the keychain process.  I DID FIND A FIX:  Using TimeMachine on my Mac, I went back on the external backup drive to the day before I installed Lion and restored the file . . . it worked and I can open and use it now on Lion.  So my diagnosis is correct . . . Lion corrupted the file by assigning a password I could not recover, although I exhausted every password I've ever used on this computer that could possibly be in the keychain.  Cost?  3 days of pain and suffering.  Do you think I should sue?  :-)  Good luck all.  Rod

does filemaker 9 work with mountain lion?

No, I didn't find your post helpful.
I'm well aware that FileMaker does not indicate compatibility between FileMaker Pro 9 and Mountain Lion. However, in my experience, "compatibility" is a somewhat ambiguous term -- lack of compatibility doesn't mean that FM Pro 9 won't run under ML. There may indeed be some feature in FM Pro 9 that won't work properly -- but that doesn't mean that the app as a whole is, for example, unusable.
As another example, I believe that Roxio lists that Toast Titanium 9 won't run under Mountain Lion, either, but it seems to run just fine for me ;-)
Hence my question: has anyone tried?

I have a brand new macbook pro 15" with latest Lion. Can anyone tell me why, when I open word or preview etc that multiple files open? For eg if I open a word doc, the last 1-3 docs that I have worked previously on all open. Can anyone tell me why?

You have a choice as to whether or not applications in Lion like Word or Preview (or even Safari) save and re-open previous documents or windows... just hold down the option key while quitting a program and when you re-open it you won't get the previous documents or windows when you re-open the application. You can see this by selecting the open program in the menu bar and when holding down the option key the quit function will change to quit and discard open windows. This feature in Lion is referred to as "Resume" and is great if you want to restart an app and return to what you're doing (for example in Safari re-opening existing windows and tabs from your previous session). You still have the option to close individual windows within an app before quitting and they will not re-open when the app is launched again.
This Resume function is not related to saving your work (a word or text document for example). This is handled by Lion's "Auto-Save" and "Versions" functions. See http://www.apple.com/ca/macosx/whats-new/auto-save.html
Hopefully this is the complete answer you're looking for.

  • Mac Book Pro Retina with Mt Lion.  Where is the Hard Drive?

Mac Book Pro Retina with Mt Lion.  Where is the Hard Drive?

Technically there is no "hard drive" in the Retina MacBook Pro, as all models come with "flash" storage which isnt a "hard disk drive." So if you are wondering why you are not hearing classic hard drive chatter and spin-up sounds then this is the reason.
Other than that, logically the devices are treated the same, so as Kappy mentions you just have to enable it on your desktop or go to your computer name in the Finder sidebar under "Devices" or otherwise go to the top level of the system's folder structure to reveal any mounted volumes, including the internal drive.

  • Is there a conflict with Mountain Lion and ATT air card?

Please follow these directions to delete the Mail "sandbox" folder.
    Back up all data.
Triple-click the line below to select it:
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
    Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A Finder window should open with a folder named "com.apple.mail" selected. If it does, move the selected folder — not just its contents — to the Desktop. Leave the Finder window open for now.
Quit and relaunch Mail, and test. If the problem is resolved, you may have to recreate some of your Mail settings. You can then delete the folder you moved and close the Finder window. If you still have the problem, quit Mail again and put the folder back where it was, overwriting the one that may have been created in its place. Post your results.
Caution: If you change any of the contents of the sandbox, but leave the folder itself in place, Mail may crash or not launch at all. Deleting the whole sandbox will cause it to be rebuilt automatically.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

  • Is my mac pro compatible with mountain lion?

Is my mac pro compatible with mountain lion/ 2 x 2.66 Ghz Dual core processors?
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
    William

And FBDIMMs which use to cost $300+ for 8GB can now be had for... 2 x $34.
    I paid $300 2 x 512MB August 2006,, then 2 x 1GB $400 March '07
So as long as you only need 16GB you are safe, it is when you need 4GB, or the rare 8GB FBDIMM and 32GB or more, that yes, time to part ways and get a system that supports cheaper DDR3.
Except, right now, 10.8.2 'broke' support for more than 64GB and there were people depending on and using 96GB.  Or that more than 48GB also 'broke' the Apple Pro RAID card; a card that still does not support 3TB drives. 10.8.2 does though provide support for more current Nvidia cards (10.7.4 also showed support just not for GTX 6xx series). 3rd party graphic support has always been a weakness, until now.
Apple Mac Pro is a workstation. Except when it is not. It is still not clear how they missed these things.
What 32-bit EFI won't get you is 64-bit kernel mode and abilty to fully use more powerful graphic cards or memory addresses for a single process beyond 4GB or graphic card support with more than 2GB (and 2GB use to always fail in OS X in the past).

  • Does mac book pro come with os lion

I know it may sound dumb but does the mac book pro come with os lion or do I need to purchase it? Tried looking in my system reference and it does not say and if i do have to buy it will I get the update when mountain lion comes out? Thanks for any info.

>about this mac.  If it says 10.7.x, you have Lion.  Can't answer questions about Mountain Lion as Apple has released very little details about it in terms of what you are asking.

I hope this is what you were requesting. I deleted out the UUID but as far as hang reports, wasn't sure what that would look like so I am sorry if that is included in this. Please let me know what you think.

  • Filemaker Pro 7 with Lion

I have just upgraded to Lion (from Snow Leopard) and to my horror discover that certain applications won't run with that operating system.   Most importantly, this includes Filemaker Pro 7, my database.  I urgently need access to that as I'm running a big charity event and need the 900+ contents in my database.
Ideally I would run in on Lion, but if I am persuaded to buy an expensive new version of Filemaker Pro or other database, will I be able to import the contents from my Filemaker Pro.    I am not a geek, so would gratefully appreciate any responses in a way I am likely to understand.  Thank you so much in anticipation.   The Little Pip

Thank you so much.  I was afraid that this would be the case.  But if I do invest in the latest version of Filemaker Pro (11), will I definitely be able to transfer all the formats and data from my old version (7)?  This is critical.  If I can't, I might find an alternative solution...
So, I will also have to buy new Microsoft Office for Mac. I do think they ought to warn one before one upgrades.
It's a lot of money - for some of us.
But thank you for your prompt response.

...am I missing something or why can't Spotlight find ANY entries in my Filemaker Pro databases? I have set no exclusion for indexing.

I just stumbled upon a mdimporter for OpenOffice but I had to look inside the package.
    app-package / contents / Library/Spotlight
    OOoSpotlightImporter.mdimporter
I double-clicked and first time in 8 yrs using OS X, asked if I wanted to add to Spotlight Plug-in, so I said "yes."
Does an app (OpenOffice in this case) add its mdimporter to Spotlight the first time it launches? No.
There was none in /Library/Spotlight and I've never known about this, or the need to find and add to Spotlight. And this was only the 2nd application I've added that includes an importer (URL Manager is old but had one).
+(I would love to exclude url and bookmark(s unchecked) it still finds bookmark - Safari reads the bookmark.plist and writes them into ~/Library/Caches/Metadata/Safari/+
More custom prefs and features in the control panel.
Search inside the folder I am in, which seems obvious.
Ability to add a folder to the search index, or to update.
I would like Spotlight if it was half as good as Vista's (also has a much more robust open/save but those aren't enough reasons to use Vista.
Don't start indexing a drive that I just formatted and backing up to (ask first, and wait until I/O and system is "quiet").
Searching for tech notes on or a www.apple.com/support/spotlight or /leopard/spotlight didn't bring up anything but "features" but nothing useful.
Do I need a developer's manual to get more from Spotlight?
Path Finder search/find but it has a problem with preventing quitting and with shutdown/restart so I can't leave it in the background. It searches 'everywhere' so it can't just depend on Spotlight's indexes.... can it?

  • Is their a conflict with Mountain Lion and e-mail responding on the macpro

IS THERE ISSUES WITH ACCESSING E-MAIL WITH MOUNTAIN LION ON MAC PRO'S WITH RECENT UPGRADES?  My e-mail is not responding and looks strange and I keep getting the Apple wheel spin.

  • Does the macbook pro come with mountain lion?

I have a MacBook7,1 and am thinking about upgrading to a Pro, however I woud like to know if a new Pro will come with Mountain Lion X installed or wether I'll have to purchase it??

Any new machine you buy will come with the OS Apple is currently shipping.
In the past if you bought a new machine close to the time a new OS was released Apple also would let you upgrade to the new OS for free.
