Files with accented / special characters dissapear / not visable

I did everything which was suggested in threath http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=875688&threadrate=2&messageid= 4170111#4170111 but have another problem which maybe new:
All the files appeared when I first used the USB HD on my Airport Extreme but a few weeks ago I tried to play a song via my Itunes and suddenly all my files containing special characters or accented characters where not recognized anymore. For example "josé gonzales - heartbeat.mp3" was gone...! Also in Finder.
I connected my harddrive to directlly to my mac and all the files we visable again! I did the account trick with password and moved all the files in the sharedfolder but still alle the files with accented characters where not visable??? I can't seem to find a solution? Does anyone got the same problem?
Qryn

Actually, The inso filters do not even work for me for PDF file versions 1.2+. Is anyone else experiencing the same difficulties ? How often does Oracle update the INSO filters to keep up with vendors (Adobe/Microsoft) coming out with newer versions of their document products ?

if i try to download a file with any special characters in file name (e.g. File_Name.pdf), it doesn't reconvert them from the "sanitize url" process and download the file an incorrect name (e.g. File%5FName.pdf).
This is really annoying.

• ITunes music file with filename 255 characters will not download

Hi all,
I recently purchased an album from the iTunes store where by a single track fails to download and produces the error as follows:
There was a problem downloading
“Here Comes the Sun / A Symphony of British Music: Music For the Closing Ceremony of the London
2012 Olympic Games / Urban Voices Collective, Pete Lockett, Rahda Meta, Prabhat Rao, Varun Verma,
Toby Pitman, David Arnold, Bilwal Iyer, Eos Chater, Tania Dav".
An unknown error occured (-50).
Things to note:
+ All other tracks downloaded perfectly
+ I have been able to download other albums/tracks before and after with no problem
+ Looking at the filename, it seems to be >255 characters so wondered if this is the problem.
+ I can download the file via the cloud to my iPad, but for some reason via my Mac it wont work.
+ It's worth pointing out that My iTunes library is located on a Synology 212+ NAS drive.
+ I have an itunes library of over 78G of tunes, movies and apps from the store that all work fine
on there apart from this one music file - again the file length stands out.
+ every time I download something new ,it keeps erroring with the same message as iTunes tries to re-download the file
so its essentially stuck. same with check for downloads etc, the file remains stuck and errors the same.
Are there any known issues with hosting your itunes library on a NAS drive?
Again, the only thing that stands out about this file is the file length and its the only track I have had a problem with.
Is there any workaround I could try i.e. some how copying the file from iPad manually over to iTunes library (truncating the name), will this remove the stuck file from my download queue?
In the meantime this file is essentially stuck in my iTunes (Mac) download queue and I am missing a track from the album.
Many thanks for any help offered!

• Batchloader file with en dash characters in metadata not loading

I'm trying to batch load metadata which has en dash characters (long hyphens) in the data.
After I have loaded the batch file the en dash characters are not displayed correctly in UCM.
I have manually added metadata which includes the en dash character using the UCM checkin page and it works fine.
I have tried escaping the character in the batchloader file but it didnt work, I tried using \–
Is there anything else I could try?

• Using accents/special characters in keyboard WAY TOO SLOW!

I'm often using french, and thus many words have many accents (just a short phrase exemple : l'été passé j'ai dû boire l'amère potion de la déception... A short sentence, 5 accents. Can be worse).
I'm typing pretty fast, and already getting frustrated because the french keyboard doesn't have the ' included, which would save so much time in contractions. (Would probably be added automatically if I could use the corrector, but I can't, cause switching from french to english all the time, I just get stupid jumble all the time).
But the worst of the worst is each time I need to type an accented letter, I lose 2.5 seconds! Because that's how long it takes for the accents options to pop-up after I hold my finger on the letter...
It's completely ridiculous!
Typing a short 3 letter word like "été" takes over 6 seconds!
It makes me so mad!
I almost completely stopped writing my french emails or Facebook updates and such from my iPod Touch and prefer to wait until I'm on my MBP! Is that normal when you have the chance to own the Touch?!
I've contacted Apple about this many months ago, but like any complaint I've had in the past, never heard of them.
Has anyone else have such a delay with the accents/special characters keyboard (popups)?
Is there something I can do?

Simply copy and paste. Just did it and it worked. Perhaps I'm not understanding something. What do you mean by "insert a font."

• ESB or BPEL file adapter and special characters

Hi,
We have a scenario where we import rows from .csv file through an ESB project into a database. We use the file adapter for this. There appears to be a problem with special characters (like é). Both in the ESB control (with variable tracking) and in the database, they appear as upside down questionmarks (¿). I've tried doing the same with a BPEL project (file adapter as client PL) and in the BPEL console, I also see strange characters instead of the expected special characters (diamond shaped characters, like ♦ to be precise).
I can't find anything about character sets of character set conversions in the documentation. What am I missing?
Regards,
Arjan

see
http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/B31017_01/inte
grate.1013/b28994/nfb.htm#CIAEFBHHI've looked into the properties mentioned. They are set when you go through the wizard. Everything is set to UTF-8, which should provide me with all special characters I need.
BPEL does the exact same thing, so I'm starting to believe that the problem really is with the file adapter.

• Reg:special characters are not priniting while selecting the CS language

Hi All,
When I am trying to print in CS language some special characters are not printing.
Even when I was trying to create the entries in TTDGT table ,these special characters are not created
( příkazu) here r & i are the special characters. instead of special characters simply r and i were created .
Could you please advice me on this how to resolve this .
Regards,
S.chaitanya.

Hello Chaitu,
I think you are working on scripts and trying to create the Script in different language?
However, try to copy the text in CS and paste it in STandard Text. If it is not displaying properly then Try to log in to the same language and try to paste that Text in the STanard text So10. If it appears properly then your issue is fixed.
Please let me know if the issue is while printing the Script form, i mean are you able to view it properly in the Print preview...?
If this is the issue then it is not an issue at your end user needs to check whether his printer is supporting their langauge or not.
Also check with the related language package . for ex I had worked on the Script form and tried to convert it into chinese i faced the same issue so when i checked with the System Admin he installed Asian Langauge Package in my system. After that I was able to convert the script into Chinese properly.
Hope this will be helpful..

• Problem with Icelandic special characters on Mac

Hello
I am working on a Flash publication for students, and I want it to run on Mac as well as PC. Everything goes fine, except a problem with three special characters in my language, Icelandic. I am working on a registration and login page where I am using text boxes and text input boxes. Everything looks correct on PC, but on Mac the characters Þ Ð Ý are lost.
I have tried different fonts etc.
Any idea what is wrong?
Jónas Helgason

Hello Jónas,
Did you ever figure this out ?
I have a similar problem except only with two letters (both upper and lower case). These two Icelandic letters can't be entered into a Flex TextInput box in the Flex apps I am creating when they are loaded on a Mac. The letters are known as &Eth, &eth, &Thorn and &thorn in HTML terminology. Typing these characters on the keyboard results in the following: { [ ? /
However I can copy the characters in question from some other app like TextEdit and paste them into a TextInput box in my Flex app and all is well, they show up correctly.
This happens regardless of the Mac browser used and the Flash plugin version used (have tried both 9 and 10) and also happens in the standalone Flash Player application.
Does anyone have any idea how to fix this or is this a bug in Flash Player ? This is really annoying as it makes text input into Flex apps on Icelandic Macs very difficult.
There must be something wrong with the mapping of keyboard key codes into character codes on the Mac that is causing this.
Btw, I just heard from a friend that this problem does not exist in MacOS 10.6. I am running 10.4 and have tested this on 10.5 and it exists on both of those OS versions.

• Unity Connection 8.6 LDAP or CUCM Import with german special characters called "Umlaut": ä, ö, ü

Hi,
for jabber 9.1 integration i sync'ed all users at Callmanager, Presence and Unity to our LDAP (MS AD). with CUCM and Presence (both 8.6.x), it works fine, just Unity Connection sync the Users from AD, but i cannot import Users with german special characters ä, ö, ü (i.E. German Name in LDAP-su: Müller).
Jabber 9.1 need for Voicemail Integration the AD Authentication. Know somebody, if there is an Workaraound or Fix ?
This is a general issue, with or without Jabber, with sync directly from AD, or indirectly through CUCM (sync'ed with AD)
thx and regards
Jacky

I located an identical defect (CSCts28455) that was closed as unreproducible. The defect references CSCtj73444 "Add support for UTF-8 password to LDAP and RADIUS/MSCHAP" which is added to 8.4.2 with the recommendation of RADIUS/MSCHAP or LDAP only for international character support. It would make sense to go to the latest in your current train (ie: 8.4.4.1.ED) and see if the issue remains. What you want to do appears to be supported.

• Transfer/Reply to emails with french special characters - BB 9360

Hi,
I've got a problem when I reply/transfer to mails with french special characters (such as "é" "è" "ç" etc..) => all the special characters are replaced with strange characters such as chinese letters or others.
No problem when I send an email with those same characters, it appears only when transfer or reply and only on special characters contained in the original mail I transfer/reply to.
is there a way to solve this issue?
thanks

while pressing the 'e' key, scroll your trackball side to side, you will find the various e variations.
You can do that with most keys to get special characters.

• Jar (or Zip) file with problems in accents, special characters

Hi! I've a servlet that creates a jar (or zip) file and then send it. My problem is that when I create an entry in which the filename has special characters such as accents, when I unjar or unzip de file, it brings a lot of garbage characters. For example, the nex entry:
Exmenes.doc
when unzipped is:
Ex?menes.doc
I've tried a lot of things:
-Setting the locale to ES, MX
-Replacing all the letters with special characters with its unicode (like s.replace('','\u00E1')
-Trying to convert it to UTF8 (new String(path.getBytes(),"UTF8") )
-Replacing the file separator char (according to a workaround that I found in the bug database)
But nothing of this worked, alone or together. I've read that this is (or was) a bug in the API, but don't know if a solution has been found.
Any help will be greatly appreciated!

• A name should not start with any special characters

I need to put a condition in iF statement such that a name that is given by the user should not start with any special charecters.A dialog box should display indicating this conditon. Can u plz give sample code for this.My code is as below.
//text box for giving the name
JTextFeild ReportNameText;
//the name is stored in String
String name=ReportNameText.getText();
//Here tell me how the if condition should be written
//condition to be mentioned

Already asked, and answered, here: http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=727919
See reply 4 in that thread, and scsi-boy's suggestion of writing another
method to check for "special" characters. And the links to the String
and Character API documentation given.
