Files dissapeared in Captivate 5.5

I am wondering if anybody experienced the problem where suddenly the Captivate project files, .doc , .mp4 disappear after PC restart from my project folder. I rebooted my PC several times during the project but suddenly it is gone. I also work on other projects on the same PC and the files are still there, even in the past it happened that suddenly a few files were gone. At that time I thought it was my mistake. Now projects files I worked on for three days are gone including all backup files from the same folder. Any ideas? How do you trust this program?

have you recently restored your registry on your windows computer? If so your computer goes back to the previous restore point of your computer

  • Adobe Captivate 4 files in Adobe Captivate 3?

Hi this might seem like a simple question,
Is it possible to open Adobe Captivate 4 files in Adobe Captivate 3?
    Thanks guys!

    Hi Manish
I tend to disagree with this. Think of Microsoft Office products. For example, Microsoft Word. Many folks have been accustomed to having the ability to use a newer version of Word to Save As an older version format which could then be easily edited on a different PC in the older version.
I can see a real use case for this capability with Captivate. Perhaps you have a large organization that has a multitude of Captivate copies. Most are on 3 and they cannot upgrade all PCs at the moment. So they add perhaps three licenses and all they are able to purchase are version 4. Suddenly you have a mismatch!
Something for you developers to consider.

  • Can we save file developed in captivate 4 to captivate version 3

Can we save file developed in captivate 4 to captivate version 3? If yes are there any issues?

Sorry, there is no backwards compatibility, you cannot save in format CP3 from CP4. Perhaps it is possible, if you have both CP3 and CP4 installed to copy slides from the CP4 to an blank CP3-file. As long as no new features of CP4 are present this could work.

  • Published EXE file Error-Adobe captivate 4

    Hi,
I'm having problems with publishing an EXE file in Adobe captivate 4. I know it has something to do with our internet browser settings, we are a Court location and we have strict settings, but I'm wondering if there are work arounds through adobe captivate. See error below:
-allowing active content such as script and ActiveX controls can be useful, but active content might also harm your computer. Are you sure you want to let this file run active content? Y/N
-Help protect security, internet explore has restricted this file from showing active content that could access your computer, click here for options.
If you just select yes and proceed the captivate file runs fine and you can complete the training. Our goal is to be able to publish in this format because it's more stable than the PDF or HTML option but we don't want users to experience this error from the start.
Thanks for helping with my questions!

Hi, I've been trying to attach an image for the error message we get but not matter what I do it gives me an error and won't let me attach the image. Any suggestions or do you have an email I can send them too. The error message may be a little different than what I sent previously, it seems to give a different error message on different computers. But we are currently trying to create a new release of our training program so this should be the most current error message and the error message people will see when they open it on their PC's. Anyway this is what it says:
    First Error Message:
    File Download-Security Warning
Do you want to run or save this file?
Name: BasicCORIS_AttachAnAttorney.exe (name of our file)
    Type: Application, 9.27MB
    From: C:/CourtsOnlineTraining\Program Files\Dist....
Run     Save     Cancel (we select run, than you get next error message)
While files from the Internet can be useful, this file type can potentially harm your computer. If you do not trust the source, do not run or save this software. What's the risk?
    Second Error Message:
    Internet Explorer- Security Warning
The publisher could not be verified. Are you sure you want to run this software?
    Name: BasicCORIS_AttachAnAttorney.exe
    Publisher: Unknown Publisher
    Run    Don't Run
This file does not have a valid digital signature that verifies its publisher. You should only run software from publishers you trust. How can I decide what software to run?
I hope this makes sense. Let me tell you a little more about how our training is set up. We load the training on to a USB stick that includes a menu, the training modules, and a shortcut. Once the USB is downloaded on to the users PC they can select a shortcut icon for the training. Once they select the training shortcut it opens a menu that they can select training from. When they select on the desired training this is when they would receive these error messages. Our current release is in a HTML format, but because of this format the training interacts with the web browser and causes us problems so we were hoping to publish in exe and the training wouldn't open in a web browser.
Let me know if you have further questions or if I've just confused the situation more. Again thanks for your help!

  • How to open an executable file from within Captivate

    Hi guys,
I wondered if any of you guys could help me...
I am using Captivate 3 and I have created a project in this and exported it as a standalone executable file.
Ideally I would like to link this to another standalone executable file exported from Captivate, so is it possible
to create a button in the first file so when it has been exported, if I click on this it opens up the second standalone file?
Thanks for your help in advance.
    br

I'm pretty sure that, for security reasons, the projector app that Captivate uses for stand-alone EXEs is sandboxed: you won't be able to access the API of the host operating system, so you won't be able to launch any apps.

  • Converting Oracle UPK files to Adobe Captivate

Hello, my company needs to convert Oracle UPK files into Adobe Captivate files. We are changing systems and we don't want to remake all of our training simulations again. Does anyone know of a software program that can convert upk files into adobe captivate files?(basically, dhtml(for upk) into swf(for captivate).
Also, I've read the captivate uses cptx and upk uses odarc, these would be the collection of individual files that make up swf and dhtml, respectively...I assume. Any converter for any of these files would be nice?

I've never heard of a converter to do this.  I hate to break the bad news, but if Captivate is your desired tool, then you'll just need to recreate your courses in Cp.

  • Illustrator files dissapear after saving files

    hi
we are all working on a network, mac computers all running mavericks. It started to happen few days ago that .ai files dissapear after editing and saving.
    any solution?
    Thanks!

    gonzalom,
It is always recommended here to open/save from/to own hard disk, and to copy from/to networks and removable media. You may be lucky (for a while), but the chances of file corruption and other unpleasantnesses are immensely greater when you use anything but the harddisk, and it is better to be safe than sorry.
In addition to the (far greater) risk of file corruption, some issues are mentioned here:

  • How do you make a video file acceptable to Captivate 7?

I tried to attach a video and although the video was an .mp4, Captivate wouldn't allow it.  I downloaded the FLV Converter, but it still won't accept the file.

    This is what I did:
    1.  I added a "Caption and Content Right" slide to my presentation,
    2.  Then I clicked the "Insert Video Object" link on the new slide, selected the video from my computer (by browsing to find it) and
    3.  Clicked OK and got the following error message:  Failed to load the video file.  The file path or URL may be invalid.
So I downloaded the FLV  Converter and converted my .MOV file to an .MP4 file and it still wouldn't load and I got the same error message.

  • Large file sizes in Captivate 4 to 5 conversion

I just upgraded from Captivate 4 to Captivate 5. When I open projects created in Captivate 4 and then resave them as Captivate 5 files (.cptx) the file sizes increase dramatically (e.g., 26,000 kb to 184,000 kb). I have deleted all unused objects and resaved, but the file sizes are still very large. Should I do something other than just opening them in Captivate 5?

    Hi,
We are aware of this issue and I assure you that we are already working on a fix for this.
Will it be possible to share your Cp4 file with me? I would appreciate if you can mail it to me at 'thejas at adobe dot com'
    Thanks,

  • Project file size bloats (Captivate 3)

Does anyone know what causes a project file to become disproportionately bloated? I was working on a file that was approx 200 MB, then imported some objects onto one slide from another project, and suddenly it jumped to over 300 MB (I even deleted all items in the library that weren't being used elsewhere).
I've noticed this phenomenon on more than one occassion. It seems to occur most frequently when importing objects or slides from one project to another.

    Hi there
The only way that I've ever seen a file size reduction in Captivate 3 was by performing the following steps:
Open a second instance of Captivate.
Create a new blank project sized identically to the other instance.
Switching between instances, copy slides from the bloated one and paste into the fresh one.
Save the new one and the file size is reduced.
    Discard the old one.
Note that you will likely need to re-establish any links you had.
Just a special note here about one of the things you tried. You said you exported to XML. I don't believe you are able to export to XML, then import from XML back into a new project. I believe the XML export works in a very similar manner to the Microsoft Word export. Only the project that exported it will be able to successfully re-import it. As I understand it, the XML export is especially designed for Captivate developers that need to localize (translate) their projects.

  • Playing MP4 files in published Captivate 6.01

Help!! I have added an MP4 file (7MB) to a slide using Captivate 6 and it plays fine in preview mode but not when I publish the project. I checked to make sure that I have all of the updates for Captivate installed. I am not using a media server as this is a proof of concept for a potential client and I want to just hand them the zipped file to run. There seems to be a lot of issues around this topic. But, I can't seem to see a resolution to this issue.

Please remove the mp4 and re insert it.
Go to Edit > Preferences > Project > SWF Size and Quality, uncheck Advanced Project Compression and Compress SWF File.
Publish the project and select Flash Player version 10.
Extract the zip output, paste that mp4 in the folder (if not present in the folder) and then re compress it again.
    Let me know the status
    Thanks

  • Publishing  files in Adobe Captivate

    Hello,
My product is actually Adobe Captivate, as the select your
product option is not working on your support portal, Im submitting
the case under Flash. Please feel free to redirect to the concerned
    department.
I am a technical writer and currently I need to create demos
of my company. I have created a demonstration file and I have used
skin on the demo (project>>skin>>BMP Playback>>
    Steel).
The thing is when I publish this file, I get 3 outputs:
    1. A file that opens in browser
    2. A flash file without skin
    3. A flash file with the skin
The problem is I cant upload all the 3 files in my system,
and when I try to upload the flash file with skin it doesn't work
    (just displays the BMP skin).
Is there anyway I can upload the file or is there a method to
combine the flash file with and without skin?
I tried exporting my demo to flash but the options all
changed. I have a deadline to meet so would apperciate a speedy
    response.

I'm sure there are other forum posts about this out there but
I think this is how you do it.
In Captivate go to the Project menu and open the Skin Editor.
On the Borders tab you need to switch off borders.
I think this should give you one file when you output but you
will have to check whether the skin now covers part of your
    presentation.
If so you may need to resize your project height to include
the height of the playback control. Go to Project > Resize
    project.
    Hope this helps.

  • Captivate 4 files compatible with Captivate 8?

I am currently using Captivate 4 and am looking at getting Captivate 8.  Can someone confirm that my current Captivate 4 .cp files aren't compatible in Captivate 8 and that I need to purchase Captivate 5 before going to 8?  Thanks!

There is no option to purchase Captivate 5 now.  As Lieve says, your best bet is to find someone that already has a copy of Cp5 or 5.5 and get them to upgrade your files to CPTX format so that you can update them to Cp8 more easily.
I also agree with Lieve that Cp4 is now so old you would be better off canning those projects and starting again.  Almost nobody is using Cp4 anymore.
According to a survey that I have had running on my website over 43% of users now seem to be on Cp8.  Captivate 4, 5, and 5,5 now only account for about 6% of the overall market.  You need to act fast to get all of your projects up to Cp8 format.

  • Unable to decode and import the selected wav/mp3 file" error in Captivate 4

    Good afternoon.
I have exported and edited the audio from a Captivate presentation in Soundbooth. After editing, I save the file as a .WAV. When I import the file to the slide, I recieve the error message listed above.
I have followed other threads in the forum and performed the following:
    XP Pro (32 Bit - SP3)
    E-Learning Suite
    Captivate 4
    Soundbooth CS4
    Downloaded and installed new NSAudio.dll
    Successfully registered NSAudio.dll
Have successfully ran the restoreCP4regentries.bat and the restoreRegPermCP4.bat
    Rebooted the computer
Ran the program as an adminstrator (although it asked me to re-register the product -a little strange)
I still recieve the error when I try to import the WAV files. If I convert the files to MP3, they can be imported. At this time I'd prefer to not import them as MP3.
WAV format is uncompressed, 44, 32 floating bit (I also unsuccessfully tried other bits).
I've lost an entire afternoon of productivity to this.
Any thoughts on how to resolve this? It appears I have followed all the recommendations I have seen so far.

    Hi there
I believe Captivate is a bit persnickety about the WAV format. You will likely need to adjust some setting with the WAV output. You might begin by trying the following and see if it resolves.
Begin with a backup copy of the audio clip
    Open basic Windows Sound Recorder
Open the WAV file with the issues in Sound Recorder
    Click File > Save As
Click the Change... button - make no changes and click OK (this should change to PCM format)
Try importing the WAV file after that and see what happens.
Personally, I'd be using the MP3 myself. Not sure why you are against it. After all, that's what will end up in your compiled result.
    Cheers... Rick
