Files on mp4 can't play subtitles

Hello there I'am having a problem that when i stream to my TV, via DLNA, if i play some movie on MP4 it won't play the subtitles, i tried already to rebuild the DLNA base and tried several files and it won't play. The solution i got it's to convert to mkv and then it works.. Someone has a solution to play MP4 files with subtitles? Btw. the FW is v04.01.04-422 Thanks

Ten minutes.Occasionally the SRT files from online SRT sites are not properly formed (or created) and as such the DLNA client will not recognize and play the file alongside the MP4 (or other formatted) video file. Lots of -8008 errors on iTunes 11 OS X 10.7.5 and files say iTunes can not play with with this version of Quicktime

So my iTunes library is to big for local storage and I'm hosting my iTunes library on a NAS box, worked 90% of the time, some errors here and there but it was tolerable. Since I've update to iTunes 11 most of my downloads fail to -8008 errors and eventually -50. Downloads did fail like this before, but rarely, on previous version; yes I restarted them and they would download fully. However, lately everything is giving me -8008 or -50, and after the downloads get half way they restart from the beginning then eventually die and error out to -8008 or -50. It still happens when I re-direct the library back to the local drive too. Moreover, all the downloads now show up without the artwork, I can re-import all day long and they don't work; but if I open with Quicktime, the tv show/movie plays just fine but iTunes gives the ubiquitous

I'm glad iTunes is working now! If you want to locate iTunes plug-ins on your computer, you can find them in the following locations (you may not have the iTunes Plug-ins folder if you do not have plug-ins):

One thing I also wanted to mention is that the "Users/username/Library" is hidden in Lion and Mountain Lion. You can access it using these steps:

The Library folder contains files used by OS X and your apps, including your personal fonts and preferences. The Library folder is hidden. If you need to open it, make sure you are in the Finder, hold down the Option key, and then choose Go > Library.

Why can some mp4s can be played in iTunes but not on a iPhone

I'm currently using an iPhone 3S, and I am unable to transfer my MP4s onto my iPhone using iTunes for PC.
When importing into iTunes, everything runs smoothly... And it even is able to play it.
But when it comes to transfering the files onto my iPhone, it does not copy over.
Dragging it into the device's file list (manual syncing) and syncing it with the wizards (automatic syncing), it does not go over.
(That means ticked in the sync wizard or dragging it into the list of videos on the iPod)
This problem persists even over different devices (a iPhone 4 and a iPod Touch).

don't know, if you found your answer yet, but this is what I did to solve the problem.
I'm using windows forgot to mention.
1. once you connect your ipod, iphone, etc. to itunes, go to books, and search book title.
2. Highlight all the parts of the book, right click get info.
3. check mark album artist and album and press ok.
I try to to artist, album artist, and album, but it did not 100% of the time, so just stuck with album artist and album.

Can't play music in photo slideshow??

I have got a brand new N78 with the latest firmware. The problem is that i am unable to play any music in the photo slideshow. There is no problem with the music file as I can easily play them on the music player but i don't know why the music doesn't plays in the slideshow....Please help.....

Is the audio track one you purchased from iTunes and is DRM protected? If so then the protection prevents the audio from getting included in the QT movie file.
If you have Quicktime Pro 7 and Quicktime Player 7 you can add the movie to the audio track to get what you want.

How can I play an audio CD with QT 7.1.6?

I want to play an audio CD with QuickTime 7.1.6.
When I click on Open file and select the CD drive, change th file type to Audio Files and mark "Open as read-only" nothing is displayed. When I change to "All Files (.)" the tracks are showed with an ".cda" extension. When I dobleclick on a track, I get the Error -2048: the file is not a movie file.

I confirm your issue as I just tried an audio CD in my XP laptop. "All Files" showed only the 44 byte .cda files and no others. QuickTime couldn't open them (error -2048).
I also tried "Open File" with version 7 Pro and it couldn't open.
Odd that I get the option to open using iTunes and it opens and plays just fine. Since iTunes uses the QuickTime engine I would have thought QuickTime could read the files directly.
The same audio CD inserted in my Mac allowed me to double click any track and it opened directly in QuickTime Player. The files show as .aiff files measured in MB's.
Windows users could open an audio CD in iTunes and then convert to .aiff (no compression) and then open the .aiff in QuickTime.
I guess I should have tried myself before getting your hopes up. I apologize.

HT4072 can't play video files (mp4, avi, mkv) with 5.1 audio tracks

I have two Macs, one with a mini-optical out and no audio through its mini-displayport, and the other that supports digital audio out through its mini-displayport. On either of my Macs, how can I play video files (mp4, avi, mkv) in 5.1 using Quicktime or iTunes or VLC? I've heard I need Perian. Is this true? If so, how do I configure it on either machine?
Note that when I connect the computer that supports audio through the mini-displayport to my receiver, my home theater receiver detects a PCM audio connection, but the audio I get out of my speakers is still stereo.
Both computers are running Snow Leopard. I haven't had the need to upgrade to Lion yet, but if the answer is that I need Lion do do this, I'd spend the $29.

that's because now mplayer they switch to libavformat demuxer for mkv and ogg and i think is a bug in smplayer because is making some configuration for files in file_settings in which is sets demuxer & co. this switch is confusing smplayer and it should be reported upstream
p.s if you actually select demuxer from smplayer to mkv it would work perfectly

IOS 5.1.1 unable to play a MP4 with single track subtitle

I have iPhone 4 iPod touch 4 and iPad2 all of them are updated to iOS 5.1.1
them I found this bug!
open video and play a MP4/M4V moive with single track subtitle.
there is no way you can display the subtitle track.
but you can display the subtitle on iTunes and Apple TV (5.0.1)
If you insert another subtitle track into the MP4 file. them it's OK on all device!
by the way I don't have this problem on 5.0.1
I hope there is a develeper who can submit this bug to Apple!

I had this on my iPod touch. I don't know whether the previous reply worked, but I fixed it by locking my iPod, turning on flight mode (control center) unlocking it again, and the was one more "unable to download item" box and I clicked done and that was it. Turned wifi back on and no problem

just "open as" > VLC Media Player and you will see everything and if you have a subtitle file, just drag it into the movie

I created project in iMovie then exported it to MP4 and also MOV file at highest definition possible + I added it to iDVD and had a number issues about encoding errors regarding the mp4 file. MOV worked but the quality was terrible.....

I have a MacBook Pro using the Yosemite system upgrade.
I have updated iDVD and iMovie.
I even bought the iSkysoft app from the mac store and that was terrible too.

On both a MacBook Pro, an Acer laptop and my Mac Tower. I would love to think that it is a problem with the playback system, and that if I merely send the file off to the duplicator they won't have the same problem. Maybe that is the case...I don't know if I have a choice rather than sending it off to see. But it happens in the same spots, in the same way, on all three of the players so I'm a little reluctant to have faith.

Of course, but in the case there is no more 'original project.' It is gone like the wind, stolen along with his computer and backups.
I think I am stuck using one of two files as my master: a DVD he burned where I only see the stutter/vibration/jitter once, or the mpeg2 file where I see it three times. Hopefully, the duplication house can rip if off of one of them and not see the jitter. I know that in audio, my personal filed, you can do a lot to enhance already existing sound--EQ, compression, tape saturation emulation software, etc. I guess I'm hoping there is some kind of analog to the video world that address jitter after a source has been printed--if indeed the source has been printed to be jittery.

My file format can't play in QT7..@@"

I had created a mp4 file. It can play well before QT7 version. Absolutely, It can play in QT4 sucessfully, but it can't play well in QT7.

Yes.... the place I chose was: http://systemsoundext.sourceforge.net/ . You can convert a variety of 'old' Mac pre OSX sounds to AIFF. Hope this helps.

Is there a file browser which can play DVD contents from Time Capsule?

Using File Manager (free Zheng) app I can reach all my files on the Time Capsule (3TB) from my iPad Air2 (64GB). Also I am able to play video content MP4. So far so good.
However I have also several DVD VOB files of homevideo. These I can play on my iMac using DVD player or VLC.
Is there a way to play the DVD content just as easy as the MP4 files do on my iPad? Most file browser do not support this.
I have read a solution to perform it via a server via my iMac. However this is not to my liking.
Should it be possible to re-direct a file URL to lets say VLC player like Stratospherix filebrowser can do?
Is there a good file browser which can play VOB DVD contents?
Can anybody help me before buying several apps and perform the trial and error method ?

I'd recommend File Explorer (orange icon on the iOS app store) - find your NAS with it and try and play your media. It has a video decoder built in so should be able to handle your MP4s. If not, Plex is very good - but would require £2.99 and your Mac to be on when you wanted to watch on your iPad. Let me know how you get on.

I create files so big I can't play them?

I just can't wrap my head around this idea.
How come, when I render out a video file (and it doesn't have to be a long movie) in 1920 X 1080 - H264, I end up with a MULTI-Gigabyte file that is so large I can't play it on my Apple TV, can't even watch it on my computer. It seems the hardware just isn't fast enough (or powerful enough) to play it.
When I render it out in 1280 X 720 format (using the Vimeo preset/H264) it plays just fine; but, of course, it isn't 1920 X 1080. And it doesn't have that crystal clear resolution I see in HD.
I've read some stuff about outputting projects to suit the customer's "playback" requirements, but who can play such huge files? Do you need a Cray SuperComputer (which they don't even make anymore) to play these files back?
If you could point me to some docs on this topic, I'd appreciate it.

I shoot only AVCHD video and I use the trick I learned on Video2Brain where you set the sequence settings by selecting the video clip. So I'm shooting my video at 1920 X 1080 - at least that's what it says in the project window. So I know that my video clips and sequences are the same.
It doesn't make an difference what the export settings are, the only ones that seem to work are the Vimeo presets. In fact, I don't use any presets except the Vimeo 720P anymore.
But, as I recall, I used the Quicktime preset, and I'm pretty sure I used H264
Well...I'll be dammed...I just rendered out two pieces of footage. One was rendered out using the Vimeo settings and the other rendered out H264 - HD 1080p 29.97 - square pixels. Of course this file is 5X the size of the first one. But it played just fine. OK, now I've rendered out another one in Quicktime Format - Preset = HD 1080i 29.97 (that seemed to get picked automatically when I selected Quicktime). This time, instead of an .mp4 it's rendering out as a .mov file.
You know, as I think about it, this problem was at least two revisions of Premier ago when there were no presets, or at least not like there are now. In fact I KNOW there was no Vimeo preset - so when was that? CS4??
Hells Bells, this is rendering out pretty fast, so far. I recall it taking 1/2 hour the last time.
OK, so shut my mouth! The .mov file runs @ 1920 X 1080 and looks freaking FANTASTIC!
I'm embarrassed.
Now I DO have this same problem with After Effects but that's for another forum. I guess I need to look at the export settings for AE. For example, I'm rendering out a 5 SECOND clip from AE, it's almost 750MB and absolutely will not run in real time. I'll post that issue over there.
But for now Premiere is working just fantastic.

this does not solve my problem, or at least i do not understand it. Because when i wanna transfer the file onto my ipad..... i do have a lot of backgroud noise due to the conversion and therefore the file is useless.
is there any application whixh i could download? (app store ... and then how do i have to do?)
