Files missing in time line??

Hi All....some of my files in the timeline have a strange icon...like missing files or footage. I notice the play back is not as good quality as files that are not with this icon. Any idea what to do???

Find your thumbnail cache files and trash them.

  • How do I get my file into the time line in Premiere Pro CC?

How do I get my file into the time line in Premiere Pro CC? I am use to Premier Pro CS6 and unfortunately my labtop took a crash and I lost all of my adobe products. I wanted to check out a trial version and I cannot seem to find one for CS6! Please Help Me! My project is due tonight!!!!!

    Hi Aneumann,
    Welcome to the Forums.
You have to just right click on the clip imported, in the project panel and select new sequence from clip. You can also go to file menu>new>sequence and create a sequence and then drag the clips after importing them , into the timeline.

  • Render file reappears in time line

I have found playback of one section (about 3 sec) my time line does not reflect the actual clips...the playback reverts to what i imagine is an old render file of a different clip. I notice the blue render bar above the new clips. a workaround is to pull the clips back from this blue zone (the blue render bar reappears if i just slide the clips back in place) and then offset the whole sequence from the zone of the erratic render file. when i bring the clips back in, it is gone.
however, when i exported as an mp2, the render file is back in the same spot relative to the new clips!
    any suggestions? thanks!

thank you for your kind suggestions. I will try them next time...I found an indirect workaround which was successful. I had a third video track which was toggled off. I had a couple unused video clips there (unrelated to this rebel render file). I removed the clips and the track, and did not have the problem of the rogue renderf ile again. don't ask me why....
thanks for all your thoughts and suggestions!
oh and by the way, I meant "mpeg 2" by the mp2.

  • When I drag the imported video files to the time-line it only recognizes audio - would anyone know why?

This happened 2 days ago. Before everything was working normal. Since yesterday each time I import a video and drag it to the time line, it only allows me the drag the audio portion of the file. Even those files which I uploaded several days earlier and
worked perfectly fine - now even those files are only showing audio when dragged to the timeline. I hope I didn't make my question too confusing.
I have adobe premier PRO CC 2014 and I bought it vie creative cloud.
Would anyone know why is this happening all of the sudden?

  • Scary Message Every Import  from my Sony PMW 320 XDCAM EX  Clip Files w/ Completed Time LIne

    Hello
This is the 3rd question I've posted working my way through my first edit (and HD edit) with Premiere Pro CS5.5, and I have a completed time line with the basic edit for an important event, my first for a client I hope to work for again.  Am now working on the title sequence at the beginning and also a "recap" with music and highlights at the very end.  Then I will be trying my first burn to a bluray -R disk on the LG 12x internal BRD unit in a high performance Mac Pro I had built at OWC.  10.7.5 Lion currently.
    3 types of files:
    1.  1080i 29.97 upper frame first, standard 1080i settings......from my B camera footage from a Sony NEX 5N.  28mbps I believe.  Example clip:  00018.MTS.  No issues or messages on the imports into the Project window.
    2.  Backup files same settings but 50mbps from Nanoflash recorder attached to my PMW 320 camcorder through the HD SDI output.  Example clip:  01253001.MTX.
Both of these above I just dragged their entire folders onto my internal master 2 disc Raid 0.  And then imported just the "clips" from each into the project window in each's own bin or folder.
    3.  Same scenario with my main files copying them from the large camcorder.  Example clip:  159_0221_01.MP4.  35mbps.  All 3 of these types of files have 29.97 fps indicated to the right.
But in the Project window when I selected initially all the clips from the drop downs inside the folder from the PMW 320 on the Master drive, and since then just some individual clips.....I keep getting this::  A window with "File Import Failure" in the top header and 5 lines of all the Volume codings within that Folder in the message box, and below it, "Error Message"  "File format not supported"  with an active "OK" button.  Which I have clicked and then gone ahead and worked with them.
But the clips in question are all in the project window and load fine into the Program Window or drag fine directly to the time line.  I have completed the whole sequence save for what I mentioned above.  Color correction, audio adjustments, slo motion, freeze frames, transitions, everything.  I have even taken a short piece of the time line and done experimental exports to self contained "Animation" codec clip,  H.264 clip and an MPEG 4 clip.  All were successful.  Last step coming soon will be export to 1080i 29.97 bluray.
I believe I have seen "MPEG 4" in the codec info on the PMW 320's clips.  Being that Premiere is supposed to handle every codec no problem, and that it seems to have done just that, what is going on here with these messages??  I have a ton of hours into this 1st edit and it all seems to work.  Do I not need to worry about this message even if I don't understand why I am getting it?
    Thanks much
    Ron

All that shows is the clips themselves, but yes I guess that could be happening.  So in the future from the PMW 320 import them 1st into Media Browser and then to the Project window?  (before taking them to Source window or directly to the time line)  Or just leave them in the Media Browser, and work it from there?
In the meantime, the fact it has all worked and seems to be working, would you think I'm OK since I've been able to do up to a massive 156gb Animation codec 16 minute portion of the sequence while I was first experimenting?   I am likely going to try the Dynamic Link function and Auto settings into Encore, straight from my time line of around 90 minutes.  Per the suggestion of Ann here in one of my other threads asking about that part.  Just to see if I can mail it on time on Tuesday if it looks good.

  • Files Missing From Time Machine Backup

I had a system crash and I'm trying to move the files from my time machine backup onto my new computer.
The problem is that many of my files, which I know where on my desktop in folder at the time of the backups, seem to be missing. I can find the folder, but about three quarters of the files from it are gone. The ones that are in it appear to be mostly newer files that I had created not long before the last backups and the crash. As far as I go back, the files seem to be missing.
Anyone know what might be going on?
Does it have to do with which user I'm logged in as? Would that change what files I can see?
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

Thanks for the comment. I did use the Migration Asst. to move her data and most did move, but key information, like the Safari Bookmarks, the addresses in the Address Book, and every file in the Documents folder were all missing. I finally called Apple and the tech there solved the problem. The source of the problem is that when she registered the new Mac mini, she used a slightly different User name, which then made it impossible for the new Mini to communicate with the external Backup data. The tech walked me through a multiple step process that involved adding a suffix to the original user name and so on, which has made available all the original data on the new mini.
This is the second time in the last few years that a change in the administrator user name has created an enormous problem. While Apple notes that this user name is important, there should be a more thorough explanation of how it functions and the serious consequences that can occur if is not husbanded properly.

  • Shared File Missing from Time Capsule

This morning all of my shared files are missing.  There used to be two folders in the time capsule file and now there is only one "DATA" which is where our workstation backups go.  The other one was a Shared File where we put all of the files we shared across the network.   The DATA file is there, but the Shared file is completely missing.  I have tried searching the individual workstations and I cannot find it or anything that was within it.   Any ideas how to find/restore it?

Very strange stuff happens.. let me tell you .. if you put a computer onto yosemite .. even one..even briefly.. like a laptop someone bought in and connected to the TC,  it can do some very odd stuff to the network files.. permissions is a big big issue.
Time Machine cannot backup network drives.. so sharing files from the TC is always a very very bad idea. The TC is designed purely as a backup target for Time Machine. It should be used very carefully beyond its design parameters.. since it cannot back itself up either.
I still think the files are there.. unless it was deliberately deleted.
I don't think you will like my suggestions to get the files back though.
But here is an odd one.. get /borrow /lone a PC laptop running windows.. and load up the airport utility onto it. Then open the TC disk in windows explorer.. type the name directly into the address bar..
\\TCname.local or \\TCIPaddress (where you replace the TCname with actual NETWORK name (which is not its name as shown on the TC if it has spaces and illegal characters).. that is why using the actual IP is easier.. TCIPaddress replace with IPv4 address eg 10.0.1.1
Windows cannot read Mac permissions so tends to open everything. It cannot read it correctly all the file info sometimes but you will quickly see what is there and what is missing.
    Another suggestion.
Full factory reset of the TC. No files on the hard disk are changed doing this.
    Factory reset universal
Power off the TC.. ie pull the power cord or power off at the wall.. wait 10sec.. hold in the reset button.. be gentle.. power on again still holding in reset.. and keep holding it in for another 10sec. You may need some help as it is hard to both hold in reset and apply power. It will show success by rapidly blinking the front led. Release the reset.. and wait a couple of min for the TC to reset and come back with factory settings. If the front LED doesn’t blink rapidly you missed it and simply try again. The reset is fairly fragile in these.. press it so you feel it just click and no more.. I have seen people bend the lever or even break it. I use a toothpick as tool.
N.B. None of your files on the hard disk of the TC are deleted.. this simply clears out the router settings of the TC.
Run through the airport utility and use all short names no spaces and pure alphanumerics. Passwords should also match that except longer.. 8-20 characters work well for both.
Now manually mount the disk in Finder.
Use Go, Connect to Server in Finder.. type in
AFP://TCname.loca or TCIPaddress (same as above definitions).
In the new clean mount of the TC disk see if you can locate the directory or folder with your missing files.
Otherwise if the files are important.. you must immediately stop using the TC.. remove its hard disk or get a store to swap disks for you .. and preserve the old one.. use a proper USB to SATA holder and plug it into your Mac and use a file recovery software like Data Rescue 3 to see if the files are deleted but available. I have had success using this method. Even just running disk utility to fix permissions can sometimes get the results you want.
If it is a fairly old TC.. with say a 1 or 2TB disk it is very easy to open the TC and change out the disk.. ask if you are prepared to go this path and we can give you more info.

  • Files missing in Time Machine

Yesterday I had to refresh some local folders on my MBP from a version control system that my company maintains.  Before doing so I had copied my working copies to another folder then after the refresh copied the files I had been working on back to the original folder.  I then deleted the second folder, thinking I no longer needed it.  This morning I realized that there were several image files that I forgot to copy to the original folder from the second folder.  I figured, "no problem, I've been using Time Machine since I switched to the MBP from a hated Windows PC in December."  I opened Time Machine and navigated to several backups from prior to yesterday but those files are nowhere to be found.  Do I just not understand how Time Machine works or is there a problem here?  There are other image files in the folder, just not the ones that are missing.  It appears as if when the files were deleted by the version control refresh yesterday it went back and deleted them from TM, which obviously makes no sense.

    I have a similar experience:
Nearly the same thing happened to me, too.
iMac 27" mid 2011, OSX 10.9.1., external HDD directly connected via Firewire and exclusively used for TimeMachine.
Came to work on monday, booted up the iMac, computer got stuck at the twirling colourful beach ball.
I booted the recovery mode and choose the last backup from late friday.
It worked, but a number of my apps don't remember that they are licensed and some preferences are forgotten.
But that is just inconvenient. I discovered that some files in folders on the desktop are missing. And the last backup in my TimeMachine with these files is more than 1 month old! Everything newer is missing in these folders!
And I am very sure that I did not delete these files because guess what I was working on the last workday before this incident...
I am almost anxious to check all my data - who knows what else is missing!
I checked the exclude list in the system preferences panel and in the plist-file - no, my desktop is not excluded.
Any news on the buggy TimeMachine?

  • Files missing or off line

I reciently downloaded dng files to a removable harddrive.
I can see them in Lightroom (library)but get a message that they are off line or missing when I open the develope module.
I can see them on the hard drive and when I attempt to import them LR says they are already there? I also noticed that about 300 of the dng files went to the harddrive without the jpg thumbnail.

The photos have either been moved, renamed or deleted outside of Lightroom. If they have been moved outside of Lightroom (or if the drive letter has changed, which can happen on Windows computers), then you reconnect them via http://www.computer-darkroom.com/lr2_find_folder/find-folder.htm
By the way, re-importing photos is almost never a good thing to do. It is almost always a bad thing to do. I would advise you to get this idea out of your mind.

  • Files missing after Time Machine backup

I ran Time Machine on my iMac yesterday and all seemed to have gone well with the backup to an external drive. However, when I wanted to open a file from the iMac hard drive, there were several folders missing. I restarted the iMac and still folders are missing. The folders are also missing from yesterday's TM backup but they were certainly on the hard drive when the back up was made. Where did the folders go?

I have this same problem. I only noticed it because of a dead link in my Finder sidebar. I went to restore the files with TM (first time having to restore), and lo and behold, the file was not there at all in the last few months, when I know I used it as little 8 days ago.

  • Backup Files Missing on Time Machine

After reformatting the hard drive on one of my macbooks the backup files seem to have vanished from my Time Machine. After reinstalling Lion on the macbook I decided not to restore from a backup as I believed I could restore selected files. The backup files were present prior to the formatting of the Macintosh Hard Drive as are the backup files for my two other macbooks and imac.
The reformatted imac is now connected to the Time Machine but the backup files seemed to have disappeared prior to time machine being turned back on for this machine.
To me this makes absolutely no sense and I hope someone can assist, as what's happened just doesn't seem logical.
I appologise in advance if I haven't provided enough information.

I too have this exact same problem. I recently replaced my hard drive and before doing so, did an entire system back up. When i went to restore the files onto the new hard drive there doesn't seem to be any files to back up from my time machine. Nothing!!! Pls can someone help?????

  • Files missing on Time Machine backup

    Here is a strange one.
On my Intel MacBook, I am running 10.5.4.
I ordered an Iomega UltraMax External Hard Drive (500 GB, USB+FW) to
use as a time machine. Reviews on it were good; one person stated that
it may be a good idea to reformat the new drive, even though it
    already came HFS+ formatted.
The drive came and I used the FW cable to hook up. Reformatted the
drive as HFS+ Extended & Journaled.
Set it up as the Time Machine Drive and did not add any folders to not
    copy in the setup.
    Clicked "Backup Now".
After it finished, I noticed that about 60 out of 66 GB copied. Some Folders were empty: Applications, Picture, Documents,... (Checked via TM & via Finder).
I took changed the Time Machine disk to none. I could not eject it (In
use) unless I did a restart.
    I reformatted it. Same thing.
Once more, but using USB instead of FW. (Silly, but I had no other
ideas). Same thing. Subsequent TM backups did not correct it.
I don't suspect the drive because of the consistency of the problem. A
scan of this and another forum did not reveal anything similar.
    Any ideas?
    TIA,
    Paul

  • How does one clean out the trash, after putting in a time line file in?

After cleaning out some old files, it was late one night that I put a old file from the Time Line into the trash.  Now how can this be FIXED?

Time Line...? If you mean Time Machine, then you should only delete old backups and files using the Time Machine interface.
If you did a NO NO and moved old Time Machine backups to the Trash using Finder? Then go to > Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions 12 and scroll down to the section in gray for the solution.

  • CS4: How can I copy named potions of the time line to the projects panel?

I am trying to copy named portion of my time line to the project panel & I can't past the segment.
I copied a large AVI file to the time line, split it up into sections, & am trying to place the individual rename section into the Projects Panel. I can Copy the segment, but when I try to Paste it into the Projects Panel the Paste command is not "lighted up".
How can I copy named potions of the time line to the projects panel?

I found a way albeit a tedious method:
positioned the render bar( I do not know the proper name) to encompass each segment separately.
    Exported that segment to Media.
Media in turn transferred the segment to the Media Encoder program.
The Media Encoder, after processing the segments, deposited the files in a temporary folder.
Lastly, imported the content of the folder to the Project Panel,
Thank you for all your suggestions.

  • Text file: reading char one at a time line by line

I need to read an external .txt file, one character at a time, line by line, and compare each character in order to do various things. The problem is that when I use the Buffered Reader I have only readLine() method and others to work with, but none that actually read a character at a time, and line by line. The program has to read a character, then move to the next one and read it, and so on. Then move to the next line, and read the first character, and so on. I am working with chars not Strings. Could you please help me with this problem?

InputStreamReader can read a single char.
    InputStreamReader isr = new InputStreamReader(InputStream in);
isr.read(); will return 1 character from "in".
