Files failing to adhere to set data rate on export from Quicktime

I am hoping somebody can shed some light on this.
I open an uncompressed .mov file (output from FinalCut) with Quicktime with the intention of compressing it for the web. After File: export, in the options dialog box, in the field where you can restrict the data rate, I put a number, say 488 kbs/sec. But every time I do this, the finished compressed file has a data rate wildly higher, like 2000 kbs/sec, and so is too large for my purposes.
I feel like I used to do this all the time- I have plenty of .mov files with data rates around 500 kbs/sec that I posted on my website, so this had to have worked at some time in the past.
Anybody? Thanks

Just a bump-

When trying to burn a DVD it will go through the encoding step and at 98% we see the message 'data rate for this file is too high for DVD.  You must replace this file with one of a lower data rate".  We need help to correct this so we can complete burning to DVD.

  • Corrupted EXIF data in photos exported from Lightroom CC

After upgrading to Lightroom CC EXIF can't be read by some apps. "Re-saving" a file in Photoshop fixes the problem. I'm using Mac OSX 10.9.5. Are there any plans to update and fix the EXIF data generated when exported from Lightroom CC?
Also, this command fixes the issue with Create Date part of EXIF.
    #!/bin/sh
    exiftool -AllDates="$(exiftool ${1} | grep 'Create Date' | awk '{print $(NF-1), $NF }')" -overwrite_original ${1}
The reason I'm asking is because we run a site where "Create Date" read from JPG's EXIF is crucial and it's a matter of letting users upload the pic or deny uploading.
So again, any plans on the fix?
    Regards,
    Pawel Kadysz

I confirmed that the Exiftool command line:
    exiftool -m -all= -tagsfromfile @ -all:all -unsafe file.jpg
removes the ICC Profile, which could account for significant color differences, considering that the profile is Adobe RGB.  I think this may be a bug in Exiftool, so I filed a bug report.  (But it might be that Exiftool just can't handle the non-standard layout of LR's JPEGs.)  The author is typically very responsive.
I tried some alternate Exiftool command lines that touch as little metadata as possible, and this one seems to address both of LR 6's JPEG problems:
    exiftool -m '-exif:datetimeoriginal<exif:datetimeoriginal' -xmp-crs:all= file.jpg
The -m option ignores minor errors and issues, in particular, when there are more than 1000 entries in the XMP metadata.
The '-exif:datetimeoriginal<exif:datetimeoriginal'  option sets the EXIF Date Time Original Field with its current value; this tricks Exiftool into rewriting just the EXIF metadata without touching the other metadata segments (e.g. the ICC profile), addressing the first JPEG problem.   (You could use any EXIF field that's present -- I picked DateTimeOriginal since every camera adds that.)
The -xmp-crs:all= option option deletes all of LR's develop settings from the XMP metadata, addressing the second JPEG problem. That metadata is not ready by any programs other than LR, as far as I know.
I've tested this new command line on a couple of pics, including the example you provided above, and it appears to work correctly.  But given that we're dealing with buggy output from LR that doesn't conform to the de facto and de jure standards, it's hard to have high confidence without testing on dozens if not hundreds of pics.

  • Changing frame rate when exporting from iMovie '09 using quicktime has no impact on duration.  Why?

Changing frame rate when exporting from iMovie '09 using quicktime has no impact on duration.  Why?
I have a file created by digitizing an 8mm film at a rate of 24 fps. I would like to create a downloaded movie at a frame rate of 15 fps.  The Export using Quicktime option seems to provide that capability but the resulting file has the same duration as the original 24 fps file.  How can I get the exported movie to be slowed down?

    joegez,
There is a feature you can use to slow down the video. In the project, move the mouse pointer over the clip, then click the gear icon. That brings up the Inspector. Click the Clip tab. Then you will see a feature there called Speed. Move the slider to the left to slow down the clip. Or you can enter a percentage in the box on the right.
Hope this solves the problem for you.

  • Exporting from Quicktime to reduce file size

I'd like to export from quicktime to a smaller file size. That is, I have a 16.9 meg file I want to optimize for my website. When I try exporting it using the share function, there's no audio on the exported file. I've tried the Export function as well, using Movie to Quicktime movie settings, and the default H.264 compression. Same result...no audio. What settings should I use that will retain audio and shrink the file size so it'll load faster? Thanks.

QuickTime Pro can't extract audio from MPEG-1 files (muxed) so only the video is converted.
MPEG Streamclip (free) can export to QuickTime formats and include the audio track.

  • Best Data Rate for Export to DVD as Quicktime Movie

Hello - hope someone out there can help me!!!
I put together a slideshow for my high school reunion using iMovie HD 5.0.2 and need help with settings exporting it as a Quicktime movie.
*I want to export it to a DVD* so that I can play it on a friend's laptop and I'm not sure if iDVD would be the way to go - my friend has a Macbook Pro I can borrow so it might be okay - I am worried about the fact that I've been working on older software. (I have read about opening iDVD and bringing in iMovie project vs. "share to iDVD"). So they suggested instead of iDVD I just export as a quicktime. Then I can burn it in Toast (v.6.0.2)
    Wondering about *BEST DATA RATE?*
    In export settings I have:
    compressor set at H.264
frame rate: current (should that be DV-NTSC?)
    key frames: automatic (?)
    encoding: best quality/multi-pass
    should data rate be automatic?
Some details that might be relevant to helping me:
*Stills brought in as clips with cross-dissolves, only two uses of "Ken Burns effect"
*Some stills were in the project from my LAST reunion - I realize I should have reimported all the stills since I am now recompressing them, but it's too late now!
    *no audio
*Slideshow is about 45 mins long, file size says 5.52GB although when I looked into exporting it last night it said 9+GB - not sure why
*Using a G4 Tower (not my ancient laptop) with OS 10.4.11, Dual 533MHz PowerPC, 1.5GB SDRAM
    iDVD version is 6.0.4
please help if you can!! thank you in advance...

Are you trying to burn a standard DVD or are you trying to put a QuickTime .mov file on DVD media?
A standard DVD doesn't worry about file size (only the duration).
A "data" DVD is limited to the type of media used. A single layer DVD is about 3.7 GB's.
In order to make a data DVD you need to keep the data rate low enough to not exceed the DVD media playback abilities. They can't handle the higher rates found in many of the preset options.
You can avoid all of these headaches by telling the viewer to "copy" the .mov file from the DVD to their Desktop. Then nearly any of the presets option will work.
H.264 is a great video codec and the "automatic" preset should work just fine. Use "multi-pass" for best quality (takes a very long time). Remove the check mark for "Audio" since your file has none. Leave it checked and you waste file size because a silent audio track would be added.

  • What happened to the Get/Set Date and Time utilities from RT 7.1?

I'd like to use the Get/Set Date and Time utilities that were available in 7.1, but disappeared after that. I see that the 7.1 utilites  call a dll that does not appear to be installed with LabVIEW RT 8 and later. What do I need to do to use the utilites from 7.1 that do not appear in later versions?

In Labview 8.2 and later there are two directories for vi.lib. settime.dll is located in National instruments\Labview 8.2\Targets\NI\RT\ vi.lib
This is the dll you want to use in order to call it use the same Vi as in 7.1 (RT set date and time.vi) and link it to the correct dll.

  • I burnt a dvd from a file I exported from quicktime using the share with apple and pc option.  It was burnt directly from the finder. The dvd works perfectly on my mac, and also runs in my windows, but the sound in my windows pc is stammered.

This is file I created in SnapzPro (which was saved as a Quicktime mov - Animation) of a Powerpoint Presentation.

Jon, how do I re-compress the Snapz data for dvd playback?
That depends on your specific work flow strategy. I normally perform the processing in two stages if editing is involved or in a single stage if I don't plan to trim, title, add a narration track, add special effects, and/or add filters to the Snapz Pro X captured screen data.
In the two-stage process you export the captured data to an intermediate low-compression, high-quality fomat. (This can be the default settings for Snaps Pro X or a more modern editing specific format like ProRes 422/Linear PCM depending on the codec components for which your system is configured and your personal editing preferences.) The Snapz Pro X intermediate file is then edited in the application of your choice and the results are re-compressed to your final target compression format.
In any case, whether you are re-compressing the data using QT 7 Pro, iMovie, GarageBand, MPEG Streamclip, Snapz Pro X, or similar third-party app that accesses the built-in OS X QT routines, the export process is essentially the same. Whether you use a "Movie to MPEG-4" or "Movie to QT Movie" export, you must export to a data rate limited, multi-pass H.264/AAC compression combination to take advantage of the "Optimize of CD/DVD" option. Specific data rate limits depend on the playback dimensions of the file you are creating, the minimum level of quality you will accept, and the playback speed of the hardware to be used. (I normally target 4X-8X settings for SD content but if you know the recipient has a higher rated optical drive and your content is HD, then you can use higher encode settings for improved quality.)
I captured the slideshow again in Snapz, and saved it as H264/AAC. Is this good enough?
If you did not specifically use the "Optimize for..." feature, then the file is automatically targeted for "Computer" playback which assumes playback is from an hard drive which has greater bandwidth/faster throughput than an optical media player. If the target display dimensions are resonably small, the the contextual nature of the H.264 video encoder may or may not be within the playback limitations of an optical drive usually depending on the encode matrix dimensions, graphic complexity of the source data, overall brightness of the scenes, and limitations you may have place on the target file—i.e., the larger the encoding dimensions, the faster the data date and the less likely the file will be compatible with optical drive playback without having to constantly interrupt playback to cache/rebuffer additional data. However, you can always tell the recipient that if this happens, he or she should simply copy the movie file from the CD/DVD to their hard drive for playback.
What now? Do I open it in Quicktime and use the "share for mac and pc", then right-click on it in the finder and "burn to disc?"
What you do next depends on how you plan to burn the file. The steps explained above allows you to create a file that is compatible with playback from an optical drive in a QT Player app but is not authored for playback from a commercial DVD Player. Your next step is to burn that file to an optical disc that can be read by your recipient's computer. I my case, I normally burn the disc using a hybrid (HFS Plus/ISO 9660) format which supports HFS Plus, ISO-9660, Rock Ridge, and Joliet with Rock Ridge file systems. How you do this is up to you. You can, for instance, use a third-party app like Toast or Dragon Burn to create a data disc; create/burn an image file with your Disk Utility app (this is a good option if you plan to burn several discs now and/or in the future); create a named "Burn" folder, drop the file to it, and press the burn button; or simply insert a blank optical media disc into you optical drive, change the default disc name to whatever you want, drop your file to the blank media's Finder window, and press the "Burn" button. (NOTE: Burn options may differ depending on the software installed on your system and/or the version of OS X under which you may be operating.)
Dont see any specs re playback from an optical disc drive? The slideshow is only 3 min long, and I want to avoid turning it into a video DVD using iDVD, iMovie etc, as the quality of the pictures and type degrades badly. Thanks for the help. Been struggling with this for weeks.
As noted above, this is an encode setting that only becomes active when you are targeting your H.264/AAC encode for multi-pass/data rate limited compression. When active, the "Optimize for..." pop-up allows you to select "computer" (targets playback from a hard drive), "CD/DVD" (targets playback from optical media), or "Streaming" (targets playback from a realtime streaming server) options. This option prevents data rate excursions from exceeding limits normally associated with each of the named types of playback. This option has nothing to do with the file system used to burn the media disc which determines which platforms/OS can read the disc and the file it contains.

  • How to determine AAC setting in a .MOV exported from FCS?

I've got a small problem. I create a H.264 .MOV for use with an external product (Windows based) that is VERY picky about using AAC audio and very specific settings. So I was playing around with AAC settings (44.1K, Normal, bit rate, etc.) and finally go a working exported .MOV (working in the sense my other application can use it without a problem).
Unfortunately, I didn't fully document exactly what I used when doing the "Export using QuickTime Conversion" from within FCP.
I've tried using QuickTime and Sound Track Pro and Compress and in Finder Info to reveal the Audio settings used to produce the AAC that goes with the video, unfortunately nothing provides the exact details I need -- such as what Quality setting was used, what bit rate was used (ABR, VBR, CBR) etc. etc. Is there anything that can help me extract this info so I can duplicate my process again?
    Thanks, Rob.

Get Info will not show the exact setting I used for AAC, just shows AAC and the sample rate (i.e. 44,100). What I need to know are:
    Render Settings Quality:
    Faster, Fast, Normal, Better, Best
MPEG 4 AAC LC Encoder Settings
    Encoder Strategy:
Average Bit Rate, Variable Bit Rate, Variable Bit Rate Constrained, Constant Bit Rate
    Target Bit Rate:
    64, 72, 80, 96, 112, 128, 144, 160, 192, 224, 256, 288, 320
As you can see 117 possible permutations....ugh, I'm using Grab now, but a little post facto. There also doesn't appear to be any way to create a savable Preset for "Export using QuickTime Conversion" once I finally get the right setting.
Not sure why my other application is so picky about the AAC setting, but it seems I have to get it just right (that application encoders are based on an older version of MainConcepts).
    Thanks, Rob.

  • Execution date in Excel export from a query

    Dear all,
I am wondering if it is possible to have the query execution date in an exported excel.
Case: When working in a query it should be possible to export the query to excel. However I am missing the execution date of the query and the last successful data load (which is visible in the webquery).
Anyone has an idea how to achieve that?
    Thank you in advance,
    Andreas

    Hey Guys,
Just wanted to point out that I know how to do this with a webapplication but I would need that within an excel export from an ordinary web query.
    Could someone help out here?

  • Data to be exported from single ODS into 3 different files

    Hello All,
There is an ODS having data for the last 3 quarters. I have to export this data as 3 files (one for each quarter) to the appln server. Any idea on how to achieve this using the infospoke & a single ODS?
    Regards,
    R.Ravi

    Hi Ravi,
To carry out this in a process cahin you can use an event to trigger the extract structure.
Once you have created an extract structure for a query, in the start condition selection option specify an event to trigger the extract structure. Call this event(you can use a Z-program) in the process chain which in turn will trigger the extract strucure to down load the file onto the application server.
In our case we have deviced a Z-progarm to call the event which triggers the extract structure and track the completion of the download job. once the file is available in the appl srvr the process(ABAP program) gets completed and the subsequent process gets triggered.

  • Sample clock rate when exporting from Matlab

    Hi all,
I'm quite new with Labview and got stuck with (probably) some basics. I try to use a data vector generated by Matlab as an output with PCI-6115 (see the pic). I use "read from spreadsheet" VI. Everything works fine but I cannot change the sample clock rate. I wanted to use 100 000 kHz for this (binary) output but I only get 1 Hz which is some default value. The "DAQmx timing" VI which I'm using shows "uses the dt component of the waveform input to determine the sample clock rate". I find this dt inside the "DAQmx timing" but nothing happens when changing. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Do you see those red coercion dots on the inputs of the DAQmx Timing and DAQmx Write? They mean that you are using an incorrect data type. A 1D array has no timing information. The waveform data type includes a dt value and this is required to set the sample rate of the DAQ card. If you don't have this in the text file, you cannot automatically provide it. The Read From Spreadsheet cannot automatically create a waveform data type even if the file does contain dt information. Since you did not attach the text file you are reading, no way of knowing if your problem goes all the way back to Matlab or somewhere else.
In the future, please think about what information you should provide. As mentioned, the text file is important. It's also hard to debug an image. Attaching the actual code or a snippet is much better. A snippet is a png file that can be imported into LabVIEW as actual code. It's an option under the Edit menu in LabVIEW 2009.

  • How do you include date in PDF export from Keynote 6.2.2

In Keynote '09, I used to be able to insert the date in the bottom of a PDF export. Now that I upgraded to Mavericks, Keynote (6.2.2) appears to only have the option to "include name and date".
That's a useless combination. Those are 2 different things: (1) the filename, and (2) the date. At best, those should be two separate checkboxes.
I miss the feature to add ONLY the date to the PDF generated. I haven't upgraded to Yosemite yet but don't have my hopes up that this feature exists.
Am I missing something? How can I include the date in a PDF exported/printed/saved from a Keynote presentation?

Events are purely automatic, and will only organise on the date and time.
Make an Album of the photos and then you can drag them to any order you want.

  • Data lost when exporting from iPhoto?

When exporting photos from iPhoto, the descriptions of the photos (here bird and animal names) get lost.  Is this true, or are we doing it incorrectly?
    Thanks!
    Ed

It depends on how you exported.  To get the ITPC fileds written to the file it must be exported via File ➙ Export ➙ File Export menu option with Kind = JPEG and the two checkboxes checked:
That will embed the metadata into the exported file.
