Files keep locking themselves in CS4?

Hi
Just installed Snow Lepeard with CS4 and whenever im saving over or saving as, i keep getting the message that the file is locked and i need to unlock it to save over it"? This is sending me nuts, does anyone know how to stop it?
All files are on a server that hasn't changed. This probelm is also happening in Photoshop. It opens file ok, will save over sometimes, then i need to go unlock the file to save again.

Interesting...What type of server are you using? We are very close to upgrading to Snow Leopard also...

PDF files keeps locked in Explorer preview

When previewing a PDF in Windows Explorer (Windows 7 & 8) the background process AcroRd32.exe will run 2 times and after deselecting the pdf it takes approx 15 seconds to close AcroRd32.exe. Also the file keeps locked for 15 seconds until AcroRd32.exe will close. How can I speed this up? What I want is when deselecting the PDF in explorer, closing AcroRd32.exe instantly, just like when closing down Adobe Reader itself.
I am using 11.0.5 but this is happening in other versions too.

Indesign CS5 file keeps locking and won't save or undo

Hi Adobe forum,
I've recently bought Indesign CS5 and I've already had two problems in two days with the software. I've got a new macbook pro.
The first problem was when exporting a file down to CS4 with the new IDML file format it kept sending it to the background export panel, but it then wouldn't process at all. This was annoying as i couldn't then save or cancel the exporting file. I found a way around this by first exporting a pdf and then exporting the IDML file... it seemed to get it all kickstarted. Please fix this bug Adobe.
The second problem I've got is: I opened an Indesign CS4 file and then saved it as a different file name. I then opened this new file and as soon as i tried to make a few changes it wouldn't let me save or undo or redo anything. This was very odd, and annoying. I checked the file info and nothing was odd and permissions was read and write. Any idea how to get around this? Is there a secret unlock / lock button that I have pressed somehow?
Let me know if anyone can help.

I opened my CS3 files and then successfully saved them several times, but part way through a job, the file froze up and I couldn't undo or save. When I closed the file it asked me if I wanted to save so I said yes, but then it gave me the message that the file could not be saved. In one of the CS5.5 help sections it said to export as IDML file and then reopen the file if you are experiencing problems saving converted files. I did that but it did mess up the file a little (added drop shadows to a bunch of the photos that did not have drop shadows). I'm hoping this will fix the problem, but it isn't a consistent problem so I have to test it. Are you running any type of auto-activation plugins for fonts? I just set up my Fusion 3 font auto-activation plugin for CS5.5 this morning and the problem occurred on the same day. If the IDML fix does not work, I'm thinking it may be the auto-activation plugin since I've read about similar issues before with third party plugins.
You should try exporting your CS3 files to INX and opening that in CS5.5.
If you see a problem when you export to IDML, it most likely means that your file was corrupt from the start. I guess it could also mean you have identified a bugin the IDML export, but I think that is not the likely case.
Given that there are known issues with Suitcase interfering with some background tasks (Preflight), it's not surprising that it might interefere with another (Export).
When you open a new thread, please tell us your OS and version of InDesign as well.

Imported Canon xf305 MXF files keep copying themselves in Premiere Pro CC (October 2014)

Hi. My Adobe Premiere CC keeps getting worse with MXF files. This is a progressing BUG Type problem with each update. As each Premiere update comes out my program behaves even more bizarre. Upon original import, they're fine. Turn off computer and next day my half hour piece all-of-a-sudden turns into 25 copies of the first 5 minutes. So I delete the rest of the copies and whats left I loose 4/5th of the program. So I input files and they're ok,,, 2 hours later they're no audio on 1/2 of the program, or all of the individual Icons in the files bin have turned into one same picture of the first piece copies 10 or 20 times? Or I edit my footage and the next day I turn on the computer open the program and all my footage is not in the bins or timeline, yet they play perfectly fine on their own in the media drive with another player?
WHAT IS GOING ON WITH PREMIERE? It's Absolutely Unusable?
Old drives? I don't think so, It's a relatively new computer with two (5 month old Solid State Drives) Besides it all works great with another player?

4. Then I Open PremiereProCC, create a new project and point everything to that project folder on the M (media) drive.
5. Next I go to media bin within the new project, right-click and choose "Import Media", grab all the new footage and hit open.
6. The roughly 1 hour project taped at 750p @ 50mps, takes about 1.5 hours to populate into the bin.
7. Finally I drag all the clips (roughly 10 of them) onto the new timeline, where it takes another roughly 30 minutes to populate onto the timeline.

Item 6 ...thats far too long and indicates an issue. Should be maybe a minute and then maybe some pek conforming
Item 7 ...far too long and indicates a problem, Should be virtually immediate.

Panels Keep Minimizing Themselves (Ps CS4, Win7)

I'm using Photoshop CS4 on Windows 7 at work and every time I minimize or close Photoshop and then maximize/re-open, my Swatches and Layers panels are minimized.
My workspace is saved, and I've tried resaving it (including panel locations, shortcuts and menus).
If i'm just simply switching programs/windows, it doesn't happen. Its only when the entire program is closed or minimized.
It doesn't make any difference if I have a file open or not.
Screenshots: left is before minimizing, right is after minimizing and maximizing again.
This hasn't always happened. Its jsut been in the last few months, and its driving me nuts. I mean its not like its hard to open them again, but when i'm switching back and forth between other programs and trying to do things quickly, it gets extremely irritating.
It doesn't happen on my colleague's computer, and she has the same version of everything. I've never seen it happen before (before it started doing this).
I have CS5 (and have had CS3 and CS4 in the past) on my Mac at home and its never happened. Although you can't actaully minimize Photoshop on Mac anyway.
Any ideas as to why this is happening or how to fix it?

Oh, I just realized that that option does. Its the panels that I have in the icons that I open and close (down the left side, I have my type and paragraph panels, history, etc.). If you minimize Photoshop when one of those are open it closes it when you bring Ps back up again. I wasn't concerned about those ones so I didn't test it at the time. I was concerned abotu the fact that it didn't make any difference to the swatches and layers.
Only thing its doing now is just making the swatches window taller, making the layers shorter, which I can live with, becuase its all still on my screen. I'm sure there's a way to fix that too though.
I've just got too much work to do and not enough time to figure out how to fix all the tiny issues within my working hours.

Files keep renaming themselves!!

Hi not sure if this is the right place to post, but here goes...
I have a studio of Power Mac G5 towers (20), some are intel dual processors, other are pre intel. The Intel macs are running tiger, the pre intels are running panther.
Problems are occuring when saving files from Adobe CS2 (illustrator, p'shop) and Quark. Occasionally when saving from these programs, the file will change its name to something random and also change its icon.
For example: Saving an illustrator CS2 file called - illustration_3.eps, will appear as dp-600.eps and have a pdf icon.
By pressing get info - it say the file type is an illustrator CS2 file and will open in illustrator.
As Im sure you will appreciate with the fast pace of the studio, some files are being automatically renamed and then lost, causing all sorts of problems.
Any help on this matter would be great.

I have exactly the same problem on a G4 1.25MHz, usually with IndesignCS.
A correct file name is replaced with a file name from any file on the desktop. So for example '16pagebrochiure.indd' could become '2006spreadsheet.xls'. Still opens ok in Indesign however.
Note, only picks up wrong names from files on the desktop.
I'm inclined to think that the problem is related to 10.4, as I don't recell the problem happening with 10.3.9

Everytime I try to save a photoshop file I get the "Could not save becasue this file is locked" -- and then I go to save again and it does save, becasue the file has disappeared from where I had originally saved it!
This is VERY irritating, as it is not happening EVERY time I try to save a photoshop file.
In reference to the previous post about this, I do not use Spotlight, and often I do not have anything else open when working on these photoshop files.
I am using CS4, and this occurs when saving files both on and off a server.

No anti-virus software (they cause far more problems than they solve, at least on a semi-secure network), I don't leave Bridge running. iTunes is running, so is InerTrak (time tracking software)... so it has to be Spotlight or Time Machine unless Activity Monitor will lock files. Or it could be Quicksilver, which creates indices like Spotlight.
First thing I'm doing is adding all my hard drives to "Prevent Spotlight from searching these locations" and we'll see if this comes up again.
Could it be the Finder? Does the Finder lock the file while reading the thumbnail?
I'm surprised that there's no way to tell what process has locked the file.

sorry, i don't have the answer, but i think i have the same problem if i may expound:
I did a windows 7 update.... and today i tried to modify some song info in iTuens... I selectd an album with 12 songs in it, right clicked for "Get Info" tied to update album info including year, album artist, etc... but it would not take. I checked the security setting in the windows folder and confirmed i had admin rights etc...still no go...

Managed to solve this myself. Just went to properties > hidden.

Oracle.exe keeps locking a file after connection has been closed.

I've written a windows service in .net that monitors a directory for new uploaded files that need to be synchronized with the database. When it detects a new file it moves the file to a another directory from which oracle can reach the file. When the file is moved. I open a connection with the database that performs a select * ... on the external table which reads the file. This all works like a charm and afterwards i dispose of the connection.
Then i try to move the file again to another directory because it has been processed, but then i got an System.IO.IOException because the file is locked by a process. When i check by which process it is oracle.exe and the lock stays untill i terminate my service. When i debug the service i double checked and the connection state is closed before i try to move it again. For some reason oracle.exe locks the file untill i kill the service that opened the connection.
If i need to give more specific information please ask, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Do you see the same behavior is you select * from sqlplus instead of the odp app, but don't disconnect the sqlplus session?
ODP has pooling on by default, so even though you close and dispose the connection, the underlying hard connection stays open.
I dont know if there's a way to unlock the file without disconnecting which may be the ideal solution, but if not you could probably just disable connection pooling (set pooling=false in the connect string) to get around it.

Word for Mac keeps locking while I'm working on the file

Hello,
I'm not sure if I'm asking this question in the right place.
While working in Word on Mac, the file just locks while working in the file. Once the file locks, no edits can be made and I have to copy and paste it into a new file. Has anyone else had this issue? Is there anyway to fix it?

How To Fix: "The iTunes Library.itl file is locked, on a locked disk, or you do not have write permission for this file."

I can't reopen my iTunes after I have to force quit when it does not respond. I get this message:
"The iTunes Library.itl file is locked, on a locked disk, or you do not have write permission for this file."
I've read to do the solutions. I right clicked on both the iTunes and Music folder and went to info for each. On both the lock at the bottom of the Get Info was locked. All of my users including admin can read and write all files within those folders. They are even a shared folder. I clicked on the lock to unlock it, typed in my admin password, and went to the gear to apply to all files inside. After doing that I keep getting the saved message.
I tried another way that I've found online to move my ituneslibrary folder to the desktop and then open my iTunes. In theory the iTunes is supposed to ask for where the iTunes library is. Once that is prompted you quit iTunes and drag the iTunes Library folder back to the folder from the desktop and reopen iTunes to apprently solve the problem. However, when I move the iTunes Library file to the desktop and try to reopne iTunes the icon just keeps bouncing and when I right click the application does not respond.
This problem is only resolved if I restart/shut down my macbook pro which is a 15-inch Core 2 Duo with intel. It will be 5 years old in December. I currently have Lion and the latest iTunes 10.5. This problem started in late December.

If you hold down the option key when starting iTunes, it will allow you to select a library or create a new one.
You can create a new one, and then add all of your iTunes music back in by simply dragging the old iTunes music file onto iTunes.
