Files suddenly being corrupted opening in PSE7 Organizer

I have PSE 7 on a Vista OS... tonight, with no warning I began opening some photo files in Organizer and they would suddenly appear corrupted - they would take on a horizontal scrambled look... often in shades of grey, but a couple showing color lines. They remain corrupted even if I try to open them through Vista's file manager or through PSE Editor. This is disconcerting to say the least. The photos were taken at differing times, but they would corrupt 'by series'... that is 5 from the same photo batch would corrupt, but another 6 would be fine (so far!). Then another 2 would 'go' and 8 would remain fine (again, so far). Obviously, I've stopped using PSE until I know what's messing with my photos! I've attached one below.

Sorry for the confusion...
In the opening message maybe I was not clear... the pictures became 'corrupt' as I viewed them in PSE 7 Organizer's viewer. Using the largest thumbnail (single picture), I would move through from one picture to the other - a picture would begin to appear, then 'corrupt' (which you explained). They were still corrupted when subsequently viewed in the Windows Viewer and in PSE 7's Editor, which said to me that the files were indeed corrupted and not just appearing improperly in PSE 7's Organizer.
If I view them ONLY in the Windows Viewer, I had no problems with with watching them become corrupted -- ONLY when I viewed them in PSE 7 Organizer's viewer.
Which is why I was looking to PSE 7 as the culprit.
At the moment I'm thinking of deleting PSE 7 from my system and reinstalling it.
Sorry to confuse the issue, I hope this clears it up.

JPG files are being erased by PE 5 Organizer

I have experienced a weird incident with Photoshop Element 5.0, to which I
couldn't believe until I could reproduce it: *the PE Organizer erases all
*.JPG files in the pictures' directory I am working on when closing under
certain conditions.* You will find in appendix the report of the tests I
have been running.
The procedure that leads to files being deleted is the following:
- Initial state: PE 5.0 Editor and Organizer inactive. The directory
contains 2 JPG files (IMG_0177a.JPG). The files in the directory are sorted
by file type.
1. Open PE 5.0 Organizer.
2. Select picture IMG_0022.CR2.
3. Click on "Go to full edit". The directory still contains the 2 .jpg
files.
4. Save the file after edit as IMG_0022.DNG. The directory still contains
the 2 .jpg files.
5. Click on "Open image". The directory still contains the 2 .jpg files.
6. Save the picture as IMG_0022.JPG. The directory contains now 3 .jpg
files.
7. Close the file in the Editor. The directory still contains the 3 .jpg
files.
8. Click onto the Organizer window to give it the focus. The directory
still contains the 3 .jpg files.
9. Close the Organizer. The 3 .jpg files are no longer in the directory.
The appendix shows more details (screenshots) of my tests (see tests 1 and
3).
I couldn't find any configuration in PE that can cause this behaviour. I
could also find no mention of it on your support site. Could you please
help me?
- Is that behaviour made possible through a configuration preference or is
it a known bug?
- If it is a bug, is there a fix for it?
- If not, how else can I avoid such deletions?
- If I store the .JPG files in a subdirectory of that where the raw photo
files are stored, can I be sure that the JPG files will never be erased
through that behaviour?
I have just experienced that incident only this fall because I have just
installed PE 5.0 and started processing raw photo files recently (I had PE
4 up to then).
My configuration:
- PC with Windows XP Pro SP3 and all updates installed. 1.5 GB RAM. Drive
C: is 37 GB, free space is 13 GB.
- I got PE 5.0.2 with my Canon camera I bought in January 2008. I installed
the update in August 2012. No add-on SW has been installed to PE.
- I store my photo files on a NAS disk (La Cie 1 TB, free space: 203 GB)
and use another NAS disk for backup copies (that backup disk is only
running for backups; it was never running when I experienced the incident
below).
- My photo files are stored in directories organized by date and event. Up
to now, I have been storing all types of photo files in one directory per
event (.CR2, .JPG, .DNG).

Not sure why this is happening this way but may be closing PSE processes which access and work upon files in the background might make a difference.
Please launch Organizer and click Edit >> Preferences >> Media Analysis and turn off all checkboxes.
From the task manager, kill the following exes if running-
ElementsAutoAnalyzer
Adobe Photoshop File Agent
Dynamic Link Manager
repeat your workflow and check if the issue still happens.

Tiff files suddenly don't open in preview and powerpoint

All of a sudden my tiff files that still could be previewed two weeks ago, before an update of Lion, won't open anymore in preview and powerpoint. The files are not corrupted, since photoshop opens them normally. Anything know about a bug in latest lion version? Any suggestions to solve this?

Same issue. Can not use DVD studio pro with imported subtitles anymore (TIF Files). Anyone found a workaround?

FCE file suddenly won't open; FCE crashes

A FCE 3.5.1 project that I've been working on for months, suddenly crashes the application.
The file is 3.5Mb. It opens to 48%, says it's "preparing video for display", and then "FCE quit unexpectedly". Other projects open fine. I've removed preferences and reinstalled the application from scratch - no luck. The last time I opened and edited the project (4/6/08) it worked fine; quit gracefully. Since then, I've done a few SW upgrades (listed below). Using Time Machine, I went back to the previous version of Quicktime - no luck. I added another 1Gig of memory - no luck.
I'm starting to panic based on the hours I've put into this project to-date.

.PSD files suddenly won't open

CS3 Extended, on Vista Ultimate,
Was working fine, then one day went to edit a file and got a message saying could not open due to program error.
I have reset preferences and turned version cue off, but still nothing works.
I have previewed the "flattened" image in brava, and in the open console of adobe, so i can see the file is there.
I have reinstalled adobe, but still nothing.
I have tried saving new images and opening them, but they will not!
HELP!!!!!! this has put a project on hold!

It is a diagnosis. It means the preferences in the original account are corrupted. (This happens.)
In the original account reset your preferences as described in the FAQ.

You either have to physically delete (or rename) the preference files or, if using the Alt, Ctrl, and Shift method, be sure that you get a confirmation dialog.
This resets all settings in Photoshop to factory defaults.

File suddenly "cannot be opened" after no changes

Hi
I made this file about two weeks ago, and when I went to go look at it today, it just said "file cannot be opened" without any other information.
I sent to a friend via Dropbox (the file had a bunch of pictures in it) after I made it and all was well,
But she just emailed saying she cannot open it because it says she dose not have the newest pages.
I thought I would just convert the file to Word and then put it through Dropbox, but when I tried to click on it that error message came up.
I am 90% I have the newest update
I can't seem to access file anywhere now. I cannot even download it again from Dropbox. I have made no adjustments since the last time I sent it.
Is there anyway I can figure out how to get that file again? It's pretty important and I have spent a lot of time on it!

I went back and re-read your original post. I want to assume that you created this document in Pages v5+, but not assuming anything, is there a chance that you could have created it in Pages ’08. That certainly would generate a terse, unable to open dialog. Since your friend could not open it in Pages ’09, I suspect that it is a v5 vintage document, possibly created with a version of Pages v5 before the v5.2 update.
I have a couple of Pages v5.2 authored documents that sit on my Desktop. They each get opened at least twice daily. Sometimes, Pages v5.2 refuses to open one or the other. It might refuse 2 -3 times, and on the next try, opens normally. Pages v5+ is not Apple's finest effort.
There are possibilities:
Try pressing the shift key as you try to open your document.
If your friend still has the document you e-mailed her, have her send it back to you. See if you can open it.
Can you open the document with Preview, or Quick Look (click to select, then space bar)?
Do you have this document on a Time Machine backup?
Otherwise, thanks to Apple's penchant for proprietary, cryptic document architecture, nothing on earth can resurrect the content.

Quicktime files suddenly won't open

Hi, I'm running OS 10.8.5. Recently updated some codecs and various other updates for my OS--the most recent updates. Now my videos will not open, nor will jpg's open in Preview! (?) No error messages, just won't open. I am a video artist, and have various file types--it won't open any .mov, .mp4, or any others. All do open in VLC, so it's not the vids. I've been running QT 10.2 with no problem till now. Some weirdness: I noticed that when I updated iTunes (which may have nothing to do w/ this), it updated to the Yosemite version (12.0.1.26), though my OS is Mountain Lion. Help?

Unfortunately, the latest version of QuickTime does not have the ability to export using third-party plug-ins, however Apple has made QuickTime 7 available to install alongside QuickTime X. You can install it from the Snow Leopard install disk or by running a Quartz (*.qtz) file.
QuickTime 7 will install to your Applications/Utilities folder.

AVI files suddenly are corrupted.

I'm having horrible trouble with AVI files. I have two school projects in elements 11 which link to AVI files made with a canon powershot. They were fine a couple of days ago, but now the AVI files won't load. my projects are due soon, and I can't fix it. Can anyone help?

The "worked before but not now" aspect of your issue interested me.
Could you clarify.
a. Are you saying that you have additional Canon (same camera) videos that you want to import into an already started project containing files from this camera and that these additional avi files will not import into that project? If so, do you get an error message and what does it say?
b. What happens if you import these problem .avi files into a new project?
c. What happens if you import again into the current project the .avi that imported with no problems the other day?
If you had not written that these .avi files imported into your project the other day, I would have suggested
a. convert the file to another format if it was established that you are shooting MotionJPEG.avi
or
b. download and install the Morgan MotionJPEG codec if it was established that you are shooting MotionJPEG.avi.

Viewing file location in Windows explorer from within organizer. PE 10

Does anyone know how to view a cataloged file location WITHIN organizer Elements 10 by where the orgainzer opens up the file location in Windows Explorer (Not windows IE Explorer browser). I know you can see the file path in the properties pane but I swear some how I clicked on a file once and Explorer opened up in organizer 10 showing the location in the file tree on the hard disk. I am using Widows 7 Home preminum with all updates. Am I crazy? Thanks.

If you want to see the folder tree click the display button (near top right of Organizer) and switch to Folder Location View.

File suddenly ActionScript 3?

Ive encountered a strange issue.
I've been working on a project for school which started on Flash CS 5.5 and was made with Action Script 2.0. I am working at home and using the trial version of Flash CS6. Today, after saving my work, I'm suddenly getting all kinds of warnings and errors that are telling me about Action Script 3.0. I've saved the file here at home a few times already and nothing like this had happened. Is there some flag, preference or saving alternative I might have accidentally altered? I've tried now to purposefully save the project as a CS 5.5 file as well as a 5.0 just to see if it would stop, but those have not been successful.
I can't just use Action Script 3.0 for this project. My instructor told us to use 2.0 and he hates 3.0. Even if I could work my way around my file suddenly being in 3.0, I don't think he'd appreciate trying to grade it.

i've never seen that happen spontaneously so i suspect that file was saved as an as3 file at some time.
in any case, you can always change publish settings and fix any accidental changes.

Bizarre problem trying to import .MTS (AVCHD) files into PSE7 Organizer

I have recently upgraded my PRE/PSE bundle to ver 7 primarily because the new version of PRE boasts support for AVCHD.
Having installed the new software I quickly tried editing footage in PRE7 with video taken on my Sony HDR SR12 camera (footage taken in full 1920x1080i HD) and it works! Hoorah! I can now finally edit AVCHD footage in it's native format using PRE. Thank you Adobe!
But my joy was very shortlived because when I tried to import some other footage from the same batch into my PSE7 Video Catalog it wouldn't work. I got a pop up box containing the following error:
i "Nothing was imported. The file(s) or folder(s) selected to import did not contain any supported file types, or the files are already in the catalog."
Under this message is a list of the files that I tried to import. Next to each one there is a reason (it's the same reason for each clip):
i "Reason: The file is damaged or is a format that cannot be included in the Organizer."
To import files I use the following method: File / Get Photos and Videos / From Files and Folders
HOWEVER, the files that I imported directly into PRE7 in order to edit them have (surprise, surprise!) automatically been added PSE7 Organizer's Catalog. It takes a quite a while to generate a thumbnail for each clip but it does eventually do it and when it does I can play that footage in PSE7.
Just in case you're confused by this stage... If I try and manually add files to the PSE7 Organizer it doesn't work BUT if I edit that footage in PRE7 and then load the PSE7 Organizer I see the footage has been automatically added. This makes no sense whatsoever!
Am I doing something really stupid here? Why oh why will the PSE7 Organizer not import .MTS (AVCHD) files?!
NB: While searching for a solution to this problem I have, thanks to this Forum, found out about the K-Lite Codec Pack. I downloaded and installed the Basic pack v4.4.5 and now I can, at least, play my .MTS video files in Windows Media Player... I wish I had found out about that a couple of months ago because it would have saved me from buying Cyberlink PowerDVD 8!
Please someone help before I lose the plot.

As you've probably gathered I have now settled on using Sony's Picture Motion Browser (PMB) to Catalog all my video. Sorry Adobe to talk about someone elses product but the Adobe Organizer just can't cope with AVCHD footage no matter how you manage to import it! It's far too sluggish and my PC has an Intel Core i7 940 CPU with 6GB RAM and a 10,000 RPM HDD!
Anyway, in my first post you'll have read me raving about the K-Lite Codec Pack but sadly I've had to uninstall it because it kept on causing PMB to crash. PMB runs much smoother and quicker WITHOUT that codec pack. Something about it clashed with PMB. The once agile PMB became sluggish and unresponsive.
Having now removed the codec pack PMB is back to being agile and generaly lovely.
To view AVCHD footage outside of PMB I have reverted to using Cyberlink's PowerDVD 8 - there's always a pregnant pause between double-clicking on the clip and it playing but that's the only drawback.
If you are going to use Sony's PMB for cataloging your video collection (and I recommend you do so BUT only if you have AVCHD footage - otherwise stick to Adobe's Organiser) then I can fully recommend "Analyzing" all of your footage. This takes time and a bit of patience because it kept stopping for no apparent reason but would readily start up again (without having to do anything else) BUT once it's done it'll reward you with the following:
*Filter on any combination of Scenery, People, Smiles - e.g. with a click of a button you can isolate footage that contains smiles, etc
*Face Search - if you select some or all of the footage in the right-hand pane it will then put a small thumbnail for all of the different faces in that selected footage in the bottom "Face Search" pane. If you then click on one of those thumbnails it will jump to the clip(s) that contain that face and grey out all the other clips
*Expand Videos - This tool is brilliant! In normal viewing mode you get a thumbnail of the video whether you're in Folder view, Calender view or Detail List view. If, however, you select "Expand Videos" from the tool bar it will show you a series of frames contained within that clip. You can choose from "Highlights" or various regular intervals (5 secs, 10 sec, 30 sec, 1 min, etc). The Highlights option does a pretty good job of picking out the significant changes within the clip
Lastly, I have discovered that you can drag a clip from Sony's PMB into PRE7. It won't let you put it directly onto the Timeline but it will let you drop it into the Project file list (found under the Edit tab).
I do hope that this info has helped others like me who are trying to get to grips with editing and cataloging AVCHD footage.

Why doesn't the file stay open in the Organizer?

In all my years of using Photoshop Elements, I've never used the Organizer. I just created files in My Pictures and put them there. After downloading the latest version of Photoshop Elements, I thought I'd give it a try. First I was told I had so many files that I needed to back them up, but then it turns out I have many files which are "missing" and they need to be reconnected.
But skipping over the messy next hour, I found that after I had created one album and then went to scan for the pictures to put into it, not all the pictures that should have been there will visible in the media bin. Instead, I saw images with a torn icon and ones with a question mark in them. I opened one with the torn icon and found it was one of the missing ones that should have gone in the new album. It is a TIFF file. Does the organizer not recognize TIFF files.
Then when I click on the album to open it, it wouldn't open. Finally, when it did open, it was open for a only a few seconds, and then then all the media files came back.
My third question is why can't I create an album and then import pictures into it from another file on my desktop?

Yes, EO does support tiff files.
For the files that are missing, do refer http://psekb.blogspot.in/2013/03/how-do-i-reconnect-missing-files-in.html
For the files that have corrupt thumbnail, delete them and try to import them again in EO.
And to answer your third query, follow these steps:
     1. You can create a new empty album in EO by clicking on "+" widget adjacent to the "Local Albums".
     2. Import photos in EO.
     3. Select them and right-click on the desired album and then select "Add selected Media to Album".

Adober Reader suddenly won't open any PDF files (Mac)

I had an old version, I downloaded the latest one, upgraded to the newest, even tried taking that one out and downloading an older version. It doesn't matter which version I seem to have, it won't open any pdf files from the web.
I use a Mac, and Safari. It used to always load PDF files fine, one random place said I had to update it so I did and since then, lately it'd crash and close all Safari windows when loading a PDF or trying to copy something from a PDF. The smart Mac message I have says it could be related to an Adobe Plug in. However, now it won't even load PDF files at all, it always goes to a white page. Nothing happens.
What do I do?? I can't even save the PDF's as individual files and view then in Preview as an alternative option. It's a link online and normally would work. What happened??

I have a Mac OS X Version 10.5.8
I've always used Safari, it's Version 5.0.5 (5533.21.1 if that means anything).
Acrobat Reader, currently an old version 9.4.0 download. BUT, I had also the 10.0.1 version which also doesn't work. When I had that 10.0.1 version and checked for updates, there was an update (.3 I think?) and I did that and that also doesn't work!
Why did it suddenly stop working?
What can I do to fix it ASAP?
Only with 9.4.0 version I can go to Help and "Repair Adobe Reader Installation" - I click that and the only box I can select is "Adobe PDFViewer Safari Plugin - View, fill-in and collaborate on Adobe PDFs within Safari" - I click continue and it tells me there's "No missing components detected. Repairs are not needed." The only option is to click "OK".
With any newer version of Adobe Reader, under Help there is no option to "Repair Adobe Reader Installation". So... I can't even try that with a new version.
I am at a loss for solutions. Hope someone here can help! Thanks!

There are several things you can do. My first step would be to repair permissions. If that doesn't work log on as a different user. If all works properly then you have a corrupt preference file (most likely) or a corrupt user font installed in your user Library (less likely). If that doesn't work download Applejack. Have it repair the disk, remove all system caches and user caches. Then have it check all system and user preference files. Remove any preference files that are corrupt. Reboot and see if your system is working properly.

Suddenly can't open .eps files in FW8

Hi all-
I suddenly can't open .eps files in FW8. Starts to open and then says "Internal error occurred" Text tool is also acting up. I think it may be related to one of the extensions I downloaded from the Adobe Exchange. Or, maybe it was something I did. Probably the latter. Either way, it seems like my FW8 has gotten corrupted. Ran spyware, adware, defrag, and virus scans. Even talked nice to my computer, but nothing has worked. I looked for patches or downloads on Adobe's site but there are none for FW8.
Anyway, I'm guessing my only option is to reinstall, unless someone out there has a better idea. If I do reinstall, does it erase everything? Meaning, will I lose all extensions and all the settings?

Using Win XP Media center edition v 5.1 Service Pack 3. Been too afraid to upgrade to Vista. Probably about time to upgrade my FW.
