Files "Deleted from Disk" not deleted

I was under the impression that this problem related to the appearance of "Ghost" drives (duplicate drives appearing in the LR after I edited a file. The folder duplications are no longer a problem in LR 2.1
HOWEVER, when I use the option "delete from disk" (vs. remove)these files are not getting deleted from my hard drive. They reappear on the next folder synchronization I run.
I am either asking for input on how to make deletions stick and/or requesting that Adobe look into this before releasing the release version of 2.1
Thanks - Kevin
System info:
LR 2.1
Windows Vista Home Premium
Quad Core PC with 4GB RAM
1 TB "RAID 5" system drives (4 of them make up the 1 TB)

Thanks for the suggestions but they didn't work:
1- Cleared preferences by hitting the various reset to factory buttons. Then closed and restarted LR. Is there another way to do this?
2- The foloder quantity goes down when I delete and goes back up when I synchronize
3- File manager shows the same number of files as LR BEFORE I delete and then shows more AFTER I delete. Then, after synchronizing they are back to equal.
Finally, I tried deleting a file in windows explorer to see its effect. It immediately showed as missing in LR. I synchronized and that file was deleted.
Any other ideas?

  • FCE Express is writing render files to startup disk not external hard drive

    Hi
I'm using FCE Express HD 3.5.1, with a MacBook Pro 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, with 2 GB memory.
I'm using a Lacie big disk extreme as my scratch disk, and FCE is set up to write all render files to this. However, I noticed that my startup disk was becoming full and realised that FCE is writing render files to the startup disk not the external hard drive.
    I've quit, shut down, etc...
Any ideas what is going on?
    Many thanks

Whenever FCE is behaving strangely, one thing to try is trashing the preferences. Here's how:

  • File created from ZipOutputStream not opening as Windows Compressed Folder

I create a file using java.util.ZipOutputStream using JDK 5. I can open the file in WinZip. But when I try to open as "Compress (zipped) Folders" in Windows XP, I just get an empty folder. Is there something I have to do other than creating a ZipEntry for each file? From WinZip, I can look at the files and extract them and everything seems to be fine including the folder structure.
    Thanks.

Make sure there are no invalid characters in folders or files stored in the zip file.
Windows does not allow the following characters in folder and file names.
    \ / : * ? " < >
Check your zip folder structure to see if it contains any of these characters.

  • File Name from JSP not shown although attached

    Hi all,
I have written a JSP to attach files. The file is attached and I can see the file size , but for some reason the file name does not show up. Any reason why?
My code in the JSP to attach files is:-
    <td><input id="attachment" type="file" <f:fieldName att="fileHolder.fileHolders.file"/> value="" ></td>
I have a JSP to attach a file and then a BPM presentation to show that file.
    Is that a problem?
    Do we need JSPs only?
The file size is also not a problem because the max. file size in studio is 5MB and I am running this code in studio and attaching files less than 5MB.
I have just copy pasted the JSP found at this location
    http://www.4shared.com/get/wuHzQ0fj/FileChooserDemo.html
    into my process?
It works in Dan's process but not in my process?
    Why is that so?
How can I get the name of the file attached in my process?

    Finally resolved the error..
It seems that file_filename is a KEYWORD and cannot be changed..
so the two attributes in the object should be of exact name to make sure your file is attached with the right file name.
    1) file
    2) file_filename
If we write fileName instead of file_filename, it will not work.
Where is the documentation on this?
Oracle BPM documentation really is bad.. They need to improve their documentation.

  • Guarantee read from disk [not cache]?

Is there a way to guarantee a read from a disk file rather than system cache? I am aware of the FileDescriptor.sync( ) method, but does this really work - and on all platforms? I am having my doubts. In the documentation, it seems that as long as a SyncFailedException is not thrown, the read is "sync'ed with" the device, which I interpret as "read from or written to" the device, but as I said I'm having my doubts.
Anyone have any knowledge in this area? It's very important that I know that my Java app will read directly from a selected file on disk (and write to disk when I tell it to), even if I repeat the action over and over again.
    I would appreciate comments/solutions.

Yes. I've done it both ways, with just the main thread doing all the work (completely write, then read back in), and then with two threads on a RandomAccessFile (one writing a file + one reading right behind it as it is being written)...

  • Files coming from photoshop not showing up in Lightroom

I suspect I have some setting goofed up, but I looked at preferences, and don't see which one............
In lightroom 5.3, I have some raw (.nef) images.  I assign them a keyword.  I open the set of images with that keyword (so, they all have the keyword).  Go into Develop, fiddle, then do an "edit in", and go to PS CC.  Make changes, then do a Save As, and save a .psd back to the same folder......
In the past, MY RECOLLECTION is that the .psd I just saved, would be stacked with the original .NEF, AND would show up in the group with the keyword.  With the current settings, everything works fine EXCEPT the .psd doesn't show up in the keyword group.  When I get back to Lightroom, still in Develop, there is 'NO PHOTO SELECTED".  If I go back to Library it is not visible in the keyword group.  If I EXIT from the keyword set, and display all the images, I can now see the .psd AND it has the keyword set, but it doesn't show up in the keyword group until I exit from the group, go back to displaying all the images, then go back INTO the keyword group.
And yes, I have "stack with original" set in the external editor preferences.
Is this normal behavior in 5.3, or do I have something set wrong?  'Cause it's really slowing things down having to constantly go back to library, exit the keyword group, and on and on...

Hi Rikk...  Just did a test.........
Opened the keyword group of files.  Grabbed a .nef.  Went into PSCC.  Made some changes.  Did a "Save As", saved a .psd and the file did NOT appear in the set of files in LR.  Opened the entire folder of files, and the .psd is there, so it got imported back into LR.  Went back into the keyword set and the .psd does not display.  The .psd HAS the keyword on it.  Opened the folder, removed the keyword and added it again to the .psd.  Went back into the keyword set and the .psd is there...........................................
THEN, I grabbed another .nef in the same keyword group, went to PSCC, made changes, and did a "Save As" as a .TIF.  Went back to LR and the .tif is displayed in the group just as it always has before.
Back to PSCC and saved the same file as a .psd.  Back to LR and the .psd and .tif BOTH appear in the group.
Grabbed a THIRD .nef and went through the same process, did a "Save As" for the .psd and THAT .psd NOW appears in the group just fine.
I have NO idea WHY it's working, but it didn't work prior to creating a tif, and it does work after creating a tif.  As near as I can tell, that's the only change since yesterday when it didn't work, and even after closing and reopening LR this morning, it still didn't work.  I'm reluctant to use the "since B followed A, A caused B", but it didn't work, it now works after doing a "Save As with a .tif".  Bizarre...
Mollysnoot - I don't think so.  for the last (way too many) years, I've ALWAYS used "Save As" because I append the word "edit" on any file that's gone through the full processing in PS.  It's always worked fine.  The file created does get imported, and has the characteristics of the original.  If the original had a green label and 3 stars and was picked and had a bunch of keywords associated, the psd also had a green label, 3 stars, was picked, and had all the keywords.  And it showed up automatically in the group of files displayed by on of those keywords...

  • DNG files exported from LR4 not showing changes made when opened in PSE10?

I have LR4, and once I make some develop changes I've been exporting the files I want to use as DNG.  I then open them in PSE10 to make final edits.  It's been working fine, actually I had an older version of Adobe Raw in my PSE on my other computer.  So when I opened in PSE it would ask if I wanted to conver to compatible version to edit in camera raw.  I always said no b/c I didn't need to do anymore raw edits.  Now that I have installed PSE on my new computer, it has the new ACR version I guess.  When I open the DNGs to edit now I no longer get this error message, but it's showing my contrast, etc. as a standard raw setting instead of the changes I made in LR.  Some are showing....like vibrance, but "recovery" which I know is "highlights" in LR, and other things are not showing correctly.  I know that the options are different, but I don't want to use the ACR settings that it's using when I open the file, or have to go through them again.  I'm sure there's something I'm missing but can't figure it out.  Thanks for any help!

I quite simply did not comment on the issue of "it is supposed to be better to keep DNG files as opposed to NEF files now, right?"
The issue you raised in your original post, and the issue of choosing DNG versus NEF, are completely separate and independent.
The issue of transferring photos to PSE would cause the exact same problems in your case whether or not you use DNG or NEF.
On the issue of converting photos from NEF to DNG, there are advantages and disadvantages, some people do and some people don't. If you'd like to know more, I suggest you search this forum, there are plenty of discussions on this topic.

  • STMS - transport .SAR file downloaded from SAP notes

    Hi,
I have download .SAR files from SAP Support Portal and have used SAPCAR.EXE to unpack it.
As the result, I have 2 files: K123110.L6B and R123110.L6B.
I copied these K123110.L6B to my DEV server \usr\sap\trans\cofiles
    and R123110.L6B \usr\sap\trans\data
I would like to transport it from DEV server to QAS server.
So, I logon on to DEV --> STMS, I clicked on the "Transport" logo,
then double click the DEV server.
Then, at the menu bar, I goto Extras --> Other Requests --> Add and
    enter Transport Request: L6BK123110
But, there is an error message:
<b>Transport control program tp ended with error code 0247

I guess I must miss out some steps, can anybody guide me?
I need to update the SAR file to my QAS server.
    thanks in advance.

    Hi,
Please send the files to ur Basis guy. they will upload it to the server.

  • Only Certain files on USB disks not recognized

    Hi all:
At first, my macbook was unable to recognize some files in 2 particular folders on my usb disks (Western Digital 250 and 500)... then, following an update, they now seem to be working fine.
Since, I have added a Windows XP desktop directly to the router (wired)... the Windows desktop will not read the information in the same 2 folders. You can see the folders and click on them, but the information inside the folders does not display... Other folders on the same disks work fine.
Both are disks are FAT32 formatted... the folders are large and contain videos.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks...

Many people seem to be having this problem. What seems to help is plugging in the disk into the AEBS and created a new empty folder. Then plug it into your windows machine. Copy everything that was in the root of the drive to that new folder. Plug it back into the the AEBS and everything should show up now. I know it is a pain in the ***, but this seems to work...

  • Skin control in swf file created from indesign not showing online

    Hi,
I used indesign cs5.5 interactive to create a swf file with embeded video and skin control.  When I view the video on my pc the video and skin control works but when I uploaded both the swf file and the skin control file  online to my client's server the skin control doesn't show. I suspect it has something to do with the path, is there somewhere I can specify the path to where the skin control is loaded online?
    Thanks.

Which file - the .swf or the .exe file?
If the .swf, you need to create a file association to the projector.

  • Merging and saving audio capture + file from disk

    Hi,
I need to combine an audio file (read from disk) with an audio capture from a microphone and save the combined audio to a file.
I created processors for both, merged the data sources and created a processor from the merged data source.
If I use that as an input to a player, it seems to play OK : I hear the combination of the audio file and the microphone over the speakers (albeit with a delay of the microphone input).
But when I try to save this merged processor's data source (I tried 2 different ways based on samples I found) I get the following exceptions respectively

Now that you've got as far as doing GUIs, you must learn to read the API. Here/s a link.
Is it something like: out.textBox.text() ??
Not quite. In fact, not at all. The syntax implies that out has a member textBox which in turn has a method text. That's pretty far removed from reality, isn't it?
From the code you posted, you apparently know that out.println(...) takes a String parameter. Now go look up the API and find a method of JTextField that returns a String, that Returns the text contained in this TextComponent.
    ^Hint: it's a method inherited from JTextComponent^
Get the text from the JTextField and pass it as a parameter to out.println. That's all there is to it.

  • LR2.3:  Question on Import from Disk / DNG conversion

Hi... I notice that when choosing FILE/ Import photos from disk" There are 4 choices under file handling
    1. Add photos to catalog without moving.
    2. Copy photos to new location and add to catalog.
    3. Move photos to a new location and add to catalog.
    4. Copy photos a Digital Negative (DNG) and add to catalog.
My RAW files are already on an external hard drive and organized in labeled folders so I wish to "Add photos to catalog without moving"... but I ALSO want to convert these RAW images to DNG files on import. What do I choose to apply the "add the photos to catalog without moving" AND at the same time convert those files from RAW to DNG files on import?
Will this add the newly created and imported DNG files into the existing folders alongside the original source RAW files?
Under import preferences / Import DNG creation, Is it best to leave the Compressed (Lossless) option checked or unchecked?
What's best for preview creation? Minimal or 1:1. I will not be working on many images at once so speed is less valuable than disk space.

Bennett, this is how I do it. Choose File/import from disk. Select raw images to import. Select last option, "Copy photos as DNG & add to catalog." Under "copy to", click down arrow, and browse to the folder containing original files. In the "Organize" window, select "into one folder" if you want them to be in the same folder as originals. Select "by original folders" if you want LR to put it in a sub-folder that it will name. Leave Compressed (Lossless) checked. There is also an option to re-name the files if you prefer. As for previews, Minimal will import much quicker, but LR will build larger previews later. I have tried it both this way, and importing as 1:1. I do not see much difference in working with files that were imported as 1:1 or minimal. LR seems to take about the same time to stop "working" on it before I can.

  • Cannot delete file from disk after emailling that file like attachment

After i send some file from disk in Mail like attachment i cannot delete that file from disk unless i quit Mail. Like Mail is still using a file. Of course, that mail is in Sent mail, not in outbox.

This deeper than that. I created another account on the same iMac and it works in Harmony with my other devices and Documents in the cloud. I can only imagine the icloud account is somehow corrupted (I am on my macbook not iMac at the moment). There have been no updates to the Calendar, Contacts or Documents since early January on that account. I have spent 1hr on the phone with support and they were baffled as well. Only thing I can gove as insight to the problem is this, I was on the Mac Mini which was backed up on Time Machine. about 4 or 5 months ago I had to completley restore the Mac Mini becasue of the never ending circle on the load screen. The Backup failed to work it kept loading the issue and 4 or 5 times the circle of death kept coming up I would subsequently wipe the Mini and go further back in the back up until I go a copy that worked.  I then loaded the Time Mache back up into my NEW iMac and wnet from there. It took about a month for this problem I am detailing above to start happening. It maybe a corrupt file loaded from the backup into the new iMac causing this problem. Best answer I can think of on my own???

  • Why when I delete photos (from disk) does it not clear space on my hard drive?

I went from 800  photos to 51 and my available HD space remains the same.  So in total I deleted about 750 20+MB files.  I should have more space free on my hard drive but there is nothing.  I make sure to choose "delete from disk" as opposed to just "remove" so I can't imagine the problem.  I even went back in and erased back ups in the lightroom folder wondering if maybe the images were hiding out there.  Deleting back up folders made nominal difference.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Rob,
You are right. It was GB not MB.  I am sure the disk I am looking at is the correct one.  I go to the apple, about this mac, more info, storage.  Unfortunately I just hit empty trash over and over without looking to see if the files made it in.  It has always cleared space before so I assumed it would this time.  I do think they made it as I always heard the sound of the trash clearing but I did not actually look for the files first.
I did a lot of research yesterday as to what could be going on and found an article that said time machine backs up locally on my HD and if I want space I can disable that.  I found the folder with the back ups and saw there were many.  I followed the tutorial online and disabled the back ups and now the folder is gone so you would think- more space.  Not one single GB was returned.
I ended up erasing music and photos from iPhoto and a few movies and space cleared when I did those things.  Still wondering what happened and want the other space back.  750 raw files is a lot of space, or should be.
Wondering if there is some back up to the back up somewhere.....
Thanks for responding .. I will take all input I can get!

  • Can I delete files from disk that I removed just from LR in error?

Hi, this is a really silly error.
I've just deleted 100s of raw files from lightroom, useless stuff that I should have deleted at the time but was too lazy to do so. Am now trying to purge all the rubbish and it's taking me days (it's from the last 3 years or so.)
This morning I just deleted several hundred images I went to empty the trash can and it's already empty and it's only then that I realise I've been just deleting the files from Lightroom and not from the disk. It's several hours work, is there any way I can now identify in the finder folder which images are not in LR, because these are the ones I want to get rid of for good. I don't want to keep them there taking up valuable memory space or restore them to LR and have to do it all again. Help!
    Any advice much appreciated.

    Mac OSX 6.3

    Emma,
    I would do the following:
    BACKUP YOUR CATALOG
Synchronize the folder(s) in question (possibly to top level parent folder)
    - Deselect "Scan for metadata updates" during synchronization
    - Select "Import new photos" during synchronization
Delete the photos ("Delete from Disk") just imported by Synchronize from within LR (from view "Previous Import") after each import (if it's more than one folder)
This should delete all the images not previously in your catalog but existing in your folder(s).
