  • Old podcasts not being deleted from hard drive

Can anyone help me with this problem? I currently have the "keep only unplayed podcasts" selected. ITunes synchs great with my Nano. If a podcast is played, it is taken off of the Nano.
The problem is that the podcast is not also deleted from my hard drive. I have to manually delete the file and "move to recycle bin." Does anyone know a way of having ITunes actually delete the file from the hard drive? I don't want to waste so much space.
    I am using ITunes 7.

    I'm running a managed library.
Let me see if I can understand this. The problem has to do with the place I was looking at. I was looking in the pictures folder in the hard drive. Now, the pictures inside the iPhoto library are the ones that are deleted from the hard drive, and the ones in the Pictures folder are not being touched at all. So I have two separate folders with pictures: the iPhoto library folder and the Pictures folder inside the hard drive.
Since I'm going to be using iPhoto exclusively I might as well delete that other Pictures folder in the hard drive. If I delete the pictures in this folder, would that affect the pictures I have in the iPhoto Library? I'm thinking no since iPhoto has made copies of all those pictures. What do you think?

  • Photos I delete in library are not being deleted from hard drive

Help please. I have been trying to delete photos from the iPhoto library (Events and Photos) and emptying the iPhoto trash can. This is supposed to erase them from the hard drive. However, when I look in the hard drive in the Pictures folder, the photos I deleted are still there. Could someone tell me what might be wrong? Thanks!

  • Elements 11 will not properly import from hard drive video of 352 x 480.  Audio is fine.

Hello All,  I'm wanting to import VHS video that was burned to a DVD.  Frame size is 352 x 480.  Elements shows it, even after rendering, as very distorted video on the monitor panel.  Audio is fine. Anybody here have an idea how to conform my video to the Project?

    alexmorgan43
    Thank you for the reply.
(Note: It would be better also to know...frame rate and progressive or interlaced video...NTSC or PAL setup...but for now....with some assumptions...
Although I have never run into a DVD-VIDEO video file with the 352 x 480 (4:3) resolution, it does exist apparently.
DVD-Video - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
From my perspective, if your client's goal is DVD-VIDEO format on DVD disc for this source, I do not see that Premiere Elements (any version)
is going to produce a DVD-VIDEO on DVD disc with video files 352 x 480 (4:3). It will give you (NTSC) 720 x 480 4:3 @ 29.97 interlaced frames per second
    or (PAL) 720 x 576 4:3 @ 25 interlaced frames per second.
If your client can settle for your 352 x 480 (4:3) source exported to a file saved to the computer hard drive, then Premiere Elements 11 can give you a MPEG2.mpg
    file with a 352 x 480 4:3 resolution.
But, assuming the NTSC DVD-VIDEO on DVD disc workflow....with Frame Width = 480 pixels and Frame Height = 352 pixels...But if this is really portrait rather than
landscape oriented video, then we have other considerations not mentioned below....and I suspect we may be going in that direction...the answers will be in the details...
    1. Open Premiere Elements 11 to the Expert workspace. Go to File Menu/New/Project and Change Settings.
    2. In Change Setting, select
    NTSC
    FLIP
    Flip Mino and Ultra 29_97p
OK out of there. In the New Project dialog that next appears,
make sure that you have a check mark next to Force Selected Project Settings on This Project. OK out of there.
    3. Back in the Expert workspace, import your VTS_02_1.VOB using the project's Add Media/Files and Folders to get
the file into Projects Assets from where it is dragged to the Timeline.
(Typically the DVD-VIDEO's video files start with VTS_01_1.VOB, but not always. This may be one of those not always times. Just
check that your video is represented in those video files (VTS_).
    4. Edit, Add Menu if you want.
    5. Publish+Share/Disc/DVC disc with preset NTSC_Dolby DVD for the NTSC DVD-VIDEO Standard 4:3 on DVD disc
@ 29.97 interlaced frames per second.
    6. Moment of truth...what does that look like on your TV's DVD player.
Please review and consider and then we can fine tune if my assumptions did not meet your actual details.
    Thanks.

  • Podcasts not being Removed from my Ipod

I have several old podcasts that I have deleted from my ITUNES that for some reason, are not being deleted from my ipod...? The podcasts are not showing up in my itunes, so not sure how to clear them out from my ipod?? Thanks in advance for your help.

The most likely culprit is a playlist that's getting synced to your iPod.
The big change in this area in 7.7 is that all podcasts, even ones in playlists, appear in the iPod's Podcasts section. Before 7.7 the only episodes that appeared in the Podcasts section were ones that you synced in the Podcasts tab.
The interesting thing is that this change affects only what shows up in the iPod's Podcasts section, it doesn't affect the files that are actually transferred to the iPod.
To check this, find one of the episodes with the play count >= 1 in your iTunes library. Right click (or control click) the episode, and in the contextual menu go to Show In Playlist. See what playlists appear in that list. (Show In Playlist is right under Add To Playlist. If I'm wrong, Show In Playlist won't be there at all.)

  • Photo Connect - delete w/o removing from hard drive

How do I remove jpg files from connected photo without removing them from my hard drive?
    Thanks

    Hello etu,
I do not use Connected Photo but according to the manual, the only way to remove an image off the Connected Photo viewer is to delete the photo. It looks like it has very limited customization ability.
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c04016159&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en#N649
It looks like it acts a Browser for your User files and does not create a virtual catalog to the files. IF it did, you could remove the reference without deleting the file like you can in Adobe Lightroom.
I do not know if it is programed to only search certain folders or if it scans the entire drive.
Have you tried moving those unwanted images to a different folder not in the My Photos folder to see if it releases the view of that image? That is, create a new folder named something else besides Photos and put it outside the main User folders of My Photos, My Documents, My Videos, etc.
Do let me know if this works, otherwise it does not look like there is anything else you can do.
    Thanks.

  • DVD Files not completely copied to hard drive

I recently bought a new Macbook and seem to be having problems with the DVD drive. I am trying to pull home movies off of DVD's and put into a format for Apple TV. I seem to have all the right software and the conversion process works well.
I tried using MPEG Stream Clip, directly from the DVD and then from the Hard Drive (.vob files I copied). However, when trying to "read" the DVD, I keep getting error messages. Also, when I try to copy the .vob files from the DVD, it stops copying at random points for the same DVD, for random files. Some work and some don't. I have to Force the Quit, reboot and start over, and it stops again, at a different point in the copying process. If I take the same DVD to my PC, it copies fine, so I do not suspect the physical DVD.
Could the Macbook DVD drive be reading the DVD too fast? Is there a way to slow it down if this is the case?
I also get the same type of problem when using MPEG Stream Clip. The DVD just seems to stop. I put the same DVD into the PC and run MPEG Stream Clip, and it goes through the whole process without a hitch.
Please help, as I really want to use this new Macbook and experience all it has to offer.

    In answer to your questions:
"how do i find out which 140 could not be converted"
Do a search on your pc (in the folder you told iTunes to look at) for all files containing the extension .wma. Now if you wish you can cut and paste them into another folder somewhere else on your hard drive.
You may find Wikipedia's page useful (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WindowsMediaAudio) as this lists the media players that can play wma audio files.
Another thing you may want to consider is converting your wma files to mp3 so they can be played in iTunes. There are lots of programs that can do this and many are free. Just do a search in Google.
If you have iTunes set up to add album and track information to music as it is imported to the library, this can sometimes result in giving you a misleading figure for how many tracks/albums you've got. The cause of this is described in the following technical document - http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304389.
As an example I imported 'Classic Euphoria' (a dance album compilation). Each track on the cd is by a different artist. When I imported the cd into iTunes I expected it to create a one folder called ‘Classic Euphoria’ with all of the tracks contained within that folder. Instead, iTunes created a separate folder for each track as each track was by a different artist. If iTunes does this, then this is how you can end up with iTunes telling you, you have more albums than you were expecting! This may be what you’re experiencing. If you have any compilation CDs, follow the steps in the Technical Document above where it says ‘Albums with various artists’ and this will tidy up how your music is organised.
I hope all of this makes sense. Let me know how you get on.

  • Microsoft files not opening in external hard drive anymore

    Hi,
I've been saving my files from my Documents to my external hard drive but for the last couple of days the Microsoft files won't open anymore. If I save a file from a USB to the External hard drive it works fine (although if I then move this file to a folder already created in my external hard drive, I get the same message preventing me from opening the doc: "Word cannot open this document. The document might be in use, might not be a valid Word document, or the file might contain invalid characters.") but if I transfer the file from my documents on my mac to the external hard drive, it won't open.
Similarly, I've created a new Word document and tried to save it directly onto my external hard drive but this message came up: "word cannot save due to a naming or permissions error on the destination volume".
I've tried linking up the external hard drive to a PC rather than my mac and Microsoft documents do open.
My external hard drive format is MS-DOS (Fat32).
I'm really not sure what the problem is and am starting to freak out as all my files are saved on the external hard drive.
    Many thanks for your help

I found a solution that worked for me on the topic "Windows 7 & 7310" . Below is the solution:
HP have created a new workaround to make it easier to fix this problem.
All you need to do now is go to the ftp site listed below and download and run the exe file.
This exe will recognize the version of the OS you are running and put the dll in the correct place.

  • Files imported into Project from hard drive - big problem

I am a new user of Aperture (v2.1), having been a Lightroom user. I had lots of files on my hard drive organized by year and subject.
I imported them into separate new project folders (choosing the option of leaving them in their current location when importing). All looks great in my project folders when I am in Aperture, and everything is where it should be.
Now here's the problem . . . when I use Finder and look into the folder the images were stored in, the folders are still there with the photos still inside, but now there are many individual file folders, each with one image inside (RAW) . . . so, say I had 50 raw images in my original folder on my hard disk, I now have that folder and 50 other individual folders, each with the file name of the one image that is inside the folder. As you can imagine, this is using up a lot of disk space.
I hope someone can help with this. I figure I am doing something wrong, but in searching for answers, I could not find anything about this problem.
Thanks in advance for any help on this.

Have you tried searching for something like IMG_1234.jpg
Or your regular file name format.

  • Log files not being removed.

    Hello,
I've upgraded an application from BerkeleyDB 5.1.25 to 5.3.21, and after that, log files are no more automatically removed. This is the only change in the application. It's an application written in C.
The environment of the application is created with the flag DB_LOG_AUTO_REMOVE
    dbenv->log_set_config(dbenv, DB_LOG_AUTO_REMOVE, TRUE).
The application has a thread to periodically checkpoint the data
    dbenv->txn_checkpoint(dbenv, 0, 0, 0)
So far, so good, with version 5.1.25, this was enough to remove unused log files (I don't need to be able to do catastrophic recovery). But this doesn't work anymore with version 5.3.21.
I I run db_archive (no options), it shows nothing, suggesting that all log files are still needed. But if I run db_hot_backup on the database, all but the last logfiles are removed (on the backup) as wanted.
Rem : Usually, I don't want to run db_archive or any external tool, to remove unused log files. I hope what is inside the application is enough to remove unused log files.
Is this something known, something changed or can you suggest me something to look for ?
    Thanks for your help

thank you for giving us a test program. This helped tremendously to fully understand what you are doing. In 5.3 we fixed a bug dealing with the way log files are archived in an HA environment. What you are running into is the consequences of that bug fix. In the test program you are using DB_INIT_REP. This is the key to use that you want an HA environment. With HA, there is a master and some number of read only clients. By default we treat the initiating database as the master. This is what is happening in our case. In an HA (replicated) environment, we cannot archive log files until we can be assured that the clients have applied the contents of that log file. Our belief is that you are not really running in an HA environment and you do not need the DB_INIT_REP flag. In our initial testing where we said it worked for us, this was because we did not use the DB_INIT_REP flag, as there was no mention of replication being needed in the post.
Recommendation: Please remove the use of the DB_INIT_REP flag or properly set up an HA environment (details in our docs).
    thanks

  • Roles not being removed from CC5.2

After we run a full sync for users and roles we are still finding roles in CC 5.2 that have been removed/deleted from the SAP backend systems.

    HI,
Try with a new job and for being on the safer side select all of the choices for full Sync - i.e profile, role and users. Also, select the relevant options for your system for the Batch Risk Analysis and the Management Reports too.
Sometimes it is a common problem that Management reports show data for a role to be in Risk, which does not even exist because we did not check this option of Management reports while running the BG job.
This might take a bit of longer time but will be accurate.
    Regards,
    Hersh.

  • Photos can not be deleted from hard drive

this has been covered elsewhere but in my case
my photos are stored on a networked pc and the iphoto is run from a mac
deleting photos and emptying the iphoto trash only deletes
the thumbnails from the pictures/iphoto folder on the mac
but the photos are still on the pc
this makes it almost impossible to organize and get rid of stuff
any help would be great, thanks

Are you running iPhoto in it's alias mode? That is, not copying the files into the library folder but just use alias files pointing to the "source" files wherever they are located, in this case on the networked PC? If that's the case then, yes, the "source" files are not deleted when you delete photos from the library. That's one of the "downsides" of the alias system (or upside in the case of using the alias system to share between multiple users). It's not a bug but sort of a "feature" for that system.
If you want to have the control to delete the source files then start a regular library located on the PC and import all of the source files to it. Then run the library from the PC. You'll essentially achieve the same thing as the alias system as far as keeping files off your Mac, but you'll have the deletion capability. I've written some Tutorials on the alias system and you might find some info there that might help you use it more effectively.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.

  • Old podcasts not being removed from 2nd gen nano since iTunes 7.2

I have been very annoyed lately that, since the iTunes 7.2 update, my nano keeps all old podcasts. I much prefer to not have the ones I have finished listening to continuing to update to my ipod. I do not want to delete all old podcasts from iTunes and am getting tired of having to manually delete the ones I have heard. Sometimes I have heard only half of one, and I don't like having to keep track of which is which. I have "synch all unplayed" selected under "ipod" on the syncing page in itunes. Anyone else have this problem? Any solutions? I already tried reseting (the thing does this on its own all the time anyway), and I reinstalled the software as well.

Hello FrayedSo, Sorry to read your having a difficult time with your shuffle and podcasts.
As you mentioned earlier this is your second shuffle and it is able to play songs you purchase or put onto it but it skips past the Podcasts.
Are you playing these podcasts as part of a Playlist? or is this happening in shuffle mode?
Some of the things you could do to possibly assist with troubleshooting your issue are below.
Make sure to Consolidate your iTunes Library so all your information is backed up to your iTunes Music folder. You can do this by going to Advanced-Consolidate Library.
To quote a part in Knowledge Base 30058
"Playing Audiobooks and podcasts on iPod shuffle
When iPod shuffle is set to shuffle songs it will play all the audio files on iPod shuffle that are not audiobooks. Podcasts of type .m4b or AAC will not play on iPod shuffle when it is in shuffle mode, which is the intended behavior, although a podcast of type .mp3 or .wav may play while in shuffle mode. To play an audiobook or podcast that is on iPod shuffle, set the switch on iPod shuffle to play in order."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300558
Another thing you could try. Create a new user account on your Windows System and download some podcasts and sync it to your shuffle and see if the same issue occurs.
