Files reverting back to random saves

I'm working in Indesign CC. I've worked on a layout over the last several days and have finished several pages on the same document. then suddenly after creating a low-res pdf in acrobat my documnet reverted back to the blank document that it was on March 11 at 10:58 am. I then went to my Time Machine's hourly backup and the documents in all of those backup folders have reverted to March 11 10:58 am as well. So the work is gone on my local disk as well as my backups. How could all the files revert to a past save both locally and on several backup folders all at the same time. and more importantly can it be recovered?

Are you sure you saved to the same folder?
If they're gone, they're probably gone for good. I make a habit of periodically saving a new version with a new name, usually each time I'm about to make a major change, or when I start a new editing session, so I have both an easy way to abandon a set of changes and a ready backup path in case of disaster.

  • Keynote files revert back to 3.0.2.

Every time I save my keynote files they revert back to iWork '06 version (3.0.2).
I've already read "Topic : Keynote 3.03 and 4.01" and it does nothing, I've tried on different files, everything.
When I try to associate the file with 4.0.2 it recognizes it. The only way it will keep it is if I manually change every file. And if I change or re-save it, I have to do it again. I don't want to do this with every file, every time.
When I tell it to open all files with 4.0.2 I get this message: "Are you sure you want to change all similar documents to open with the application 'Keynote'? This change will apply to all documents with extention '.key'" When I click contintue - the file reverts back to 3.0.2.
Now every keynote file I have to manually change, after every time I save it.. - Why is it my default? Where did it come from?
Tell me how to fix this, please. PLEASE HELP!!!

Have you tried deleting Keynote version 3 OR renaming version 3 from "Keynote" to "Keynote 3"?

After I edit a raw file in Lightroom 5 and with raw 8.5, the edited files revert back to being unedited. Any ideas?

I edit them in Lightroom. Then the little symbol appears in the bottom of the thumbnail in the film strip at the bottom of the LR screen. Then, a few minutes later, the symbol is gone. I then click on one or more of the thumbnails and the image opens in the main screen. However, all of the sliders on the right are at their defaults, and the image is back in its unedited state. Last night, for a while, the edits reappeared, but tonight they were gone again. I just recently downloaded Camera Raw 8.5. I wonder if that is the problem.
What little symbol?  Do you mean the up-arrow symbol that appears top-right of grid or film strip images?  This indicates that the image has been edited by another program.
Or do you mean the "+/-" symbol that appears bottom right?.  This appears after editing, but if it disappears subsequently without you doing anything, it sounds like something nasty is happening to the catalogue or image xmp file on disk.
Lightroom doesn't use ACR (8.5 or any other version) - it has the same functions built-in.  ACR is used only by Photoshop.  Are you opening the images in ACR in Photoshop?

  • Indesign CS6 reverting back to previous save on document

Wonder if anyone can help? I am saving the artboard, then exporting to pdf and saving that document off. When returning from lunch the artboard and pdf have reverted back to the version from, say 9am, not the updated version from, say 11am.
    Not sure why this is?
    Cheers for any tips!

Really strange. I was looking at the updated artwork printed off from before lunch and seeing the pdf and indd files both reverted back to a previous version for no reason whatsoever. No server or drive problems either. Weird. Thankfully the changes werent that intensive!

  • Cannot save in illustrator file reverts back to an earlier save!

I can't seem to save properly in Illustrator.  After I've saved the file when I close it it sometimes opens back up into a earlier saved version of the file.

If on a server: try saving to your desktop, then do an information on the file (Command I on MAC, Right Click properties on PC) to check what time/date this  was saved. Keep an eye on this, as this should  help you troubleshoot what is going on. You may have a server problem that is putting the old file back on.
Check to see if the control panel version Que is on, most people disable this including myself.
If this is just a global color that is reverting, let us know, as that is caused by a different reason.

  • Old Illustrator file, revised to new, saved to pdf, reverting back to old Illustrator file

After making a new Illustrator file from an old one, then saving it as a pdf, the new Illustrator file reverts back to old one. I have been using the pdf to make the Illustrator file again (luckily I've saved it as editable) but I don't always want to add this extra procedure. Does anyone have this issue or any clues on how this happens and how to fix the problem?

when you made your changes and then saved as, you saved your changes to a new file. your original file closes without saving and the open file in illustrator is the new one (in your case the PDF).
evertime you save as you are making a new file without affecting the old file.
you should first save your changes and then save as. but after the save as, the opened file will no longer be the original file.
if you do a Save As Copy. then you will be saving a new file which will be closed and your original file will remain open.

  • Keynote reverts back to 3.0.2

Updated my computer today and - all of the sudden all of my keynote files are now associated with 3.0.2 and want me to get iwork 06. I've got iwork 08 and never had version 3.0.2. What happened?
I've already read "Topic : Keynote 3.03 and 4.01" and it does nothing, I've tried on different files, everything.
When I try to associate the file with 4.0.2 it recognizes it. The only way it will keep it is if I go under the general and click the "locked" box. I don't want to do this with every file.
When I tell it to open all files with 4.0.2 I get this message: "Are you sure you want to change all similar documents to open with the application 'Keynote'? This change will apply to all documents with extention '.key'" When I click contintue - the file reverts back to 3.0.2.
What I really hacked about - I'VE NEVER OWNED 3.0.2. - Why is it my default? Where did it come from?
Tell me how to fix this, please.

    PLEASE HELP!!!
Every time I save my keynote files they revert back to iWork '06 version (3.0.2).
I DON'T EVEN USE THAT VERSION.
Can I delete it without messing up my computer? THIS DOESN'T MAKE SENSE!!!
Now every keynote file I have to manually change, after every time I save it.

  • Some UTF8 files revert to western encoding when reopened.

I'm using Dreamweaver CS3, and when I built an application I forgot to ensure that the encoding was set to UTF8.
I went through all my files and changed the encoding from western european to UTF8. This was fine until I noticed that SOME files revert back to western european encoding when re-opened.
No matter how many times I change the encoding back ( using ctrl+j and choosing the dropdown in page properties ) and save the files, it STILL reverts back to western when opened.
This only seems to happen on certain files, and some are fine. I've tried creating a new file in UTF8 and copying the contents of the old one into it. The problem persists so I'm thinking that the file may contain odd characters that are causing Dreamweaver to 'intelligently' change the encoding.
Any ideas are welcomed. Many thanks.

I use lots of files that don't have headers, such as PHP includes which include snippets of HTML.
CS3 seems to look for special characters in the file and IF there are UTF-8 encoded chracters in the file AND it is saved as such, it'll remember that when reopening it. However, if there are NO UTF-8 characters in there and you save it as UTF-8, then CS3 will revert back to another encoding (western or some such...), regardless of the setting in preferences (for files without explicit headers).
This is a pain because some of my PHP includes may or may not contain Korean characters (multi-language site) and if I do add them, then I need to remember to switch the encoding to UTF-8 manually. It's just annoying that the global preferences, AREN'T!
I'll be upgrading to CS4 this week so I'll let you know if it's an issue there too.

  • How to revert back previous working files in InDesign CS6?

I have suddenly replace wrong working files, how to revert back previous working files in InDesign CS 6?
    OS Mac version: 10.10.3
    InDesign CS6 version

This feature does not exist in InDesign. You're best hope is that you have a backup of the previous file. Moving forward, you might want to try a free product called Radish that allows you to save versions and revert back to previous versions when needed. Here's a blog post I wrote about the product Story Versioning in InCopy | InCopySecrets.

  • File name reverts back to original file name from camera

In iPhoto I changed all the names of my pictures from what the camera assigned them. I can see the title on each picture. Then when I go to attach the picture  to an email it reverts back to original name from the camera.
It does the same thing when I copy over to an external hard drive.
How do I get the name to change permanetly?

    Sandy:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Another alternative would be to change your workflow. Upload to a folder on the desktop first and use a renaming application like R-Name to batch, sequentially rename your photos before importing into iPhoto. I use the international date format with a brief description of the shoot like this: 2008-06-15-Fathers Day-001. It may take a bit more effort at the beginning but saves a lot of headaches on down the line.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Some Preferences not sticking ie screen saver jump back to random after setting a particular screen saver

I set a specific screen saver in the preferences file, after a reboot, random savers box is always checked. Also when I move items to the side bar they stay there until a start-up after which they have disappeared.
    Thx  AL

I think that it is something wrong with kernel and graphic drivers but i'm not able to solve it from the beginning of using of Arch by me.
I'm not so sure this issue is software-related only because in my case it seems the laptop screen enters power-saving mode (10-min timeout) on its own without any events logged (as shown by dmesg) so my next thought was OK, I'm going to get rid of this issue disabling the screen power-saving timeout in the BIOS and set it to never power down or something like that and from then on managing power mode manually; ie: when I want to power down I will just use systemctl suspend/hibernate which work fine ... problem is: there are no related options in my BIOS for such timeout.
The only timeouts I have are in /etc/systemd/logind.conf set to 30min (#IdleActionSec) (commented) by default so these are not in effect because the screens goes blank after 10m which is less than the (default) 30m in logind. Maybe setting loggind to 9m (un-commented) to catch the event before the machine-default one ?
    IdleActionSec=9min
    IdleAction=suspend
Will check it and report back.

Do you even know how to nuke and re-set Photoshop's preferences, colorplak?  Your last post seems to reveal that you don't understand what I'm talking about. Here's a link you can click on:
Preference file functions, names, locations | Photoshop CC
To re-create the preferences files for Photoshop, start the application while holding down Ctrl+Alt+Shift (Windows) or Command+Option+Shift (Mac OS). Then, click Yes to the message, "Delete the Adobe Photoshop Settings file?"
Note: If this process doesn't work for you while you're using a wireless (bluetooth) keyboard, attach a wired keyboard and retry.
Important: If you re-create the preferences by deleting the Adobe Photoshop CC Settings file, make sure that you only delete that file. If you delete the entire settings folder, you also delete any unsaved actions or presets.
Reinstalling Photoshop does not remove the preferences file. Before reinstalling Photoshop, re-create your preferences.
Note for Photoshop 14.1 and later: If you use Generator and reset your Preferences, Generator is disabled. Choose Preferences > Plug-ins to turn it back on.
Video: Julieanne Kost created a video that takes you through two ways of resetting your Photoshop preferences. The manual preference file removal method is between 0:00 - 5:05. The keyboard shortcut method is between 5:05 - 8:18. The video is located here.
    Mac OS
Important: Apple made the user library folder hidden by default with the release of Mac OS X 10.7. If you require access to files in the hidden library folder to perform Adobe-related troubleshooting, see How to access hidden user library files.

  • On MacBook Pro, in iPhoto, I can't find the "DON  In MacBook Pro where do I find the "DONE" button to save my editing changes and revert back to my library.

In MacBook Pro, where is the "DONE" button to save my editing changes and revert back to the iphoto library?

If you're using the Adjust editing pane there is no Done button. When you done with the editing just click on the Photos button at the top or use one of the arrows at the top to advance to the next photo.  No done button required.

  • Can I use my time capsule to back up or save files from my pc?

My time capsule works great with my 2 Macs.   I just got a PC and would like to know if I can use the time capsule to back up or save files from my PC?

You can.. but obviously PC is missing TM.. so you will need to use a backup software.
Saving files to the TC is not really recommended.. but as long as you have lots of space is unlikely to cause problems.. the whole idea of TM though is to keep incremental backups on an hourly basis and will slowly fill the TC.. once space is short.. it can get messy.
Also read Pondini who is positively against using it for other files.
    http://pondini.org/TM/TCQ3.html
I suggest you read .. skim at least the FAQ so you actually understand what TM - TC is all about.
A USB drive plugged into the PC makes a better backup
    1. It is formatted NTFS, ie native format and readable by any windows computer. A TC is a network device.
    2. USB drives are cheap. You can use 2 of them and store one offsite.
    3. USB traffic is not on the network.
    4. Storing files on the TC is bad as it is a backup target not itself backed up.
    5. In a pc you can add drive after drive after drive.. (assuming a desktop since you didn't say laptop). Only a Mac Pro can do that in the Mac world.. internal drives are cheaper than a. USB drives, b. network drives. And they are 10x or more faster.
