Files as an audiobook

I have a cd with an audiobook(mp3s) on it, but all the chapters are as seperate files, how can I merge them all together as one audiobook?

There are a lot of places that explain this. Basically you must do several things.
1. Before importing, select all, set to join tracks from menu, import as AAC.
2. Delete track from iTunes, DO NOT delete file.
3. Close iTunes, Open explorer, navigate to where file is saved. Change file extension to .m4b instead of .m4a.
4. Open iTunes, import file you just changed.
Importing this way makes a single file the full length of the CD. I make sure the track and album name are the same and include a disc number for multi-disc sets. Changing the extension is what allows the file to save you place. This will also make iTunes put the tracks into the Audiobooks folder in iTunes and on you iPod.

  • How do i Add An Audiobook file to the Audiobook Library Folder????

I have an audiobook I've downloaded and want to put it in the folder under Library called Audiobooks so they are all together. How do I do this??? The Audiobook is currently in my music folder. Both the audiobooks and music folders are under the Library folder. I can't seem to move this file into the audiobook folder from the music folder. How is this done?????

You didn't indicate the source of your audiobook, so I'll try to cover both bases.
First base: If you bought your audiobook from Audible.com and have authorized your computer correctly, the audiobook should go into the built-in Audiobooks folder automagically after you've imported it. This is how I purchase audiobooks – I buy them from Audible, download them directly from Audible's site, then import them into iTunes. Audible spoken word files end with .aa .
Second base: If you did not get your audiobook from the iTunes Store or Audible, it appears you're out of luck. The Audiobooks folder in the Source Pane is for audiobooks from Audible or the iTunes Store only:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304706
However, you can make your own smart playlist for your audiobooks. Use 'Get Info' (command-I), choose 'Info', and set the genre of your audiobooks to 'Audiobook' or 'Spoken Word' (or whatever suits you). Then, make a smart playlist to catch them and ignore the default Audiobooks folder from then on.
When you sync your iPod, that playlist will show up under Music/Playlists, not on the iPod's Main Menu. You can then change the settings on your iPod to not show the prefab Audiobooks folder on the Main Menu.
It's not an elegant solution, but you'll have all your audiobooks together.

  • Audiobooks: Importing MP3-files and ripping Audiobooks from CD

How may I import Audiobooks files to the Audiobook library in iTunes?
When I import audiobook files to iTunes, they are seen in the Music library, not the Audiobooks library. Except when I buy audiobooks from Apple store, then they install itself correctly under Audiobooks.
Alternative: Can I move the audiobook files from the Music library to the Audiobooks library in iTunes?
This issue have been up before, last time in Dec 2006, without any answers.
I hope Apple or some wice person can answer this issue this time!

That's a common problem when audiosbookd are downloaded from a source other than the iTunes Store. Try this link and see if you find something useful: http://aldoblog.com/audiobooks/itunes/frequently-asked-questions/#q11

  • HT1473 i need a file to download audiobooks to ipod nano 5th generation

I need a file to download audiobooks to my ipod nano 5th generation
    eg. .aa

    Original message:-
I have tried every way but due to my ipod requiring iOS I cannot upload audiobooks. I can only upload audiobooks  made by Librivox. on iTunes
I used another Website called "Audible", where with my Ipod nano 5th generation they gave me a file namely .aa which worked for me and I was able to upload audios of all kinds onto iTunes and my Ipod..
Have iTunes any such files that I can use to do the same please? thank you.
    New Message:-
Sorry my friend but you are not answering my question.
Now you are asking me  "And what do you mean by 'have iTunes any such files' ?"
and "have you checked to see if the site that you got them from have their own app in your country's app store ? Which is UK, is there a difference?
I have an Ipod nano 5th Generation so I use "ITunes" yes? or "Apple" if you prefer that?
Now when I download audiobooks on to iTunes  I cannot transfer those audiobooks from iTunes  on to my ( Ipod nano 5th Generation) because ITunes STORE tell me that I need iOS  which is NOT on my player although when I purchased the player it advertised it downloaded Music and Audiobooks OK?
Yet when I went to another site "Audible" THEY had a file to facilitate my player WHICH allowed me to download both music and audiobooks:)
Now all I'm asking you is does "ITunes" have any such software to allow me to do the same to get my audiobooks downloaded?  Thank You.

  • How do I move an audiobook file from my song files to the audiobooks file?

I downloaded several audiobooks, from cds, the files are in with my music files. I don't see how I can move the files in with my other audiobooks. can someone tell me how to move them?

    Hi
You should change media type from music to audiobook. You will not be able to do this with match turned on.
    Options -
turn off match and make change or
delete books and rerip, changing media type before import or
delete from library and cloud, keep file, readd book and change media kind before match scans your library.

  • How can I add mp3 files to my audiobooks section on my ipod?

    Hi guys,
I'm new to itunes and very frustrated with how difficult the program makes it to move files around. What am I missing?
I have a couple different books in mp3 format that I have on my ipod currently as a playlist but when I turn shuffle on it mixes them in with my music. I want to put them into my audiobook directory but it won't seem to let me drag and drop or anything.
    Could someone please advise?
    thanks

    So to summarize:
To create an Audio Book from an MP3 collection in iTunes version 8
    Highlight the collection of files
right click - then select "Get info" on these tracks.
Go to the Options tab and under Media kind, select Audiobook.
If they don't appear as a directory in the Library
    Edit (menu)
    Preferences
    General tab.
Check the box next to "Audiobooks"
Thanks to those who provided the information.
It would appear that this question has been answered !!
    Tick Audiobooks next to Show:.

  • Need mp3 file recognized as audiobook in iTunes

I create large mp3 files (3 hours and more) that I want to listen to on my phone BUT every time I exit the file it starts over again at the beginning (like a song does) when I come back to it.  I want these files to behave like an audiobook that holds my place until I return.  Anybody know how/if I can do this?  My audio editing software will save what I create in other formats (like WAVE, AAC and AIFF - whatever those are).  Will any of these work?  Thanks guys.  Linda

I have the same issue.  I tried the suggestion and actually used this method in the past all the time.  Since starting IOS 8, though, the audiobook will show up in the mp3 audiobook section of the iPhone 5 music player, but when you click it the program crashes.  It works fine if you keep it in music, but will not remember it's spot or move on automatically to the next chapter as it used to do un audiobooks.  Other suggestions?  Thx

  • Audiobooks: m4b file size and audiobook length.

What is the recommended setting for m4b audiobook files. I think I read somewhere that you should not make an audiobook longer than 5 hours. I have been trying to use that as a rule of thumb, however I have some that I made using, http://www.splasm.com/audiobookbuilder/ (nice app), that are stopping in the middle and skipping back to the beginning of the book. Is that a file size problem or a problem with the ipod???

    Hello,
    1. Currently you can only preview files up to 20MB in size. Larger files need to be downloaded to be viewed.
    2. Uploading large files may be restricted by your browser. Most browsers have a limit of 2GB. Due to this restriction, the default maximum file size upload is 2GB. However, the instance administrator can change this. From the service console, go to Administration->System-Wide Settings where, among other things, you can change the allowed file types and up/download maximum size. Obviously, given the browser limitations, uploading a 4GB file (say) would have to be done another way. One way would be to install the Desktop Client on your system which synchronizes content (you choose which folders to keep synced) and then drop the file into your 'My Oracle Documents' folder which is your sync home. In the background, the client will chunder away synchronizing the file.
I'm not aware of file/directory name length limitations, but I'm sure there must be some. I'll try to find out.
    Regards,
    Frank.

  • How to get files into the Audiobook directory

Audiobooks have to be in M4B (protected AAC) format to appear in the audiobooks category on an iPod. If you convert them to AAC from MP3 using iTunes, find the converted version (which will have the extension .m4a) and rename it .m4b (if you can't see the extension in My Computer in XP, you'll need to select "Tools," "Folder Options," "View," then uncheck the option that says "Hide extensions for known file types"). Then drag it to your iPod in iTunes. Keep in mind, transcoding it to AAC means a possible (although likely negligible) quality loss -- I listen to audiobooks in the car, so I don't really notice a difference (or much of one.)

  • Making mp3 files show as audiobooks in iTunes 7

iTunes 7 seems to recognised SOME of my audiobooks correctly and put them in the right library category. But most of them are still in the music library. I wouldn't care, but in some cases there are some chapters of the same book in one section and some in the other.
Is there a way to move a group of tracks into the Audiobook section so they can all be together?
    Thanks.

  • Audio file interpreted as audiobook

iTunes seems to be trying to interpret a particular song in my library as an audiobook (the overlapping-squares icon appears next to it) - consequently, it won't play at all. The song is 'What Goes On,' by The Beatles, if that matters. I'm unable to re-download the song, as neither it, nor any other of my Beatles tracks, appear in the cloud. I'd greatly appreciate any help in resolving this matter

  • Is there anyway to convert a mp3 file to an audiobook the iPod itself without iTunes?

I have an iPod touch 5th gen with iOS 8.1.3 (I think)... I know you can do it in itunes but for various reason I can't get to a computer for awhile... So I was wondering if there was a way to do it on the iPod itself

    No, there isn't.

  • How Do I move a file to Audiobooks?

I downloaded some audiobook files from Limewire....they are just in my musicand not in the Audiobooks section. How do I move or rename them so they appear in there? Thanks

Nevermind I figured it out. For those who don't know and +would like to see this question answered+:
Select the file or file set folder. Select 'get info'. Select 'options'. Change file type to audiobook. It also seems helpful to select 'remember position' and 'skip when shuffling'.

  • Cannot find backed-up itunes audiobook files.

On my previous mac I downloaded a bunch of Audiobooks from the iTunes store, and was able to go into my itunes library files and put audiobooks on a flash drive. I recently had to get a new mac, and I took all of my files (including my iTunes folder -- which shoul dhave my audiobook files in them since I found them there before, right?) and transferred them to my extrernal hardrive. Now that I have a new mac, I am trying to find on my external hard drive where all of my audiobook files went, and I can't find them anywhere. I know that you can't download audiobook files again, and I'm really confused by the new itunes layout--so I'm not trying to go poing around in fear that it will automactically somhow delete everything. Even though I can't find these individual audibook files in my itunes folder, would it still have the files in the files marked "ituneslibrary.itl" or "itunes music library.xml"?

If the audiobooks are still available in your iTunes app, select one to do a Show in Finder by pressing command + shift + R. A window will open showing the audiobook file's location on the disk drive.
