Files End Up In LH Corner

I have a 2012 MacBook Pro running 10.7.5 OSX and When I drag files from a folder to the desktop they end up in the top lefthand corner, almost out of sight.  A pain in the butt to have to drag back to the desktop proper so I can see them. I know the desktop is not economical for storage so it is used as a staging point until the files are sorted.  This problem I have not had before but I notice others have had it.  Why don't Apple solve the problem?  I know I can arrange the desktop but I prefer to be able to move files where I want.  Any suggestions?

Looking at the screen image, I'm wondering if you've got the screen set to a resolution lower than native. Doing so would alow the icons to appear partially off the screen.
I don't know anything about how an MBP builds the screen since this is the Mac Pro (desktop, the Xeon Macs) forum and we have detatched screens, but upper left is where the cursor always starts.
You might take a peek at the System Prefs and see what you're set at.

  • Streaming audio file over the network w JMF. How to know when the file end

    Hi
I am streaming audio file over the network using JMF. I want to be able to know when a file end so I can close the streaming session.
    Can some one please help

If you put a ControllerListener on the Processor that's associated with generating the RTP stream, it'll generate an "EndOfMedia" event when the end of the file is reached.

double click my domain in the Applications folder in i web
Just so we're on the same page you mean when you double click on the domain file that's located in your Users/Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder, right?
if we're on the same page try the following:
delete the iWeb preference file, com.apple.iWeb.plist, that resides in your Home() /Library/Preferences folder.
go to your Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder and delete its contents.
    launch iWeb and try again.
If that doesn't help continue with:
move the domain file from your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder to the Desktop.
launch iWeb, create a new test site, save the new domain file and close iWeb.
go to the your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder and delete the new domain file.
move your original domain file from the Desktop to the iWeb folder.
    launch iWeb and try again.

  • Nikon D800 can't open all RAW-files ending .NEF

Got a Nikon D800 and can't open all RAW-files ending .NEF Most of them no problem, but some I just can't.
"Could not complete your request because the file appears to be from a camera model" Thats not wight cause I can open like 90% of my .NEF files :/
Got latest Camera Raw (6.7)..Help please:/

Because many of the camera makers slightly alter their versions of their raw format whenever they release a new camera model.
Nikon does it, Canon does it, and also several other camera makers.
There is not a single version of NEF that all Nikon cameras use, nor a single version of CR2 for all Canon models.
Here is a list of supported cameras and the required ACR plugin needed to open the raw files.
Camera Raw plug-in | Supported cameras
Versions of ACR are specific to each version of Photoshop.
Older versions of PS cannot use the latest version of ACR.
You need to download the latest version of Adobe DNG Converter.
This will convert your newer D800 files to DNGs that can then be opened in older versions like CS5.
Be aware DNG only works on folders of files, not individual files. Select the FOLDER not a single file

  • InDesign CS4 crashes with files ending with a single page

I work in the IT team of a French press group. Our users (OS 10.6.6, InDesign CS4 [6.0.6]) work on facing pages documents, mostly set up with one spread; some files end with a single page. Most of our users complain about the fact that they always have to add a blank page (right to the single page) to avoid crashing. They never crash when they work on files containing only spreads.
Has anybody encountered the same issue?

    Hi jmlevy,
Working as a consultant for graphic design companies, I did not hear  of this problem. But, it is an interesting one. Can you send over one of  the files crashing (+images / fonts used)? Then I can see if I can reproduce the crash.

  • To those who have had synchronization problems: Did your files end in .dv?

In order to determine whether the synchronization problems were restricted to people using DV files, it would be helpful if anyone who had a problem could say whether their files ended in .dv. So: if you had a problem, could you please say what sort of files (medium) you were using? DV? HD? Whatever else there is? Thank you.

my clips were all pulled directly from my Canon FS20 camcorder. the file extensions of the raw footage is all ".mov" ... hope that helps. J
Thanks. It does help--or at least it should help the people who know enough about the subject to digest its significance. I'm trying to help them. They said this would be useful to know. (I think you actually posted this information before, but it slipped by; so I am glad you provide it again.)

  • Script to print a file ending with specific characters

    Hi all
Can anyone help me with a script that will automatically print to a laser, any file within various sub folders on a NAS that end in '_IMP.pdf'???
    total newb to scripting!
    thanks

Folder actions don't handle subfolders well, and I forget whether they can cope with network drives.  I'm sure you could make it work, but since we already have the script as given here's how you modify it to do what you want. Save the following as a stay-open application (save it as an application, and check the "application stays open after run handler" checkbox), and leave it running in the background. it will label files with a color as they are processed, which will tell both you and it what files have been printed.
    property nameCue : "_IMP.pdf" -- file ending
property folderPath : "/Path/To/Folder" -- posix path to folder that holds pdfs
property intervalMinutes : 10 -- time in minutes between iterations
property labelColor : 3 -- integer between 1 and 7; 3 is yellow by default
    on idle
-- use an idle handler to run the recursive search and print periodically
              set filesToPrint to recursiveFolderSearch(folderPath)
tell application "<printer name>" -- set this to the correct printer name
                        activate
                        print filesToPrint
              end tell
              return 60 * intervalMinutes
    end idle
    on recursiveFolderSearch(folderPath)
-- a handler to do a recursive folder search
              tell application "System Events"
set folderItems to disk items of folder folderPath whose visible is true
                        set chosenFiles to {}
                        repeat with thisDiskItem in folderItems
if class of thisDiskItem is folder then
      -- folder: recurse
set chosenFiles to chosenFiles & my recursiveFolderSearch(POSIX path of thisDiskItem)
                                  else
-- file: check file name for correct ending and then check to see if it's labeled
if name of thisDiskItem ends with nameCue and my checkLabel(path of thisDiskItem) then
set end of chosenFiles to POSIX path of thisDiskItem
                                            end if
                                  end if
                        end repeat
              end tell
              return chosenFiles
    end recursiveFolderSearch
    on checkLabel(f)
check if the file is labeled, which means it has already been printed.
if it hasn't been printed, label it with the appropriate color and return true
to tell the calling handler the file should be printed
              tell application "Finder"
if (label index of file f) = 0 then
set label index of file f to labelColor
                                  return true
                        else
                                  return false
                        end if
              end tell
    end checkLabel

  • Edit in Photoshop CS6 - after saving, file ends up in a seperate directory in Library module but ...

         Hi,
I'm getting this really annoying thing when I edit and save a file in Photoshop CS6 from Lightroom. After I save and return to LR4.2 in Windows Explorer it puts the TIFF in the same directory next to the original RAW file as it should, however in the Library module it gets a different entry. So I end up with the same directory listing with the photocount 1 next to it. It also doesn't show up in the main directory where all the other files are, it's not next to the originel RAW.
I can do "show parent folder" until the point I get to the root directory which then gives me an error message which says
    Anyone know why this occurs?
    Greets

Image files are on a different drive, the catalog is on my main SSD drive
I have recently bought a new computer with Windows 8
Here's a screenshot of the folder structure. The blurred out folders are the same btw.

  • RAW files end up as TIFF. Why?

After taking 300-400 photos and processing them in Aperture 3, OnOne and CS6 (CC) I always end up with some TIFF files. I have no idea how, when or why they were created. Some unknown thing happens during processing that turns some of my RAW files into TIFF files. This TIFF issue is a new issue for me, but I have noticed when I download a bunch of photos to SAM'S the automated SAM'S CLUB download system rejects the TIFF files. How can I avoid this TIFF issue? Do you know of anyway I can batch up the TIFF files and convert them to JPEG in one quick process before sending off to SAM'S CLUB for printing.

I'm assuming you are using Aperture's "Edit with..." menu items. What happens in Aperture when you use an external editor like PS or OnOne, is that it creates a new version of the image to be edited as either a TIFF or PSD file and creates a new corresponding master file in that format. The TIFF/PSD is specified in the Export panel in Aperture's Preferences. (Even if you specify something stupid like Calendar for your external editor, you still have only those two choices for the format of the file to be edited.) The external edits are performed on the new TIFF or PSD version, and your original RAW is untouched. Your external edits show up in the new version when you return to Aperture.
For compatibility with Sam's and most other places that provide prints, you will have to export your edited version from Aperture as a JPEG and send out the exported file.

  • Duplicate copies of files ending in "alias"?

    Hi,
I am currently powering my Macbook via the mains with the battery taken out as it is faulty. The magsafe cable came out accidently resulting my mac turning off immediately. Now that I have turned it on, in the files in Finder and on my desktop have duplicated with each files' name ending in "alias". The capacity of my hard disk drive is still the same. I tried deleting one of the files and noticed the hard disk memory increased. What does this mean? And how do I get rid of them?
Any help would be much appreciated, Thanks.

Make sure first that the messages have indeed been removed from the server. Choose Get Info (⌘I) from the Action menu (gear icon) located below the mailboxes list in the main Mail window. Does Mail display there the messages that keep reappearing?
If the messages have been removed from the server, you may be able to get rid of them in Mail doing Edit > Cut (⌘X).

  • Quicktime avi files 'end of file'

    Hi there,
I usually have no problems viewing AVI files on Quicktime but recently two files I've had that are avi can't be opened by quicktime and I get an error message that states the-end-of-file-was-reached -39.
Anyone got any clue this might refer to? I really want to get it sorted out. Thanks.

    Mark,
Are you Exporting as DV-AVI files? If you are, and they are mux'ed (Audio & Video multiplexed into one file), try as elemental steams, i.e. Video only DV-AVI and Audio only as PCM/WAV 48KHz 16-bit (or AC3 if you're doing DD 5.1 SS). If you have tried as elemental streams, then try with mux'ed DV-AVI (both Video & Audio). Elemental streams work best for me, and there are only the extra few steps:
    Import Video (only) as Timeline
    Import Audio (only) as Asset
Drag Audio from the Project Panel to appropriate Timeline. With proper Export from PP, they WILL match up perfectly in Duration.
With mux'ed files, you just Import as Timeline and are done - if that works.
Yes, Encore does get really picky. I always Export as elemental streams and never have any issues, but some have, and a mux'ed DV-AVI works for them - why? I do not know.
I do not know if there are any limitations with PP & Encore 1.5, as I have never used them, but others here WILL know if you need to watch out for version-specific issues.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Render files end up inside Final Cut Express package

With all of the discussion here about rendering, I thought I'd let folks know that that 'ol bug that plagued Final Cut Pro for so long (and perhaps still does) is present in Final Cut Express 4.0.1 too: render files sometimes end up inside the package for Final Cut Express. I know this because I just experienced it while running FCE 4.0.1.
With Final Cut Express not running, control-click or right-click on the Final Cut Express application file, then choose "Show Package Contents". After that, open the folder, "Contents", then the folder, "MacOS", and inside, you may see a folder for video render files, one for audio render files, or both.
Assuming that you don't want to render to that location, then with FCE still quit, move any render folders (that you found inside of the package) elsewhere; and delete the four preference files for FCE, according to the instructions given in Tom Wolsky's on-line guide:
    http://www.fcpbook.com/Misc1.html
Then start-up Final Cut Express and open System Settings. Once there, choose your scratch location(s): usually /Users/<username>/Documents/Final Cut Express Documents, if you are rendering to your boot drive. (If rendering elsewhere, simply specify a folder at that location.)
Next, move the render files from the package (that are now residing elsewhere) into the respective folders inside /Users/<username>/Documents/Final Cut Express Documents, if in fact you find their respective folders there and wish to use that as a scratch location. If not, or if you have specified a location on another drive, of if you want maximum integrity of your render files, then simply open your project file and re-render everything. But you might want to stop that process just a few seconds after starting it, then check inside your scratch folders to make sure that new render files are now being stored there. After verifying that, you can go back to your project file and resume re-rendering.
This issue may answer the question, "where are my render files". By the way, if you do a "Get Info" on the Final Cut Express application file and "Get Info" reports that that file is huge (say, several gigabytes in size), then it is likely that your render files are being stored inside.
Please excuse this post if the subject matter has already been discussed in this forum.

Eidschun, thank you for this thread. It doesn't matter how often it occurs, this information works on many levels and was a pleasure to read.
