Filename overwritten

Working on a giant file. Saved. Opened new window started inputting data. Did a Save as and stupidly typed in the name of the giant file. Saved.
Can I retrieve the original?

You would have to buy a utility like Data Rescue II and unless you stopped using the Mac right away, the chances of getting the file go way down.
You MIGHT be able to, but I can't offer anything you can do free of cost.
Just as an FYI, I've read good things about the above software, but when I recently bought/used it, I was disappointed in the results.
Good luck,
Scott

    Stop using your computer immediately and high thee to a professional data-recovery specialist!
    Most likely the data in the giant file is still present, and only the directory entry and sector-in-use map have been changed; but (a) the more you use your computer after such an event, the more likely it is that the disk sectors will be reallocated and over-written, and (b) recovering the data and creating a new directory entry for it requires highly-specialized knowledge.

  • Dynamic filename in receiver AS2 adapter in B2B Add-on

    Hello Experts,
    Can you please let me know how we can put dynamic filename in the receiver AS2 adapter for B2B Addon on SAP 7.4.
    Thanks
    Saurabh

    Hi Ryan / Experts,
    Let me explain you in more detail.
    In the receiver AS2 Communication channel, if I keep the Filename field as blank as shown below, then in the Mendelson inbox folder, a file is generated with the name "ASJAVA_DX5" which is my business component name.
    If I fill the filname field for example with "CONTRL", then in the Mendelson inbox folder, a file is generated with the name "CONTRL".
    This is my requirement because, suppose i trigger this interface "first time", a file with static name (ASJAVA_DX5/CONTRL ) would be generated in the inbox folder. If I trigger this interface "second time", since the file already exists with same name, it is not overwritten and I cannot check the output of 2nd trigger . Contents are not overwritten.
    To solve this problem + as a general requirement, I wish to have this name to be dynamic, atleast with date+timestamp.
    Can you please help.

  • Variable being overwritten in the Variable Substitution (File Adapter)

    In the File adapter Receiver Communication Channel, I am using variable substitution.
    The problem is that the first variable I use (userid) is being overwritten by the second variable (filenumber). How can I fix this problem?
    File Name Scheme: %userid%_%filenumber%.xls

  • Any way to Restore Last Manual Sort Order or Prevent from being Overwritten accidentally?

         Help!
         I'm constantly accidentally overwriting painstakingly created manual sort ordering (sometimes hours but more often months of accumulated work) in folders with files numbering up to 1,000, when i, however breifly, switch to another sort ordering (size, date modified etc) to check something, immediately forget that i'm in another sort order, and, unthinkingly (actually i guess i'm thinking of a lot of other things) drag a file to another position, this immediately destroys any past manual sorting i've established, overwriting it with this new inadvertent manual ordering.
         I've tried CommandZ (edit undo) but that only undoes my last rating or labeling, i've rushed to force quit Bridge through the activity montior hoping i will catch it before its overwritten, but obviously i am not as fast as a computer, and i don't think this has ever worked.
    Is there any way or any script someone has written to formally save a manual sort order? Is there anything i've missed to attempt restoring it? Has anyone, repeatedly foiled by this, written something that would give a warning and require confirmation say for instance, if i tried to drag or move a file while in another sort ordering (this seems like something that should have existed the minute the opportunity was given to create manual organization). Would anyone be willing to?
         Seriously, me forgetting almost every time isn't going to change and, more vexingly, it's even happened when i didn't mean to move anything but fumbled momentarily while in another sort order. I think most people might forget because (in the context of computing) we are conditioned to expect a warning if something we have just created is about to be written over or discarded, and since there is no option to formally save a manual ordering we have just created.
         Also, if this was in the real world, moving a single file would not reshuffle everything on your desk. If i had the option to formally save a manual organization i would NOT forget to do this and would use it, as i've wished for one every time spent a while rearranging files. Knowing how easily all the hours (much less months and years of cumulative work) of organizational work can be accidentally lost makes working within Bridge unpleasantly anxious.
          I'm literally willing to do anything including installing some sketchy 3rd-part scripts (though honestly i have no idea what that means or how to do it). I extentively use and rely heavily upon this function so this is a fairly serious Achille's heel. It's like watching your incredibly important meticulously constructed house of cards collapse with a careless but innocent sigh, or like having the equivelent of a not even charming cat dance across your keyboard during a live concert, etc etc....
         Also it is not usually appropriate, given the context, to batch rename everything to preserve a manual ordering w sequence numbers, etc. Often the filenames are considerably (but necessarily, to connote important differences) long already, and when i have to rearrange things in the future would have to do that each time, etc, etc, making for even more unwieldly filenames that didn't have any substantive information at the beginning. I'm looking for a way to make this function (manual sort ordering), well, more functional, secure and stable, the workarounds i've considered cause too many additonal problems.
         Thank you in advance for any help you may be able to offer, and as this is my first attempt to use the forums as i live on a boat with no regular net access, would appreciate any forum etiquette corrections, and advance apologies for any misspellings, dyslexic and spellcheck does not seem to work in this interface. next time will edit in external wordprocessing program beforehand,
              li'l mc szpf
         PS i'm on a 27" mac w CS4 Design Premium, w up to the minute OS (10.6.8) and Adobe software updates installed recently (i do not often move the monster but this week was housesitting w net access, so she has had all recommended shots and vaccinations....)
         PPS I know most of y'all might be running the newest and the latest of everything, but, i'm fairly certain this is still a problem in recent versions as this has happened to me at school where all the macs are running cs5. Though if it's been addressed somehow in cs6 would update entire suite just to fix this one problem in Bridge. I've tried many searches and found nothing relevant or wouldn't bother the considerable expertise and resources of an official forum, was extremely hesitant to ask (feared getting snapped at for unwittingly broaching forum etiquette) but it is truly the bane of my considerable Bridge existence, so was willing to risk the imaginary censure and opprobrium....

    That is a good question, to do this requires two functions and a restart of Bridge all done automagically
    Copy and paste the script into ExtendScript Toolkit
    This gets installed with Photoshop and can be found:-
    PC: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Utilities
    MAC: <hard drive>/Applications/Utilities/Adobe Utilities
    Start Bridge
    PC: Edit - Preferences - Startup Scripts
    Mac: Adobe Bridge menu - Preferences - Startup Scripts
    At the bottom click the "Reveal Button" this will open the folder where the script should be saved.
    Close and restart Bridge.
    Accept the new script.
    To use:
    Tools - Backup Manual Sort
    This will backup the hidden manual sort file .BridgeSort to .BridgeSortSave
    Tools - Restore Manual Sort
    This will copy the .BridgeSortSave back to .BridgeSort and will close and restart Bridge so that the manual sort is restored.
    if( BridgeTalk.appName == "bridge" ) {
    var backUpManSort = new MenuElement( "command","Backup Manual Sort", "at the end of Tools" , "backupms" );
    var RestoreManSort = new MenuElement( "command","Restore Manual Sort", "at the end of Tools" , "restorems" );
    backUpManSort.onSelect = function () {
    var fileSort = new File(app.document.presentationPath +"/.BridgeSort");
    var fileSave = new File(app.document.presentationPath +"/.BridgeSortSave");
    if(fileSave.exists) fileSave.remove();
    fileSort.copy(fileSave);
    fileSave.hidden=true;
    RestoreManSort.onSelect = function () {
    var fileSort = new File(app.document.presentationPath +"/.BridgeSort");
    var fileSave = new File(app.document.presentationPath +"/.BridgeSortSave");
    if(!fileSave.exists){
    alert("No backup file exists");
    return;
    app.document.sorts = [{ type:"string",name:"document-kind", reverse:false }];
    if(fileSort.exists) fileSort.remove();
    fileSave.copy(fileSort);
    fileSort.hidden=true;
    app.document.chooseMenuItem("mondo/command/new");
    app.documents[0].close();
    app.document.sorts = [{ name:"user",type:"date", reverse:false }];
    Hope this works for you.

  • Checking for an existing filename in a directory

    How does iFS know that a filename already existing in a directory? I need to capture the information when someone tries to copy a file to a directory before the file is stored in iFS. For example, if I copy a filename to a directory that already has the same filename using windows explorer, the window will pop up a confirm message before the file is written. How do I get the same information? I need to work on the existing file in the directory before allowing it to be overwritten. Any suggestion.
    Thanks,
    Sun

    Just a small improvement on the API call used to check for the existence of an object at a specified path: the Folder method checkExistenceOfPublicObjectByPath() is better than findPublicObjectByPath(), as the former will return true if there is an object occupying that namespace even if the user doesn't have permission to discover that object; findPublicObjectByPath() will return null in this situation.

  • Why are active menus and dialog boxes disappearing/being overwritten by the active tab/page content?

    Frequently when selecting a download directory/filename in the "save to" dialog the entire dialog is overwritten with the active page content. It appears the dialog has closed, but if you tab through the dialog the active field/control is written but the rest of the dialog remains hidden/overwritten. This has also happened with the "open file" dialog. The the drop down menus on the menu bar are occasionally being overwritten after being activated/pulled down. I have not been able to determine a common/specific event causing this problem.

    I seem to have fixed it by putting <div  class="clearfloat"></div> after the navigation bar?

  • How can I have a topic name different than the filename of a linked Word document?

    I've encountered multiple issues with linking to Word files ...here's another one: If a Word document is entitled Feature_ABC, then upon generating the HTM after linking it, the HTM's filename and topic name are both Feature_ABC. As underscores are ugly in topic names and features can be renamed, I would hope that I could rename the topic to be different than the filename.
    The Help documentation suggests this is possible by editing the Topic Name Pattern in the Word Conversion Settings dialog of Project Settings. However, reagardless of the Pattern entered, every time I generate or update from the context menu of a linked Word document the topic name remains the same as the filename.
    Because the topic name is shown in the Search panel and browser tabs, it will be a little ugly and may even be confusing. It is possible to edit the HTML directly, but then the HTML is overwritten each time the Word documents are update and the great advantage of using linked documents is lost.
    Is there a way to solve this problem?
    Thanks in advance for any help you might be able to provide.

    Thank you for your quick reply - just checked Multifox out.
    It seems it still forces me to open a new window, while preventing the need for a new profile.

  • Acrobat 7 Pro - How to disable prompt for filename?

    I have a Windows XP Pro SP3 system with Office 2003 Pro and Visio 2002 Pro installed.
    I have an Access database that creates Visio 2002 files within the application. Within the Access database, i have the ability to print a single or multiple visio files at once.
    I have followed all the supposed steps to set Adobe PDF printer to dump directly to a folder.
    I have set Adobe PDF as my default printer.
    I have gone to Printers and modified "Adobe PDF" Preferences and changed "Prompt for Filename" and selected a folder that i created. As well as unchecking the show results in Adobe option. I've also made sure that this matches under Printer Defaults. I've even tried creating a folder first, and then adding an "Adobe PDF" port to see if that would work with no luck.
    What am I missing?
    I have tried configuring Adobe Distiller as well as the conversion options in the Adobe Toolbar in Visio with no luck.
    this wouldnt be a problem if i were just creating a handful of PDFS, but this database creates 50-100 daily so it would save myself alot of time to be able for Acrobat to name the file the same as the visio VSD file but as a PDF.
    Any help/tips would be appreciated. Thank you.

    If you are printing to a folder, the folder should contain PS files for each file and the option for filename is probably overwritten by the OS requiring you to specify the filename. With the Adobe PDF printer, you do not print to file, but to the default that is the Adobe PDF port. This port should automatically start Distiller to complete the conversion process - that is where the filename issue is used. The print process should be a one step process, not multiple steps.
    Try printing any file to the Adobe PDF printer and be sure the PDF creation process works, then start playing your other games. Right now it appears you do not have the PDF creation process working.

  • Sequence number in filenames

    Hello,
    When DB dumps next segment of its log, new files are named autolog_name.XXX, where XXX is my problem. I thought that when I perform full backup, this number will reset and start with "001" but it did not
    How can I reset this sequence number in filenames generated by autolog?

    Nope - you can always use an "older" backup and apply the archive logs, this is the same as using a newer backup and use newer archivelogs.

    If you have a problem with the backup for whatever reason, you won't be easily be able to recover an "older" one with that scenario. I have no idea, what problem you have with the "filenamenumbers" but if that is ok for you it's for me too

  • Filename variable changes too fast

    This problem is hard to explain so please bare with me.
    My app is a file downloader.
    I loop through a list of filenames and call my download function on each one.
    Once the download function has been called on item[i], the loop carries on and calls the download function on item[i+1], item[i+2] etc resulting in a queue situation.
    However this means that by the time the first file is being written to disk, the filename getter has already looped through and is on the final file name in the list.
    This results in all files except the last being overwritten, and thus only the final file is saved to disk.
    Basically what i need is a way to pause the for loop (i know this sound silly) until the download functions are complete, but i can't find a way to add a listener to a function. Do i need to bring all these functions into one perhaps?
    Its a lot of code to post so here's a quick layout of how it currently downloads files.
    function downloadButtonClickHandler{
         for each item in list {
              downloadHTTPService.send(item.fileName)
    function downloadHTTPServiceresult {
         downloadFile(URL)
    function downloadFile(URL){
         //download logic, obviously a delay here
         getFileName()
         writeFile()
    function getFileName{
         returns filename
    function writeFile(){
         //write logic
         resolve path "/foldera/folderb/"+ downloadFileName
    So by the time writeFile is called downloadFileName has already changed value. e.g file1, file2, file3 so when the first file is written to disk the name file 3 is used, and the the same happens for the rest of the files so essentially i am getting 3 files all named the same thing.
    Thanks for reading, i really appreciate any advice.

    In recursive function you call the function from within function itself. That allows you to create loop where you can trigger iterations explicitly.
    In your case, actually, it doesn't need necessarily to be recursive function.
    Looking at your code I'd suggest to set the logic in your writeFile() in the way that the getFileName() is called only upon completion of the writing the file.

    Hi Raghu,
    Check your set value for log_archive_format .
    Make sure the format has %s (sequence#)and %t (thread #) , capitalize them and the format will be padded to the left with zeros.

  • Specifying Filename for SaveAs Dialog

    There are lots of threads out there about creating JavaScript to create a unique filename and then automatically save the file with a button click. However, I have a simpiler question. I don't want to automatically save. I want the button to open the SaveAs dialog just like with app.execMenuItem("SaveAs"). However, I would like to know if I can set the filename that would appear by default.
    I want the user to have the option of changing the file name, path, etc. with the dialog, but I do not want the current file name of the form to be the default that comes up. The form is too easily overwritten.
    As an aside, I tried making the file read only. The result is that the file remains unchanged, but the SaveAs dialog displays no error message and acts like it saved the file.
    Any ideas? Thanks for the help.

  • Writing timestamp on the content of file (not the filename) using FTP Adapt

    Hi Experts,
    Is it possible to write a timestamp (from the source server) to a target logfile if I'll use FTP Adapter?
    Here the scenario:
    Source:
    source.log -> the contents is AAAA (the timestamp base from the server is [06/09/10 10:00])
    - basically the source.log file is overwritten with the same content but the timestamp is changed so that's would be scenario
    it will checked by the FTP adapter....
    Target:
    target.log -> the content of the file is 06/09/10 10:00
    so probably if i have a target logfile I'll just have to append the file as this
    06/09/10 10:00
    06/09/10 10:02
    06/09/10 10:04
    06/09/10 10:06
    06/09/10 10:08
    06/09/10 10:10
    If it's possible, how will I do this? Do I need script? or just normal settings of the FTP adapter?
