Files damaged during firewire transfer

I've experienced file damage whilst transferring files between my iMac and MacBook via firewire. The MacBook was booted up in target disk mode and files were dragged from the iMac to the MacBook. Both machines have Intel processors and OS X v10.4.10. No error messages encountered. On two occasions image files (.NEF) were "damaged" on the destination machine. Files were OK in original location, but either would not open (eg: "Couldn’t open the file. It may be corrupt or a file format that Preview doesn’t recognize" or would open but would be damaged (portions of image with horizontal lines/missing parts) In these cases I was able to delete the damaged file and transfer it again, but I'm nervous about the integrity of back-ups, migrating to new machine, etc. via Firewire. Anyone have similar experience?

I wouldn't worry - if the moderators see a superfluous post, I think they will take care of it.
I would also (just in case) follow the recommendation to run repairs on both of your Macs (or at least verify the volumes, as actually recommended).
I would say that your problem is not 'common' but has occassionally happened to most of us. Transfering data to any other media involves moving millions or billions of bits of information. If there is an error rate of only 1 in a million in transmission - you can see the consequences.
However, if you're positing a situation where you plan to repeat the process (using Target Disk Mode) often - and you repeatedly encounter such errors, then there IS a problem which should be investigated.
From a more technical standpoint: I'm wondering if the .nef image file format may "turn out to be" one of those problematic formats which DO occassionally prove vulnerable to corruption. Only time (and lots more field reports) will tell.

HELP! brand new iMac froze during firewire transfer and won't start!!!

During my setup for my brand new iMac I follwed the directions and connected my iBook via firewire to transfer my files. I noticed after a while that my iMac was frozen on "45 minutes remaining" and the blue line wasn't wavering a bit, and after over half an hour it hadn't moved. I powered off the iBook, and still nothing happened to the iMac screen--it remained frozen. I went to the guidebook and nothing seemed to work, so I powered off and on again, only to get a flashing question mark. All this and I just bought the darn thing tonight!
Help! Anyone know what happened and more importantly how to fix it?

it sounds like the iBook went to sleep during the transfer or at least it's hard drive spun down.
what you need to know is hope that simply booting from your install DVD will let you repair the iMac's hard drive. You could also try booting holding down the Command S keys on startup and when you get to the Single User Mode command line prompt follow the directions there for running fsck to repair your hard drive.
Do you have a FW hard drive? Can you copy files from iBook to FW and then from there to iMac?
And, it is always nice to have a FW emergency/backup hard drive. The iMac needs a different partition scheme to be bootable from FW than the iBook does, but you can create the proper partition type etc from a Tiger Installer and put OS X on FireWire, then see if you can backup and repair your iMac's hard drive.
MicroMat's TechTool Pro 4.5.1 is now shipping and is compatible, Universal Binary and bootable. Always good to have some 3rd party utility handy.
If you are just starting out, you probably don't have much if anything installed yet, so you may want to just erase your iMac drive and restore to what it was. That would be the easiest if Disk Utility won't repair it.
Instead of powering off the iBook, I would have tried to force quit whatever was running, like Migration Assistant.

When I transferred files by firewire from a macbook to a macbook (snow leopard) I find some type of files in the finder of the newer mac. They look like
user files and appear to show network connections or something I do not recognize, I don't seem to be able to delete these files for some reason. Is there
any way short of formatting and starting over please??

The best method is to archive the contents of the TC to a disk.. archive is available via the airport utility.
Simply plug in a USB drive large enough to store all the material presently on the TC, 1TB or 2TB or 3TB.. whichever model it is.
Archive I have drawn red box around.
Once the archive has completed ..
Use the Erase disk.. just the Quick erase is ok.. takes a couple of min and then you have a nice empty drive to start loading TM backups on.

CS2 File Damaged and Could Not Be Repaired

We are a Windows XP shop that receives Illustrator files from customers and vendors. About a month or so ago we started getting a File Damaged and Could not be Repaired errors message when we would try and open Illustrator files received via email If the same file is sent via FTP we can open it.
If we forward the file to someone who has Illustrator 10 installed to open the file it works.
Any ideas?

Illustrator file corruption during transfer as an e-mail attachment can usually be avoided by placing files in a Zip or StuffIt archive before transmission.
As to corrupted files being readable in earlier versions of Illustrator, a possible explanation is stricter format standards checking in more recent versions.

Problems with File Transfers Over Firewire 800.
Over the past month, I have had problems when transfering files from my harddrive, over Firewire 800 to a portable drive. I usually transfer very large files (20gb or more) to the portable drives for moving files around. When I drag a file over to copy onto a drive, the transfer starts normally. If I drag more files to copy over, the computer screen goes darker and a large icon comes up that looks like a power button icon. It tells me to restart, so I have to do a hard shut down on my G5. Weird. I also get the dark screen of death sometimes when I am transfering those large files and open another application to do some work while it's copying. It's killing me. I am having to sit here and wait for the transfer to finish before I can do anything.
Any thoughts...

Have you run the Apple Hardware Test? Sounds like it could be a RAM problem.

Error "logical end of file reached during read operation"

I am trying to burn a dvd of a wedding I did, and this is the error I am getting. After 5 hours of it trying to burn when I click cancel this it says " logical end of file reached during read operation". Does anyone know what this means, and how I can fix it? I am anxious to get this wedding finished and out to the customer. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

How long is the wedding video?
My standard list of things to do first...
Run MacJanitor (free download) to do all the Unix Cron Maintenance scripts.
Run Disk Utility (Applications -> Utilities) and repair disk permissions on your start up drive (typically your internal drive). Also verify any other drives mounted on the system.
Run Preferential Treatment (free download) to check for corrupt/damaged application and system preference files.
Run Cache Out X (free download) to clear all system and application caches.
Reboot your Mac.
If you still can not get it to run correctly, next thing to try is to throw out the iDVD preference file (don't forget to change back those preferences you want different from the defaults next time you run it). If it still doesn't work, then I would suggest you reinstall iDVD.

AIR 1.5 Installer File Damaged(file size issue?)

I am trying to publish a large air destop app. I have been trouble shooting the error and this is what I have found:
1. When I publish it and i have less than 27mb of inculded files, it publishes and can be installed.
2. When I add another 1.5mb of included files, and publish it, flash starts to not respond then kicks back in and creates the air file.
2.1 When I try to install this file it says installer file damaged.

3. Thought it was the certificate so I created a new one and nothing.
3.1 I removed the time stamp and nothing.
3.2 I did an air intermediate file to be signed later and nothing.
My last thought is that my computer hardware is to slow and while it freezes during publishing, the air file gets messed up.
Anyone have any issues like this. Not sure what to make of it but I don't want to by a new computer if its not the above problem.

It took a couple days but I figured it out. I thought It was a problem with the size since I had about 900 images and sounds but it turned out to be an issue with how I name one single mp3 file.
I had "&" is the name. for some reason when I published the air it corrupted it.
I don't get it!

I recently purchased a MacBook Pro 15 inch after having had an iBookG4 for some time. I have had minimal prolems with the G4.
I transferred everyting over to the MacBook pro without any problems and started on the updates when it crashed and was in for repair right out of the box. It required a new Logic board. I have it back after 2 weeks and having it crash right out of the box I didn't previously see that on System Profiler that while all the hardware and software etc is all correct, the title still says that it is my iBook G4 and not the MacBook Pro.
I have called support and reloaded the operating disk,rebooted in "Safe mode" nothing has corrected the title.
Support does not know how to fix it.
Has anyone else run into this and is there a fix?

Try going into System Preferences --> Sharing. At the top of the Sharing window there is a place you can edit your computer's name. If you do file sharing, you'll need to deselect file sharing and then turn it back on after editing the computer's name.

Connection tone change to music during call transfer, how ?

I have a Unity express 6 with IVR license connects to Call Manager version 5,
and I have a AA script within the unity express 6 and works fine.
However, I want to change the connection tone to music.
For example:
Call in --> press 1 for sales, press 2 for support.
During call transfer user will hear do..do..do..
But I want Music instead of do..do..do..
Can I program on Cisco Unity Express Editor, and what step do I need ?
Can I change the ringback.wav file in call manager ?
Can I use other methond ?

Standard operating procedures. All about the Benjamins baby. Don't send a damaged phone for warrant claim if that's what happened file an ins. Claim or have it repaired.

Material damaged during transit

A material was damaged during transit to us from the vendor by the carrier/transportation company. The transportation company has agreed to pay us in full for the defective material.

then do transfer posting for scrap by 551 and then sell this scrap to transporter ( create it customer in sap)

Something strange happened to my Logic a couple of days ago - all of a sudden. When I start Logic up it gives me the following error message:
*Error reading/writing file “com.apple.logic.pro.cs”: Logical end-of-file reached during read operation.*
I have re-installed Logic, as well as updated it (8.0.2), I have repaired disk permissions in Disk Utility, and it still keeps popping up. I cannot get on with my projects and I have deadlines!
I found an IT support site, according to that I don't have enough space on my HD. However, I do... I'm confused, and desperately need help.

I am not opening any files, just launching Logic.
I know. And when you launch Logic, it loads its preferences files - and it seems this is failing - most likely due to file corruption. So delete the file, as I said, and Logic should load fine.

Printing dunning notices using SMARTFORMS,error during parameter transfer

                I face a error message "Include text ZGA_DUN_HDR does not exist (object TEXT, ID ST)" when i run the dunning run.
                I had searched every node for text ZGA_DUN_HDR in the smartform,I didnt find the text in it.
However when I execute the smart form for print preview an error message "Printing dunning notices using SMARTFORMS,error during parameter transfer".This error i believe is due to wrong parameter passing in the fm 'GET_SF_DUNN_DATA'.It raises an error no_parameters_found.All parameters are passed correctly.
                Can you guys help me out.

For an excisable item it is a rule in indian localization whenever the goods leave the warehouse it has to carry a proper excise document. This is possible in case of a delivery. But how to manage this in case of stock transfer? When the excisable goods are transfered from one warehouse to another then a excise invoice is to be generated. How can this be managed in SAP Business One? Please suggest.I am using SAP Business One 2005B PL 41

This Functionality is not available in SAP 2005B.
As a workaround,
Create Journal Entry for Excise Duty & VAT
For Excise Invoice, create a seperare PLD in Inventory Transfer Screen
Note:
This feature of Excise Invoice generation during stock transfer is available in SAP 2007B

Could you please advise how to realize automatic goods issue for outbound delivery, during the transfer order confirmation in the WMS.
Now after creation of outbound delivery, i can't post the goods issue. Before i have to make the transfer order and confrim it and only after this i can post the goods issue in the VL02 t-code.
Could you please advise - what i have to customize that to make automatic GI for outb. delivery (i mean with creation material document) during the TO confrimation.
