Files to timeline

Sorry for asking such a dumb question and this is my first atempent to use Premiere Pro CC.
I watch a Adobe TV video showing how you just drag a video file from the project panel into the timeline and for what ever reason, it is not working.
I am on a Mac using the new update for PP CC as of yesterday and the files are .mov files. Please tell me what I am doing wrong.
Thanks for your help,
Mike

Hi Mike,
in Premiere pro CC you do not get option of choosing sequence settings by default. In CS6 this option was enabled by default so as you create a new project in CC, there is no sequence setting window for you to choose the settings. So, once you import the clip and create a sequence this way, Premiere pro CC interprets and try to crete a sequence according to the clip so as to match the settings. If you know or want to change the sequence settings you can go to File>new>sequence and create a custom sequence.

Vinay

  • Getting a general error message in FCE when putting .mov file onto timeline

Putting a .mov film onto the timeline above a moving image so we see the mov file playing in a reduced size in the background of whats going on ( a window). Don't know why this is happening but any advice would be appreciated!
We are really stuck so any help would be so appreciated!
    thanks.

Its converted to an mpeg4 file but i think it may be the fact it is running at 30fps as oppose to the rest of the project which is 25fps. When I try to put it on the timeline it gives me the general error and then the footage which was on below it on timeline no longer exists. Very strange.

  • Can your loadMovie "file name" = timeline frame number?

I have a simple slideshow that has 70 slides. Each slide is on a frame in the main timeline and I have the following AS 2:
    loadMovie("Data/5.swf", "container");
    stop();
There will be 70 SWF files in that Data folder. Instead of having to manually type in 1, 2, 3, 4, 5...in that "Data/5.swf" attribute, is there a way to just tell it to load the SWF number based on the current frame? Frame 1 in the timeline loads 1.swf, frame 2 loads 2.swf, etc.
That way I can just put the same AS on each frame instead of having to manually go in and type each one.
    Thank you!

    Hey, kglad. I remember you!
    I adjusted it for AS2:
              loadMovie("Data/"+this._currentframe+".swf", "container");
      stop();
    Thanks!!!

  • Is this a bug? Invisible file on timeline?

I have a file laid out on the timeline and another file next to it. However, the first file cuts to this other file then cuts back to itself with nothing above or below it on the timeline. It's like there's a file that is invisible and can't be moved on the timeline that it keep cutting to. Any ideas on what the issue could be?

I'd try rendering again (maybe after removing the existing render files), or as a second possibility I'd try trashing preferences.

  • Can't import AVCCAM files to timeline with OSX Lion upgrade

I used to be able to edit AVCCAM files on the timeline with the Panasonic plug-in for Final Cut Pro 7, but since upgrading to Lion, I can no longer import the files.  Is there a workaround?

did you try reinstalling the plug-in?  The conventional wisdom is that you shouldn't upgrade the OS, but do a clean install of the OS and all apps.  Never a bad idea.  I spent years without doing a clean install without any problems until my system did a total meltdown on an upgrade.

  • Moving Files In Timeline

How can I highlight and move individual or multiple files in a timeline (using the keyboard) by so many frames at a time?
    Thank You!

Once the clip(s) are selected in the Timeline, type in the number of frames (or minutes and seconds) that you want to move them, then hit ENTER. If you want to move them to the left, use a minus sign in front of the numbers you enter.
Entering 12 will move the clip(s) 12 frames to the right.
Entering -12 will move them 12 frames to the left.
Note that if other clips are in the way of the move, this operation may not work.

  • Double-click On PSD File And Timeline Disappears!?

Have dropped a .psd file on track V2 and want to resize it in Motion window.
So double-click it but timeline seems to vanish and a "negative" clip or something appears in the middle left of where timeline should be.
How do I make .psd behave like a normal clip and prevent the timeline from vanishing?
Incidentally the .psd has a coloured shape with a transparent background.

    Hi Ian,
The PSD opens in its own sequence in the timeline to let you change the values of the various layers that it might be composed of. If you make a PNG, it will not save the layers or let you edit their values in FCE.
If you want to change the motion values of the whole PSD file and not change them individually for the separate layers, select the PSD in your original timeline and click Enter to open it in the viewer.

  • Problem with AVI file in timeline

    Hi,
I am importing an avi file into After Effects CS3. When I play the file it is fine but when I drag it into the timeline it messes up in one spot. It makes part of the movie transparent and adds wierd artifacts. It goes away again after a few frames. How can I fix that? What is it?
    Thanks

In what format is the AVI? Is it highly compressed, like, divx, xvid, or some other format? Your best bet may be to transcode that avi to a different format prior to using it in AE. Some good format options would be Quicktime "Animation" codec @ best/full quality, or an uncompressed .avi (file size will be larger).

  • Random files in timeline suddenly showing up as red "placeholder" graphic

Everything was fine in the timeline until one time I reopened a project I had been working on and random
files are seen as that red placeholder graphic. If I right click on those files in the timeline I can "reveal in project" but
"link media" is greyed out when I try to reassociate those files.
All the files on in the same project folder on the same drive.  I'm using CS3 with the latest patch.
Is this some kind of bug in Premiere?

I haven't had any Windows' Delayed Write errors or any error messages. In the Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Event Manager>System I checked for warnings related to the F:\ drive but only saw the occasional C:\ hard drive warning.
I never installed any drivers for the drives.
The bizarre thing is that I can move the "placeholder" files to a higher or lower track and it will show right up but after I save the project and reopen it the problem is back. Same thing with unabling then enabling "placeholder" files...the files immediately show back up but saving doesn't make the project open back up without the placeholders. All other changes can be saved, however.
Since this project file is a 2 minute portion of an 18 minute movie I'm working on(post-production effects) I'll work on another
project file containing other aspects of the movie for the time being(as long as that project file doesn't end up having this same problem).
Ultimately, I have to believe that transfering the entire 500GB worth of project files, etc... to the C:\ Drive of a new workstation(in a couple months)
    will solve everything.

  • Premiere CC crashing when MP4 files in timeline?

I have a project that keeps freezing up whenever I try to play MP4 files in the timeline. Other codecs aren't having any issues, and this wasn't a problem with the previous version of Premiere CC.

It seems to be the newest version of Premiere CC that crashes every time a certain mp4 file plays in the timeline. The previous version of Premiere CC didn't crash with the same project and mp4 file. It has only started crashing since the v8 update. It crashes about 10-20 seconds every time it plays through the file.
Haven't installed any additional codec packs that I'm aware of.

  • Stretching a psd file on timeline

i can stretch any file on the timeline except a psd file. i can stretch them to a duration of infinity, but not a psd. can you tell me why and how i can remedy it?

A Photoshop document is not a clip or image file, it's a sequence. That's why you can't drag a new duration. You need to set the duration, as Nick said, before you import it. If you have to give it a new length, you'll have to double click the PSD sequence to open the nest and extend it there.

  • File Formats & Timeline

    Greetings all,
I was wondering if there was a video file format which, when brought onto the Final Cut Pro timeline, does not need to be rendered initially?

Final Cut Pro supports a wide range of standard- and high-definition formats.
    Standard Definition:
    DV, DVCPRO, DVCAM
    DVCPRO 50, IMX
    Uncompressed 8- and 10-bit SD
    High Definition:
    HDV
DVCPRO HD, XDCAM HD, (and XDCAM EX in FCP 6)
    Uncompressed 8- and 10-bit HD
none of these formats need to be rendered when plonked in a native timeline ... my guess is either your source files are not camera native or you've not set your sequence settings correctly to match your source

  • Unnecessary Rendering of Files in Timeline

For some reason, recently I've been having to render an entire video file when I drag it into the timeline. The files that I am importing shouldn't have to be rendered in the timeline, essentially it should be just drag and drop with zero red lines above it. These files are quicktimes with a Motion MPEG A codec (Integer Big Endian). I have Final Cut 6.0.
This is a problem due to the tremendous amount of time rendering, not to mention if I edit the clip in any way, I will have to re-render the file.
Should I be converting these files into a different format through MPEG streamclip?
Or is there some setting in Final Cut I should be modifying in order for there to be no rendering of this clip when dropped into the timeline?
    Thanks.

#28 Having to render every clip in the timeline
Shane's Stock Answer #28: When I put a clip in the timline, I have to render it before it will play. Why?
Your clip settings MUST match your timeline settings. If you have DV/NTSC material, you need a DV/NTSC timeline. The frame rate, audio rate and dimensions (4:3, 16:9) all need to match exactly. In Final Cut Pro 6, this is easy, because when you drop a clip into the timeline, it asks if you want to set up the timeline to match the settings of the first clip you drag into it. Click YES and you are ready to go.
However, in FCP 5.1 and earlier, it is a bit trickier.
The most important thing you need to do is properly set up your project from the start, and the best way to do this is to choose a setting from the Easy Setups, located under the Final Cut Pro menu.
Once you do this, you’ll need to create a new sequence. This is because the sequence that is already in your new project is setup for the typical default setting of DV/NTSC, or for the settings of your last project, which might not match what you are currently working with. So delete SEQUENCE 1 and create a new sequence:
This new sequence will contain the settings you chose in the Easy Setup menu, and should match the format you captured.
Motion MPEG A is not a supported format in FCP, so you need to convert to one you see in the Easy SEtups.

  • No sound from .mov file in timeline

    Hi all,
Hoping someone can help me with this question! I want to use a .mov clip downloaded from the web in a project. I can play the audio and video just fine in the canvas, it has 2 audio tracks and all seems well. But when I drag the clip into the timeline, only the video appears in the timeline, no audio. The 2 audio tracks aren't transferred. I am stumped!
    Thanks for any suggestions.

Well after my 3rd attempt at converting it with Streamclip I can now use that file just fine in the timeline, audio & video are both there. Don't really now what the difference could have been between that attempt and the first two as the settings were all the same and all conversions seemed to run completely. In any event, the problem now seems to be gone.
    Thanks for all the help!
