Files saved at 72 ppi are showing up on user computer at 96ppi

I am completely baffled by this one, so if anyone can help me figure it out it would be greatly appreciated.
I'm creating an html email to send from an application called Vertical Response. I created a photoshop document at 72ppi and did the designs and then cropped and saved three images using save for web. The images appear to be correct, but most email clients and browsers won't display them.
The guy from Vertical Response support said that they won't display because they're set to 96ppi. "How can that be?" I double-checked the document and, yes, it's at 72ppi. I downloaded one of the images from the server and brought it into Photoshop to check the size, and it said 72ppi, just as I'd saved it. The guy from Vertical Response says that he downloaded the image from the server, and inspected the properties of the file on his windows computer and the file showed up as 96ppi.
How can this be? I'm working at a new workstation at a new office and I'm wondering if the settings are somehow tweaked to allow this to happen. I even brought the Photoshop CS2 file over to my laptop and tried to crop and re-upload the images using my laptop and CS3, but they still won't show up.

GIF doesn't have a way to save resolution information.
Photoshop just defaults to 72 dpi when there is no resolution information.
And Windows defaults to 96dpi when there is no resolution information.
Also, the resolution really shouldn't matter at all in HTML.
If you used SaveForWeb, then most browsers should be displaying the files without a problem.
The example image you gave is a valid GIF, and displays correctly in Safari, Firefox, IE, and Chrome.

Not all files copied to burn folders are showing up as alias files.

I am trying to perform a very trivial function of burning JPEGS on my DVD. I've done it tons of times with minimal issues.
However, recently, I have noticed a consistent issue in the burn folder:
When I try to place JPEGS from a master/original folder to a burn folder on my desktop, I notice that most all files will correctly be "alias" files (as expected). However, there are a few (one or two) that will show up as JPEG files. That JPEG file size is smaller than the original, which leads me to believe that it is having trouble making it an alias file. When I click on that JPEG file in the burn folder, I get the following error "the file 'xyz.jpg' could not be opened. It may be damaged or use a file format that preview doesn't recognize." However, when I open that file from the origina source, it opens fine.
When I "get info" properties, I notice that in the general file information section, it does not show the original source location (as it does when looking at the alias "get info" properties.)
So what I have to do at this point is delete the false JPEG file image in the burn folder, and individually replace that with the file from the original source. At that point, it makes it an alias file.
Although I found a work around to get files burned, I want to fix this so this does not happen when I am placing large amounts of files in burn folder. As it is, I can no longer trust the burn folder and have to inspect it before I burn to make sure all files are alias files.
Anybody experience this and have a way to fix this in the system?
Many of you probably are experiencing this, but if you are not checking your burn folder, it will just look like a corrupt file on your CD/DVD.

Hi all, thanks for your suggestions thus far. Here is some additional information and initial answers to your comments.
I am still having the issue. Currently, what I do is export full res files from my master RAWs using Aperture 3. To do this, we create an export folder on desktop or any other specific storage location. We then use the burn folders as a simple method to create an immediate backup DVD of the JPEGS. As described above I am using the drag and drop technique currently to move images into the burn folder, as we have a few different labeled burn folders in our workflow.
I am not using iPhoto at all for this process, as all of my images are managed with Aperture 3. However, since the files/exports coming out of A3 seem to be fine, I am not currently questioning the integrity of the export.
I am going to try to use the burn folder technique from finder as BRB8910 suggests as an alternate method and report back on the outcome.
But Here is a revised issue of the initial stated problem:
I went back to my desktop to do some additional testing and tried a new condition...keeping the burn folder closed down.
On my desktop, I created a new burn folder called "burn tester 2". I left it unopened and dragged the same master images from the same master folder directly into the folder collapsed down. ANd guess what? All the alias images seem to appear in the "Burn Tester 2" burn folder fine.
NOW, here is the newly discovered issue. I removed the alias files in the "Burn Tester 2" Burn folder. For my next test, I opened the empty burn folder. So know I have an empty open burn folder window. I then opened my master folder and highlighted all the master JPEG images and dragged them into the same "Burn Tester 2
burn folder that is now open. Guess what? The issue remains. I will get some files that copy in as corrupt JPEG files along with mostly Alias files.
I deleted the burn tester 2 burn folder all together, and recreated a third virgin burn folder and this time opened first. when I dragged images to the freshly created and open burn foldder 3, I get the same issue. When I delete the burn folder contents and collapse (close) the burn folder window, I then drag images to that burn folder 3 directly on the desktop (while closed), and then all the Alias files seem to drag in fine, with no JPEGs.
So it appears after my testing, I discovered that this issue only happens when I copy into a burn folder that is an open window.
I am just really confused as to why this is happening.
Hope this provides additional insight. BTW: Yes, I did reboot my system prior to retesting and I am using MAC OS 10.6.8 MacPro Quad Core with 8 GB RAM.

When I give a download commond for any file, saving bar itself is not showing

when try to give command to download any file, saving bar or open doesn't show at all, I mean if I have open & see any download file at least it has ask for open or saving option should be given, earlier this problem was not there.

Do you mean this? Tools > Options > General : Downloads : "Always ask me where to save every file"

All CAPTURE AND PRINT files saved on my mac are blank -what is the problem

I installed the Capture & print Add-on on my Macbook Air and captured areas of several web pages and saved them to a folder on my desktop. All the add-on files are blank with zero data captured.
What must I do to remedy this.

When using my external hard drive, the files I put on it still show up on my computer as backups and continue to take up space on my macbook pro. How do i fix this?

I transfer files from my macbook pro to the WD my book for mac and then delete the file off of my computer, but then it just shows up on my macbook pros hard drive in the "backups" category and continues to take up space on my computers hard drive.

As local snapshots are backups in the internal drive, it's normal that the files you transferred are part of them. You can delete the local snapshots by turning off Time Machine in System Preferences > Time Machine, but you don't need to do that. Time Machine will delete them automatically when your hard drive is full

File saved in Photoshop CS6 "incompatible" when opened on same computer?!

For the first time yesterday I saved 3 PSD files, (about 760Mb each, large flat 16bit background-only PSD's) and then have them refuse to open in the same version of Photoshop CS6, Windows 8/64, that they were just made in, an hour later. I just see the dialog warning that they are 'incompatible with this program' ?!
I don't understand how a file can be saved incompatibly with the program that saves it. Is this a bug? First time I've seen it, if so & do not use any other versions of Photoshop or any other machines for that matter. Am very confused why this happens.
Have reset compatibility mode to 'Always' (though I don't see why I should have to do this) and am hoping it doesnt go and happen on some critical save of another file. My hard drive Raid array is working fine, and I have never had a problem with storage, so its not a random hard drive error, as it happened 3 times in a row.
Saving the same file just now as a TIFF (it has no layers) gave no problem. Guess I'll avoid PSDs without layers for now.

Just to be absolutely sure, it's always a good idea to take a look in your Windows Event Log to see whether any new events have appeared.

I suggest the following steps (insert plenty of reboots of your PC...not just restarts, but full power down reboots). Also, it is advised that you be logged into the PC on an account with full admin rights. Further, under Vista, use the "Run As Administrator" option for everything.
1) Remove your device OS update package from your PC (add/remove programs)
2) Cleanly uninstall the RIM DTM software:

3) Get a fresh download of the RIM DTM software:

Choose the version that is newest and (if applicable) compatible with your PIM (if you are synchornizing via USB):

4) Download (to your PC) a fresh copy of your device OS package from your carrier:

5) Install DTM to your PC
6) Install (also to your PC), the device OS package

My playlists are showing up on the computer when it's connected, but they don't appear on the device. Please help.

I Connected my iPod to the computer to update some songs on my playlists, but once I had disconnected it from the computer my playlist were not on the device. So I connected it back up to the computer and they are still showing up. But all of my music is still on my iPod, please help me I really don't want to restore it back to factory settings.

No apps are showing on my authorised computer

I was hoping someone can help. My computer is currently in for repair so I an unable to update my Ipod touch. My son has a birthday in a few weeks and I have bought him an Ipod touch of his own. Unfortunately he is not old enough to have his own account. He has his own computer with Itunes loaded on and I have authorised his computer to sync to my account however, I have a problem with the apps. I have loads of apps on my account but are not able to see them on his. I dont want to have to buy them all again. How do I import them?

I'm trying to understand whether I'm the one who's crazy, doing something wrong, or whether Windows Firewall was designed to be broken (and stay that way through Windows Server 2008 R2!)
When I go to Windows Firewall with Advanced Security from the Start Menu and edit the Inbound Rule for "File and Sharing (SMB-in)", the result I am seeking is that I can restrict access by both user and computer.
Upon enabling the rule, and selecting the "Allow the connection if it is secure" option (and nothing else), the firewall obliges by denying any and all attempts by other computers to map or browse files.
When I enter the name of one PC in the Computers tab under the "Allow connections from these computers", again the firewall obliges and the said PC can now browse and map to shares on that server. HOWEVER, now other computers on the network are able
to do the same, as long as they have any set of verifiable credentials (like a local user/admin or domain user/admin, etc). Trying to restrict by user or by IP yield almost identical results. Both those who I do and do not want are able to access
files on the said server.
My question is this: how is this firewall rule supposed to work? What do we have to do to actually make it accept and reject connections based on the criteria we have provided?
My goal is to only allow SMB access to a user IF they log in from a particular computer or group of computers.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

I too find the same problem. I enable the firewall rule, put in Local Addresses that I want to be able to get through the firewall to access the File shares, but it opens the firewall so any ip address can access the shares. Anyone have an answer?

Files saved to iomega NAS device from Mac not visible to PCs

I'm using my MacBook in a primarily Windows environment at work. We have an Iomega NAS device for our network file sharing.
Some, but not all, of the files I save to the network share from my Mac are not visible to PCs. Am able to see all the files out there saved by the PCs via the Mac, but not all files saved by the Mac are visible by PCs (ie, they show up in Finder/Mac but not in Explorer/PC).
Details:
- Mac OS X 10.6.2
- iomega StorCenter ix2 Network Storage Device (NAS)
- Netgear Router (details unknown)
All other network works fine from the Mac -- can see shared PCs, can use network attached printer, access the Internet, see all the shared folders on the NAS device.
Happens with all types of files (MS Office documents, JPGs, GIFs, PDFs), but not for every documents. Probably 3 out of 4 documents saved to NAS device from Mac are visible to PCs on the network, and 1 out of 4 is not visible.

OS X 10.4.8 update has not altered the behavior of this bug. The Office 2004 11.30 update seems to have caused the problem to happen less frequently. I would say it now happens half as frequently.

I have indicated on the attached jpeg where the problem is, basically a line of text is missing at the top and part of the feeding diagram is missing. I created the artwork in different layer and then flattened. All text has been converted to outlines, however the areas being affected have no transparency, I have used solid fills or no fills. I get the same result when I export the file as a jpeg. Hope you can help.
