Filenames of duplicated menus

I have Encore CS3.  I had two menus called "Romaji Songset Menu 1" and "Romaji Songset Menu 2" (I'll shorten that to "RSM" here), and I duplicated them and renamed the copies "Japanese Songset Menu 1" and "Japanese Songset Menu 2" (hereafter "JSM").  Since then, I have been having some funny problems with at least one of those copied menus (like text reflecting the button name even when that checkbox is not checked, or all my navigation suddenly going to zero on a whole menu without warning, etc.).  Just now I happened to look in the Menus directory at the actual files, and noticed that the filenames did not change when I renamed "Romaji" to "Japanese".  The filenames are currently called "RSM 1", "RSM 2", "RSM 1 2" and "RSM 2 3".  And there are other files in the same directory that are older, and they seem to correspond to times when I duplicated menus and then deleted them later - apparently the actual files are not removed from the directory.  Those older files also apparently had the same problem of not being renamed when renamed in Encore - they have names like "RSM 2 2" (from a previous duplication of "RSM 2") and "RIM 2", "RIM 2 2", and "RIM 2 2 2" (I don't remember duplicating my real "RIM" menu that many times, but I suppose it's possible).  There is even a "Top Menu 2", and I don't remember duplicating the top menu at all.
I don't think I had this problem before - I have a project from last fall that also involved duplicating menus, and all the menu files are named the way they should be.
The question is, is this harmless, or could it be related to the other strange problems and should be remedied?  If I rename the physical files, Encore will probably orphan any related links, zero out those menus' button navigation, etc. - who knows what havoc that would wreak.  I am in final testing of the project before sending it off to be made into a DLT for the replicator, and things were looking pretty good until I tried to use one of my menus today and discovered that all the navigation was gone.  I fixed that, but if I don't know why it happened, and if it happens again when the DLT provider opens the Encore project, yikes!
And should I delete the files with old dates, or could there be some sort of umbilical cord between them and the currently used ones?
CORRECTION: I just discovered that the navigation-becoming-all-zeros problem was on not just one but both JSM menus, so there is definitely a disease that duplicated menus have that originals don't, in my case.

@John: I hear you, and from now on I'll use simpler filenames (no spaces and shorter).  But I had the exact same menu file naming convention in a previous project last year, and neither then nor now have I had any of the blatant problems cited in the threads you referenced - I have not gotten any errors whatsoever in this project (knock on wood), and the test DVD's play fine.  By the way, Encore itself is an offender of the "no spaces rule" - notice that the additional numbers it adds have a space in front of them!  I guess if we want to avoid spaces in filenames, we cannot ever use Encore to duplicate menus...
Followup question: If I decide to rename my files to play it safe, how much additional work will I make for myself, and what landmines might there be?  I'll have to re-import all the menus, relink all the buttons to and from each menu, and recreate all the navigation, right?  Anything else?  I have seven menus and a zillion buttons, and I was hoping this project was at its final stage (I actually thought I would have been sending it out yesterday, but my husband found some things to be improved in the videos, and we also noticed that the default button on the menus was not what it should be).  And my asset filenames might give you even more heebee-jeebees (I've never spelled that before - it's just something my mom used to say), as they mostly consist of multibyte characters - but although that might bother you, it is perfectly normal for all Japanese users of PPro and Encore.  I am not going to rename all of them!
@Stan:
The not renaming the file name is exactly what EN does: simply renaming
the menu in the properties panel does nothing other than to change the
name in EN. ... To the extent that it matters, if I really want a filename difference, I
save the menu (as file or template), then import as menu.
Hmm, I guess when I did the same structure of project last year, I must have copied the menu files and imported, rather than duplicating within Encore.  Perhaps I was smarter last year... LOL
EN is not designed for us to go  messing around in those directories (even though we do/must).
That's exactly what I'm afraid of with John's suggestion that I rename my files.  Things are working at the moment. (I feel like if I sneeze something might go wrong, but at the moment it's okay.)
I wonder if your navigation was lost as part of that process?
Nope.  The menu was duplicated over a week ago, and the navigation was fine.  Since then I have made many changes, and the navigation stayed fine.   (I edit in Photoshop, but I never open the files outside Encore, as I'm  afraid of the delicate relationship - I always run Encore and select  "Edit Menu in Photoshop".)  The time when the navigation went away, the only thing I did was to change the default button from 1 to 3 on all four Songset menus, and from 1 to 2 on two other menus.  At that time I made no other changes, and did not open the menus in Photoshop at all.  After only the default button change, the two previously duplicated menus lost their navigation, but all other menus were okay.  That's why I was wondering if there was something special about menus whose filenames have additional numbers that Encore adds when it does duplication.  I don't care about asthetics of filenames or extra files in the folder - I just want to know that my project will run when I send it off to be made into a DLT.

  • Filenames keep duplicating themselves when new rolls are added!!

I used to use an older Sony digital camera to take photos. Each of the photos filnames from that camera began with "DSC", now I use a Nikon D40 and those photos' filenames also begin with "DSC" and in most cases have the exact same filename from previous dates. I have so many photos that use the same exact filename that it is such a pain to locate each and every photo to rename each one differently everytime I import new photos. Is there a setting in iPhoto that would help create brand new filenames with each and every import so that I wouldn't have to rename them manually?? Or is it an issue with the camera??
    Ro

Your camera names he files, and as Larry says, all iPhoto does is copy them over.
Filenames are really irrelevant in iPhoto. It’s well capable of managing multiple files of the same name. What you can do is add a Title to a photo using the Info Pane (Lower left) or batch change many photos using the Photos -> Batch Change command. These titles are as searchable as filenames in iPhoto or any of the apps that integrate with it.
If you want to use the Photos outside the iPhoto ecosystem then you can use the File -> Export command and use the option in the export window to use the Title as filename on the exported image.
Options other than that include moving the files from your camera to the Deskkop first and then using a Batch Renaming utility such as Name Mangler prior to importing them.
    To find your pics...
There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:
For 10.5 users: You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Apple-Click for selecting multiple pics.
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
To upload to a site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. If you're using Gmail you can use iPhoto2GMail
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto. With 10.5 you can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
Or, if you want to access the files with iPhoto not running, then create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
    Other options include:
    1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.

How can I renams my pics in Bridge CS5?

Here's what is in the Bridge cs5 help pdf file.  (I was not able to find this same help info from clicking help in Bridge cs5).
    Batch rename files
You can rename files in a group, or batch. When you batch rename files, you can choose the same settings for all the selected files. For other batch-processing tasks, you can use scripts to run automated tasks.
1  Select the files that you want to rename.
2  Choose Tools > Batch Rename.
    3  Set the following options:
    Destination Folder
Place the renamed files in the same folder, move them to another folder, or place copies in another folder. If you choose to put the renamed files in a different folder, click Browse to select the folder.
    New Filenames
Choose elements from the menus and enter text as appropriate to create new filenames. Click the Plus button [+] or Minus button [-] to add or delete elements.
    •String Substitution
Allows you to change all or part of a filename to custom text. First, choose what you want to replace: Original Filename replaces the string from the original filename. Intermediate Filename replaces a string that is defined by preceding options in the New Filenames pop-up menus. Use Regular Expression allows you to use regular expressions to find strings based on patterns in filenames. Replace All replaces all substrings that match the pattern in the source string.
    Options
Select Preserve Current Filename In XMP Metadata to retain the original filename in the metadata. For Compatibility, select the operating systems with which you want renamed files to be compatible. The current operating system is selected by default, and cannot be deselected.
    Preview
One current and new filename appear in the Preview area at the bottom of the Batch Rename dialog box. To see how all selected files will be renamed, click the Preview button.
4  (Optional) Select a preset from the Presets menu to renaming with frequently used naming schemes. To save batch rename settings for reuse, click Save.

  • Restoring wine menu in KDE [SOLVED]

Hi, i'm using KDE 4.4.1 and wine. Before i decided to clean up mess in KDE menu, all wine installed menu items were under "lost and found"
    As http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Win … Fix.5B1.5D states, i have edited /etc/xdg/menus/kde-applications.menu
Now i had Wine menu, but i didn't need all items, so i ran kde menu editor, and some items were removed. After relogin, wine menu didn't have "Programs" submenu at all :s. I deleted wine menu from KDE menu
    Now, hot to restore that?
I figure out that all desktop files created by wine are in /home/bagheera/.local/share/applications/
In /home/bagheera/.config/menus/ i have several files:

  • Subtitles won't play back off disk image or DVD player.

    Hello,
I am running into problems seeing the sole subtitle track that I have thru a TV DVD Player or a burned disk image. All is fine in DVD SP's Simulator. So the bottom line is that I am doing something wrong, heh?
My set-up is very straight forward: one main menu page, from which I have a "Subtitle Yes No" set of buttons to respectively enable/disable the subtitle track. The "Yes"/"No" buttons enable/disable the subtitle track by checking/unchecking the "View" box of the Button Inspector as described in the first part of this article: http://www.kenstone.net/fcphomepage/dvd_sp2subtitles.html
Furthermore, other menu pages are accessed, playing back media from a single track with numerous chapters in it, and stories made out of that track. I was hoping I could refrain from needing to duplicate all stories, e.g. One set of stories with the subtitling track enabled, the other set disabled, but it seems like this is the way to go to make it work.
Is there another approach to this? I am rather new to DVD SP and am not familiar with Scripts - would a script help this out?
Thanks in advance for any help you could provide...
    Cheers,
    Alain
MacBook Pro 2.16GHz Intel Core Duo   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   2 GB Memory

OK so I've answered my own question, thought I'd post it here if ever this can help someone else...
Duplicating menus and stories toggling on/off the "View" checkbox of my subtitle stream did not work, which is a good thing in a way because it was an ugly scene to work with.
I guess I was impressed by the "Script" term and refrained from using it, but it turns out to be very easy and simple to use... On my "Subtitle - Yes" button, I targetted a 2-liner script that enables "SPRM 2" (the "Subpicture Stream") with the "On" value of 64 for Stream 1. On my Subtitle - No button, I targetted another 2-liner script that disables "SPRM 2" by assigning it a value of 0.
I find the DVDSP documentation on scripting a little lame though, I guess I would have liked some more examples to help the scripting "science" sink in...
    Cheers,
    Alain

  • Same Menu Outro To Different Tracks?

    Hello,
I created an animated menu. I have animations of the titles and images flying in (when you arrive at a menu), as well as animation of all the titles and images flying out (when you've made a selection and leave the menu.)
However, if I have multiple track choices on a menu, what would be the process to first go through my animated outro menu before going to the selected track?
Right now, I'm going about it in a VERY convoluted way. I've created many duplicates of my outtro menu, and each of those duplicates have their own timeout action to go to their specific tracks. And depending on which selection you make on the menu, the button will take you to one of those duplicated menus.
Make sense? I got dizzy just trying to create it. I'm assuming there is an easier way? I looked into stories, but they only choose the order of tracks. Is there a way to do this with a menu? Are there scripts for this?
    Thanks!

Point each button to a seperate script instead of a track. Each script should add a number to a grpm (a variable). Button 1 jumps to a script that adds one, button two adds two, etc. The 2nd command in each script should be a 'jump to' command to a track containing your 'transition animantion'. That track should then jump to another script that has 'jump to track 1 if grpm = 1, jump to track 2 if grpm = 2', etc.
There is a built-in transition that I believe allows you to use any video clip. This would avoid all the script, but I don't think it use sound in that case.

  • Button Routing Error

In previous versions, duplicating a menu would preserve the button routing one so carefully set up.  In CS4, that does not seem to be the case (at least for me).  All duplicated menus have routings set to 0 and must be once again tediously hand routed.
Is anyone else seeing this behavior?

Answer: no, although I just realized that my test was a export and not a template export.
I started with Enc3, so I did not really notice what the alternative would be like.
My approach has been to set the automatic routing preferences more to my liking.   Then the adjustment is not as big a problem.

  • OSX freaking out...keyboard accessing menus..apple menu duplicating options

This may be in the wrong forum, but this is really becoming an issue. What happens is from time to time one of our computer all of a sudden starts freaking out.
What happens is: Keyboard will no longer type. Instead it accesses file commands. For example, If I hit "i" it will get info. You can't type in any dialogue box or anything. All keys will try to access some shortcuts. It's not the keyboard that is the problem. I've tried multiple keyboards.
The apple menu will duplicate options. Like restart will show up twice etc..
Normally a restart would fix this problem, but it seems to be reoccuring more frequently, and the last time, I had to restart 4 times, repair disk permissions, and then zap the Pram twice before it would work again.
    Any insight would be great.
    Thanks

Sounds like something going on in your SystemPreferences>UniversalAccess settings.
Specifically, the 'duplicated' options in the Apple menu is normally associated with VoiceOver.

  • Duplicating and incrementing a filename, and the same for text within

I've done some work in AppleScript; not much in Automator. Am curious which might be the better hammer for this:
    Given an existing text file:
ZAM001_001ref.mov (note: from job to job, only the "ZAM" portion will change).
... with a mime type of "video/quicktime", with the contents of:
    rtsptext rtsp://server.blah.woof/ondemand/zamzam/ZAM_001/mov/ZAM_001001.mov
... I want to create x copies (x depends on the job), incrementing the file name to ZAM001_002ref.mov, etc., and likewise increment the text 001.mov to 002.mov in the file itself (shortened here for brevity).
If the program were speaking, it would say:
Give me the location of the first file.
Tell me how many incremented files you want. Pseudo code maybe something like:
    Repeat x times
Duplicate a file in the Finder, incrementing a number in a file name by 1.
Increment a number in the rtsp server/path/file name by 1.
    Save the file.
    End repeat

This would be tricky (or at the least convoluted) to do in Automator, especially if you wanted to keep to the default actions. Leopard's Automator does have variables, but there are no standard function to do something like increment a number. There are actions to make new text files and to get text from files (and a few to work with an open TextEdit document), but again, no standard functions are available to do something like modify an existing text file. A few Run AppleScript actions would be able to do these things, but you might as well do the whole thing in AppleScript - unless you were wanting to use Automator for something you haven't disclosed.

  • HT1349 Why won't "show duplicates" show up in either my File or Edit menus?  And, why does my entire library keep getting duplicated?

I have a new computer and I'm trying to reload my library and my playlists.  I also have a new iPhone 5 and I'm trying to load that too.  I'm getting duplicates of everything in my library.  When I try to find the "show duplicates" tab in my File menu and/or my Edit menu it isn't there.  Any ideas?  Thanks!

Yes, it has always worked in the past.  The past projects audio clips do not change names.  I obviously did something different in this current project, but unfortunately I have no idea what.

  • Duplicated values when added to list of list

    Hey all,
I'm making a list of lists, when I print the values just after adding in the list of list everything seems fine, but when I print that list where I call it it has duplicate value instead of the 2 different that I see when I first print it, I really don't know what's wrong.
I tried 2 different declarations for the list of list but is the same result, I also tried using index to add the list but no change either.
What is wrong? or how should I do it instead.
    Thanks in advance
    The code is this

  • Pop up menus - network links

    Hello.
I am working on an intranet site. On this particular page,
that would have a lot of links, I decided to use pop ups. Some of
the links will go to other intranet pages, so I can type in the url
(the url links are working). I want some of the links to pull up
documents [that will be stored with the web files in the network
    folder, in subfolders...].
I found a post on here with a similar issue:
my pop up menu links are failing. If I place an existing web
address like www.google.com or com other website I can get them to
work but when I place the directory and file name of a page on my
    site ( X:\directory1\subdirectory\filename.htm) I can't seem to get
them to work. Is there a specific format the file name has to be in
to get the menus to work? It's driving me crazy.
    and this was the reply
are you using a template? I had the same problem and had to do
    this:
    instead of this folder/file.html
I had to do this ../folder/fole.html
if you are using a template it is thinking that your files
are in the template directory, so you actuall have to back out of
the directory in order to access the files
which I found insightful. I have tried "backing out" and see
the difference ( instead of getting nothing or error on page. I now
can tell the the computer is looking for the file in the link, the
results are "page cannot be displayed").I think I am headed in the
right direction, but I haven't figured out how to fill in the
location so that my links work.
FYI, I am using fireworks and dreamweaver. So instead working
on the graphics (fw) file, I decided to just experiment with the
    code directly using dw.
    Can any add more?
    Thanks

I'm afraid of using layers for browser-compatibility reasons.
I'm already seeing signficant differences between the way IE,
Safari and Mozilla treat the same page (the home page of the site,
    which uses layers).
However, thank you for the suggestion. I may end up going
that route, or may just design the form elements to appear lower on
    the page.
Also, it turns out that the form elements that are causing
problems contain ASP code - I think that may be the real issue -
Microsoft is trying to appear on top of DW! Ha.

  • How do I make iPod Classic import (sync) photos via iTunes so that the photos stay in order by filename and can then be viewed as a slideshow in the correct order?

I carefully number my iPod bound photos so that they are in a desired order by filename.  When I sync the photos to my iPod Classic they are not in the same order.  A typical filename would be:  001 001 IMG-3489.jpg followed by 001 002 IMG-3478.jpg.  Windows uses the first seven characters to order the files and does not care what follows the first seven so long as the first seven are not duplicated within the folder.  My iPod ignores that convention.  HELP! PLEASE!  I want to view my slideshows in the correct order.
    Thanks

Does both your Windows and Macbook iTunes have the same library of songs?
if it  does then, much easier to proceed, else try to load the Macbook with the same library as Windows.
Note that only one of the Macbook USB port is good for iPod Classic, the other is too slow and may cause timeout, and I would suggest disconnect all other USB devices, while you Restore or Sync the iPod Classic.
Connect the iPod to the Mac, (if iTunes launch, please close it back.)
Use Disk Utility -> select the iPod Device->First Aid->Repair (use option FAT32)
After the Repair complete, eject the iPod.
    Connect back to the Mac
When iTunes launch, Restore the iPod when Prompted, (use FAT32)
    Sync your library.
    Good Luck!

  • Default Filename for a New Pages Document

When I collect articles from the web and save them in Word or Beans, the file name defaults to the first line (title) of the document. When I save a new document in Pages, the default file name is Untitled. Is there a way to make Pages use the first line of a new document as the default filename?
This is very useful as the Save Dialog box sits right over the top of the document where the Title is displayed.
If this feature is not yet available, what is a good work around?

    This script achieves your goal.
    --[SCRIPT saveAs1stParagraph]
Enregistrer le script en tant que Script : saveAs1stParagraph.scpt
déplacer le fichier ainsi créé dans le dossier
    <VolumeDeDémarrage>:Users:<votreCompte>:Library:Scripts:Applications:Pages:
    --=====
    L'aide du Finder explique:
L'Utilitaire AppleScript permet d'activer le Menu des scripts :
Ouvrez l'Utilitaire AppleScript situé dans le dossier Applications/AppleScript.
Cochez la case "Afficher le menu des scripts dans la barre de menus".
    --=====
Save the script as a Script: saveAs1stParagraph.scpt
Move the newly created file into the folder:
    <startup Volume>:Users:<yourAccount>:Library:Scripts:Applications:Pages:
Maybe you would have to create the folder Pages and even the folder Applications by yourself.
Copy the string to use as filename.
    menu Scripts > Pages > saveAs1stParagraph
The script opens the "Save As…" dialog and paste the selected name in the target field.
    --=====
    The Finder's Help explains:
To make the Script menu appear:
Open the AppleScript utility located in Applications/AppleScript.
Select the "Show Script Menu in menu bar" checkbox.

  • Where is Original Filename found in Lightroom 2?

Up until October 14th, everything I imported into LR included the original filename, which could always be found under LOCATION in the Metadata drop-down menu on the right side of Library Module. But since upgrading to LR 2, and just recently importing a bunch of images, I noticed that this original file name has gone missing. It's not under the LOCATION metadata view, and it's not showing up elsewhere, too. I have looked at help menus, tutorials, etc. without finding an answer. Hopefully someone here will know.
This matters to me because, for example, after importing and renaming my files, I accidentally deleted a file from my LR catalog and the disc. I had to go back to the RAW backups with original filenames to find that picture. Also, I have had an image or two go 'corrupt' in LR before, and had to relocate the original and re-import it from the RAW backup.
    Thanks,

Thanks John. I've tried that, here's what happens.
When I rename AT TIME OF IMPORT, it doesn't show me the original file name in any of the metadata view modes. If I rename after import, it shows the original file name in Location and All. if I don't rename at all, it shows the filename as normal. So it appears that LR 2.x doesn't show it if you rename on import, which if true, is sad that they took that out. I import by 'copy and move to a new location' while renaming. It's a one-step process that way in getting them into LR library and onto the hard drive with the new names all at once. But if that's the way I have to do it from now on, at least I know I can get to that file name somehow.
    Thanks for your help!
