Hi ,
I am accessing an XML document using the digester class. However I get a FilenotfoundException eventhough the file exists.
this is my code

     public void port()
     public void addSubmi(SubmitVO submit )
          portinInstances.addElement(submit );
     public Vector getPort()
          return portInstances;
And my run-time error message is

Please help :(
Thanks in advance. . .

I am using kxml as well to parse a xml file and it's attributes. It works great for me. The ParseException is probably only thrown when you got an illegal xml file (no correct format) I guess.
But post some code and check your xml file.

  • Digester parsing multiple tags in XML

    Hi,
    I am using Digester parser to parse a XML which does have multiple tags in it like for example:-
    <Customer>
    <Customerdetails>
    <Customer name="xxx" age="xxx" />
    <Customer name="yyy" age="yyy" />
    </Customerdetails>
    <Messages>
    <Success msg="success" active="true"/>
    <Failure msg="failure" active="true"/>
    </Messages>
    </Customer>
    Here i am parsing the the customer details using the following code with Digester:-
    Digester digester = new Digester();
    digester.setValidating(false);
    ArrayList<Customer> customerList = new ArrayList<Customer>();
    digester.push(customerList);
    digester.addObjectCreate("Customer/Customerdetails/Customer", Customer.class);
              String[] attributeNames = new String[] { "name",
                        "age"};
              String[] propertyNames =new String[] { "name",
                        "age"};
              digester.addSetProperties("Customer/Customerdetails/Customer", attributeNames,
                        propertyNames);
              digester.addSetNext("Customer/Customerdetails/Customer", "add");
    // parsing for Message success & failure will go here
              try {
                   digester.parse(in);
              } catch (Exception e) {
                   throw new RuntimeException(e);
              System.out.println("the customerList.size"+customerList.size());
              return customerList;
    here it is giving the CustomerList size as "2" , which is correct and i am getting the customer details (name & age) properly, now i need to parse the <Messages> both "Success" and "Failure", that should be done in the same method , when i try to do the same logic for Messages like:-
    digester.addObjectCreate("Customer/Messages/Success", Customer.class);
    String[] attributeNames = new String[] { "msg",
                        "active"};
              String[] propertyNames =new String[] { "msg",
                        "active"};
              digester.addSetProperties("Customer/Messages/Success", attributeNames,
                        propertyNames);
              digester.addSetNext("CustomerMessages/Success", "add");
    i am getting the success message data properly , but the customerdetails data is lost, since i am writing this logic next after the customerdetails.
    Now i need the final list (ie) CustomerList to hold all the values that is "Customerdetails", "MessageSuccess" & "MessageFailure" . But i am getting only the values for the last one that is parsed. Is there any way to get all those values in the final list (CustomerList), i am pretty new to Digester, similarly to parse the message failure details, whether we need create another digester.addObjectCreate("Customer/Messages/Failure", Customer.class); to parse it , cant we optimize this through Digester? Please do shed some light into this.
    Thanks,
    Rithu

    >
    No - it is NOT failing on the parse step. If you comment out various sections of the code you will find that your loop is causing the problem.
    Comment out this loop and there is NO exception.
        l_buffer   CLOB;
        FOR i IN 1 .. l_col_cnt
        LOOP
          DBMS_SQL.define_column(l_cursor, i, l_buffer);
        END LOOP;Do you now see the problem?
    You are using 'define_column' and passing 'l_buffer' which is a CLOB. But this is your query
        v_query := 'SELECT CREATED FROM DBA_USERS';And that 'CREATED' column in the query is a DATE.
    Why are you defining a column as a CLOB when the cursor column is a DATE?
    See the example3 in Chapter 100 DBMS_SQL in the Packages and Types doc. It shows an example that includes a DATE column.

  • Problem in parsing XML using DOM Parser.

    Hi,
    I am parsing an XML using DOM Parser.
    When i try to get attributes of a node, i dont get in the order it is written. For Eg. This the node:
    <Level0 label="News" link="/website/ing_news.nsf/ViewNewsForm?OpenForm&All" level="202" uid="COGN-4MNMT3" parentid="aaaa">
    When i try to print the attribute values i should get in the order:
    News, /website/ing_news.nsf/ViewNewsForm?OpenForm&All, 202, COGN-4MNMT3, aaaa
    BUT I AM GETTING IN THE ORDER:
    News, 202, /website/ing_news.nsf/ViewNewsForm?OpenForm&All, aaaa, COGN-4MNMT3
    Is there any way to sort this problem out?
    Thanks and Regards,

    Hi Guys,
    Thanks a lot for your replies.
    But i want to keep all the values as attributes only.
    the XML file is as shown below:
    <Menu>
    <Level0 label="News" link="/website/ing_news.nsf/ViewNewsForm?OpenForm&All" level="202" uid="COGN-4MNMT3" parentid="aaaa" children="3">
         <Level1 label="ING News" link="" level="1" uid="COGN-4MNN89" parentid="COGN-4MNMT3" children="3" >

              </Level2>
    </Level1>
    </Level0>
    The code i was using to get attributes is:
    String strElementName = new String(node.getNodeName());
         // System.out.println("strElementName:"+node.getNodeName());
    NamedNodeMap attrs = node.getAttributes();
    if (attrs != null) {
    int iLength = attrs.getLength();
    for (int i = 0; i < iLength; i++) {
    String strAttributes = (String) attrs.item(i).getNodeName();
    String strValues = (String) attrs.item(i).getNodeValue();
    Also is it not possible to Enforce the order using some Schema/DTD in this case?
    TIA

  • Problem in parsing an XML using SAX parser

    Hai All,
    I have got a problem in parsing an XML using SAX parser.
    I have an XML (sample below) which need to be parsed
    <line-items>
    <item num="1">
         <part-number>PN1234</part-number>

    each item with its
    values(partnumber,qty,lpn,refnum1,refnum2,refnum3).
    Suppose if there are 100 items, i need to invoke the stored
    procedure sp1() 100 times for each item.
    I need to invoke the stored procedure in endDocument() method of
    SAX event handler and not in endelement() method.
    What is the best way to store those values and invoke the stored

    Any help would br greatly appreciated.

    VO or ValueObject is a trendy new name for Beans.
    So just create an item class with variables for each of the sub elements.
    <item>

    <quantity uom="ea">10</quantity>
    <lpn>LPN1060</lpn>

    <reference num="2">Line ref 2</reference>
    <reference num="3">Line ref 3</reference>
    </item>
    public class ItemVO
    String partNumber;
    int quantity;
    String quantityType;
    String lpn;
    List references = new ArrayList();
    * @return Returns the lpn.
    public String getLpn()
    return this.lpn;
    * @param lpn The lpn to set.
    public void setLpn(String lpn)
    this.lpn = lpn;
    * @return Returns the partNumber.
    public String getPartNumber()
    return this.partNumber;
    * @param partNumber The partNumber to set.
    public void setPartNumber(String partNumber)

    destinationFirstname and destinationLastname.
    Pls let me know how to do that.

    hi pooja,
    I think you are using DataHandler for parsing. Its deprecated. try using contentHandler . You can get the value of the element at the beginning. say for example
    <firstname>sdfs</firstname>
    the startElement will be firstname
    the next method that it invokes will be characters method which has the text associated with the element. I am sending a sample code for your problem. try using it .
    boolean m_boolinAuth = false;
    boolean m_boolinDest = false;
    boolean m_bAuthFName = false;
    boolean m_bAuthLName = false;
    public void startElement(String namespaceURI, String elementName, String qName, Attributes atts)
    //does the logic for startElement
    if(qName.equals("Authorization"))
    m_boolinAuth = true;
    m_boolinDest = false;
    else if(qName.equals("Destination"))
    m_boolinDest = true;
    m_boolinAuth = false;
    if(qName.equals("firstname"))
    m_bFirstName = true;
    if(qName.equals("lastname"))
    m_bLastName = true;
    public void characters(char[] ch, int start, int length)
    //does the logic for characters.
    String str = new String(ch,start,length);
    if(m_bFirstName)
    if(m_boolinAuth)
    m_strAuthFirstName =str;
    else if(m_boolinDest)
    m_strDestFirstName = str;
    m_bFirstName = false;
    if(m_bLastName)
    //same as first name case;
    }

  • Parsing an XML using DOM parser in Java in Recursive fashion

    I need to parse an XML using DOM parser in Java. New tags can be added to the XML in future. Code should be written in such a way that even with new tags added there should not be any code change. I felt that parsing the XML recursively can solve this problem. Can any one please share sample Java code that parses XML recursively. Thanks in Advance.

    Actually, if you are planning to use DOM then you will be doing that task after you parse the data. But anyway, have you read any tutorials or books about how to process XML in Java? If not, my suggestion would be to start by doing that. You cannot learn that by fishing on forums. Try this one for example:

  • Parsing xml using DOM parser in java

    hi there!!!
    i don have much idea about parsing xml.. i have an xml file which consists of details regarding indentation and spacing standards of C lang.. i need to read the file using DOM parser in java n store each of the attributes n elements in some data structure in java..
    need help as soon as possible!!!

    DOM is the easiest way to parse XML document, google for JDOM example it is very easy to implement.
    you need to know what is attribute, what is text content and what is Value in XML then easily you can parse your document with dom (watch for space[text#] in your XML document when you parse it).
    you get root node then nodelist of childs for root then go further inside, it is easy believe me.

  • How to use a parser with crimson XmlDocumentBuilder

    Hi,
    I'd be very grateful for any help on the following...
    I used to use the following code to parse an Xml document, using a SimpleElementFactory to create my own class Element nodes...
    XmlDocumentBuilder builder = new XmlDocumentBuilder();
    parser = new com.sun.xml.tree.ValidatingParser();
    parser.setDocumentHandler( builder );
    parser.parse( in );
    Docuent doc = buider.getDocument();
    This worked fine using the project X code. However after migrating to the crimson code I can't find a way to link my XmlDocumentBuilder with the parser.
    com.apache.crimson.parser.ValidatingParser seems to have no methods to link it to a com.apache.crimson.tree.XmlDocumentBuilder. If I follow a similar pattern to before the getDocument call returns null as the parser is not linked to the builder.
    Please could someone point out my obvious mistake!
    Many thanks

    By the way, there is a new feature in Java 5.0 (Tiger) called "Annotations."
    Since your code extneds DefaultHandler, you could specify a line with
    @Override
    before the definition of each of your methods. If you had used these, the compiler would have given an error since your methods did not override the methods of DefaultHandler.
    (If your code implemented ContentHandler, by contrast, using @Override is invalid because you need to implement all of the methods defined in the interface definition.)
    The other comment is that the safest way to handle characters() data is to use a StringBuilder/Buffer (StringBuilder is only valid in 5.0, StringBuffer has been around since Release 1.0) that you define in the startElement method. Use the append method to gather data presented to you in the characters() method and use toString() to harvest the data in the endElement method.

  • How to use Xerces parser in my code

    Hello all,
    This is my first time in the forumn. I am a beginer to xml. I am trying to use xerces SAX parser to parse the xml document. I have downloaded xerces 2.6.2 in the c drive. Can you please guide me how can I use it in my piece of code and how to execute. I tried using the parser available on my system. This code works fine. But I am confused with how can modify my code to parse using Xerces parser.
    Help appreciated!
    import javax.xml.parsers.SAXParserFactory;//This class creates instances of SAX parser factory
    import javax.xml.parsers.SAXParser;//factory returns the SAXParser
    import javax.xml.parsers.ParserConfigurationException;//if the parser configuration does not match throws exception
    /*2 statements can be substituted by import org.xml.sax.*;
         This has interfaces we use for SAX Parsers.
         Has Interfaces that are used for SAX Parser.
    import org.xml.sax.XMLReader;
    import org.xml.sax.SAXException;
    import java.io.*;
    import java.util.*;
    public class CallSAX_18 {
         public static void main (String []args)
                   throws SAXException,
                   ParserConfigurationException
                   IOException {
         /*     3 statement below can be substitued by this below 1 statement when using other parser
    XMLReader xmlReader = XMLReaderFactory.createXMLReader("org.apache.xerces.parsers.SAXParser");
              SAXParserFactory factory = SAXParserFactory.newInstance();
              SAXParser saxParser = factory.newSAXParser();
              XMLReader xmlReader = saxParser.getXMLReader();
              /*/MyContentHandler has callback methods that the SAX parser will use.This class implements startElement() endElement() etc methods.
              DBContentHandler dbcontent = new DBContentHandler();
              xmlReader.setContentHandler(dbcontent);
              xmlReader.parse(new File(args[0]).toURL().toString());

    Well, I am not too familiar with SAX, but I know my DOMs 8-)
    is there a reason you are using SAX to parse versus DOM?
    what is your final objective that you want to accomplish? Perhaps
    DOM might be better? Are you trying to parsing XML into nodes?

  • Update XML using DOM parser

    Code snippet
    ===========
    OutputFormat outputFormat = new OutputFormat("XML","ISO-8859-1",true);
    outputFormat.setDoctype(null,"emp.dtd")
    It adds the DOCTYPE element but doesnt create the .DTD file.

  • Has anybody used DocumentBuilder.parse(URL)

    Hi friends
    Has anybody used DocumentBuilder.parse(URL) for make document object.
    I have the following piece of code
    <code>
    DocumentBuilderFactory factory = DocumentBuilderFactory.newInstance();
    DocumentBuilder builder = factory.newDocumentBuilder();
    System.out.println("| Start | Fetch xml"); // ------------ 1
    Document document = builder.parse("http://some url that gives back XML");
    System.out.println("| Stop | Fetch xml"); // ------------- 2
    </code>
    Now the problem is .. once in a while the code will hang at point 1 and will never reach point 2. Exception handling has been done.. but there are no exceptions being logged. The code simply hangs.
    Please let me know if you have also faced the same or similiar problem.
    Thanking in anticipation
    Partha.

    Is it similar with a file URL instead a http URL.
    Use
    Document document = builder.parse("file://c:/xmlFile");
    instead of
    Document document = builder.parse("http://some url that gives back XML");
