Files saved to network server sometimes get deleted

Hello,
I work as a graphic designer using a year old iMac and latest version of Photoshop CS5.
Every now and then when saving a .psd file with photoshop it will get deleted instead. As an example, lets say I'm working on a brochure cover image. I open photoshop, open the file and work couple of hours on it. Then I save it. File gets deleted and is now no where to be found. Assuming no backups it's lost for good.
Naturally I use backups so this usually only means I've at most lost a days worth of work, but it's still highly irritating as you can get quite a bit done during one day.
What I've figured out so far:
1) Only .psd files get deleted and only by photoshop. Illustrator, Premiere, Indesign are unaffected.
2) Only files that are being saved on network (Buffalo) drive get deleted. Files saved on my macs hard disk have not gone lost so far.
3) It seems that when I use "Save As" the files save correctly. Only when using "Save" do they get deleted.
4) File getting deleted does not happen every time. But it does happen around 20-30% of the time when saving.
My current solution is to keep file browser open at all times. And every time I save file with Photoshop I check it's still there. If it's been deleted I will save it again with new name. As long as it's still open in Photoshop I can still save it.
Due to my work place, saving on the Buffalo is currently the only realistic solution. I realise this is not a Photoshop only problem. It has a lot to do with the network drive as well. How ever as Photoshop is the only program affected it seemed like a good idea to post it here as well. We've been in contact with Buffalo and they deny any knowledge about this problem, so we've hit a brickwall there anyway.
Has anyone else run into this or similar problem? Any suggestions besides taking more backups?

2) Only files that are being saved on network (Buffalo) drive get deleted.
There you have it – Adobe’s position with regard to Photoshop is: »Adobe Systems does not provide support for networks and removable media.«

One workaround might be to always do Save As’ as you claim those work; this could be automated with a Script for example.

Why can I not open files saved on a server?

I think I figured it out.  I set the compatibility mode to Windows Server 2008 (which is the OS on the server we are using) and it opened just fine.  Whoop Whoop.  Thanks for your help.

Photo stream photos will be deleted once you reach 1,000 unless you import them into iPhoto. You can set your iPhoto preferences to import them automatically.

  • PDF or Excel file saved to Network folder Intermittently has "Date Modified" changed to an older date

Client saves files locally to her Win 7 64-bit laptop and they are fine when it comes to the date modifed stamp. On occasion a few of these files each day, when saved to the home directory on the server, get the Date Modified stamp changed. Time is never
the same and can be set for las tweek or - literally - 1990, 2004, 2010, etc. I have seen tech articles talking about the different options for saving the file date based on an embedded image or attachment of some type, but that has been ruled out. And this
is not the local saved file time being modified within the first minute or two of a locally copied file.
Any ideas how a file saved to a network share can randomly and intermittently have the date modified to a much older date? Have scanned for malware as well.... Thanks!

    Hi
Make sure the server or nas where it's saved is sync'ed with it,s time source, and be sure it's update for the OS's patch.

  • Cannot open files on the network server.

    Folks:
I have a user running Acrobat X Pro.  The program works fine in all respects except one:  When he tries to open a PDF that is on the server, he gets an error message:
"There was an error opening this document.  This file cannot be found."
He has NO problem opening the same file from within Acrobat.  He cannot open it from an Explorer window or directory listing.
In a related problem, if he tries to open a file or folder using the mapped drive letter, he gets an error message:
"Windows can't find 'G:\'.  Check the spelling and try again."
So this all points to a problem related to Acrobat not recognizing the computer's drive mapping --- but this problem does not exist on any other workstation on the network (all Win8 virtual machines using Acrobat Pro X).  But I cannot figure out what the problem is.
    Any help?  Please?!?
    Thanks!
    Micah

I am having precisely the same issue.
I am running Adobe Acrobat XI Standard on Windows 8 Professional. All updates have been applied to both.
(I have 4 other computers with identical configurations where this problem does not occur.)
In the problem machine (and a 2nd computer with the same issue) I can easily open the file using a UNC path, e.g. \\server\h\filename.pdf in Adobe Acrobat.
Using the drive mapping, net use h: \\server\h, I cannot access the file H:\filename.pdf.
I can't open H: from within Adobe Acrobat either, not just the PDF.
I can open any other file on that drive with any other program.
I can open \\server\h\filename.pdf and the H: drive from Foxit Reader installed on the same computer.
The specific problem is that Adobe Acrobat XI can't open or see a mapped drive by drive letter.
    Any ideas?

  • How do i vpn and browse files on a network server through ipad?

I'm having trouble finding an app that allows me to access my work network server public drive to view files. I assume I can use VPN, but can't seem to find a reliable file browser.  Suggestions?

Two things you will need to do...
    1. Setup webdav shares via Server.app => Filsharing => <share> => Share with iOS Devices (WebDav) checkbox
    2. Acquire an app on your iPad that browses WebDav shares (Numbers, Keynote, Pages or any of the many apps available on the AppStore).

  • Windows 2008R2 SP1- No memory dump file is capturing when server is getting rebooted unexpectedly

    Hello,
Windows 2008R2 SP1- No memory dump file is capturing when the server is getting rebooted unexpectedly. Tried allmost all options per the standards, no luck. Can someone help me to fix the issue.
    Thank You

An unexpected reboot would not trigger a memory dump. This one may help if you're trying to generate a dump file.
Windows feature lets you generate a memory dump file by using the keyboard

  • Photoshop CC Saving to network freezes sometimes

I have a coworker that sometimes has trouble saving to the Windows network from Photoshop CC on Windows 7 64-bit.  The network is accessed through a mapped drive letter in Windows. The saving process will get stuck somewhere less than 50%, and he has to retry up to 5 times to get it to work.
I saw a post that said Photoshop CC has trouble saving to a network because it is constantly saving and renaming temporary files until it is finished with the saving operation.
How should we configure our network to accomodate Photoshop's behavior?
Off subject: I wish I could email Adobe support, like I can do with every other software company on Earth.

  • Run BW query from R/3, need output file saved on application server

    Hello all,
We are currently working on BI 7.0. Is there a way where we can run a BW query from R/3 by some program or tcode? We need to run the BW query and use the output of that query as an input to some other custom program in R/3.
If we can save the output file on application server than the R/3 program will pick up that file from there.
Is there any standard delivered functionality that will allow us to do that or how can we achieve this.
Can some help help with some suggestions or links?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Pacman -Sc chnged behavior, network-cached packages get deleted!

    Hi everybody,
As of V 3.1 pacman -Sc changed behavior to delete all but the installed packages on one machine. I use a network shared pacman cache as described in this wiki entry:
    http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/How … me_Network
This change killed the ability to only keep the newest packages in cache. If I do a
    pacman -Sc
it deletes all packages that are not installed on this particular machine. If you have several machines with different setups this is not what is intended. Wouldn't it have been better to leave pacman -Sc as is and introduce a new option? Is there a way to work around that or do I have to keep track of whats new by myself?
    Harvey

    Harey wrote:
Hm, looking at this solution, it's actually pretty close to the current algorithm pacman uses.
But instead of checking if the package is in the local database, you check if it's the sync database.
    Close, but no cigar
Indeed, there are still problems remaining. If there are different repos enabled on different machines, the sync database of the actual machine where the script is started is used as reference. If others have more repos enabled, for example 'testing' these packages will be deleted, even if newer. Don't know how to work around this one by now. But my machines all have the same repos enabled, so it won't hurt me much.
Otherwise, if you run it on the box which has the most repos enabled, you should be fine.
So it is very easy to implement this in pacman. The problem is that the current behavior is better
for caches that are not network shared, so we cannot simply replace it.
And if we add this other -Sc behavior, we then need a way to choose between the two behaviors.
    Any suggestions?
    Well you changed behavior before
But actually I wouldn't change it back either, because the majority of users will need the current implementation. I would tend to make it an extra option, if possible.
Sorry if it wasn't clear, that's what I was asking, which extra option it could be?
Because we would need a clear name and/or shortname to avoid confusing users with two different -Sc behaviors possible.

  • I swipe an email message and sometimes get "delete" and sometimes "archive"

Recently, I have been swiping emails to delete them and instead of delete, the red message on the right side of the email message says "archive". There have been a few, however, which still say "delete". Could you help me get rid of the archive or tell me what it is there for? It seems, perhaps that the deletes are for my .me account and the archives for my gmail account. Any way to change that? Thanks

is there a way to disable archiving when gmail is set up through exchange? -- or a way to push email on gmail rather than fetch?

  • E4200v2 - Files on USB Storage keeps getting deleted

    I have a Linksys E4200v2 is running firmware 2.1.39.145204.
I'm attaching a 3TB Seagate Expansion external hard drive (STBV3000100) to it.
    I've made 2 partitions on the hard drive: a 2TB HFS+, and a 1TB FAT32
My issue is that the at random times, files on my 2TB partition keep getting deleted.
My house runs all macs so we won't need NTFS, but in order to store files larger than 4GB, we want to keep at least a part of the drive using HFS+.
Has anyone encountered a similar issue before? I can't really pinpoint when it happens... sometimes I'll check the hard drive and see that all my folders and files have been deleted. I know it's not much to go on, but hopefully someone has seen something like this...
I have Media Server turned on, and FTP turned off.

I've noticed similar issues with Mac's and NTFS when you disconnect and reconnect USB external drives.
    Recommendations:
    Reformat drive NTFS if necessary.
Once the USB drive is connected to router never disconnect it without using the safe disconnect button or power off the router first.
Only plug the drive back into the Mac as a last resort but instead access it exclusively through the network.
Please remember to Kudo those that help you.

  • Copying files over a network with Maverick

Anyone else having this problem copying PhotoShop files to a network server?
I get this all the time when copying over an SMB/AFP network.
Mainly as the files aren't in use, aren't open and I've even had to close any InDesign files open with them linked to it as a last resort.
It is so bloody annoying! I have to delete the files it tries to copy to the server, sometimes won't let me as saying they are in use (again!) and have to keep trying to get it to copy, which it will eventually copy over. Wasting sooooo much time in my working day. I'm refusing to update all the opther Mac's in agency until I know it stops doing this.
    Anyone any solutions/ideas?!??!

Anyone any ideas??! This is driving me nuts! Every large file this happens. So time wasting. I'm far from impressed with Maverick so far.
