Filename and path sizes and characters

I am failing to load 4000+ tracks to my Ipod from my XP machine using Itunes 7.50.0.20. This is an Ipod Clickwheel 20GB. I want to load 17.86GB in the now empty Ipod. However it gets so far then stops saying there is not enough space.
I wonder if am I getting the wrong message?
Some of my tracks have very long filenames/paths e.g 124 charactere filenames and 213 character paths. I also have some filenames with " (double quote) in.
Could this be the reason?
If so what characters must I avoid and what size should the filename and paths be limited to?

Filenames and paths are irrelevant. They are renamed on the iPod anyway.
20 GB is not really 20. It is a rounded number all HD manufacturers use. Plus you lose some space due to formatting and the iPod software. There is also meta data for the songs which takes some space.

What print and paper sizes are you using? Are you trying to print a borderless print? Does your printer support borderless for that particular size? Are you printing to the custom stock size or to a larger stock size?

Listing File, path, sizes and dates

Hi all
Case: I have 6 machines on one network (some with 2 drives), another on another network (connected by vpn) and 3 external drives.
These all have accumulated stuff, some repeated as I've upgraded and re-purposed machines but left directories behind as a safeguard.
I need to rationalise the space and develop a more systematic approach to backup and archiving.
My first step is do an inventory of what's where and my natural approach is work with a data base of file name, path, size, created date and last modified to allow me to do some maths on archiving to dvd.
Using find as follows
find [Start Somewhere Directory] -print > [workspace path]/TestOutput.txt
gives me a nice list of file name I can parse out in a database
But I don't get size and dates.
Adding -ls produces that info but creates header lines for parent directories and adds permissions, node and other info I don't need.
I got to here
find [Start Somewhere Directory] -type df -exec ls -lshk {} \; -print > [workspace path]/TestOutput.txt
but still has the hierarchical output rather than flat paths.
Am I doing this all the hard way ? Is there a tool that returns just what I'm looking for ?
Or what command will allow me to take just the relevant columns form ls to the print parameter ?
Or can I extend find to add the size and date info to the output ?

I just so happened to have done something similar before!
It relies on mdls so isn't exactly speedy, but produces a full path, size, modification date, modification time, creation date and creation time as a comma separated list. mdls is not exactly predictable as to which order you get its output, so basically you have to try first without any editing.
Anyway, here it is:

You could also do it with AppleScript, since that can access the creation date easily.

Versions and Masters, size and trying to save space

I am looking at my Library and trying to get rid of duplicates - In a List view I see an image and then its Version2. The image master is 9.58 mb; the version is also. I thought versions were supposed to be just the tweaks of the masters and not themselves all that large? I'd like to delete the original and keep the version but know I can't do thatt; if you delete a Master it deletes a version so you can't convert the Version into a new Master
BUT - would this work - export the Versions - delete the Masters - reimport the Versions which then become Masters?
Of course the other option is to offload them all anyway but before going that route, I'm trying to come up with another idea. Or a better idea.

You can turn off auto preview generation for new projects, you can turn off "maintain previews" for existing or old projects, you can delete all of the previews and then just generate them for your rated images.
You can also take a some of your images either by project or by any other criteria and then use move masters to an external drive.

You should be more concerned of what's being used in temporary tablespace. As Oracle will reuse temp segment, free space in temp tablespace is not a good indicator.

Object Size and Position values not being retained

Hi,
I'm trying to set the size and position of a picture object in a report. This logo, should appear on the top right corner of the report.
The margins of the report are Left - .79 in, Right - 0.79 in, Top - 0.79 in and Bottom - 0.39 in.
The size of the picture object should be 1.574 x 0.79 inches.
I have ensured that File -> Page Setup -> dimensions are in INCHES.
I right click the logo and select 'Size and Position'.
I set 'Y' (distance between top of object and top margin) = 0. This is to perfectly align the object with the top margin.
Now, i set the height of the object = 0.79 inches. Ok the dialog and close.
The strange thing happening is, when i re-open the size and position dialog, i see that the values i set are not being retained.
0.79 becomes 0.810
and
0 become -0.010.
What am i doing wrong here? How can i make sure the values i specify in the size and position dialog are retained.

Ensure that "Snap to Grid" is turned off.
Make your grid size larger (.5 inches for example)
What is occurring (I suspect) is that your objects are snapping to the grid - thus changing the position and possibly size due to the Snap to Grid being turned on.

Why has the text and general size of page suddenly shrunk in size in websites and especially in retrieved email sites? Every retrieved page needs to be zoomed in on.

Without explanation every retrieved email site or online website appears on screen in minute font and picture size and needs to be zoomed in on to allow normal visibility.

Is there a fast way to change size and Res in multiple photos?

I have cs5 and am trying to change 70 to 100 photos from 4288x2848 300ppi psd, To 1000x664 at 72ppi jpeg quickly. Is there an easy way? If there is not a fast way to do it what is the best way to do it? Any help would be appreciated.

Yep it can be done in bridge.
First copy the files to another folder for protection.(just in case something went wrong)
Select all of the files then click the export tab (may need upgrading of bridge to see the tab, not sure)
Double click save to hard drive,
The Image options tab will let you change the size of the image. However it looks like the resizing is restrained only and does not offer a ppi setting.
Your other option is to use image processor.
First create an action that will change the ppi.
Now it just a matter of running image processor and tell it what folder has the images you want changed, what folder you want the new images at, The file type and file size, and finally the action you just created.
image processor can be run from photoshop (file>scripts>image processor) or bridge (tools>photoshop>image processor)
Whether or not ppi has to be change depends on what you are using the images for. Prints require it to set the print size, for the screen it is not required since the screen has no way of knowing how to use ppi.

Locking Chart Size and Position

I have a document that contains multiple workspaces with 2 charts on every page. I can scroll through each chart and the data changes when I do so. I have set width, lenth, and position sizes and once I set them and go through a few more, when I go back, the sizes and positions have changed/adjusted on their own to numbers I didn't set.
Why is this?
How can I lock size and position?

"Workspace" is not a Numbers term that I am familiar with. Do you mean "Sheet"? You say you are using Numbers for OSX, but what you are describing sounds like an iWork for iOS complaint.
Sorry, but I don't have enough information to go on to make a suggestion.

1. Right-click the field that you want to move conditionally, and select Size
and Position.
2. Click the Conditional Formula button next to the X position value field.
3. In the Formula Workshop, enter your conditional X position formula text.
For example, to move orders that were shipped late to a second column,
enter formula text such as this:
If (Orders.Ship Date) < CDateTime (2004, 01, 01, 02, 10,

Note: The number 4320 represents the new position that you want to
define as the second column. The position is measured in twips; there
are 1440 twips in an inch.
4. Click Save and close to return to your report.
5. Click OK to save your position setting.
Crystal Reports moves objects that meet your condition to a new position, but
leaves those objects that donu2019t meet the condition where you originally placed
them.

This error happens when I try to import into Dreamweaver. Sorry, I wasn't clear on that earlier.
I thought maybe it was because I had saved my image as a png. So re-saved as a svg, still get the error.
DO I have a setting is Dreamweaver CC that is wrong? Should I try this in Dreamweaver CS6? I might try that next.
Why is this program so difficult? I know Flash. I know After Effects. I can work the timeline part just great. It's always in the export that I have problems.

Trying to add filename and path in footer of Word doc and it only lets me "Convert to PDF"?

I am running MS Office 03 and just installed Acrobat 9.0 Pro. When I try to insert the Filename and Path from the insert option of the footer properties, it only gives me the option to "Convert to PDF". I don't know why it's doing this, but it started after the install of Acrobat 9.0. What should I do?

Programmatically change filename and path for PDFCreator

Hello,
I know that creating PDFs is a common question on the forum but I've yet to see someone with the same problem that I am encountering. I'm following the example at http://decibel.ni.com/content/docs/DOC-4552#comment-12005. I posted a question on this page but am posting again here for hopes of a faster response.
I am able to create a pdf of the test.txt file. However, I am unable to change the path or filename. No matter what I select the file is created with the name and path defined in the autosave options of PDFCreator. Since the file is created, I know that the reference is correct. It seems that the cOption invoke nodes are not working. If I turn on autosave in the PDFcreator options, I am prompted with a save as window. This means that my command to use auto-save (in the config subvi) is not working. Likely, the autosavedirectory and autosavefilename are also not doing anything.
I'm at a loss because everything appears to be correct. Any thoughts on what could be wrong? (labview 8.6.1 PDFCreator 0.9)

Hello,
Have you tried downloading the latest version of PDF Creator? It looks as though it is at 1.0.1 now. If this is a problem with the ActiveX interface, it may be resolved in the latest version.
