Files from cs3 to cs

I have just spent hours working on a file for a client only to discover that they only have Indesign CS and I have CS3. They say they can't open an inx file either. Is there anything I can do about this without expecting my client to upgrade? I have only made changes to the text if that makes a difference in anyway.

> they can't open an inx file either.
Your client can open a CS2 INX file if they're patched to the latest
point release (not sure what the number is now because I don't have CS
installed these days).

  • Unable to open T1i CR2 files from CS3

Running CS3 on Windows Vista.  I have updated Camera Raw plugin to 4.6.  I am able to view raw files from my Canon 5D, but not from new Canon T1i.  I get error message of "Could not complete your request because it is not the right kind of document."
I read that I should use DNG software, but when run, I get error messages on the converted files. I have been able to use Canon software, but would prefer using Adobe.

What version of the DNG converter are you using?
It has to be the equivalent level to the Adobe Camera Raw version that would be needed for that camera, ie 5.4 or higher.
You can get it here: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4578

  • Opening .psd Files from cs3 In CS5?

I'm new to photoshop CS5 and I'm getting this error on some PSD files "Could not complete your request because it is not a valid photoshop document" and I think its because these .psd files were made/saved in CS3. So is there any way I can open CS3 .psd files in CS5?
If CS3 .psd files should open fine in CS5, then does anyone know what could be my problem? thanks!

There should not be an issue with PSD's from CS3, in CS5. There were some compatibility issues way back, but Adobe offered the ability to include that backward compatibility.
My first thought would be that there is a problem with those particular PSD files. Do they Open in PS CS3? Do they Open fine in programs, like IrfanView?
Now, if there IS an issue with CS5, someone will correct my assertions.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Im having trouble exporting a file from cs3 to illustrator 6 (an earlier version). Please help.

I have an EPS file that was created with CS3 on a macbook leopard operating system and was saved according to the ( Adobe) instructions to the CD in illustrator 3.
Later I tried to open the CD on a Performa 6200 CD using a macOS 8.1 with Illustrator 6.0. When I opened the CD there was a closed lock on the top left corner of the window, the EPS file icon appeared as a gray paper not looking like your typical illustrator file. I then proceeded to click on the EPS file and a window appeared with this message: "The document "---" could not be opened, because the application program that created could not be found.  Could not find a translation extension with appropriate translator".
If there is anyway that you can help out please respond, I am really desperate.
    Thank you,

It sounds like your older performa might not know to open that EPS with illustrator. Try going into Illustrator and using File>Open. If that still does not work it may be that CS3 did not save down a version that will work with Illy 6. Options for saving a legacy EPS from CS3 are Illy ver 3, 8, 9, 10; so you would need to save down to 3.

  • Saving a flash file from cs3 to cs4 ruins the file!

Last time I used flash for an urgent commission I discovered a very heavy bug, which did cost me half a day of work and nearly the whole commission. What happened:
I saved a flash file originally created with Flash CS4 as CS3 because the Actionscript programmer did not have a newer version. When I reopened the changed file and typed CMD+S it saved the file without warning. This was momentous: when I re-opened the file, only the library contents did show up, the timeline and stage was empty. Trying to publish the movie again resulted in a program crash. Thus I had to rebuilt the whole flashfile from scratch the next day and calm down a very nervous (and important) customer. Since then I always chose "Save as" and change the format to "CS3", and – how about that! – the file stays intact.
So HOW can a software have a glitch like this be on the market? I would suggest to Adobe that the rework the whole code because flash seems to be very poorly coded. I experienced numerous minor bugs in the last years, but this one beats them all. You save a file and ruin it.
If anybody else has experienced this, I would like them to share their experiences. Not just with me – share them with the people responsible for this. Write to Adobe.
    kind regards,
    tomasio

Just save.  It'll open in previous versions.
BUT if you used features that are specific to CS6 (like vector strokes) those may not show up in previous versions.
If you want everything to show, flatten the image and save a copy.
If you want to show the structure of the file - avoid features that are new in CS6 and save as PSD..

  • Convert. Files from CS3 to CS4

When I open files created in CS3 within CS4 all the text and graphics are gone. I'm left with grid lines. Any ideas?

Thanks Peter. The uninstall & reinstall did not help. Based on your suggestion I have also tried replacing preferences (Ctrl+Shift+Alt) when launching InDesign CS4. Did not help. I've found I can't even create a new document without getting "InDesign.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close" and the icons for my tools panel are not shown - all I see are the tool tips when hovering. Adobe Tech Support pointed me to KB404723 for further trouble shooting.

  • CS3 misses .xmp files from PSE4

I have used PS Elements 4 on Windows for a couple of years. Most of my photos are in RAW (from a Rebel XT). I have it set to save RAW adjustments in .xmp sidecar files. When I look in the directory with Windows Explorer, the sidecar files do, in fact, exist.
I just bought & installed PS CS3. I intend to continue to use PSE4 organizer because I have a lot of collections, tags, etc. I have configured PSE4 to use PS CS3 as its external editor. CS3 is configured to use .xmp files.
When I open a RAW file in CS3 via the PSE4 organizer, the file opens, but the adjustments are not used--it's as if I never adjusted the image.
If I open the file from CS3 Bridge, or directly with PS CS3, it works right. If I adjust a file in CS3, then save it, and re-open it from PSE4 organizer, it works right.
How do I get it to work right when I open a previously adjusted RAW file from PSE4 organizer?

Thank you for taking the time to respond Mr. Castaneda.
Using Bridge in this context, while obviously an effective work-around, only serves as an unnecessary resource hog.
The simple issue is this: What used to take half a second in keyboard taps now requires either the use of an additional program (Bridge) or several additional steps in Finder.
I can't help but to suspect that there is some way to configure my system to behave in the desired manner.
I do use Bridge regularly, but when all I want to do is process hundreds of RAW files in the largest batches possible, I don't see the need to waste resources on it. And it does slow things down noticeably.
I like to use Bridge for sorting, renaming, editing, labeling, etc. But to use it just to open up files seems a little inefficient.
Maybe I'm picking at nits here, but I'm just baffled that this system behaves differently than the one I used a few days ago (same OS, programs, and updates).
    Many thanks!
    Best regards,
    Michael

  • Opening CS3 files from CS6 InDesign

We are looking to upgrade the office from CS3 to CS6 Creative Suite. Can InDesign files from CS3 be opened in straight into CS6? If not, what is the best way to access the CS3 files from CS6?

Can they be opened directly? Yes.
Should they be? Harder to answer.
I've never had a problem with any file I created moving from an old to anew version, but we've seen reports here from other users who found converting CS3 or CS4 files to CS5 or CS5.5 seemed to be OK right up until they failed, often after extensive editing and while trying to export PDF. In general, exporting these same files from the earlier version as .inx or .idml, and opening that in the new version did not fail.
CS6 is too new to have had many similar reports, and I want to stress that these problems are probably isolated and indicate, I suspect, some underlying corruption in the original file (which might have caused failure in the original version at some point, too), but I've persaonally adopted a policy of export from the original for any file that is going to get converted. It isn't worth the risk compared to the short amount of time involved in taking precautions.

  • Is it possible to transfer custom web galleries from CS3 to CS5?

Does anyone know if it is possible to transfer my custom web galleries from PS CS3 to Adobe Bridge CS5?

Collections are not a physical directory.  It is kind of like a spreadsheet that tells Bridge where to find the pictures and display them, so you can't just move the folder.
Smart collections are a little easier to transfer, but do not think CS3 had those.
Not an expert here but believe you would first have to have the same computer  and HD so that all the picture loacations are the same.
Then go to User/App Data/Roaming/Adobe/Bridge/Collections and copy file from CS3 and insert into same spot for CS5.
Maybe someone that have done this will jump in and prove me wrong.

  • Moving from CS3 to CS4

Sorry if I'm in the wrong area but I was wondering if I can just use a saved file from CS3 flash like on my flash drive and use it on a different computer that has CS4 flash on it. Also if I can is there a specific way I need to import it or can I just open it up when I start up CS4?

cs4 can open any cs3 file like you open any file.  cs3 cannot open a file saved for cs4.

  • Unable to open CS3 Files from within the application

    Good Afternoon
I work as IT Support for company looking after 10 ADOBE Creative Suite 3 end-users.
One of my colleagues is unable to open Illustrator or Photoshop files from within their respective applications, but she is able to open them from outside ok.
I have reinstalled ADOBE CS3 and this appeared to resolve the issue, only for it to return again a day later.
She has no other applications or processes running during her attempt to open a file from within CS3.
She will click on Open and the 'Open File' window will flash up for a split second, then the whole application will be frozen. It is as if the 'Open File' window is there, but isnt there because we cant click on it, but the application thinks it is displaying and so she can not click on anything else. The only way to close the application is to end the process under Task Manager.
While I am sitting here tearing what little amount of hair I have on my head, can anyone point me in the right direction?
Is this a Windows problem or an ADOBE problem do you think?
I look forward to any replies.
    Thank you

    Hi Bob
    Ok...
Opened illustrator but was unable to open the 'Open File' window.
Changed the screen resolution, it suddenly worked!
Changed the screen resolution back to as it was before, it also worked.
What could cause this do you think?
By simply changing the screen resolution and back again, the 'Open File' window displayed itself.
    Very bizarre!

  • Can't Open jpeg files from Bridge CS3 to PhotoShop CS3

This is really weird. I had a trial version of CS3 and bridge worked fine. That ran out, so I tried CS2 to see if I could get by with the older version. CS2's bridge worked just fine.
Then I installed a full version copy of CS3 and removed CS2 (to free up space) and for some bizarre reason, I cannot open any files from bridge into Photoshop. It's the CS3 bridge because I clicked on the Help, About Bridge and it showed CS3.
When I just click "open" under file, it tries to open with Illustrator. When I click, "open with" I get this list: Adobe Illustrator CS3 (default), Firefox 2.0, Internet Explorer 6.00, and Paint 5.1.
I can't figure out a way to change the default to CS3, and it worked fine with the trials.
    Please advise.

It was a nice thought. I just did it, and associated all .jpg type files with photoshop, but no such luck in solving issue. I did figure out a way around it that kinda works, but not nearly as convenient. I drag select a group, then hold-click on the group and toggle into Photoshop, then let go. It pastes the group there. However, if I control click to select a group (or deselect within a group), I can't hold-click. So I have to do smaller groups at a time if I want to bypass certain pictures that get grabbed in a bigger group--does that make any sense at all?

  • Getting files from a business that uses Photoshop CS6. I use CS3 and have text problems

Hi, I'm getting files from a business that uses Photoshop CS6. I use CS3 and when I edit the text, the text moves to a different location even off screen.
Anyone know how to fix this?
It makes it hard to copy the text and imposible to change the color or make corrections.
This just started when they went to Photoshop CS6.
    Thanks,
    Jeffery

Ask the folks supplying you with files whether they've updated to the latest version...  There were problems with Photoshop CS6 13.0.0. saving text layers in jumbled-up fashion.

  • DW CS3 no longer opens files from SourceSafe

Dreamweaver CS3 no longer opens files from Visual SourcesSafe
2005 when you right-click and choose to View with DW, even if DW is
    the registered application.
DW receives the focus, but nothing happens.
This used to function with DW 8. I have tried it on two
machines, both of which were fresh installs, so could not be
conflicting with DW 8 in anyway.
    Is this a known bug?
    Matt

It seems this is a known issue with Dreamweaver. I was able to access the files just fine by deselecting "display external links" in the view menu. Strange that I did not have to do this before.
For anyone interested, here are some links about this: http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/webforums/forum/messageview.cfm?forumid=12&catid=18 9&threadid=1262486&highlight_key=y&keyword1=design%20mode and http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=kb401608&sliceId=1
