Filename lost when printing PS from InDesign CS6

We print PostScript to hotfolders in our ApogeeX prepress system. Previous versions of CS Indy would pick up the filename and add a .ps extension. In CS6 the first time I printed I had to type in the name and now every time I print another file it always reverts to that name rather than pick up the name of the current file. This is annoying because if an operator does not catch it then the PDF generated by ApogeeX replaces the file in the original job rather than create a new file. Is this a preference I can set? I've looked but I do not find anything.
Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.
Clark

I wish Adobe would just make preserving of current filenames the default already!
Anyway, here's what worked for me:
Quit InDesign.
Start up InDesign.
Create a new document and DO NOT save or name it.
Open the print dialogue box (ie: try to print your document). Select all your preferred print settings and then select “Save Preset” and name it.
Select “Print” and the original filename should be preserved in your Postscript file.
From now on when you select the Print Preset you just created, it should preserve the filename of the current document.
I hope this works for you too. Good luck!

  • Garbage text prints when printing documents from InDesign

    I am encountering an odd error when printing from InDesign 4.0.4 (CS2) to some HP printers (HP 4650 and 2430n). Some documents print just fine with no problems. But a couple of documents will either never print, or when they do print, they print a line or few of garbage text (black diamonds, smiley faces, etc.) per page, plus some blank pages, and it will run through tons of paper when it does this.
    I've found the following document which describes my problem pretty closely.
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/genericDocument? docname=c00028613&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&jumpid=regR1002USEN
    The problem is that I have set the Graphics to print as ASCII, and this problem still occurs. Could it be a problem with a particular EPS file printing or something? This document (with all of the included text, EPS images, etc) become fairly sizeable, such as 150 MB in size. The HP 4650 has 512 MB of memory, whereas the HP 2430 has 64 MB of memory.
    I printed this same problem document from another computer, with all of the same settings in InDesign, and it printed with no problems.
    Any idea on what is going on here?

    Hello Chad,
    Do you know if the two printers support PostScript? It sounds like they don't and therefore they will be using filters to convert the PS data from InDesign into a format that it understood by the printer. It will be in this conversion process that something will be going astray and that will cause the corrupted output. Try running a Repair Disk Permissions to see if this helps.
    I don't believe the amount of RAM will cause the problem, it should only impact the speed at which the document can be spooled from the Mac. However, if the error is only occuring from InDesign and when working with large files, then it may have something to do with it. But if the other PC is okay then it may rule out the RAM. What print language is the other PC using to print to the HP's?

  • Pictures lost when exporting pdf from Indesign.

    Hey
    I have a problem with exporting an Indesign CS4 document into pdf. In the pdf-file all pictures turn into grey boxes.
    All photos is cmyk and saved as eps-format.
    What is wrong?
    Hope someone can help.

    Subject line says you're *exporting* PDF. Are you exporting or printing to the Adobe PDF printer? Or do you mean that Acrobat is displaying perfectly good pictures as gray boxes (and you verified this by looking at the same PDF on a different machine)?
    In my Acrobat 7 (haven't installed 9 yet) I can turn off display of large pictures in Preferences > Page Display > Display large images. If this is unchecked, I can make at least some of my pictures display as gray boxes.

  • Cannot overwrite PDF when exporting to Acrobat from InDesign CS6

    When exporting to Acrobat Pro X from InDesign CS6, there are times when I want to overwrite an exising file but I get an error msg that the file is in use (it is not--this even happens when I have closed the file and quit Acrobat) or i don't have permission. In the Info panel at the Finder, i see that "myusername (ME)" does have permission to read and write this file. As a test, I also changed the permissions for Admin and Everyone to Read & Write, but that did not help. I've checked Preferences in both InDesign and Acrobat Pro anc can't find a relevant setting.
    To save the file with the same filename as the pre-exisitng PDF, I have to close the pre-exisitng PDF and move it to the trash.
    I have no problem overwriting a PDF document from Acrobat. This only happens when I am exporting from ID.
    I am on a Mac running the latest version of OSX.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!
    Carol Gunn

    Make sure that the PDF you are trying to overwrite is not selected in your finder. I've found that if it's selected in the finder then the preview tricks Indesign into thinking the file is busy

  • Having trouble exporting to pdf from InDesign CS6

    When I attempt to export to pdf from InDesign CS6, the application crashes. Apparently there is some phantom plug-in issue.
    I need to get this resolved asap.
    Thank you,
    Marissa

    Have a look at this generic document to help you troubleshoot: http://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/kb/troubleshoot-printing-pdf-export-indesign.html
    Could you also provide details about what you've tried, and what errors you encountered? Is this problem limited to a particular document, or all documents?

  • Too long export to PDF from Indesign CS6

    When I exporting PDF from InDesign CS6 takes too long. For example, a few minutes (5minutes). In InDesign CS3, which I used earlier, the file is exported immediately (few seconds). It is a problem in setting or higher hardware requirements?
    I use laptop 2GB dual processor, 8GB RAM, Windows Vista 32 bit. You have a similar experience?

    It is strange that CS6 supports Windows XP and Windows7 and Vista does not support. I use 8GB RAM because I bought a laptop so. There for me any solution, how to enable CS6 InDesign with the 32 bit system Windows Vista?

  • I am new to EPUB fomat and I am facing a lot of difficulties in exporting my work from InDesign CS6

    Hi..I am new to EPUB fomat and I am facing a lot of difficulties in exporting my work from InDesign CS6. The problem is that I have got a financial report of about 100pages to export as EPUB, with lots of graphs etc..and when I export it, to EPUB 2.0, the following happens:
    1. The image quality is quite low (even if the original images are of high quality, and during export, i put the image to max quality)
    2. The graphs do not appear where they should be! All the imags in fact appear after the long paragraphs of text..meaning everything appear quite messy and in an unordered manner.
    I have read that images should be anchored, and doing so, the result is quite better, but still, some images appear at the end of the text!!d
    That is, the end result, in terms of pagination and graphics, is no way like it should have been, compared to the indesign file (page 5 is displayed after page 10, image on page 4 appears on page 9 etc..)
    PLEASE HELP..
    P.S :
    I am using Adobe digital edition to view my EPUB..I have also tried CALIBRE and SIGIL!! But I am not too sharp in eiting CSS codes etc...

    Hi Akshay,
    If you want your images to appear standalone with no other page item on the page, then you can insert Page break on an image.
    This is how you can specify a page break:
    1. Select the image
    2. Goto Object->Object Export Options
    3. Select EPUB and HTML tab
    4. Select Custom Layout check box and then check Insert Page break. You can select from the option in the dropdown-Before Image, After Image, Before and After Image as per your requirement.
    Regarding your question about images:
    You export your graphs as JPEG but are those JPEGs of good resolution? If they are, then InDesign is doing something wrong during export but if the JPEGs are not of good quality then it is not an export issue. Please provide some more details here.
    Regards,
    Pooja

  • Why won't Acrobat X Pro honor the margin (art box) from PDF's exported from InDesign CS6?

    Why won't Acrobat X Pro honor the margin (art box) from PDF's exported from InDesign CS6?
    When I export a PDF from InDesign CS6 with specific margins, Acrobat does not recognize the Art box. (I have PitStop Pro 11 for page box view)

    Thanks Steve,
    We are exporting PDF's as you indicate. I see the same thing. The boxes are all the size of the original InDesign document. The PDF art box should be predicated by the margins in InDesign. When we had CS3, this worked great. Now, it seems that there is a disconnect between the two Adobe products honoring the page box size. I have contacted the Adobe techs via chat, and they had no clue what I was referring to. I find it mystifying that Acrobat can not interpret the art box set in InDesign as margins.

  • AI images not printing correctly from InDesign

    (Reposting from Color Management Forum)
    First off, please forgive me if this is  not the right forum or if I am not using the right terms.  I am the network admin for our company and I'm posting this on behalf of our designer.
    We recently added PostScript drivers to our Sharp printers, and we have been seeing odd printing results when printing embedded .AI files.
    We use CreativeSuite CS5, and our developer has hundreds of images with pure white and transparent backgrounds stored in .AI format.  When these images are embedded/linked to an Indesign document they print with a solid black background and what appears to be an inverted color pattern, almost like a photo negative.
    All embedded EPS images print fine.  The affected .AI files print fine when printed directly from Illustrator.
    The embedded images print fine using a PCL driver.  We are trying to implement the Postscript driver for better color quality.
    Any ideas?
    (We are using Windows XP SP3, x86
    Server based network printing on Windows 2003 x86)
    Thanks in advance
    Matt

    Unfortunately, no we are still dealing with it.  Like you, I have found very little on this anywhere else.
    Sharp has been very helpful, trying to see if it is something in the PS drivers, but to no avail.  I'm pretty confident that there is nothing wrong with the PS drivers since everything else prints just fine.
    So far, our designer is either converting images to EPS documents or converting the InDesign file to PDF before printing.  Frustrating and time consuming are an understatement, but it is getting the job done.
    If you do find something, please post back here! I'll do the same.

  • How to disable some color when printing separations in Ai CS6-CC (JS)

    Hello Everyone!
    Configuration: Win 7 Pro x64, Illustrator CS6x64-CCx64, default printer PDF.
    When printing separations from Illustrator CS4 following script prints all colors except Cyan (as was intended).
    But when printing from CS6-SS disable the color is not possible - all colors are printed without exception.
    var adoc = activeDocument;
    var o = new PrintOptions();
    o.colorSeparationOptions = new PrintColorSeparationOptions();
    o.colorSeparationOptions.colorSeparationMode = PrintColorSeparationMode.HOSTBASEDSEPARATION;
    o.colorSeparationOptions.inkList = adoc.inkList;
    for (var i = 0; i < o.colorSeparationOptions.inkList.length; i++) {
    if (o.colorSeparationOptions.inkList[i].name == 'Process Cyan') {
      o.colorSeparationOptions.inkList[i].inkInfo.printingStatus = InkPrintStatus.DISABLEINK;
    adoc.print(o);
    If you check, you have inkInfo.printingStatus Cyan changed to "InkPrintStatus.DISABLEINK".
    Why it is printed and how to disable?
    Thanks!

  • Transferred CS4 to new MacBook Pro, now some fonts will not work when PDFing documents from InDesign CS4. Help!

    I recently purchased a new MacBook Pro. I transferred my CS4 from my older MacBook Pro to my new computer, and although it seemed to be working fine now some fonts will not work when PDFing documents from InDesign CS4. These fonts are installed on my new computer, can be found in InDesign CS4, and work fine within the program but will not appear in PDFs. The letters turn into rectangles. Does anyone know why, and how to fix that?
    Help/input would be much appreciated. Thank you!
    Kristen.

    you should properly install adobe products, not move, migrate or otherwise transfer them.

  • Is there any way to print directly from InDesign CS3 to Mavericks 10.9.4?

    Are there any fixes or workarounds that allow me to print directly from InDesign CS3 to Mavericks 10.9.4. Everything I try now causes InDesign to freeze if I attempt to print. The only way is to export the file as a PDF. Thank you.

    You shouldn’t be having a problem like that. I’m going to move this to the InDesign forum but it would help if you posted more details on the issues you’re having.
    Another thing to try is exporting to INX from CS3 and opening the INX in CS5.5

  • Windows Explorer hangs when I switch from InDesign CC to my desktop. Also weird mouse behavior.

    I am using a brand new computer running Windows 7 64-bit.
    I am also using Adobe CC for the first time. Downloaded InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, and Acrobat last week, and I'm using mostly InDesign so far.
    My issue: When I switch from InDesign to, say, check my Outlook in box, sometimes I can't click on anything at all, including "Show Desktop." I am only able to get functionality back by doing a Ctrl-Alt-Del and then cancelling the Task Manager when it appears. Then the mouse forgets that I mouse left-handed, for a few seconds. After that, everything works right.
    Anyone else see this issue?
    System specs:
    Processor: AMD FX 8350 8-core 4.00 GHz
    RAM 8 MB
    Windows 7 Professional SP1
    64-bit OS
    Dedicated graphics card with 1 GB memory

    RT does work, but the exact same description as the original post is what I observe.
    Specifically:
    0. using Surface (original) RT
    1. added RWW site to Compatibility Mode
    2. added RWW to trusted sites
    3. installed self-signed cert
    then can:
    a. log into RWW
    b. connect to server desktop - choose server
    c. get IE 32-bit only error - click ok
    d. get prompted for connection settings
    e. get vbscript error
    f. back at connect to server desktop screen - choose server again
    g. get IE 32-bit only error - click OK
    h. get prompted for connection settings
    i. get username/password/domain login screen
    j. successfully login
    I was glad to find this post, because I just figured it didn't work the first time I tried it, and never tried twice in a row.  Nice to know I can use my Surface to remote in using RWW when needed.

  • Hi, Might I know that how to setup the printer setting at InDesign CS6 for the Lable print?

    Hi, Might I know that how to setup the printer setting at InDesign CS6 for the Lable print?

    Label printing isn't something you set up in the print dialog in ID. If your print driver has an n-up feature that might work, but in general you need to create pages of labels to fit your sheets in ID, then print. If you are talking about doing a merge of an address list, read about Data Merge in thehelp files.

  • Print booklets from InDesign.

    I used to create print booklets from InDesign but this option disappeared with version CS5. Is Adobe doing anything about restoring this feature? What are my options in the meantime?

    Are you patched to 5.0.4?
    I run XP SP2, rather than 3, and Acrobat 9 pro (now at version 9.3.2) and I haven't had a problem using Print Booklet to make a PDF, so I suspect either it's something in SP3, or more likely a problem on the system.
    First thing might be to try replacing your preferences. See Replace Your Preferences
    Next might be to unistall the PDF printer and reinstall it (does it work outside of Print Booklet?). Make sure you update Acrobat first, if you haven't already done so.
    If neither of those works, see if there's anything else running in the background that could be causing a problem.
    Finally, if nothing is working, it's time to look at a scripted solution. I know two scripts, both by Dave Saunders, that can handle simple two-up saddle stitch impositions without creep. One is better than the other if you have objects crossing the spine, but neither is as sophiticated in what it can do as Print Booklet, which can handle perfect binding with various signature sizes.
