Files do not always show in finder when accessing server

When I access our server(PC) files do not always show up in the finder. Sometimes it shows and sometimes it does not. I have to go back and start over. I recently updated to Snow when this problem started happening. Example. If i'm in illustrator and want to open a file on the server I will go to server than to the folder on the server. once the folder is open there is not any files showing. If I go back and start over they will be there. Sometimes I have to do this several time to show files. There are multiple type of files in the folders and none of them show. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

When you are viewing the tracks on the hard disc, did you then click on "Import CD"? This is needed to initiate the importing process that will add the tracks to your library.

CR2 file icons not always showing thumbnail image depending on view.

I have some CR2 files which behave oddly. Some show an icon which is a thumbnail of the image when in list view but a blank icon when in icon view? While others show a blank icon in both list and icon view?
Doing a get info and they all show a preview image and quick look displays the image, it is just the icons in icon view which are blank.
Is this something that can be fixed?

Yes it can, as I have found out!
I opened the folder which contained files which were displaying a plain icon when in Icon View. I then selected from the View Menu 'Show View Options', it was here that I discovered the check box for 'Show Icon Preview' which in this case was unchecked. When I checked this box the blank icons changed to a preview.
So problem solved.

Networked Macs Not Always Showing Up In Network In Finder - On One Mac

The problem is that awake and running networked macs do not always show up in Network on the Finder. Sometimes they do and sometimes they do not. The problem happens fequently on one machine. Very similar questions have been posted on this. I suspect many are dancing around the same issue. I am hoping to get to the bottom of this.
All the OS X machines are running 10.4.9. Two are networked by Airport. The Airport and the problem iMac, an older G3, are wired to a LAN. On the LAN sits a PPC 7200 running OS9 IpNetRouter serving up IP addresses for all the connected devices, including printers. IpNetRouter also provides an internet connection out through a second ethernet card. The PPC 7200 drive is always reliably available for connecting to in the Finder.
Each of the OS X machines are set for Personal File Sharing only, with Firewall running, and without Stealth Mode enabled.
The problem is noticed on the wired Mac. Perhaps that is the key to this. The problem is not two way. The Finder on the wireless Macs shows the wired Mac in Network when the wired Mac is not showing the wireless Mac. Sometimes only one of the wireless Macs shows on the wired Mac. When that happens it is always the wireless eMac instead of the wireless Intel Mac.
When this problem occurs, it is always possible to connect to the "missing" wireless Macs by using their local IP address reported by IpNetRouter. It is not possible to do the same using the computer name of the Mac that should be visible in Network or by using its DHCP client ID.

No Macs are sleeping, but they might have been in the past. They don't show up when they are sleeping. These machines are often on for days. All are updated on a regular basis, including in the past two days.

USB Drives not always showing Finder

I currently have two USB Drives connected through a powered hub and they do not always show in the Finder window. Also when I pug in a USB memory stick it does the same thing.
I am new to Mac, I love it but this really bugs me. is there a setting somewhere, what is happening? If I disconnect then re-plug in the memory stick it shows up. What is really funny, that doing this also causes the missing USB drives to show up......

I tried that, but still no go with a thumbdrive. I can go to "Computer", and the USB drive shows up under that. All my other USB external HDs, my iDisk, and even FireWire drives show up on the left pane of the finder, just not the USB stick.
Any ideas?

Ah yes, your aim must be exact! Incidently, as long as we're there in the title bar, there is another little secret up there: the wee little "proxy" icon in front of the name. You can actually do things with it. For instance, you can click and hold (pause for a half of second until it turns gray), now drag it to the Desktop, and you'll get an alias to the file. If you press the Option key while you drag you'll get a new copy of the file. Wait, there's more! Say you have a Safari window open, to this page perhaps, and you want to save the Safari page to the same folder as the file you have open in Preview. Bring up the Safari save dialog sheet, grab the proxy icon on the open file, drag 'n drop it into the Safari Save navigation section, and presto, the folder the file is in will be the one displayed in the Safari save pane. You can do this with the proxy icons anywhere, including those in a Finder window. So if you have a folder open, you can drag its proxy icon into the save or open navigation section of a program, and there you are. Saves you time navigating to something you already have open in one place (the Finder) from your program. I use it all the time.

well turn it off and see if that makes a change. After all IDLE is a server technology. If Google supports it and Yahoo does not then configuring Thunderbird the same means nothing. (I have no idea if Yahoo support it or not)

Notes always show in the inbox

In the mail program notes always show in the inbox as well as the reminders tab which is an annoyance as I do not want them to always show in the inbox.
Is there a way to only have them display in the reminders section.

IOS (iPads) always show "in progress" when enrolling

Set up Server 3 on a Mac Mini. Profile Manager enrolls OSX (Macbook) with no problem. iOS (iPads), on the other hand, always show "in progress" when enrolling. Any suggestions on what could be causing this?

Same issue here, profile manager is working fine for iphone and macbook, but any tasks sent to the iPad Air just sit there "in progress" forever...
The enrolment is still "in progress" but the device appears in the list, doing an update info or trying to send settings to it (which is also triggered with the enrolment) also sits "in progress" and the settings never arrive.
It can't be a firewall issue, as the iphones are working just fine, in the same environment, i'm stuck...

When trying to open the query in display mode, I get the message "The following objects were not found when accessing server", when I press cancel, the attributes are not available in the query.
I tested with authorization objects and the only way to get these attributes visible is to put them in an authorization object with full (*) authorization for the field.
Why does the system checks this? Because I don't want to give full authorization.
Is there a way to unable this check, as I want the attributes to be visible (also without the *)

Folder Redirection policy is not applied to a user, when the server target is changed, but works after resetting the windows profile.

After server target is changed via group policy, when user login (roaming profile)first time, the the new server target has not been applied, instead it's pointing to the old folder redirection path.
But if we reset the windows profile (roaming ), the new folder redirection works, can you please specify a solutions that the new folder redirection works when the user login for the first time. so it reduce the time on resetting users profile.
it seems that we need to delete the old folder redirection path from the user profile (roaming user profile) via group policy or similar solutions..

Yes - if you change redirection targets, FR moves content from old to
new, and only if this ends sucessfully, it will update the redirection
target.
Make the old redirection target accessible to the user and you'll be fine.

How get other computer to show in finder when file sharing checked?

I'm sharing files between my imac and my macbook air. I click on File Sharing in System Preferences on both computers. Sometimes the finder window shows the other computer and I can share. But other times there seems to be no way of clicking, of turning on and off, that will result in the other computer coming up on the Finders. Suggestions?

When you turn on file sharing you need to share specific folders that you can access through finder, when you have shared these folders they will be located under the shared section of the finder sidebar.
Also, if you're sharing the whole computer goto Finder > Preferences > Sidebar and make sure Bonjour Computers are ticked under shared.

Messages do not always show up when email is opened

This problem just started happening recently. Some of the emails do no show the message when I open them. Sometimes the message appears if I reopen the email but not always.

SMF service always shows offline even when it is up and running

I have added a service to SMF under /var/svc/manifest/application and am successful in starting it, but state always shows offline. How can I get it to show up as "online"?
