Files being erased from iPod

When I first got my iPod, I synced it with my dad's computer and then I went to my mom's and synced it again with my computer. When I ynced it with my computer all of the files that were already on it from syncing it with my dad's computer were erased. Is there any way of syncing my iPod with two computers without the files from the other computer being erased?

You have to set it for manually managing the ipod.

How can I retrieve desktop files being erased after updating my computer?

The easiest method would be to restore them from the last Time Machine backup made just prior to the update.
Or use a file recovery application to recovery them.  Most have a demo mode so you can determine if it can find the files you need before purchasing it.  Go to MacUpdate.com and do a search for "recover files" to get a list of potential candidates.

  • Approx 700 Files being deleted from file server (server 2003) without permission

    Hello,
We had a problem with files being deleted from our file server.
We lost approx. 700 files across approx. 40 directories from the file date codes between Nov. 30 2014 and Dec 3, 2014. All files before this date were not touch.
Our Dec. 1 backup had all of the files. Our Dec. 5 backup only have files before Sept. 1 2014 and after Dec. 3, 2014.
My question is how can this happen without going to each directory and sorted my date cade and delecting files from this date range.
Does anyone have any other ideals on how this could of happen?
    Thank You

  • HT1386 Will apps and/or music be erased from iPod if synced to a computer other than orginally used?

Will apps and or/music be erased from iPod if synced to a computer other than original one used?

    Yes. To avoid that:
    - Transfer iTunes purchases to the computer by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer
    - Transfer other music by using a thrid-party program like one of those discussed here:
    Copy music
    - Connect the iPod to the computer and make a backup by right clicking on the iPod under Devices in iTunes and select Back Up.
    - Restore the iPod from that backup.
The computer will now be your syncing computer in the future. Note that the backup that iTunes makes does not include synced media like apps and music.

  • Songs erased from ipod

my ipod froze, and then after i reset it, all the songs were gone. this happened once before, and that time after resetting it a second time, the songs came back. no luck this time, and the songs aren't saved on i tunes. any help is greatly appreciated!!

Help - My songs erased from my ipod and my itunes list - one of two things happened here - I am hooked up via cable internet through adelphia, on the day this all occurred, my internet was down, our TV was on the fritz - when I contacted Adelphia, I was advised that they had to do work in my area, however, he advised that it had been corrected and there really was no reason why I should not be on line - he took me through some steps and had me unplug the line from my computer out of the cable modem and into the Linksy router - I now have one blue telephone/cable plug that was unplugged from the router just hanging out there -I was then able to get on the internet, however, when I did, my itunes library was empty and when I go went into my music file (under documents)and pull up my library, it comes up as empty - I never backed up my computer, it is a home computer and because I am ot really not exact;u computer savy, I don't know what the heck I'm doing - the I-pod itself tells me that it only has the 13 songs on it that I just downloaded to it for sanity purposes yesterday, otherwise, all of my memory is free and clear - all songs and itunes are lost and all library and specialty library's are empty. I tried to reset it and this did nothing.
One of my main questions would be will itunes resend me the songs that I had downloaded to them and will I have to pay for it? Doesn't itunes have a back up of my library and can't they sail them back into my computer for re-download? I cannot find a telephone number or e-mail address/link to actually get person to answer my questions.
Please help me - I am so upset over this - I just got done spending over $300.00 in new music from itunes, I am so so upset.

  • Compress video files for email from iPod

I manage an ipod Lab for an intensive English school. We want students to be able to email themselves larger audio and video files from directly from the iPod without having to go through iTunes/iPhoto. We often run into the problem with files being too large to email and are wondering if there is some sort of compression app that we can install on the iPod that will let us compress large files down for email. Something like ESFileExplorer for Android.
    Thanks,
    jHart

Video and audio files are almost impossible to compress with a separate general-purpose compressor application. Such compressors just don't work with the way video and audio files are structured and usually make a video or audio file larger, not smaller; they can't shrink the file size and just add unnecessary overhead. The only effective way to shrink a video or audio file is to re-encode the file with a lower bit rate, smaller frame size (for videos) or both. I don't know if there's any app on the iPod that can do such re-encoding, and even if there is, unless these videos and audio files are quite short, it's probable that they can't be shrunk enough to get through most email systems which usually have very low attachment sizes allowed, often on the order of 10 to 20 megabytes maximum.
A cloud-based storage solution such as Dropbox may be the only practical solution, though I'm not sure what video and audio apps would support saving to such as service. Someone else here may be able to offer suggestions.
    Regards.

  • File transfers (photos) from iPod to Powerbook

Hi all-posted this as well in iPhoto...not sure best place to have it addressed:
I recently used my iPod as a hard drive (as I needed my logic board replaced) so I transferred all my files onto it. Now that I'm transferring my files back to my Powerbook G4, I'm struggling to get all my pictures back into iPhoto. I've read thru many posts on this topic and am still struggling. I dragged my iPhoto library (from iPod) onto iPhoto window and it tranferred my pics (and then some!!). It seemed to make duplicates of all of them, some of which were of poor quality. But, my albums (about 10 of them) were not imported. Can I import my albums? Or do I have to create new ones with my pics again? Thanks in advance.
    Dino

    Dino,
I can't say for certain, but here's my somewhat-educated guess.
You successfully made a copy of your entire iPhoto library onto your iPod. All good. This copy contains your photos as well as the album contents, etc.
But when you copied everything back to your Mac by dragging that iPhoto folder from your iPod, the results were confusing. Technically, they're correct, but it's not the result you wanted. Basically, you told iPhoto to take the backup folder, find each image inside, and add it to a new iPhoto library on your computer. So your photos were added to iPhoto, but so were the thumbnail images that iPhoto generated the first time around (those are the low-quality photos you see now in iPhoto). And since the drag-and-drop step only copied your images, it makes sense that your album data did not migrate over.
What I would suggest it the following:
    - on your Mac, start by quitting iPhoto, then find your iPhoto directory and rename it (do not delete it! just rename it). Should go from "/Users/you/Pictures/iPhoto Library" to something like "iPhoto Library unused"
    - then drag a copy of the backup iPhoto folder from your iPod to your Mac through Finder (iPhoto is still not running).
    - on your Mac, name that copied folder to the same name that the original iPhoto Library was named. So it would be under "/Users/you/Pictures/iPhoto Library"
    - start up iPhoto and see what's what. If things worked, iPhoto will still know about your albums and other photo settings.
If this didn't work, I would say it's probably a better use of your time to just manually rebuild your iPhoto library (delete the junk quality images, and recreate your albums by hand).
    Hope that helps,
    Kaan

  • How to move all music files and pictures from Ipod nano to a new Windows computer that was not backed up on an external harddrive, only found on my ipod.

My windows lap top was recently destroyed to the point of no recovery.
All of my music and picture files are still located on my ipod and I plan on getting a new windows laptop
Is there anyway that I can transfer my (unpurchased) music files and pictures from my ipod nano to my new computer?
The pictures are more important that the music, so if only one is possible, I would prefer that
I appreciate any ones helpful comments

Copy the iTunes library from your backup as below:
iTunes: How to move [or copy] your music to a new computer [or another drive] - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527
Quick answer if you use iTunes' default preferences settings:  Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive.  Start iTunes with the option (shift on Windows) key held down and guide it to the new location of the library.
    Sync with the restored library.

  • Restore files to HD from iPod

In the process of upgrading to WIN7 and loading a new iPod, I had my files perfectly transferred and organized. I then went to copy the HD files to an external for a backup copy and lost a huge chunk of music! Can I copy the files on the iPod and paste them back onto the new laptop or an external?

Not sure how you lost music, or how you did this

You can try a 3rd-party ipod manager program. This is an old list, but will give you a start on researching it

  • Computer with main library crashed. How do I transfer all files from ipod onto new computer without them being erased on ipod?

The hard disk on my laptop which contained my main i-tunes library crashed. I want to make sure I have a backup of my music and apps on a different computer. How can I transfer the music and such from my ipod touch to the new computer without erasing everything on my touch when I try to sync it? Do I just have to start over from scratch? Alot of my music is copied over from my cd collection.

There are a number of third-party apps which will allow you to copy media from an iOS device into a computer's iTunes library. A popular one is Senuti; there are others which are free.

  • All songs erased from iPod, still located on i Tunes

I recently deleted some songs from my iTunes. I then deleted the playlist "iPod selection" where songs that went on my iPod were located. I can't seem to get the songs currently on my iTunes to download onto the iPod. Tried to follow the directions on the support page but cannot locate the "Summary" tab. How can I manually put the songs from my iTunes back onto the iPod.

*Tried to follow the directions on the support page but cannot locate the "Summary" tab*
Connect your iPod to your computer. It should be appearing in the source pane which is the long pane on the left of the iTunes window where you see the icons for Movies, Music, Playlists etc. When you connect your iPod it should appear under the heading "Devices". Devices is only visible when an external source such as your iPod or a CD is mounted. Click on the iPod icon to highlight it, the will bring up the preference tabs in the main pane to the right, Summary is the very first tab.
*I then deleted the playlist "iPod selection" where songs that went on my iPod were located.*
You get this problem when the option 'Sync Music - Selected playlists' is being used to sync your iPod and then the playlist it has been updating from is deleted. Most people use this setting when the iPod is smaller than the iTunes library. If your library is larger than the capacity of your iPod, iTunes by default makes a new playlist called something along the lines of "Owner's iPod". If you for any reason delete it, you will not be able to sync your iPod.
Open iTunes and create a playlist to update your iPod from, call it -iPod to make it the first playlist in Sources. You can make it a smart playlist that picks the songs for you or just a normal one and drag whatever content you want to have into the playlist. If you are making a smart playlist limit it to just less than the size of your iPod (for example 3700MB for a 4G iPod Nano. Now connect your iPod and when it appears in the Source list click on the iPod icon to bring up the preference tabs in the main pane. Go to the Music tab and choose Sync Music and the Selected playlists radio button. Choose the playlist you just made from the selection and click Apply. You can also sync from any existing playlists by choosing the same setting, you just need to make sure that the size of the playlists don't exceed the capacity of your iPod:
iTunes: Creating playlists of your favorite songs
How to create a Smart Playlist with iTunes
To make a random playlist go to File>New Smart Playlist.
    Uncheck "Match the following rule"
Check "Limit to" put "3700" in the number box, choose "MB" from the first list box, choose "Random" from the next list box. Check "Live Updating"
When you want to change the selection in the smart playlist just delete everything in it and it will add a new selection. When you want to change the normal playlist just delete out what you don't want and drag in a new selection.

  • Sync files to computer from iPod after hard drive crash

My main hard drive crashed that had all of my music. I'm guessing only a few sectors failed since I was able to recover 95% of my music library but all of my songs had since been transferred to my 64gb gen 5 iPod touch. So now I want to pull all of my music off of my iPod and compare it to the songs I was able to recover (I have already added the recovered songs to itunes).
My problem is that when I sync my iPod I don't see any music at all. When I first connect the iPod it doesn't even show any audio files on the device but when I backup the device it shows the correct size amount for the files (24.88gb). Even though the bar at the bottoms shows that I have 24.88gb of audio files nothing is shown when I click on Music under my device. *** is going on here. I refuse to believe that I can't get the songs FROM my iPod.
Any help here would be much appreciated

  • All songs erased from ipod and itunes

I'm trying to help a friend and learn in the process. When he turned on his ipod all the songs were gone and when itunes was opened to see about putting the 3000+ songs back on to the ipod the library had disappeared as well. He said he hadn't done anything, and he didn't back up any of the music. Is there anyway to rescue all of these songs from either itunes or the ipod? We bought and ran a program called Recover My Ipod, but it didn't work and I'm not to sure about it's reliability. Any help at all would be great it's windows xp.
      Windows XP

Don't give up on looking for the songs.
You can use Explorer to search your computer for missing songs.
On the Start menu, click "Search".
    Select "All Files and folders".
In the "All or part of the file name" field, type the song name and then click "Search".
If you see the file you are looking for in the Search Results window, you can add it back into your iTunes library.
See: How to add songs from your hard drive to iTunes.
If they truly are gone from both the iPod and iTunes, have a read of this post which offers some hope.

  • Restoring music file in iTunes from iPod classic

I have an iPod classic and had it connected to an HP laptop that was subsequently infected by a worm.  I still have all of the music, unaffected by the worm, on the iPod.  Can I easily upload files from my iPod to the empty itunes music library

Using 3rd party software there is a way (if you search on this forum you'll find it).
The point I was making about the back-up drive is that it's cheap (less than $100) to back up your entire iTunes library to an external drive just in case something like this happens.
A couple years ago I spent a lot of time importing my entire CD collection into iTunes (over 1400 CDs/24,000 songs) and my friend asked me how I was backing these up. I replied that I wasn't since I had all the original CDs. He was thinking about the lost time to restore rather than the lost songs and I realized he was right. I bought a bigger hard drive than was in my computer and now my entire iTunes library is backed up on that drive.
So, it's definitely worth it to buy an external drive for iTunes back up.

  • When i sync to mac all my purchases got erased from ipod

when i purchase music from my ipod in the wifi itunes store the next time i sync it to my computer it gets erased, it doesnt even transfer anywhere, its completely gone, and i bought over $40 worth, and its all just gone. this has happened before but i didnt pay attention to it and i bought a same album again, and when i went to purchase it it said to me are you sure youd like to buy this you already have before and i said ok.
i cant just look past this one guys, i lost alot of music and money. there has to be somehting i can do
please help me and tell me whatever you can.
even someone to contact. i dont know...
    thanks a bunch,
    Hayley

First off you need to figure out how you are erasing the music. I say "you are erasing the music" because it's very unlikely that its just disappearing. Make sure you are signed into the same account in itunes (top right hand corner of the main itunes store screen) as you used to purchase the music on the ipod. Next make sure you are signed into the same account on the computer. How are you syncing the ipod with itunes, manually, automatically, only certain playlists? After you figure out whats happening with your music you could contact apple at http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/store/browser/ from what I've heard they will sometimes allow you to redownload any purchased music ONCE, so decide on whether its worth it or not at this point. Finally always backup any purchases you make to a seperate location!
