Files not linking in iTunes 7.0

After upgrading to version 7 of iTunes I noticed that some mp3 files that normally show up in the browse menu under the artist's name didn't show up. I checked, and iTunes had switched the music folder it was using from my external drive, to the one on the main drive, which I hadn't been using before. I switched back to the other drive's folder, but this did not fix the problem. I tried searching in iTunes but couldn't find them so I seached my desktop and found the files in the music folder under podcasts (both drives). I tried dragging the files to iTunes, but it did not add them to the library or play them if I double clicked. The funny thing was that some of the files were still in a playlist and played fine, but didn't appear in the library. I tried consolidating my music but that didn't work. I then tried loading the files onto my nano, and it seemed like they were copying, but didn't appear in iTunes. When I ejected the nano, however, the songs showed up fine. These files are not the only ones affected; I'd say maybe 10% also don't show up. These files were recorded to mp3 from a real audio stream and set up to be bookmarkable. Please tell me why they are invisible!

Previously, the iPod playlist could be optionally shown all the time
Do you mean the playlists on the iPod or the music on the iPod? These are two completely different things.
even when the ipod isn't plugged in. Nice because you could go ahead and build the playlist before plugging it in and it would just start syncing. Now it looks like that option is gone, when the ipod is unplugged, you can't even see what files are on the ipod.
You seem to have something confused.
You have never been able to see what is on the iPod unless it is plugged in.
I have playlists in iTunes and those playlists are selected to sync with my iPod.
I edit those playlists whenever I want.
When I want to update my iPod, I plug it in and and changes I made to those playlists, get put onto the iPod.

  • MP3 files not showing in iTunes on new iMac

Hi - I have recently purchased my first Mac computer.  I have copied over all of my music but it seems that all the MP3 files are not playing.  It's strange they show in my folder list of itunes and it lets me play them, but in the main itunes folder itself it shows the item with an ! (exclamation mark) saying file could not be found.  Any ideas greatly appreciated
    Thanks

First, iTunes' default settings are for it to copy music to the iTunes folder structure when you add them (but leave the original in place, although it no longer refers to it), and for iTunes to manage your music for you in a very specific folder structure.
Second, the listing you see in iTunes is not generated by iTunes directly referring to your files.  It keeps a library database of the files you have added and in those listings it keeps all the information about that track, including its location on your drive. When you play a track, iTunes uses that listing to go find the media file and play it.
If you do any file renaming, manually deleting, or moving of files and folders, or anything to break that link between where iTunes' library thinks your file is and where it actually is (or was, if you deleted it), you get "!"
You say you are able to play them but iTunes cannot find them.  It would help to know how you are playing them if iTunes cannot find them.  Are you playing them in Quicktime?  Also, you say you see the files, but are they in the iTunes folder structure (assuming you use default settings), or are these the originals?

  • Certain MP3 files not recognized in iTunes

I have found many .mp3's that are in my music folder (on hard drive) but NOT in my iTunes library, dispite the fact that they were all manually added to the library at the same time. This may seem trivial, but when you have over 30,000 songs, it's hard to know which ones are not shown in iTunes.
I've noticed that the ID3 tags in some of these songs are only using Version 2 ID3 tags and not also using version 1. When I update the tag (using WinAmp) to include both v1 and v2 the songs are automatically recognized by iTunes. One might sumize that iTunes requires ID3v1, but I have many, many songs without v1 tags that are recognized fine.
Any ideas why iTunes doesn't recognize these songs and what I can do to figure out which of the 30,000+ .mp3 files needs to be updated??

While performing 1st time backup for my iPad to iTunes MacBook, the process was interrupted halfway through. As such, I deleted the registered backup file from iTunes Devices Preferences/device/device backup and attempted to reinitiate the backup process. I have to restart MacBook because the iTunes File/Devices turns grey and I am not able to click on it. Restarting gets me to inititiate the back up and transfer purchase. The problem now the device name is not appearing at iTunes Devices Preferences/device/device backup. I am not sure if the backup is successful/complete and if so where is the files? How do I make the file appear so I can transfer the data / apps to my new ipad air via iTunes. Pls help...

  • Files not created with iTunes do not play from remote iTunes library

I hve ripped a large part of my CD collection into music files into FLAC format. I have since converted my music files from FLAC into Apple Lossless Audio Codec (ALAC) format and imprted them into iTunes.
The files play with no problem on iTunes if they are on a local iTunes library. Furthermore, all metadata such as tags and album cover art information are properly displayed in iTunes. This is true whether I'm running iTunes on a Windows XP box or a Mac OS X box. I have since imported many other CDs into my iTunes library using iTunes to encode into ALAC.
If I share the iTunes library on my Windows XP machine to iTunes running on a Mac OS X box or to an Apple TV, I can:
*play songs that were imported directly using iTunes
*not play any songs that were not created with iTunes
This behavior is true whether I'm trying to play them from either a Mac or from an Apple TV.
If I copy the *.m4a files to the Mac and import them to the iTunes library I have no problems playing them on the Mac. I have not tried sharing the iTunes library on the Mac and tried accessing the files from the Apple TV or the Windows PC.
    Any thoughts?

Fix: optimize m4a files moving the meta data to the beginning, whilst optionally creating a hint track (used for streaming m4a over Apple Airtunes).

  • My ipad is disabled, its not linked to itunes so how do i get it working again.

Please can anyone help me, my ipad is disabled and will not let me use it, am being asked to link to itunes but it has not been linked to any itunes so i dont know what i can do to get it working again.
    can anyone help me.
    Thanks

It will need to be connected to a computer to unlock it - from that first link :
If you repeatedly enter the wrong passcode, your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch will be disabled for longer intervals before you can try again. After too many unsuccessful attempts, you won't be able to try again until you connect it to the computer with which you last synced it.
If you restore on a different computer that was never synced with the device, you will be able to unlock the device for use and remove the passcode, but your data will not be present.
Recovery mode is usually needed to get a disabled iPad into a state where it will be recognised by a computer - without putting the iPad into it, iTunes on the computer is likely to expect you to type in the (forgotten) passcode lock on the iPad.

  • Files not found by iTunes

We've been running into an issue where our xml files will not refresh in the Public Site Manager. We receive error messages like this one:
We also error messages like this one when we try to upload a new collection:
This has been happening on multiple collections (not just one). Each time we try to refresh, a different audio/video file is shown as missing. So for the screenshot above, the next time we try to add that feed, it might be "smh_019.m4v" or "smh_007.m4v" that is missing. We haven't found a pattern for the audio/video files that are supposedly missing.
The files are definitely on our server in the correct location (we can reach them by typing the url directly into our browser). We also have validated our XML files using multiple feed validators.
This issue happened about a year ago, and one day it just went away, and uploading/refreshing went back to normal. It was working properly until about a month or so ago, and we began getting these same error messages again.

Where are you bringing the songs in from? The backup discs? If so, try manually adding the songs to your iTunes music folder location. Are the songs on the disc in the "new" file naming scheme. If not you should be able to place the files directly into your iTunes music folder, then replace the database files with your good ones, and be fine.

  • Project files not linking

    Hi,
I needed to go back to a project I left last summer, 10 different videos on a specific topic, and to my shock, the project files aren´t showing up in Final Cut. The original files / Event files seem to be all there and I have saved master files of the movies I made, but some were only saved at 480.
Searching the hard drive, I´m pretty sure I can see them - if they are the Render Files / High Quality Media etc...? But they´re in the Movie folder, not in FCX projects and they´re not linking to the Project Library in the editing software.
The reason for this I can think of, is that I possibly edited them in the Trial version of FCX, and now have installed the full upgrade. Or, I could simply have moved them over when I didn´t understand how it all worked (and still don´t ;-) and the link has been lost.
I assume I should just be able to transfer them in to the Project folder in Final Cut Pro...?
If it´s something to do with the Trial version - I seem to not have deleted it yet - should I start with deleting it or could that do further damage (can´t see what help it´s doing now anyway!)
I´m petrified of losing the files completely as I´m not very savvy with how the data links between files and project etc, any advice warmly welcome!!
I can send screen capture of file extensions etc if that helps clarify what files they are and how they should be linked back.
    Thanks!

If your project files aren't being seen by the app, it's likely that they were moved.
If located on the start-up drive, they should be in Movies>Final Cut Projects>your project. Otherwise FCP won't see them. The actual project file is named CurrentVersion.fcp.
On a non-start-up drive, the Final Cut Projects folder needs to be at the root level for FCP to see it.
The same thing goes for the Final Cut Events folder.
So check those folders to make sure they're in the right places on your system.

  • MFX Files not linking issues in the sequence using Premiere CC Pro

We are using Panasonic P-2 cards and the Infocus to capture video as MFX files. This creates a series of  files which are linked via an XML file. In Premiere 6 and earlier, these files were linked (approx. 2 min. of video each) as one stream - only one of the files were necessary to use within the program. Using Premiere CC, this feature does not seem to work as before. Are we missing something in the settings, or does this version not support MFX files as before?

    It's not normal on Windows.

  • Video files not playing in iTunes

In iTunes on OS Lion on an iMac, I started getting an error message that the "video needs QuickTIme and it is no longer supported by iTunes." What gives? The files are m4v and won't play even 5 minutes after I download them.
If I download them to my MacBook then access them through the shared media, they will play and become part of the library on the iMac. Seems like a lot of bother just to watch a video.
Anyone have a clue about what's going on?

Sorry about not being more precise; I usually grab an image to save, but didn't this time.....yes, that's it.
Checked the link. Did as I was instructed, and it seems to work ok now; HOWEVER, when I first got the iMac about four weeks ago, everything worked perfectly after ai set it up and migrated everything from my Mini. I had a system crash on 2 desktops, and had to restore both of them. The Mac mini is just as good as it was before, and the iMac is still a bit schizophrenic. The iTunes thing was one of the delusions.
I read about 32- and 64-bit, but still don't know about the resulting effect and whether it means under-utilizing the iMac.
Will keep searching. Thanks for the tip.

  • Music files not available on iTunes Match

Recently purchased a 1 year-subscription to iTunes Match and uploaded my entire iTunes library: 145GB - 11000 files, mainly music files and some podcasts, right.
However, I'm very surprised to find out that plenty of my music files have NOT been uploaded to the cloud (icone with a strike on the cloud).
    Could somebody tell me why?
The concerned files were mainly ripped by iTunes from my OWN CDs and are readily availabe for sale (pay download) on many online music shops and on iTunes Store also.
Please, find below only some examples:
amy winehouse - back to back
andrew bird - andrew bird and the mysterious production of eggs
    brad mehldau - largo
    chateau flight - puzzle
death in vegas - satan's circus
    gary moore - after hours
    grateful dead - american beauty
    and so forth....
Is there a way I could get those missing files to upload to the cloud?

The "get info", cmd-i, on the file while on the cloud displayed 256 kbps and displayed also "matched".
Another thing about the whole thing I didn't know: now that i've downloaded the mentioned file and deleted it from the MBA without deleting it from the cloud, well, there seems to be no way back!
    I mean:
    - icloud status column says: "downloaded" (although it's NOT on the MBA anymore), which is kinda misleading.
    - icloud icon: cloud with download arrow, which means (probably...) that the file can be downloaded again
    - get info (supposedly info about the icloud version of the file...) says now: 160 kbps.
Note: i shut down iTunes and opened it again to make sure the display got refreshed since i don't know where the iTunes "refresh" command is.
All that to say that I'm not sure that iCloud allows us to download an original 160 kbps file to a 256 kbps, which seems in fact too good to be true. But who knows...

  • How Do I Quickly Find Music Files Not Used By iTunes So I Can Delete Them?

Hello, I have deleted many songs from my Windows iTunes library; but, the music files remain on my hard drive and are taking up space.  I need to quickly and efficiently find these music files to delete them.  I would prefer to not have to download another utility to accomplish this.
While I now have iTunes setup so that any future deletions will prompt me to move the music file to the recycle bin, I want to clean-up my hard drive.
Thanks in advance for your help!

How did you Migrate? On original Startup, or after starting up and creating a user.
If the latter, then you migrated data is in the migrated user's account.
If that is the case, log into the other account and move the music into the /Users/Shared folder. Then, log into the account you want to use and import the music into iTunes.
If that is not the case, please explain where your music is located.

  • Why do some .mp3 files not appear in iTunes yet play in other players?

I am running iTunes 6.0.4.2 and use it as my default player in Windows. I have noticed that sometimes I cannot add some .mp3s to my library (they don't appear at all), yet I can play them without problem in Windows Media Player. This is true of both the "Add File" & "Add Folder" options. Can anyone suggest why this is so? Thanks.

    Hello,
I have the same problem here in Belgium/Europe after upgrading to iTunes 10.
About 10gb of 310Gb in total is not readable anymore. I use only mp3 320kbps.
You can still find them back in iTunes, but no playback anymore.
I have deleted them from the list and do a "add to library". Impossible to import this data anymore.
What is strange is that this mp3 data can be used in QuickTime Player.
And..the same data is not readable on a another (Windows 7) pc with iTunes 10, neither on a pc with Vista and iTunes 9.2.
    Who can help ??
