Filenames in Library Grid view

I use filenames of the form "YYYY-MM-DD xxx Description". In the grid view on landscape pictures I can see the sequence number (xxx) when the pictures are a reasonable size, but the filename shown is much shorter on the portrait orientation photos so I can't see the sequence number.
Is there a way to get the filename to use the whole space available on portrait photos so we can see all or at least more of the filename?
Regards
Mike

The only way I know is to use expanded cell view.

  • Thumbnails not visible in Library Grid View

In LR 1.0 on Mac OS X, after converting from Beta 4.1, my thumbnail images are not visible in the Library Grid View, except for just a brief moment when I first click on a Folder (Shoot) name. The images then disappear, leaving just the background.
Double clicking on an image background brings up the image correctly in Loupe View.
Did I miss something in the conversion?
    Many thanks!
    (Mac OS X 10.4.8, Dual 2 GHz PowerPC G5, 6.5 RAM)

    Hello,
I have a similar problem, (windows xp)
Besides the thumbnails not being visible, when I open LR 1.0, it shows my folder structure as imported, with the number of files per folder, but right after that, the folder names start to gray out, and the number of pictures in each folder goes to "0" . The pictures are still there.
For each keyword it shows 0 pictures, until I click on that keyword, then it shows the number of pictures for that keyword.
I did uninstall 4.1, and deleted the database, I don't know if this is related to some left over Beta 4.1 somewhere in there.( my old identity plate still shows) I had no issues, other than being slow when using beta 4.1, I had only imported pictures on a as needed basis( in 4.1), and not the whole folder structure. ( as I want to do with LR 1.0 )
Any solutions ? ( other than uninstall and trying to to a better job of cleaning up, before re installing ? )
P.S. about 1000 files ( jpg, tiff, psd) did not get imported due to errors, but most of them were in my 4.1 library with no problems.
P.S 2 the keywords were entered either in bridge or ID imager, and written back to the files, I never used beta 4.1 to enter keywords, just used it to search them.
P.S 3 ( sorry this is getting too long...) it crashed on import 5 times, about 20,000 files, internal HD just for pics.
    thank you,

  • Cannot move photos via drag and drop (library grid view)

I've seen several adobe tutorials and youtube videos that show moving photos or folders by drag and drop in the library grid view.  I cannot get it to work.
    Steps:
    1. Mousedown on a photo (not the frame) in the grid
    2. Drag the mouse to a folder in the "Folder" pane (left of the grid)
    3. Mouseup on the destination folder
    Results:
Nothing happens.  The mouse cursor doesn't change from the arrow.  There is no indication I can drag and drop.  The photos are not moved.
The photos are stored on a NAS.  Of course I can move them around via Windows Explorer, but I want to do this from inside LR4 for obvious reasons.  From LR4, I can create new folders, but I still cannot move photos into those folders.  I also tried creating a new folder on a local drive.  Again, I was able to create the folders, but was not able to move any photos into the folder.
What else can I do to toubleshoot this issue?

I created a new catalog.  Imported a folder on my C drive, created a subfolder, and successfully moved photos into the subfolder.
I tried the same steps in my original catalog and now I can move all photos (including those on my NAS).  I've been at this for 3 hours.  I have no clue why it is working now, but I guess I'm happy.  Now, it shows the stack of photos when I try to drag and drop.
I even reverted to my original preferences file (that I backed up before deleting) and I'm still able to move the files.  Really strange.

  • No images in Library grid view

    Hi,
In V1.0, when I set my Library to grid view I only see my images for a short while. Then all images turn to grey squares. Updating the grid (like changing thumbnail size or sorting order) again shows images only for a short while.
Loupe and Compare view are ok.
Never had this with the Beta versions.
Is there a setting I need to change?
    Thx,
    Haya

  • Bug: thumbnails not displaying on library grid view

Since using v1.0 the thumbnails will not display on the grid view (there is simply a grid of empty grey squares which can be clicked on). All beta versions worked fine. I started a new library with no improvement. All other screens work as expected. Using Windows XP SP2. Any ideas?

joel, I'm experiencing the same issue - the thumbnails start to appear but once they get to the point where they would be fully loaded, they disappear. I used beta as well, and that worked perfectly fine. Just sent in a ticket to the customer support at adobe, hopefully they can help with a solution. I'm only running the trial version of lightroom.
Where you able to figure out a solution?

  • Smooth scrolling in Library (grid view)

The scrolling has been greatly improved in grid view. It feels not slugginsh anymore (I do have one of the latest iMac + SSD) at rendering the thumbnails.
However, the view is still not using the smooth scrolling hability in Mac OS: it scolls by steps which is very annoying because it is perfectly smooth when grabing the view between thumbnails.

  • Thumbnails in library grid view won't load all the way

Anyone else getting this in LR 3.2? Kind of frustrating to only have half or so of the thumbnails in
grid library view load. This also happens in the scroll bar view.
    Win 7 64 bit

    Are these huge files?
Are you generating standard or 1:1 previews?
If 1:1 try switching to standard to see if that helps.

  • Can't drag files in library grid view

I am unable to click and drag files from folder to folder within a library.

    > Cancel that, now it seems to work. Anyone know why it sometimes doesn"t?
A common problem that people still seem to have trouble with is that you must "grab" the thumbnail image itself, not the frame. Trying to drag an image by grabbing the frame does nothing.

  • Is there a way to hide the square cells in Library's Grid view?

    Hi,
I'm moving from iPhoto from LR. I'm wondering if there's a way to display the photos in the Library (Grid View) without the square cells, so that they resemble the iPhoto display:
I know that I can remove the metadata display using the View Options, but I can't see how to display the photos without the square grid lines (which I find distracting):
    Thanks!
    Doug

There are only limited options to control the display appearance in Lightroom. I don't think any of your requests are possible.

  • Drag and drop option in grid view

    Hi,
I'm editing a large baptisim (750 photos) where I had another photographer. I nede the images in event order. On import, the photos are all over the place. I realise what I should have done, but now I'm here, I want to manualy drag and drop the photos in library-grid view. I'm dragging the photo and moving it, but it won't replace itself. What am I missing? Please help!

But you can find two images from different cameras that appear to be shot at the same time or within a small interval. You can use their capture times to calculate the gap between the two camera's clocks.
Now separate your files by cameras using the Library Filter (or Metadata Browser on LR 1.x) and make global time corrections with the Edit Capture Time command.
Capture time shifts the date/time of each file in the selection by the same amount as you set for the 'most-selected' (or primary select) file.
In the end, yes, sort by capture time.
Export the whole shoot using a sequence in the file-name so they sort correctly on your customer's system.

  • Bug? scroll bar hides behind filmstrip in Grid view

In Library Grid view, when scrolling to the bottom of the grid, the scroll bar slider gets hidden behind the film strip at the bottom of the window.
    OS: WinXP SP2, 4GB RAM

Okay, I will answer my own question in case anyone else sees the problem.
When I am viewing my large catalog with only three thumbnails across in LR, I lose the little button to slide up and down. When I change Grid View to show four or more thumbnails, the button reappears. I'd suggest this is a bug needing fixing.

  • LR4.0: Library Grid Compact Cells view shows just numbers instead of filename, etc.

RAW files (Red) no longer show their filenames in the Library Grid Compact Cells view (now just shows numbers)!
JPGs (Green & Blue) show nothing at all, including ratings and Pick status, and the Develops are gone.
This was after having imported a LR3.6 catalog and intermittently using it for a month.
    Data:
    - Catalog is over 1GB in size, over 50,000 images in the Library
    - Windows 7 x64 with SP1
    - LR4.0 x64
    I have not yet tried:
    - Re-importing the LR3 Catalog backup to see what happens.
    - Creating a new LR4 Catalog and see if it displays the data in the Grid Compact Cells view
    I have tried:
    - Optimizing/Integrity Testing the Catalog

Thank you, Jim. After looking at the View Options again, I found the culprit. I have no idea how the View Option changed in the first place, but that was the solution. Thank you!

  • After selecting an image in Library mode (grid view), my selection of image jumps to another image.

Through several versions of Lightroom, I have encountered this problem.  I choose an image in Library mode while in Grid view and the image jumps to another that I have not chosen.  This happens about 75% of the time.  Does anyone else have this problem?  Does anyone know of a remedy.  I am using a Mac.

You are using the Option key to access the Library under the Go finder Menu?
Click in the Go menu the hold the Option key and you will see Library appear, otherwise is is hidden.

  • In Lightroom 3 I am in Library mode in the Grid View and need to rearrange images, but it is not allowing me to move them.

In Lightroom 3 I am in Library mode in the Grid View and need to rearrange images, but it is not allowing me to move them.

I don't do a lot of dragging to custom arrange my images. But the custom order is right at the bottom of the list of sort orders on my computer.
Added later: But don't worry about the custom order. It doesn't make any difference on my system. Are you sure you are dragging the image itself, and not the border around the image?

  • Grid View in shared library account

Hello, I decided to share my library with my son so he could use Itunes on his account in my Mac. When I go to his user account and look into Itunes I can see the shared library but I can not select the "Grid view" (on the top right). Only the list view is available and the 3 choices on the "view menu" are grayed, no access to it. Is there possibility to view the music as a Grid View?
    Thanks
    Thierry

    Thierry,
I just ran into this today. I'm setting up 2TB of music and video on a Mac Mini in iTunes that I want to access from the other Macs in the house. It works, but I can't change the view on the client machines. You wrote about importing the shared library. Can you be more specific? I'm not an iTunes expert and didn't see how to do this.
    Thanks,
    David
