Files are going missing, im affraid i need to reformat

recently the computers been slowing down. then all of a sudden all my pictures dissappeared off the computer including the save folders for iphoto and photobooth. and i cannot save new folders in my picture folder. also i cannot open pdf files anymore everytime the program just crashes and closes. i tried to verify the disk and the permissions ang got this message. both times....

is there an easier fix then reformatting here?

What is your hard drive capacity and available free space?
If your boot volume has a directory problem that Disk First Aid repair via Disk Utility when booted from your Tiger install disc cannot successfully repair after running repair several times, the problem is substantial.
In this situation, you can try using a more substantial disk repair utility such as DiskWarrior or TechTool Pro with no guarantee (although DW has been known to work miracles) or backup all data and reformat the hard drive HFS+ with Journaling enabled before performing an Erase & Install.

Numbers in iWork 09 not working can't access Blank, Checklist and many other files within Numbers. I can open the program but only a few files are available. When I click on the file (which also has no icon just the name of the file) this warning appears:

I recently had to get a new hard drive installed and had the system upgraded and more memory put in by a Mac certified specialist recommended to me from the Apple store in Northbrook because this was the 3rd time my drive went bad but this time it was to old (I got the IMAC- in 2007) and the Apple store could no longer work on it this time so they recommended a few places that had certified Mac specialists. Since then Numbers is not working right.
I'm sure it's something simple to fix, but I've tried re installing it and that didn't work. Appreciate any help.

There is one way its getting fixed. Once I update my Adobe Illustrator CC to Adobe Illustrator CC 2014 it is further allowing me to go into the system folder and allocate the font to the file so that it can replace it. My only concern now is that our MAC partners who will receive these files back from us have Adobe CS6. We will down save it to CS6 but I hope they won't experience any font issues because of us using CC 2014? Any light you can shed on this?

Upgraded to 7.3.1 and audio files are corrupted -- missing vocal tracks

Just upgraded a work computer to itunes 7.3.1 and my music files are now playing without vocal tracks and very poor audio quality.
it's a cheapo work computer, HP with a celeron processor.
Any suggestions?

Same problem here. upgrade seemed to go OK, but audio quality in library songs is crap.
Demo tunes from itunes store sound great, so it seems my library is corrupted.

My Files Are Going Bye-bye!!! HELP!

I've been encountering this problem over the last couple days. I'll batch capture a tape, maybe 50 or 60 clips. The capture scratch is on my external hard drive. when the batch is complete, it connects all the files just fine and dandy. I can edit my clips, do whatever to all of them.
The problem comes when I shut down Final Cut, (v.5) then re start it... a few of my clips have gone offline. When I go looking for them in capture scratch, THEY ARE GONE!
very strange, very frustrating... anyone else ever encountered this problem, or have any sugestions...?

David's post jogged the memory a bit.
There were some posts and one of the theories was:
* having multiple studio apps open at the same time confused the 'delete unused renders' daemon and perfectly useful (and desired) files ended up in the bit bucket. When you shut down and restart, those files are not held and were simply gone.
The work around was never to have multiple apps open. Not a reasonable process but seemed to end many of the problems.
Not a real answer, but before you shut down can you make a copy of the days current clips? It would be interesting if they lasted through the nite.
I read the other posts quickly and do not remember if anyone suggested to run FCP Rescue or otherwise delete your preferences.
You may want to also run disk utility and perhaps diskwarrior to verify there are no other file/directory structure issues.

I have already installed HWMonitor when dj_page suggested it may be due to overheating yesterday.
Tried to insert a print sceeen but file was too big.
The CPU package is running at 62°C
the 4 cores vary from 61,62,64,54
I don't know if this is hot or normal.
Once I get into Lightroom I have no way of telling what the temps are as the second I generate a 1:1 preview the computer reboots.
All three case fans and CPU fan are running.
Don't know what else I can check.
The case is a mid-tower Antec with lots of space and well designed ventilation.
Currently I'm using the Intel graphics display built into the motherboard. Have a new graphics card coming because I suspect that the added load of the video onto the CPU may be causing the issue. What do you all think?

My PowerPivot files are going corrupt

Somehow my computer has corrupted most of my PowerPivot files. Some that are stored on SharePoint still work, as long as i don't save them. As soon as i save it though, the next time i open it (or sometimes immediately after i save) i start getting
error messages. at first it was just the one saying the PowerPivot data is corrupt and then i would have to attempt to restore. it would usually restore, but it was annoying.
now i'm getting this error:
"Unable to load the VertiPaq engine because there was a COM exception while loading. This might happen if you load a workbook on a corrupt installation. To fix the problem, uninstall and then reinstall PowerPivot. Click Details for more error
information."
when this happens, i'm unable to use the powerpivot data at all. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling. nothing. I've tried moving the file to another PC, same problem.
i've tried just about every suggestion on every support page or forum and nothing works. I've reimaged my laptop several times and the issue just keeps reappearing.

It's a bad new that you didn't backup all of your PowerPivot files, please backup the PowerPivot files immediately which are work for you.
What's the specific SQL Server PowerPivot for Excel version? The latest version of SQL Server PowerPivot for Excel 2010 is "11.0.3129.0", we can download it from the site below:

Hotmail emails are going missing in Mail

Hi
Has anyone found a resolution to this problem. All my Hotmail emails download fine into Mail when I configured it the first time but now when I go to click on a particular email, the whole folder content disappears. The messages are still on my actual hotmail account, but are just not shown in Mail.
Any ideas please....

Why are photoshop icons showing up as color bars in AE6 even though the files are not missing?

I have imported the file numerous times, they actually show up in After Effects. If I render it renders fine, however the icons next to the photoshop files show up as color bars.
Can anyone hep me figure this out?

Can't login as an admin, log files are going nuts,HELP!

The heart of the matter:
1) About a year ago I realized my ASL log files were growing out of control (about 30gb right now)
2) I d/led Omni DiskSweeper and Yasu
3) I started using Yasu regularly and it seemed to keep things a lot cleaner
4) Suddenly, out of nowwhere I started getting warnings again that my hd was full but
I couldn't log in as an admin, it rejected the passwords I'd set years ago and I was unable to reset
to a new password with the startup disk (the new password is never recognized when I reboot)
5) Yasu completely stopped working, now every time I try to launch it it says
"error dscl_cmd DS Error -1436 (eDSRecordNotFound (56)"
I'm not that comfortable getting under the hood or using console. Is a complete reinstall the easiest/only fix? One more wrinkle I d/led MacKeeper recently but found it useless and irritating cause of my login issue so dumped it.

Regarding MacKeeper, make sure you remove all associated files ...
To Completely Uninstall and Remove Zeobit's MacKeeper
Download and Install AppCleaner
Download and Install Find Any File
Run AppCleaner
Click on Applications
Select MacKeeper
Click on Search
Select all results
Click on Delete
Run Find Any File
Search for zeobit
Select and Delete all results (except for those already in the Trash)
Search for mackeeper
Select and Delete all results (except for those already in the Trash)
Open Up Keychain Access
Search for zeobit
Select and Delete all results
Search for mackeeper
Select and Delete all results
Secure Empty Trash
Reboot
Unless you perform all of these steps, you'll have remnants of Zeobit's MacKeeper app. I had installed MacKeeper several weeks ago, when I had accidentally deleted some files on my Mac -- hoping to use their "undelete" feature. This was when my nightmare began. Even after using AppCleaner to remove it, there were still some background processes that were running every 10 seconds. While probably harmless, this adds unnnecessary strain on the Mac.
The key was also using Find Any File and delete any entries in the Keychain Access.

Can you find the missing contacts in your Outlook Deleted Items folder?
Since this is a randomly issue and happen with undefined interval, it's a bit difficult to tell which side causes the contacts disappearing.
We can try to disable sync to your Iphone to check if the issue still persist to determine if the problem is related to the Iphone side.
Or, we can just try to use Apple iTunes to synchronize your Outlook and Apple iPhone, and then check if the contacts will still keep disappearing in this situation. See:

Boot using USB linux Ubuntu and copy all the files to external HDD or burn on DVD. Your machine seems to have infected with System check virus. I have had it. Folders were there, the size of the folders was correct but the folders were 'empty'. The virus changed atttributes of all the files.

"iTunes Musik Library.xml" and "iTunes Library" Files are gone...

On the Macbook of my brother these files are totally missing. Can´t even find them with Spotlight.
he has an "iTunes Music"-folder where his Albums are store in.
iTunes is still running but many Songs have lost their link.
He has an amount of songs with the same name "Titel 01, Titel 02..." so it´s very hard to repair the links.

You would need to download iTunes on comp and download purchases again (you don't have to pay again) and upload your CDs again IF you sync your iPad to your computer it will erase everything

Render Files Are Being Saved onto My Mac Book Hard Drive...?

Hi All -
So, I was highly curious as to why I have such little disk space on the hard drive on my Mac Book Pro and discovered that there is a file called "Render Files" on my hard drive which contains an enormous amount of video footage from movies I've edited in FCP.
I don't understand why these files are going into my hard drive...? I have an external My Book connected to my computer. In FCP under System Settings, on the Scratch Book tab, Video Capture, Video Render and Audio Render are all checked off and to the right of this my My Book is listed. So I thought everything would be going into my My Book external drive.
However, I looked into My Book and noticed that there is a file that says Capture Scratch that seems to have all of the captured footage of these movies. So, I'm thoroughly confused as to what this "Render Files" file is doing on my hard drive and how can I just get all video footage to automatically store on my external My Book drive. I'm afraid that if I delete the files in the "Render Files" that I'm going to create a real disaster.
Any advice or clarification on this would be most appreciated.

Couple of options for you to consider:
Open the Render Folder that you have found on your internal hard drive and sort the files by date. Are the files recent / from the current project that you are working on?
If they are then I would go to

download Preference Manager and trash your preferences. This will cause you to lose your current preferences, favorites, etc., which you will have to manually reset - but often clears up strange behavior in FCP. I would then go back and reset my Scratch Disk settings to the external drive.
Is there at Render Files folder on your external drive? Open that and sort be date and see if your current project render files are there.
If they are, that would mean the render files you found on your internal drive are from projects prior to you assigning the files to your external drive.
