Files won't transfer from PC to Itunes

All of a sudden, I can't add mp3 files which are on my PC to iTunes. They are able to be dragged from the folder on the PC but don't show up in iTunes. I've tried dragging them and also using the file/add file to library command but neither works. I've tried adding them to My Ipod and to Playlists but nothing works. It all worked OK this morning! Help please!

i have the exact problem last week when I signed up to receive a free epub in the email.
When the email arrived I proceed to open it in ibook on my iphone and started reading, after 2 chapters I decided to sync the phone with my computer and found that it won't sync the newly downloaded epub, not even showing it in the device list in itunes.
So I tried the same thing on my ipad, download to ibook, sync with computer. Same result: the book was not synced and won't show in ipad's book folder in the device list.
Still haven't found a solution

  • Web-downloaded epub files won't transfer from iBooks to iTunes

    Hi!
Yesterday, on my iPad, I downloaded two epub files from a website (using Safari) and opened them directly in iBooks. They work fine, show up in my Library with no problem. However, I can't get them to sync down to iTunes. This is definitely not the first time I've downloaded directly to iBooks from an app on the iPad (although maybe a first for an epub from Safari?), but this is the first time I've had issues syncing down to iTunes.
I've synced and resynced and resynced and they won't transfer; not only do they not transfer, but if I open the Books folder on the iPad when it's mounted in iTunes, they're not listed. I could put them on my laptop first and then load them into iTunes and to the iPad from there, but I've highlighted and bookmarked in both books and don't want to lose all of that if it's avoidable.
Any ideas? I'm wondering if there's some limitation of iBooks that I don't know. And if there is, is there a way to now get the epub files out of iBooks some other way? (To maintain bookmarks/highlighting.)
    Anyway, thanks in advance
P.S. As a test, I just did the same thing on my iPhone with the same results: file won't sync down and doesn't show up when I browse the phone in iTunes.

  • Some video files won't transfer from old Macbook to Macbook Air

    Hi all,
My old Macbook (circa 2008) recently stopped working, so I upgraded to a new Macbook Air. I had the harddrive of my old Macbook extracted and made into an external harddrive, and then used Migration Assistant to transfer my data to the Macbook Air. I then upgraded to OS X 10.9. However, I have found that several video files I had saved on my old Mabook do not appear on my Macbook Air. These are a mix of .mpeg and .avi files. I reconnected the external harddrive and located these files on it, and tried copying them to my Macbook Air one by one, but they won't transfer and I recieve the error message that the operation cannot be completed because the file is in use. I can play them in quicktime or VLC direct from the external harddrive, but can't save them to my Macbook Air. I tried restarting my computer, reconnecting the hard drive and so on, but to no avail. I tried transferring other videos that had come accross with Migration Assistant, and these copy to my Macbook Air without any trouble. But the files that didn't get transferred just won't. Is there anything I can do to get these files onto my new computer?
    Any help is appreciated!

Open the library on the EHD with the Finder as shown in this screenshot
and look in the Masters folder to see if any of the original files have zero bytes? Do not make any other changes/alterations, i.e. look but don't touch.  If you do find zero byte image files  then it's not the copy process that is the culprit but the files are bad to start with.

  • Applications won't transfer from ipod to itunes

I recently got a new computer and I'm having trouble with transferring the applications. Whenever I click transfer purchases from ipod to itunes, nothing happens and when I go into the itunes store logged into my account and try to download previously bought applications, it makes me repurchase it. How can I transfer the applications in my ipod touch to itunes?

Have you authorised your new computer? Purchases will only transfer to a computer authorised to play/use content from the account the purchases were made from. These links may be of some help:

  • Some iPhoto files won't transfer from external drive to the hard drive.

I had all of my photos on an external drive and I wanted to put them on the hard drive of my iMac.
While copying all of the photos over, some of the files copied as 0 bytes into the "Data," "Originals," and "Modified" folders, but not the same files. So, some images have no thumbnail image in iPhoto (guessing from "Data"), some have no original image, but have a modified image, and some have no image at all (the 0 byte files that are only in "Originals."
The images are all fine on the external drive still.
Any idea of what I can do? Any file I can zap from the library or something to make this work?
    Thanks for your help.

  • In Disk Mode and songs won't transfer from IPod to ITunes

When I called Apple, the gentleman told me that I first needed to put my IPod into Disk Mode. I got my IPod into disk mode and thought I'd be able to transfer songs very easily, atleast it was last time. I had to reinstall ITunes and lost my Library so I thought I could just pull them off my IPod. Anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks!

These links will give you several methods of recovering whatever songs remain on your iPod; some free, some third-party software, some more comprehensive for restoring Playlists, Ratings, Play Counts, etc. Read them and their associated links before deciding on a strategy that works for you. There are many various third-party software programs that will offer a more robust process, or an easier GUI. Do a Google search for them if the links below leave you wanting…
Don King Resurrected: Deleted files from hard drive (free user steps – music recovery only)
MacMuse: Computer Crashed (free user steps – music recovery only)
Copying music from iPod to computer (a primer on various methods and software)
Copying Songs from Your iPod to a Mac or PC (resource for 3rd party software)
    iPodRip Software
    PodUtil Software
    YamiPod Software (Mac & Windows)
    PodPlus Software (Windows)
    TuneJack Software (Windows)
Senuti (Mac OS X v10.3 or higher Recovery Utility)
XPlay (Windows software For Music Recovery &/or Cross-Platform Functionality)
XPlay Photo Browser (For recovering Photos)
Extremely Simple Method: (just to recover the song files – may not work on a Mac)
    1 - Open iTunes
    2 - Edit=>Preferences=>’Advanced/General’ tab
2a --- Select ‘Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library’: checked
2b --- Select ‘Keep iTunes Music folder organized’: checked
2c --- Click OK to store changes
3 - Attach your iPod to the PC and hold down the ‘Shift+Ctrl’ keys until the iPod is fully recognized (this will defeat the auto-sync process)
4 - If you get a dialog box to link the Library, decline this option
5 - Within iTunes: Edit=>Preferences=>’iPod’ tab: switch iPod to manual transfer – click ‘OK’
    6 – Eject iPod
7 – Close iTunes, then reopen iTunes and attach the iPod (it’s in manual sync now)
    8 – File=>Add Folder
9 - Browse to and open ‘My Computer’ (click on the ‘+’) and select the iPod
    10 - Click OK
-- The music files should start to transfer back into iTunes with its correct information
–-- This will take some time depending on your PC’s speed and the amount of songs on the iPod
No Playlists, or Ratings, Last Played, & Play Count attributes will be transferred from the iPod to iTunes using this method.
If you have problems with seeing the iPod within 'My Computer', try again switching your update method to 'manual', detach the iPod, then reconnect the iPod to the PC.
After recovering your Library, strongly consider developing a thorough backup strategy for just this type of situation (and many other potential disasters).
You need at least two full sets of your music, not including what is on the iPod:
-- One full set on the PC within iTunes (on internal HD or ExHD)
-- One full set on an separate external backup medium (CD/DVD/ExHD/other)
-- One (full or partial) set on the iPod
Music files on just the iPod and only one other medium is not considered having any backup.
If you cannot store your complete music files on the computer’s internal HD, then create and maintain at least two external sets (any multiple combinations of ExHDs, DVDs, CDs).
Backup both the music files and the Library database file (iTunes Library.itl). What are the iTunes Library files?
Here is a post on developing a thorough backup strategy:

  • AudioBooks won't transfer from ipod to itunes on computer.

I bought a new iTouch and want to transfer my purchases from my old iTouch onto the iTunes account on my computer. I have backed up the old iTouch and everything but the Audio Books have transfered to the computer and to the new iTouch. I figured I could download them by going through the iTunes store>purchased>all books, but nothing is there. I can find the proof of purchase for these Audio Books by going through iTunes store>Account>Purchase history. Why can't I find them and transfer them from one iTouch to another? (The old iTouch is a fourth generation, the new iTouch is the fifth.)
I need some help, because my daughter is going to be taking my old iTouch so I want to factory reset it, yet I don't want to lose my books.

I recently bought a movie off my iPod. I wanted to watch it on my mac so I synced my iPod to it and the movie showed up in iTunes without the album artwork. When I tried to play the movie it wouldn't play. There is, however, a sync icon next to the movie. I tried clicking 'transfer purchases from iPod' but that still wouldn't work. How can I get the movie to play?

Is it just not possible? I'd rather not listen to these with a computer on my lap.
    Thanks for any assistance offered.

Apparantly I didn't dig deep enough into my iPod. It is showing up in Playlists. I had to go tell it to sync manually on a menu option in iTunes I couldn't find before.
    Now, to try my iPhone!

  • My mp4 movie files used to transfer from computer to iPad but now they will not Tried dragging and dropping to iTunes library but won't work anymore Plse help

I have mp4 movie files that i am trying to transfer to my ipad and it will no longer work.  They will not copy to my iTunes library. I used to be able to transfer/drag and drop converted movies to my iTunes are the mp4 files maybe too big Although I have plenty of space

    Howdy Anastasia,
I was thinking about why the songs arent importing and I feel that its either, A) the format of the files has changed since you last imported them, or B) you may need to rebuild the iTunes library.
Here is an article about doing just that:
iTunes: How to re-create your iTunes library and playlists
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1451
    Re-creating the iTunes Library file
Note: After re-creating your library, any devices that you sync with iTunes (Apple TV, iPod, iPhone, iPad) will see your iTunes library as a new library and will completely resync. The next sync with such a device will take longer and may reset some options since your rebuilt library isn't familiar to the device.
    1. Quit iTunes.
    2. Locate your iTunes folder (this is the folder that contains the iTunes Library and iTunes Library.xml files).
    Operating System
    Default location of iTunes Folder
    Mac OS X
    /Users/[your username]/Music
    Microsoft Windows XP
    \Documents and Settings\[your username]\My Documents\My Music\
    Microsoft Windows Vista
    \Users\[your username]\Music\
    Microsoft Windows 7
    \Users\[your username]\My Music\
    3. Open your iTunes folder.
    4. Drag the "iTunes Library.xml" or "iTunes Music Library.xml" file to the Desktop. If neither is available, learn how to add files back to the Library (because the XML file is not available, playlists and other information will not be available).
    5. Drag the following file from your iTunes folder to the Trash:
    Mac OS X
    "iTunes Library" or "iTunes Library.itl"
    Microsoft Windows
    "iTunes Library.itl"
    6. Open iTunes.
Important: Do not add any content into iTunes at this point (such as by purchasing something from the iTunes Store).
    7. Choose File > Library > Import Playlist.
    8. Navigate to the "iTunes Library.xml" file on the Desktop.
    Mac users: Click Choose.
    Windows users: Click Open.
If your Podcasts list in iTunes is empty after following these steps, learn how to add them back into iTunes.

  • Hard Drive on PC whiped transfer from iPod to iTunes?

So my computer crashed and I had to whipe my HD. Can I transfer my music from my iPod to my PC or iTunes library. Obviously I don't have any other back-up for my music.

Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTMS purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod
The transfer of non iTMS content such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there is a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows. The procedure is a bit involved and it won't recover platlists. Also it was written long before iTunes 7 so it requires a little adaptation as the iPod preferences are no longer in the location described for instance also it won't transfer playlists. However if you're interested it's posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes
If you prefer something more automated then there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can also read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes

    iPod2PC Windows Only
    iGadget Windows Only
    iDump Windows Only
    YamiPod Mac and Windows Versions
    Music Rescue Mac & Windows
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows Versions
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up in case you have problems again. Relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • Transfer from IPT to ITunes

I reloaded my computer OS and of course lost my Itunes stuff on the hard drive. Now I want to save what is on my IPT 2g to the newly reloaded Itunes. The sync messages indicate they will erase the (music, videos, etc) on the IPT and replace with what is in Itunes (nothing). How do I transfer from my IPT to the newly installed Itunes?

Have you ever considered what would happen if that player stopped working or was lost/stolen? If you didn't have a backup of your music on it then you would have lost the device AND your valuable collection. Apple has always restricted the ability to sync non-purchased data from iPod to computer so at this point anyone that purchases an iPod should be aware of this. It is always a good idea to back up data you have on any device that allows you to. It may seem like an inconvenience but it won't feel like one when you actually need it.
