Filename path with mac?? Help

I am trying to type in a filename path on a webform but have no clue how it works on a mac. The file is in my pictures directory...
On my PC, I know it would be c:/Photos/wedding or something like that to get to the directory. How does this work on a mac?

Find the file whose path you need to know using Finder
Then right click, or ctrl-click on the file and select 'Get Info'
A dialog will appear showing all sorts of data about the file.
The path is shown next to 'where:'
Also, open any finder window, right-click on a blank part of the tool bar (immediately below the title bar) and select'Customize...' now drag the 'path' button onto the tool bar. Now whener ever you need to know the absolute path of a file, just click the 'Path' button.
More information: Mac (and all Unix operating systems) do not use Drive letters as you have probably guessed. All paths take the form....
\volume name\folder\folder\folder\file.extension
Finally, most of your 'special folders' such as Documents etc will live at :
\Macintosh HD\username\Documents
The desktop is at
\Macintosh HD\username\Desktop
and so on.
Obviously the 'username' is your logon name, and 'Macintosh HD' is the volume name of your boot volume. It may be different from 'Macintosh HD'.
I hope this helps.

  • Problems with "Mac Help"

My help files, especially "Mac Help", no longer work properly since upgrading to Tiger. If I open "Mac Help", for example, the help window will pop up, but the links will not work (nothing happens when I click on them) and the search feature in help will not work either (the little gray "clock" just spins next to the help bar and nothing else ever happens). Any suggestions on this one? As I'm a relatively recent Mac convert, the help feature was something that I came to rely on. Thanks!

    Hi CP,
This is a common problem with Mac Help. When it happens, try first (quit Help) deleting this folder:
    Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.helpui
If Help still doesn't work, try then deleting those files:
    Home/Library/Preferences/com.apple.helpviewer.plist
    Home/Library/Preferences/com.apple.help.plist
(and this one if you find it):
    Home/Library/Preferences/com.apple.helpui.plist

But i cannot able to find the "SPRO / IMG" path.

    Hi Ravi,
I am not aware of some direct solution like Search_SAP_Menu for SPRO but here are the alternatives..
    1. Cntrl F in SPRO with some key search words.
    2. Go to that T-code, press F1 and click on customizing from there.

  • Help with Mac Help Viewer

Hello to whoever is looking at this posting. This may be somewhat out of the norm, but for some odd reason, if I ever try to use the Help function in finder, nothing displays. I just get a blank screen with the "ask a question column", but it acts like it is trying to load continuously. I have to force quit to exit.
Does anyone know why this would be or if there is a specific software update to rectify this problem. This machine is still under 1 year basic warrenty, would it make sense to contact support for this? I have no other software conflicts which is the weird thing. Im using Mac OSX Version 10.3.9.
Thank you for any help with this help issue!
    Andrew

Help Viewer crashes or shows blank....
    http://discussions.info.apple.com/webx?[email protected]@.6897a2ae http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/helpviewer.html
This is a common bug in Panther. The solution to this problem is simple though:
    • (~ means your home directory)
Go to ~/Library/Preferences and delete the following files.....
    com.apple.help.plist
com.apple.helpui.plist (you may or may not have this one).
    com.apple.helpviewer.plist
Next go to ~/Library/Caches and delete the folder......
    com.apple.helpui
Log out and log in. If the problem is gone, empty the trash. If not, put everything back.
or you can open MacHelp directly from .....
    /Library/Documentation/Help and it works fine.

I recently updated my OS from 10.2 to 10.28. Now, when I go to Mac Help application, I have a strange problem. There is no text box to enter a question (of which I seem to have many). I've tried clicking on logical places where a text box might be hidden, but no luck
Is there anything I can do to get my text entry box back?
    Thanks for any help!

Hello Kent and welcome to Apple Discussions.
In the Help Viewer window there will be a little oval-like place in the top right hand side.
Click on that to get your toolbar and search box back.

  • Mac Help and Freezing

Hello, I had some trouble with Mac Help yesterday - as in it's gone! - and I've tried the troubleshooting tips, but still no Mac Help. I don't know if probable cause is constant freezing over the last two days? Today is better (hence I can type), but I guess it is only a matter of time. The computer only freezes when plugged in and hooked up to internet, no problems when on battery (don't have Airport at home). Need Mac Help for help - but it isn't there and system keeps freezing in safari and discussions. Please, please some info?!?!?

The fact it is only freezing when you are plugged in
and hooked up to the internet says something about
how you are hooked up to the internet may be at
issue. What method of internet connection do you
have? Is it a standard telephone line, an ethernet
    or USB modem?
Also have you backed up your data? Some
troubleshooting steps may require risky operations to
the hard disk, so we want to make sure you are backed
    up first before we proceed.
Hi, and thanks for the reply. I haven't been able to respond, because - of course - every time I do the Mac freezes halfway through my message.
I have a modem and broadband at home, although I have recently purchased an Airport Card, which I haven't used yet. The problem is that I am going abroad for three months on Saturday (which is why I bought the card to access the school's WiFi where I'm going), and I doubt I'll be able to do much before then.
I only really have iTunes on it that I might not be able to get back. Although I have iPod rip which I have used. My guarantee from where I bought my iBook doesn't run out until October - so in theory I can go to them when I return.
The freezing only occurs when I'm attached to the modem (though not neccesarily online), and seems to be better when it only runs off the battery. It is very confusing. It also seems to freeze more often when I type - it's not so bad when I'm just browsing.
I'm writing this on a friend's computer to get all the info out there. I will check the responses but don't know if/when I will be able to type again as it's such a lottery...But I really would appreciate any help you can offer - and any advice about backing up my information.
    Many thanks,
    Zachary

  • Force quitting a "Mac Help" Window

I was using Numbers on iWork 08 and I clicked the *"Mac Help"* on the main option bar. I typed a question and the Mac Help froze. I assumed that if I closed the Numbers application, that the Mac Help would then clear away. Apparently the problem was not within the Numbers Application, but simply just with Mac Help. I tried force quitting but when I open Force Quit to select Mac Help as one of the programs I quit, it isn't listed in the options. It still has the little Pinwheel showing the Mac Help is loading, and it's been that way for the past hour. It can manually move it around the screen, but it stays in front of whatever windows I have open. I cannot delete it, and the only way I can see it clearing from my screen would be to restart my computer. I do not want to do this, and I am just wondering if there is another way of *force quitting the Mac Help*.

    Try this:
Open *Activity Monitor* in Applications>Utilities. Sort these by "Process Name." Find *Help Viewer*, then click the *Force Quit* button (looks like a stop sign). That should solve things!

  • Help with connecting a G4 with mac 9.2.2 to the internet?

I am new to mac, and I have a G4 that runs on Mac 9.2.2. I plan on upgrading to 10.4.6 (tiger), but I am unable to get it to connect to the internet. Can anyone help?

What is the specific model of your Mac? This can make a difference in some things.
You can connect via a built-in 56K modem if it has one, but it will be very slow. Much better would be to connect via broadband (such as DSL or Cable) using an external modem, either hard-wired via ethernet (usual) or via wireless if available on the machine.
Connecting via hard-wired ethernet is easy. You would need to acquire a modem that is acceptable to your ISP, or lease one from them if they make that option available. Either way, get one that connects via ethernet rather than via USB - USB on a G4 is just too slow for this purpose.
The setup for ethernet is simple in OS 9:
In the TCP/IP control panel (Apple menu > Control Panels > TCP/IP), set
         Connect via     -to-     Ethernet
         Configure         -to-     Using DHCP Server
And that's usually all that is needed.
Connecting via wireless, Airport in Apple's lexicon, is similar to ethernet, as far as setting up the software goes. In order to use wireless, the G4 will need to have an Airport card installed, or you can use a local transmitter which connects via ethernet to the G4. The modem would need to be connected to a receiver (base station) in order to complete the communication path with the Mac.
If you choose to go this path, someone else would need to assist you in setting up the wireless components - I've never done that.
However, if you do not now have wireless internet available, and this is going to be the only machine needing to connect to the internet, it would be much cheaper and easier to just connect the modem via wired ethernet directly to the Mac.
In either case, you will also need to set up your email account. Your email service provider should provide you with the info you need to do that - account type and password, etc. This info is entered into the Internet control panel, Email tab.
If I have misunderstood and you want to connect wirelessly directly to your ISP using something like those small transceiver type modems that many folk use with laptops, that's something else, and someone else would need to help with that.

  • I'm wanting to mark a path with 397 equal sections (in length)- Help?

    Hi,
I'm working with a somewhat complex path (the Circuit De La Sarthe Track Map 2010) that I'm wanting to plot points on (to make an infographic of the 24hrs of Le Mans).
So I need to create marks around the path to indicate each lap (there were 397 laps).
I don't want to split/separate the path - just need to be able to clearly see 397 sections of equal length.
By length, I mean the length of the path if it was a straight line…
I've had a look at scrips and adding anchor points but am pretty in the dark about it all.
    Can anyone help me here?
    Cheers,
    Jordan.

    Hi Jacob,
Brilliant! That looks exactly what I'm after!
I'm in the process of executing the script, it's kind of crashed Illustrator (it currently isn't responding), I'm assuming it's just because 397 is a lot of sections… I might try it on a more powerful Mac and see if it works then.
    Will keep trying.
    Edit:
Okay so it does execute the script after some time, however there are sections of the path that aren't of equal distance, and it looks like it's just plotting too many points… Any ideas?
When using the script I just selected the whole path (with the regular cursor). Even when I input a lower number (eg. 50), it still gives some inconsistent areas within the path.

    Edit:
Figured out the script was plotting 397 points into each 'side', so the line between each bezier point… It doesn't actually say on that link how to split the entire path - only each segment, which unfortunately doesn't solve the problem…

I need advise and help with this problem .
First , I have been with Mac for many years ( 14 to be exact ) I do have some knowledge and understanding of Apple product .
At the present time I'm having lots of problems with the router so I was looking in to some info , and come across one web site regarding : port forwarding , IP addresses .
In my frustration , amongst lots of open web pages tutorials and other useless information , I come across innocent looking link and software to installed called Genieo , which suppose to help with any router .
Software ask for permission to install , and about 30 % in , my instinct was telling me , there is something not right . I stop installation . Delete everything , look for any
trace in Spotlight , Library . Nothing could be find .
Now , every time I open Safari , Firefox or Chrome , it will open in my home page , but when I start looking for something in steed of Google page , there is
''search.genieo.com'' page acting like a Google . I try again to get raid of this but I can not find solution .
With more research , again using genieo.com search eng. there is lots of articles and warnings . From that I learn do not use uninstall software , because doing this will install more things where it come from.
I do have AppleCare support but its to late to phone them , so maybe there some people with knowledge , how to get this of my computer
Any help is welcome , English is my learned language , you may notice this , so I'm not that quick with the respond

Genieo definitely doesn't help with your router. It's just adware, and has no benefit to you at all. They scammed you so that they could display their ads on your computer.
    To remove it, see:
    http://www.thesafemac.com/arg-genieo/
Do not use the Genieo uninstaller!

  • BB Desktop Manager no longer works with Mac Maverick - Need Help Urgently

I have been a loyal Blackberry user since the Government of Canada officially began using these cell phones. I feel, however, abandoned by Blackberry (they obviously don't believe that it is easier to retain an existing customer than acquire a new one). I'm using a Blackberry Bold (9900) with a Macbook Pro. Everything was fine until I upgraded my Mac operating system to Maverick; my Blackberry Desktop Manager no longer works, so I cannot sync the content (contacts, calendar) of my phone with my Mac, but that's not the worst of it.
I recently had a momentary lapse and exceeded the 10 password attempts to access my phone... this accidentally wiped my phone clean... and because Desktop Manager does not work with Mac, I do not have a way to recover my data. Rogers was of no help and had Blackberry updated its desktop software months ago, as it should have, this issue would have been moot. I do not know how or why, but I was able to recover most of my data, but I'm not sure just how up-to-date tha data is and am still going through it, but I'm having issues with some functionality.
I'm in the US for several months and have suspended my Canadian services. Prior to the wipe, I was able to use wifi on my phone to send and receive emails with no problem.  After the wipe, I can't send emails or bbms.  I checked my blackberry internet service and all email accounts are good to go. BBMs are another issue.  I need help.  Suggestions please.

Apple has ceased synchronization with Mavericks. The issue lies with Apple, not with the desktop software. To mitigate the lack of sync capabilities in Mavericks you can sync your contacts and calender on your Mac with the usual suspects (Yahoo, Google). Create a backup (archive) for Contacts and Calender on your Mac first, then create one of those email accouonts that allow syncing. On your 9900 and with BlackBerry provisioning enabled create the new or existing email account. See which email accounts can sync with BB, I know Yahoo is working fine. For Yahoo, get the Yahoo Calender sync (a few bucks one-off payment required), Contacts sync works off the shelf within BB. If you reset the 9900 you should be able to restore all data with BB DTM. Please note that emails you received during the 9900 reset and the date of restore will not be available on the device. You will still not be able to sync contacts/calender over BB DTM. I hope that helps.
