Files dragged onto 2nd screen are moved to main screen

I have a dual monitor setup. When I drag an item (file/folder/app) from a folder to the desktop of the 2nd screen, the item is automatically moved to the top right of my main screen.
When I drag an item onto the main screen, the item stays where I put it. Meaning, it's acts as expected on the main screen.
I do not have "keep arranged by" or "snap to grid" turned on - but it acts that way only the 2nd screen.
This applies to any type of file or folder. It happens when dragging from an app, or from a folder.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
-JD

Unfortunately, I get the same behaviour when I log in as a clean, new user as well.
I don't recall this being an issue in Panther... or at least earlier versions of Tiger.
Does anyone else see this situation on their dual monitor setup.

  • 10.4.8 -- Files Dragged Onto Folders Are Placed WAAAAY Down The Folder

    Hey.
    Ever since upgrading from 10.4.7 to 10.4.8, many folders are now behaving weirdly.
    In 10.4.7, if I were to drag-drop a jpg file, for example, onto a closed folder, it would be automatically placed inside the folder in the nearest vacant space. Now, in most cases, whether it is one file or multiple files being simultaneously dragged-dropped onto a closed folder, the files are dispersed wildly, a lengthy stretch down the folder in area that previously wasn't used (didn't exist) and had no files placed that far down.
    I used Snapz Pro to record a quick example of a miscelaneous folder, showing the wild dispersal of new files that were drag-dropped onto an old closed folder. The only items in the old folder prior to the drag-drop, was the row of image icons visible at the top of the folder. The lengthy stretch downward of wildly placed files was created when those new files were drag-dropped onto the closed folder.
    The video is viewable at YouTube, here [ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MHl3tfxfwBs ]. It's kind of blurry because the video pixel size was shrunk by YouTube to their default screen size. But you can see the icons, the mouse's cursor dragging the scroll bar downward, etc. Please take a quick look. It's only 15 seconds long.
    Is anyone else experiencing this? It is REALLY ANNOYING! I plan on writing Apple's feedback and making a complaint. But I figured I would ask here first and see if anyone else noticed this.
    17" iMac G4, 1GHz PowerPC, 768mb RAM   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    I would have to say, no arrangement. I don't know where to set "name, date modified, date created, size, etc." for folders.
    It does it with brand new folders also. And with folders created after the upgrade. But it doesn't do it with all folders, either pre-10.4.8 or post.
    I'm going to run a Repair Disk Permissions later and see what happens. But please, if you think of anything else, say it.

  • Desktop crashing when files dragged onto it

    I have a problem with my iMac 27 and can't find a solution.
    All of a sudden the finder crashed and kept opening a window asking to restore or close a window. Clicking on either button did no good. I did some searching and found it was probably the Desktop so with Terminal I cleaned everything off with the 'sudo rm -f…' command and it stopped the Finder crashing. But now I can't put anything on the Desktop. As soon I do the same problem comes back. Any ideas?

    Put the name of one of the items it contained into the Search field in a Finder window and try locating it from there. Items in the Dock are shortcuts, not actual files/folders; the item they link to is stored elsewhere.

  • We transferred purchases / synced an iPod touch to a toshiba laptop, and then updated the ipod. we can no longer put the files back onto the ipod. what are we doing wrong]

    we transferred purchases and synced from a iPod touch to a toshiba laptop, after it updated and synced again we have been unable to put the files back onto the ipod. the computer will not let us drag or copy paste files, and when we tried to " export" the library to the documents folder, it only showed up in code.  we have books and music we would like to reload to the ipod.

    Hello Jean164,
    Thank you for using Apple Support Communities!
    It sounds like you are unable to manually put your content back on your iPod Touch.
    It seems like you may need to re enable Manually Manage Music now that the device has been updated, and this article should help with that.

  • How do i drag media to the menu screens in premiere elements 13? I can't see my audio files and the menu screens at the same time. In prior versions it was easy

    How do i drag media to the menu screens in premiere elements 13? I can't see my audio files and the menu screens at the same time. In prior versions it was easy?
    It is very cumbersome to "re browse" for audio files/pics/movie clips to add to menu screens. Certainly there is a way to view the media and menu screen at the same time so I can drag and drop?

    Jayhawk
    I think I know exactly what you are seeking and believe it cannot be done in Premiere Elements 11, 12, and 13 as it can be done in versions earlier than 11 where the Disc Layout and Project Media are viewed side by side.
    Premiere Elements 13 uses a Movie Menu customization workspace which is not allowing viewing of Project Assets in the Expert workspace at the same time.

  • Submenus are moving to top of screen in IE8? All other browsers show correctly

    First off, I am new to web design and Dreamweaver, but a fast learner. So please - presume I know very little.
    I am using a mac, and created a horizontal nav bar using the spry widget (DMCS3; Spry 1.6.1). Everything is ok, except for the submenus in my nav bar. I've confirmed that it looks correct (for the PC) in Chrome and Firefox and (for the mac) Safari and Firefox. But in Internet Explorer 8, the submenus are moving all the way to the top of the screen. The only way I have been able to fix it, is if I type 132 px for the "top" "margin" in the "box" category in my ul.MenuBarHorizontal ul rule. However, by doing that it makes all the other browsers view it incorrectly ( the submenu is down towards the bottom of the page).
    I have seen where people have been putting "conditional comments" in their CSS file, for IE...and if this what I need to do, what do I need to write, and where do I need to put it in order to all IE8 users to conform to the 132 px top margin, while all other users conform to the original 2 px top margin.
    Lastly, a few people have commented that the submenu buttons are "sticking" (loading/disappearing slowly) as they scroll through the buttons, is there a way for me to fix that?
    Here's the link to the site, and my CSS file is attached - thanks in advance:
    http://www.newarkfop.com/test/home.html
    P.S. Getting it fixed would be great, but Im also interested to know why IE is even doing what its doing?

    Thanks, this is what I have, and it works for IE8
    <!--[if IE8]>
    <style type="text/css">
    ul.MenuBarHorizontal ul
    margin-top:134px;
    </style>
    <![endif]-->
    Then when I tried to add another comment for IE7, I put this - and then it did not work for either comment, can you tell me if you see something wrong?
    <!--[if IE8]>
    <style type="text/css">
    ul.MenuBarHorizontal ul
    margin-top:134px;
    </style>
    <![endif]-->
    <!--[if IE7]>
    <style type="text/css">
    ul.MenuBarHorizontal ul
    margin-top:134px;
    margin-left:20px;
    </style>
    <![endif]-->

  • How do I set up InDesign cross-document Text Anchor Hyperlinks so that when the files are moved, they remain active?

    I’m combining several InDesign files into one PDF, with several hundred text links across the different sections, as well as within each. The cross-document (section) Text Anchor Hyperlinks work fine in my workspace - but when I change the file location, they are no longer active (other links, bookmarks remain intact).
    How do I set up InDesign cross-document Text Anchor Hyperlinks so that when the files are moved, they remain active?

    They seem to be a lot of extra work, and I don't see what the additional benefit is. I have several hundred links to do. I would appreciate learning what the benefit is, as I don't mind the extra effort if it will deliver the desired results.

    I need to know how to "compress" the Folder Tree.  The File folders are moving to the right and out of sight in Lightroom 5.

    A couple of suggestions that may help:
    - Make sure you've made the left-hand column as wide as possible by grabbing the divider between the column and the Library grid view.
    - You can hide a parent folder from the display by right-clicking it and selecting Hide This Parent. This will shift all the child folders to the left.

    Windows will scale applications display or windows will not scale application display depending on how the application is coded.  Photoshop is coded in a way that its display is not scaled by windows.  Photoshop knows about your displays high pixel count not its resolution  so it uses its pixels  however it does not scale its UI to make it usable on your display.  Other application let Windows  scale their display output.   For example Microsoft default for is Surface Pro 3, 216 ppi display is to scale applications display up 150% so the surface pro 3 display which has 2160x1440 pixels a 216 ppi resolution look like at display with the user is using with 1440x960 pixels.  The Application works like the display is 1440x960 and Windows scale those pixels to the displays using the displays  2160x1440 pixels the effectively changing it resolution to 144ppi rather than the actual 216ppi.
    The reg update  and external manifest file  effectively tells photoshop its working on such a size display display some number of pixel wide and some number photoshop uses that as the display size  in turn Windows scale those pixels to use the displays 2160x1440 pixels efector lowing its 216ppi resolution.  Photoshop CC 2014 2X UI would be like using windows 200% option applications would be shown the are working on a display 1080x720 instead of the Surface Pro 3 2160x1440. Note that 1080x720 does not meet PS requirement of 1024x768.  Photoshop UI would not fit on the Surface Pro 3 display..
    Since you have a 4k display if you have CC 2014 you can use its 2x UI effectively Photoshop will be running on a 1920x1080 display and have half the resolution of you 4K display  3840x2160 pixels four native pixels are use as a single pixel.   1920x1080 pixels exceed PS requirement.

  • What are little transparent notices that pop onto the screen?

    There are little transparent notices that pop onto the screen whenever the computer congratulates itself for doing something like a download or finding an infected email and eliminating it.  What are those called and how can I turn them off?

    Thanks for replying MacJack,
    It turns out that it was Growl, not an anti-virus program that was being the nuisance.
    I found out how to disable those distracting pop-ups by following the directions on Growl's website.

  • On start all of the folders on the desktop are moved to the right side of the screen and jumbled together, not as I had them organized on the left side of the screen. OS X v10.6.8

    sometimes on start all of the folders on the desktop are moved alphabetically to the right side of the screen, not as I had them organized on the screen before. also sometimes  my folders  when opened, move and resize themselves too...

    Start with one of these:

  • I keep getting "error occurred while attempting to import file *******. The disc your are attempting to use is full." I have an external hard drive that I moved files over to, but apparently they're also still on my hard drive? HELP!

    I keep getting "error occurred while attempting to import file *******. The disc your are attempting to use is full." I have an external hard drive that I moved files over to, but apparently they're also still on my hard drive? HELP!

    So you have backed up the content of the computer's hard drive, too?
    That usually is a great idea since it is possible to lose use of the system
    if parts of it have accidentally been removed or get over-written, or the
    main system files get corrupted, when the hard disk drive gets too full.
    If you have not trashed the originals of your created content, that remain
    after you made copies on an external hard drive or other device, then
    that is what you'd have to do to reclaim the capacity still in use by them.
    What are specifications of the hard disk drive? The unused capacity
    verses the used, in GB? If the hard drive has less than 15 to 20%
    free or unused capacity, you could run into trouble. Mine are 40-50%
    unused hard drive space, so ample room is available for automatic
    Virtual Memory to use that capacity as temporary swap file space.
    This is helpful when the computer could use more physical RAM
    memory capacity, but doesn't have it. Or if the RAM is maxxed out
    and you can't add any more. Virtual Memory is part of OS X and the
    system automatically can use as much as is available, but it is better
    to be sure there is plenty of resources available to include chip RAM
    as well as unused or free hard drive capacity for use as VM.
    If for some reason your files in Trash won't go away when you empty
    it, you may have to restart. Be sure you have not included any System
    files in the content in the Trash, or the Mac may not start up later on.
    You may have to boot the computer from the install-restore OS X DVD
    and run Repair Disk from its version of Disk Utility, to be sure it's OK.
    I'm guessing that by now you know enough about the vintage system
    in the older hardware to figure it out, so I won't write about it now.
    In any event... hopefully you can simply trash the files, but check them
    carefully, & you may need to remove (copy to archive first) even more.
    Good luck & happy computing!

    The firmware was likely changed and it's not compatible anymore or the disk is bad.
    I was able to boot using the Snow Leopard disc from both my new MBP and my girlfriends MB, but both said that OS X could not be installed on this computer, and I couldn't even use the disc utility to wipe the drive.
    Those disks don't have the hardware drivers your machine needs.
    Your going to need to get a Snow Leopard retail install disk from Amazon/elsewhere.
    Do I need to have a serial number to reinstall OS X?
    Thankfully No.
