Files compressed for Apple TV to iphone?

I have a bunch of files in itunes for use with Apple TV.
When I try to import them into iphone I get a message that the files can not transfer.
So I have to open the file in QT and export it out as an iphone file.
Then I have to bring the new file into itunes and sync to phone.
But now I have two files of the same program.
This seems silly and is confusing.
Is there any way around this? Or any way to have one file that can be synced to any Apple device?

  • Compressing for Apple TV

I have a question for you video compression gurus out there: I am living in Norway, and we always make video in 25 fps (PAL) or 25 fps/50 fps (HD). I have created several animations with the excellent software ArtMaticPro (from U&I Software), and I have chosen the format 1280x720 25 fps with no compression (Animation). - And here is my question: When I compress these animations with either Compressor, QuickTimePro or VisualHUB to MPEG4 H.264 25 fps, some of the animations are stuttering. If I open the compressed MPEG4 file in QuickTime and use the cursor to move one frame ahead at a time, I can see that the same image has been used in two continuos frames a few places. When I play back the H.264 file on the AppleTV, this freezing effect is very visible and of course irritating! I have to mention that I have set the max datastream below 5 mbps (as is required), and there is absolutely no timecompression used.
In Apple's podasttechspecs it is stated that the format for the AppleTV should be 960x540 and 30 fps when the source video is 1280x720 and 30 fps. There is no specs for my source video (1280x720 25 fps). - What should I choose? 960x540 and 25 fps? Someone suggested that I should keep the frame rate no higher than 24 fps, but I don't understand this argument.
What I am really looking for, is a professional guide that I can use in order to get the most out of the source material (1280x720 25 fps Animation) when converting to HD and the AppleTV.
    Any help is very welcome!

Thanks for the reply! So what you are saying is that the AppleTV is designed to play back 960x540 when the frame rate is 25 fps (like it is on my videos)? I'll try that.
However, the problem must be in the conversion process. My problem goes a little deeper, because I need to convert my animations videos before I import them into FinalCutPro6. FCP6 is not able to play back video in Animation (no compression). Most them are not even visible in FCP6 (only black image in both Browser and Canvas). However, if I play them back in QuickTimePro, they play perfectly for three-four seconds, then the data rate is obviously too big for my MacBookPro 2.33 Intel Core 2 Duo with 3 Gbyte RAM, and the image will freeze. - I am looking for a method to convert from Animation to a compressed format that I can use in FCP6 without loosing too much of the quality. Any suggestion?

  • File sizes for Apple photo book service

If I use Apple print services to print a photo book, will they accept TIFF-16 bit photo files?

If you create a photo book and use 16-bit tiffs, these will be converted in the pdf file, that is sent to Apple, so it should not matter.
But you can try for yourself. Just create a dummy book, include some fo your 16-bit tiff, click "buy book" and on the next page select "Preview Book".
Then inspect the preview pdf-that will be created - when I tried this with a book that contained several gigantic 16-bit tiffs (each 200 MB) the resulting book had only 40 MB. So the tiffs had been compressed considerably.

  • Ipad makes network/home sharing available for Apple TV2 and iphone

I've always had issues using home sharing on my Apple TV2; it would often tell me i needed to turn on home sharing on my desktop even though it was on.  Ususally restting the router and restarting iTunes would resolve the issue.  I would have to do this everytime i tried to play something on my Apple TV2 from my desktop.  THen i got an iPad 1 and it could find the shared folder instantly, when it would find it, it would all of a sudden make the Apple TV2 find my desktop (sometimes the Appl TV2 would hang there for 15 minutes searching for the desktop, i would go to videos on the iPad, and then "bang" the Apple TV would work).  I just got an iphone 3gs and upgraded to iOS 6 (had the following issue with iOS 5, too) and when i go to the video app it is blank and says there are no videos on my iphone with a button for the store at the bottom.  One time i hit the header reading "Videos" at the top and all of a sudden it listed which libraries i wanted to access, iPhone or Shared.  Couldn't get that to happen again until just now i started the trusty old iPad and pointed it to the shared folder and all of a sudden my iPhone showed me the shared location again.  Is there a way to access the home sharing network consistently without having to bot up the iPad everytime, especially on tyhe iPhone where there isnt a real location for doing this as far a I can tell.  Everyone always refers to the old "iPod" app before they switched it to "Music" and would say you go to "More" and selected "Shared" but those options arent avaiable anymore.  Thanks.

Follow up:  It appears to have been caused by the Bose system.  We have multiple areas that can be controlled by the Bose console.  Playing another area (outdoor speakers) via one source (satellite) was interfering with playing the Apple TV in the den on the television.  Apparently.

  • File compression for Mac

I have been looking everywhere for a utility that actually compresses a file, not just making an archive. I am looking for a program that can compress files in the .zip format; is there such a program made?

Music files are already compressed and therefore you will not gain much from trying to compress them. Data can be compressed easily with savings of 50% or more depending on the type of file.Stuffit is the most widely known in the mac arena.

I was just referring to the visual graphics (you know, the fireworks, stars and other stuff that reminds me of the 70's....) that you can play on the screen when iTunes is playing music?

  • Maximum bitrate and size for Apple TV3

    Hello,
how much is maximum bitrate and file size for Apple TV3 homesharing? I transfared some bluray, but it lags. Im streaming via cabble.

No official answer on this but specs say:
    Video Formats
H.264 video up to 1080p, 30 frames per second, High or Main Profile level 4.0 or lower, Baseline profile level 3.0 or lower with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps per channel, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats
MPEG-4 video up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats
Motion JPEG (M-JPEG) up to 35 Mbps, 1280 by 720 pixels, 30 frames per second, audio in ulaw, PCM stereo audio in .avi file format
AppleTV 2/3 have less than 8GB of memory to buffer movies but there are movies over 8GB and I've certainly streamed larger than that.
    What lags?  Playback?  Stuttery display?

  • Mavericks problems now SOP for Apple upgrades?

Up until a year or so ago I have always found Apple upgrades to be relatively straightforward. Maybe a few peculiar issues related to the particular setup of my Mac - sometimes the laptops would have an issue sometimes my iMac - but in general a few minutes tweaking would sort it out.
However Mavericks seems to continue a trend started by iOS 6 and strongly continued by iOS 7, that upgrades that cause so many problems that they are unworkable. I am beginning to think this malaise has become the new norm for Apple. My iPhones have become subject to frequent BSOD and now Mavericks is one of the worst "upgrades" I have ever seen. My Smart Mailboxes are a complete mess. My general mailbox is not as I would wish to see it and in particular my Gmail accounts are trashed. How did this get out of Cupertino? Did anyone bother testing with anything that might be used in the real world, like Gmail?
I've rolled back to Mountain Lion and will await a proper release of Mavericks.
But be warned Apple - I (and I reckon many more  former Apple fans too) am not prepared to put up with the shoddy upgrades much longer. My friends/colleagues tell me how wonderful MSFT has become and how the lessons of the Windows era have been learnt - not sure I quite believe it, but it does seem Apple is intent on following a similar catastrophic learning path when it comes to upgrades.

I'm happy for you Barney but certainly from my perspective I do not agree that the past year's upgrades have been "nothing different". A short overview of this community will show that there are major issues for many people.
When you move from being a computer user's platform of choice to mass market (as Apple has clearly done) there is a lot more care required with upgrades.
I do not want a platform which needs tweaking after every upgrade - especially if all my applications are downloaded from the Apple App Store. I have an expectation that Apple has ensured these apps are compatible across upgrades or I am notified that they are not.
If you want to sell a premium product then it needs premium upgrades not poorly validated ones.
Smart Mailbox is a premium OSX feature and it is not working at all after this upgrade. I can see all the messages sitting on the servers but Mail refuses to list them in the SM. That is not a Gmail issue it is an Apple Mail issue and a pretty simple issue to check. And yes of course I've carried out all the rebuilds to try to recover the SMs but no avail. I'm nor trying Mavericks on a backup machine to see if it works any better with that but my working machines are staying on Mountain Lion for now.
You are fortunate your iOS devices work, certainly out of the 4 iPhones (2 5s and 2 4s) and 2 iPads I have here, the 4's and iPads work fine but the 5s are BSODed. Same app suites on the iPhones so that strikes me as a compatability issue.
Anyway my point remains valid - for 6 years since I changed all my laptops and desktops to Apple I have had no issues with any upgrade. Now in the past year I have issues with iOS and now with OSX.
    There is a problem

  • How to keep iphone wifi on for Apple TV but only use phone data to stream

As crazy as it sounds, our Internet Service Provider has now limited our home data usage but my iPhone data is unlimited. We have an Apple TV that we usually stream video through (Netflix, movies, etc.) but that uses our home wifi data. Is there a way to connect my iPhone to our Apple TV and make it use my phone's data instead of the wifi data? I really don't want to create a separate network for both of them since it won't be connected to the Internet for other things and when I'm not there. We also would like to keep our ISP since it is the fastest around with the least amount of service interruptions.

    Hi Atagahi,
Firstly, have you emailed Apple iTunes support indicating your issue? There have been instances in which Apple will allow re-downloading of all content you've purchased on the iTunes store.
Secondly, I highly recommend you get an external usb hard drive, attach it to your mini and use it as a Time Machine drive to keep your iTunes purchases safe. It's a fact of life that all hard disk drives will eventually fail. The Apple TV should never be used as any kind of permanent storage space; think of it as a 'temporary holding' zone. And as you've unfortunately already experienced, a glitch wiped out all content on the Apple TV.
As regards your original question, it seems like there have been folks who've done just that...taken the internal drive in the Apple TV out and attached it to a mac and copied files from the Apple TV hard drive. I have not had to do such, so I cannot offer any help here except for Linda's suggestion on googling the net for solutions.
Good luck and hope you get all your purchased content back Atagahi!

  • Can i have a smaller file size for songs that i put on iphone vs mac

i have ripped a lot of my cds  to itunes on my MBA. i used the aac high quality setting.
is there a way that i can upload lower quality/smaller size versions of the songs that i will put on my new iphone ?
Q2: once i rip cd into itunes (on my MBA)... is there an easy way I can  later decide to save space and re encode them at 128 instead of 256 (for example).
i notice that you cant just willy nilly copy/delete from the itunes media folder because itunes doesnt seem to 'refresh' with the new files.
    thx!

    1. the ONLY place i see where you can set the sampling rate, etc  is under preferences/general/'when a cd is inserted"....    am i missing something?
    No.
    2. when i want to add an existing mp3 file (from outside the apple realm) , i am using itunes "add to library" and browsing to some mp3 file(s) . it doesnt give me a option to convert it to an m4a format... it seems to just add it to the itunes library without changing the mp3 file ....    do i have any option here?
You don't need to convert formats and I would not recommend you do so. You will simply lose quality.
    To answer your original question...
can i have a smaller file size for songs that i put on iphone vs mac
If you want smaller files on the iPhone, see my post above which converts them when syncing to theiPhone.
If you really want to convert when adding songs to iTunes...
iTunes prefs > General - Import settings as you want.
Hold Option (Mac) or Shift (Windows) and choose  File > Create New Version > Convert AAC (or what your settings are in previous step).
This will convert and add the file instead of adding the file then converting and having 2 of the same song in iTunes.
