Files soon to be RIP

I was uploading stuff. Then my ibook shut off/froze. I restarted it and then my ipod had the 'do not disconnect' on it. I reset it, 'select+menu' .according to the support info, I wasn't supposed to lose files, I lost some and now itunes doesn't recognize the ipod application or whatever, it says to 'restore' the ipod which means I'm about to lose all my files. What is there to do?
What the ****?
HELP!

Beth,
Quote: "in Elements I'd have to open a new project to make a new sequence" within the project.
You still have to open either a new or exiting project to make more new sequences.
Quote: "I'd love to know if the sequences can then be saved as AVIs".
You can obviously export the contents of a sequence or nested sequences as a rendered video file of some format like avi's as Jim said, but you can't save sequences as a standalone "sequence" file. Premiere does not do that.
Premiere can only save EDL, Project and rendered video files. However, you can import an existing project file into another project. If that project contains sequences then you can say that sequences can be saved but not by themselves.
As you probably know, sequences are the primary method or bucket that Premiere uses to hold audio and video elements. You can't create a video project without using at least the default sequence.
Any sequence, as you say, that is saved as an avi or other rendered format is no longer a "sequence". It is a file containing a rendered piece of video. It will play exactly like the original project sequence but you can't drill into the avi to look at or manipulate the elements as you can with the original project sequence.
I just wanted to clarify the difference between a project sequence and a rendered video file. Please disregard my blabbering if you already know or if i've insulted your intelligence.

  • How to display new downloaded files soon

I have begun to use Mac instead of PC.
    I have a question.
When I download some files with Safari from some websites, I save them on Desktop.
But there are not the files I have downloaded on Desktop and they can be only founded through Finder (Finder > Desktop) until Mac is rebooted. It is not until reboot that I directly find the files exist on Desktop.
Does anyone know how to display downloaded files soon after getting them?

    Hi Nikaku ............
The best thing to do to find your downloads - an not spread ALL over the desktop an a easy way to find them is to create a NEW folder on your desktop an call it something like - Downloads -
    * After you did this, open Safari an go to the preferences, now select in the section 'Location downloaded files' search for the folder you created an select it.
Next time you download something you will find it in that folder 'Downloads'
    Good luck ...

  • Getting ITunes to organize files that were previously ripped.

    Greetings Itunes Gurus,
I am new to IPods and ITunes. I have several Gigs of audio that I have ripped and used on my previous mp3 player. I now have an IPod. I am wondering how I can have those files copied to my IPod just as they are in the same directories that they are and with the same names that they already have. I have had the experience (a few days ago) of having ITunes organize my music and everything was changed. Very few of my audios were left in teh directories that I had them in, etc. I am now passed that trauma and trying to move ahead!
Please she your knowledge about how I can achieve this.
Thanks for your time and support.

If you want to be ultra consevative like me and keep iTunes from interfering with your files, go to Edit>Prefences>Advanced>General
Uncheck both "Keep iTunes folder organised" and "Copy files to Itunes Music folder when adding to library".
Then just add your folders with music to your library. Itunes just saves the location of your tracks.
There are disadvantges to this, but you can consolidate your library later if you want iTunes to manage your music.

  • My shuffle will NOT play protected AAC files but will play ripped AAC files

When I download a playlist to my Ipod Shuffle all files appear to transfer OK, but only the regular AAC files (the ones from my CD's) will play (i.e. the protectet AAC files will NOT play). If I create a playlist with only protected AAC files purchased from Itunes, NOTHING will play.
Yes, I've run updater (latest version).
Yes, I've reset to factory defaults.
Yes, I'm using the latest version of Itunes
Yes, These songs play fine on my Windows XP PC.
    Yes, I've "deauthorized" and "re-authorized"
Yes, I've deleted all my music files and restored them.
Basically, I've got a MP3 player (Yes, I know I'm actually playing AAC files)
Any Ideas!!! Has anyone seen this before?

    Hi,
Check the iPod hardware properties. Make sure that the iPod shuffle is connected to computer.
    1. Right-click My Computer and click Manage.
    2. Select Device manager.
    3. Then select Universal Serial Bus controllers.
    4. Right-click USB Mass Storage devices and click Properties.
    5. Click the Details tab.
Check for the string of numbers if it is 000a.2700.FFFFFFF then send the iPod shuffle for service. http://depot.info.apple.com/ipodshuffle/

or take it back to the place from were you brought and ask for a replacement.

  • Can you remove Old Backup files from Time Machine sooner?

So I'm aware that the default settings state that Time Machine will start to delete old backup files from your saved destination once that destination starts to approach full storage capacity. But what if you are not looking to fill up most of your storage capacity with Time Machine backups? Is there a way where you can cut the delete threshold in half and have Time Machine delete old backup files sooner rather than later?

  • Can't add movie file / bad movie atom error

    Hello,
I'm having a very strange problem.  I just started within the last few days trying to organize an Itunes movie database so that I could see all of my movies streamed over my Apple TV.  Most of the movie files I have been able to add with no issue, aside from the fact that they always initially get added to the "Home Movies" folder and then I have to move them into the other movie category.  So then I come to one of my files which is a rip of one of my BluRay movies.  It is in MP4 format, so that should be no issue.  I was initially able to add the movie, and it did appear in the Itunes Home Movies section.  But I didn't like the way the file was named, and I wanted to add the poster art.  I right clicked and went to change what I wanted, the first being the name of the movie.  Well prior to me changing the name of the movie, I had the tab option where you could add the movie art.  As soon as I changed the file name, that tab went away.  Well, I figured maybe I should delete the movie out of the Itunes database and try to re-add it.
Well from this point it's been downhill.  Every time I try to add the file back in, it won't appear in Itunes.  I then tried playing the file in VLC player, and the file appears to open, and the ticker is moving along, but there is no video or sound.  Now this file played just fine before I tried to move it to Itunes.  I then tried playing it via Quicktime and I get some weird -2002 bad movie atom error.  What the heck is going on!  I have searched the net on this error, and the fixes seem to be all over the place, and none of them have worked for me.  One thread talked about the tags somehow being changed, but I cannot figure out what tags people are talking about or how to fix this.  If anyone has a solution to this I would greatly appreciate that.  thanks.

It is against the rules of the forum to discuss extracting from film blu rays. Blu rays used for data storage fine.
I am sure there are plenty of sites out there that can advise on the correct steps to take here.

  • Is there a way to display the file location in iTunes?

I have several external hard drives connected to my windows PC.   Over time, I have copied my music files (some I have ripped from CD's, and some I have copied from a friend's external drive) to 3 or 4 different locations, each of which is on a separate external drive.   Now, iTunes has gone out and pulled all of those files into my music.   As a result, I have 3 or more copies of many songs.
The only way I can see where they are located, as far as I know, is to right click on each song, go to Get Info, and look at the "WHERE" box at the bottom of the window.
Is there a way for me to set the file location up as a field in iTunes?  What I want to do now is to move all of my music to one location, then delete duplicates, before backing the entire library up.
Thanks in advance for any help you can give me!

I use CoderPlus workspace & tabbed panels.  For me, the file url is on the far right side. See screenshot.
If you click the "Page Icon" in upper right corner to tile, the URL shows on the left side.

  • Regarding Artwork and managing of iTunes Movie files on a NAS Drive

My Macbook hard drive was virtually full so like many other people in my situation I made space by moving my Movies and TV folders from iTunes media to a NAS networked hard drive connected to my network router at home.  That's great, freed up loads of space and when I'm home my iTunes wirelessly finds it and can even stream the content via my Apple TV.  My question now though is how do I add artwork to movie files that I have ripped from my DVD's?  I've been going into the info pane and adding artwork as I normally do and clicking ok, but then nothing changes.  It's as if iTunes cannot write the artwork image to the file on the NAS drive, or connect the thumbnail to it.
This has led me to question how do I now add a new movie file to my iTunes if the folder is located on a NAS drive now.  I also normally add a movie file to my iTunes library and then amend it's metadata i.e. the video type (movie/TV Shows), add artwork etc.  My concern is that I'm not sure how to add more files and also once I do I cannot seem to amend the metadata.
Does anyone have experience in this and can they explain how best to do it.

I have a similar setup with an iMac and media library on a TC and can add some converted movies but not all and changes to metadata don't save.  Files aren't hidden somewhere in Home movies.  I thought it was a format issue so switched to m4v Apple format and found that i can add some to the library but not others.  Any that do add, don't take changes to the metadata - no error message, just doesn't process.  Interestingly, I recently upgrades from a Windows pc to the Mac and under Windows it worked perfectly!

  • ITunes corrupting my m4a files

    Hi,
Occasionally, a song that I ripped from CD into iTunes just stops playing or starts to skip. It becomes corrupted by iTunes somehow after playing fine for months.
I am using the latest iTunes (9.0.1) on Windows XP. I also have an iPhone 3GS with the latest firmware.
When I tried playing the latest file to become corrupted with Quicktime instead of through iTunes I got the following error message: "Error -2002: a bad public movie atom was found in the movie". It is not a movie file however.
I don't know if the error is the same with all the files the become corrupted since this is the first time I have started to investigate the problem in more depth.
Has anyone else experienced this? It is quite annoying. I have to delete the m4a file an re-import the song.
Hopefully, iTunes will be fixed to stop it corrupting the files but in the meantime does anyone know of an easy way to fix the file other than re-ripping the song?
    Thanks for any help,
    Scott.

I've got this problem too. It's been going on for 6 to 8 months now but I didn't realize exactly what was going on. Files I'd just bought off the iTunes store started skipping on my iPod, and then it extended to older files I'd bought months or years earlier. It didn't affect any of my ripped tracks (which I rip to MP3 using LAME, so they're not AAC files).
I just assumed it was my iPod dying, refusing to play AAC properly anymore, because they played fine in iTunes. But I just got an iPhone and now I hear blips in the songs in just the spots where my old iPod would skip them. I just tried Quicktime Player, and while it doesn't give me any errors I do hear blips in the music there too.
I know it's not my hard drive because it started on my old G4 and they're still getting further corrupted on my new Mac Pro (songs that weren't previously skipping are skipping now). It's gotten to the point where about 60% of my purchased music is unplayable! A month or two back I tried setting up a brand-new iTunes library and re-imported all of my music to it, and that didn't solve the issue either (they're still getting corrupted).
I could get iTunes support to let me redownload all the corrupt songs, but I'm afraid that'll be a useless "solution" if it's going to re-corrupt them all again.

  • Why does viewing the same file in two diff. versions of Photoshop give diff. results?

    Hey,
Our designers use CS2 for their work. All of the designs that they work on are in black and white. When the same file is opened at a given zoom %, the files seem to have a different view for CS2 and CC. The print size ofcourse is the same, but our work involves viewing designs of 700 dpi at 3-5% and the difference in viewing the same files matters.
We want to upgrade our software, because CC is way better in so many other functions but this is the only thing that is stopping us from doing so. Please let me know if there's a way to fix this or is it just something we have to accept with the upgrade.
I will share screenshots of both the version with the same file soon.
    Thanks.

    Thanks for the suggestion, Chris.
Same issue, new question - don't ask me why I did this, but while both Photoshop and the now corrupted file were open, I changed the name of the folder containing the file, then continued to save the open version of the file without first closing it and reopening it from the newly renamed folder. Could this have caused both files in that folder to become corrupted in different ways? The other file that gives me the "file is empty" error was not open at the time, but it was in that folder. I'm thinking maybe by changing the path to the files while Photoshop was running, that could have triggered this. ?? I have 3 1TB internal drives raided to read as 1 drive, so I'm really hoping that one of these disks is not dying on me as you suggested. I was also backing up an external drive using BackBlaze when this all occurred - any possible connection? How can I find out if one of my three raided drives (and which one) might be going bad?
    Thanks!!

  • No Audio on HD ripped movies on ATV3 with v5.1

I really enjoy streaming movies and the like from my iTunes library to my three Apple TV's (2xATV2 and 1xATV3). I have ripped and encoded much of my DVD collection and once i got around the audio channels and the fact that i need to have the primary as Stereo I haven't looked back. I use DVD ripper on an old PC and then create the MP4 file with Handbrake on my iMac......fantastic.
recently I have started ripping and converting my Blu-Ray collection into HD mp4's using Pavtube on my iMac. Again i seem to have no problem creating and watching them until recently i.e. Sunday when I upgraded my ATV3 to firmware v5.1........I now get no audio from HD files that i have ripped but no issue with DVD's or downloaded HD content.
My iMac plays the movies fine through iTunes, they play absolutely at 720p on my ATV2's (still on firmware 5.0.2) it's just my ATV3 where i have the problem.
    So I have a few questions: -
    1. Has anyone else experienced this tedious phenomenon?
    2. Is it possible to downgrade the firmware upgrade to v5.0.2?
This isn't the first time that i have encountered oddities with firmware upgrades and an apparent lack of regression testing, but I love the products and what they offer when working. My kids and my wife can make it work!
    Thanks

I thought this would be much simpler than its turning out. haha. i wish there was a simple way to take my MKV blu-ray rip and create a perfect copy that was playable on my apple tv.
that way i could store my blu-rays away and always have digital copies ready to play but without losing video quality!
i'll check out Blu Ray to Apple TV Ripper (yes im on a mac)

  • How to make a pdf rip faster

Hi every one. I just made a post card for a customer in Indesign CC. I export the file as a print pdf. . The file ends up being 4.8mbs. When I try to impose and print the file on my rip software (fiery) it takes 15 mins to rip. Is there any way I can preflight or some how compress my file to that it rips easier? I ran preflight on Acrobat 11 pro on the color digital print  preset and it made the graphics look choppy and put lines through some of the type. Does any one know how I might remedy this problem? I need to find a solution and get these printed today.

Put the terminal of your led in a while-loop outside the rest of the
    diagram (so it can free-run).
Make a local-variable which is true, when the led should be blinking.
Put an Shift-Register inside the loop
wire an boolean constant from outside to the shift register.
wire the signal from the shift register "input" to a "not" function and
    this to the shift-register "output"
wire the signal to an "OR"-Gate
wire the local variable to the "OR"-Gate
wire the output of the "OR"-Gate to your control that should blink
put an "Wait until next ms Multiple" inside and wire a contant
    containing
the blink-length you want to it.
    This should do it.
It sounds a lot more complicated than it is. If you want, you can
Download an example (in LabView 6i) from

    I hope, it helps

  • Duplicate font in PDF causes prepress RIP failure

I've scanned various forums trying to get a handle on this problem but nothing seems to get at this issue.
A book that we've built with InDesign generates pdfs that show a duplicate MyriadPro-Light font embedded in the document. The second iteration of the font has a different icon and is listed with as Type 1(CID) with Encoding: Identity-H. The Acrobat Pro PDF/X-1a preflight doesn't flag any issues with the file, but when I sent the file to prepress their RIP flagged the MyriadPro-Light font as having inadequate permissions. They were unable to substitute a font or bypass the error. What's more, they were unable to print from the packaged source files I provided - getting the same error. They had to brute-force open individual pdf pages in Illustrator, convert to outlines, generate an eps and place 170 eps pages in Quark to get a file that would RIP.
Here's an image link that shows the two MyriadPro-Light font entries with the balky one highlighted.
    http://home.comcast.net/~bjnicholls/fileaccess/EmbeddedFontsAcrobatPro.jpg
I've looked for duplicate MyriadPro installations in my XP SP2 system fonts folder and in the common files/adobe/fonts folder. There were duplicates for several MyriadPro fonts, but only the Light variant is acting up. From what I've gleaned, the Indentity-H suggests the font is a screen font or something along those lines.
I moved all the OTF fonts from the common files Adobe fonts folder trying to troubleshoot the problem. I bypassed my FontAgent Pro utility and ensured the MyriadPro OTF fonts were installed in the system fonts folder with no fonts with similar names.
I theorized that pdf and eps graphics placed in the book documents may have a font variant embedded in them, so I went through all the placed vector format files and converted type to outlines. A subsequent pdf export shows the same duplicate font problem.
I'd appreciate help with a strategy to track down the offending font. There are 11 documents assembled into one InDesign book, I'm generating a book pdf from the book dialog window. I've opened each document looking for font error messages and found none. In each document, Myriad Pro Light shows normally in the font pulldown lists and behaves normally.
Some of the document files were worked on via a Mac. As far as I know the same Adobe Opentype fonts were used by that designer. The documents started out in InDesign CS2, but as my collaborator acquired CS3 we've moved the document into the new version.
In addition to diagnostic strategy advice, I'd appreciate information or links to explain Adobe's application font strategy (dedicated font folders in both the common program files folder and so-called "private" font folders associated in the application folder tree). I've seen many threads where this fragmentation of installed fonts causes confusion and I'd like to understand what Adobe's intent is with this separate font management system.
I suppose I should ask this in the Acrobat forum, but I don't understand why this font issue isn't flagged in Acrobat preflight checking.
Thanks for any light you can shed on these questions.

Therer is absolutely nothing wrong with the scenario of a PDF file having one font subset as regular Type 1 and another as a double byte CID encoded. That is all perfectly kosher per the PDF specification. As such, no PDF/X preflight or any other rational preflight profile will flag this as an error since it is not an error!
I suspect that the "problem" is not that there are two subsets of a particular font, one as a regular Type 1 font and the other as a CID-encoded font, but rather, that there is a problem with the RIP itself not being able to properly deal with CID-encoded fonts. The fact is that CID-encoding has been part of the PostScript language specification for well over 10 years (standard in PostScript 3 and most PostScript Level 2 printers can handle these fonts - even my 12 year old LaserJet 5M can handle them!) and the general PDF specification since Acrobat 4 / PDF 1.3 in 1999 (although Acrobat 3 did support them for CJK Asian fonts).
Note that the scenario you offer occurs not only with InDesign, but with Illustrator, Photoshop, and Acrobat Distiller. All of them can yield PDF files that would be a problem for your printer's RIP.
Looks like your printer needs to update their software to some reasonable level.

  • MP3 files crash wirelessly shared connection

I've been struggling with this for a while, and have just found a solution, but would appreciate an explanation if anyone can provide it.
I have a couple of Windows PCs running iTunes 7.1. The library is stored on a networked disk, but is "owned" by a PC on a wired connection to the router. I have no problems at all on this PC.
The second PC shares the same library, and is on a wireless connection. It will play some files, but others cause a "network stalled" message. This seems to freeze iTunes, and kills the network connection (I have to restart wireless to get any connectivity).
What I have found is that this problem only occurs with MP3 files (some, not all) ripped from CDs. By converting (not re-ripping) these files to AAC, the problem goes away. All the files were originally ripped using iTunes, so the problem is not caused by third party encoders.
I have no particular issue with converting all my MP3s to AACs (in fact I set th eprocess going last night), but I would be interested to know if anybody has seen this problem before, and to understand the root cause.
    iTunes   Windows XP

Thanks Niels, I was giving up hope! What Sonos does is scan the tags and build an index of audio files on multiple shares, then loads that index into the Zone Players (Sonos term) that accesses the file and plays them. I can have multiple wired or wireless audio file sources and Sonos can access them all (<= 16). It uses a mesh WiFi to synchronize the sound reproduction amongst many zone players, I have two and a third on the way. Zones can be joined into a unified single zone, that is all players running together, or broken off into sub groups or individual zones, each playing their own music.
So the index Sonos holds contains tags used for Audio file identification and then a URL which identifies the location, this can be on any one of up to sixteen shares, Mac, PC, Unix, Linux, SAN, etc. What happens with the Mac is that suddenly a tune that played previously, no longer does, and this is because iTunes moved the file, or changed the name, so the Sonos pointer becomes invalid.
It is looking more and more that iTunes cannot be used which is a shame because it runs on Macs and PCs, and we use both. I need iTunes to totally respect my naming conventions, NEVER move a file, permit ad-hoc directory refresh and allow a single audio file repository to be shared. By its cross-platform nature it would seem ideally suited for this, but I am beginning to get tired of trying to make it work.
Complicating the issue is that I am converting hundreds of LPs and Tapes for which I need to manually create directories. Last night for example I found I suddenly had FOUR Chopin directories! All named slightly differently. Won't do...
So any help will be greatly appreciated, I like iTunes but I do not think for much longer...

  • Acrobat 8: How to prevent "Combine Files" from adding a header?

    Hi All.
I am using Acrobat 8 (Win XP SP II) and am having a problem with the "Combine Files" feature. In the past, I've used this function to create hundreds of PDF files from thousands of individiual PDF's. It worked great. But now, suddenly, Acrobat increases the landscape page height from 8.5 to 8.8 inches, and then adds a header containing document name and date info.
I don't want this header. I've looked all over Acrobat and Distiller and converter preferences but can't seem to find how to shut this feature off. Can anyone help me?
To see an example, go to:
    http://www.garywed.com/AcroProblem.jpg
    Many Thanks!
    Gary Wedemayer

I have multiple single-page PDF files lying in a folder; I hit Files-->Combine Files, select the relevant PDF files, and let it rip using any of the quality settings (low, medium, high- makes no difference).
But I see nothing in the Combine Files dialog box that is relevant to this kind of header, so it must be hidden somewhere else. Can't find it for the life of me, tho!
If I have to I'll revert back to Acrobat 6.0 or write a Javascript to combine the files for me, but I know I can do it straight up in Acrobat 8 'cos I've done it many times before.
    Thanx.
