In Finder files and word documents are grey . How do I make them Black so I can access documents and upload. Is there a fix for this problem ?
Before upgrade of Maverick there was not a problem.

Try searching your account for any ".doc" files (Word documents) by going to File > Find and using the options below:
If you don't find any of the documents you are looking for in the search window and nothing else is missing then it would be wise to get a second opinion ASAP before any chance of data recovery is lost.
Make an appointment with a Mac Genius at an Apple store (they don't do data recovery but may be able to see something we can't see from here) or contact an Apple Authorized Service Provider to see if they can look around the hard drive for you.
If the second opinion reveals that the data is really gone off the entire computer then you will need data recovery software or service:

OLE: Why placeholders of MS Word document are not replaced?

Hi Experts, I am using OLE to create Word Documents within a LOOP. The problem I have is that the Word Documents are created and seved well but the placeholders (&nom_prov') and (&ncod_prov') are not replaces by the values (in the example: test1 and test2).
Anybody can help me in with that issue?

PDF / Word documents to be saved and accessed

Hello,
My client wants to have certain documents available for all the CRM webclient users. These documents are typically pdf, word files which contain information about competitor/market research and related stuff. The users should be allowed to access them from CRM screen, as they would typically access a folder from computers and see/download these documents to their computers. These would be typically a repository available only to CRM users.
How would you approach such a requirement?
Any ideas are welcome!!

You can use the existing attachments tab. You can add the attachments tab to your screen and upload your files.
The uploaded files will be listed in the attachments table view.
OR
You can develop a custom view and uppload documents to the MIME repository using CL_CRM_DOCUMENTS class, method CREATE_WITH_TABLE and store the returning logical and physical id's in a custom table.
Then in a table view display the filenames by reading the logical and physical id's. Create an SICF service with a handler class and when user clicks on the filename, the handler class is called and the file is opened for preview.

Can not open linked files - word documents

Hi,
Currently running SLED10sp1 with Adobe Reader 7.0.8 at a school. Some educational CDs use PDF documents with links to various files on the CD, especially word .doc files.
For example, one of the CDs has a start.pdf file in the root of the CD. When you open it it has a menu of a couple of categories. When you click on one of the categories it open activities.pdf which has an index of various subjects.
When you click on one of the subjects Adobe Reader says "Adobe Reader could not open 'act-01-01.doc' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded)."
Click "OK" - the only option.
Adobe Reader says "The application "/media/path/do/act-01-01.doc" is set to be launched by this PDF file. The file may contain programs, macros, or viruses that could potentially harm your computer. Only open the file if you are sure it is safe. If this file was placed by a trusted person or program, you can click Open to view the file."
Buttons available are "Do not show this message again", "Do Not Open" and "Open".
Clicking Open does nothing.
When double clicking act-01-01.doc file from Nautilus it opens fine using OpenOffice.org 2.1's Writer.
When running Adobe Reader from the command line the following output is generated when clicking on the link to act-01-01.doc:
sh: -c: line 0: syntax error near unexpected token `)'
sh: -c: line 0: `DISPLAY=localhost:10.0 ; export DISPLAY ; ( ) &'
Then when the "Open" button is clicked:

The "Allow documents to open other files and launch other application" tick box is ticked in the Preferences.

Thanks Salil, that works for one CD, the other CDs have spaces in files and directories and it looks like Adobe Reader doesn't know how to deal with the spaces.
For example:
In a terminal I execute:
acroread /media/MQ_9_NSW_5_3_SE/PDF/MQ9\ NSW\ 5_3\ Tech\ files.pdf
When I click on any of the links that link to a word doc files Adobe Reader exhibits the exact same behaviour as in my initial post.
This is the path of the file Adobe Reader tries to open:
/media/MQ_9_NSW_5_3_SE/Technology files/MQ9 NSW 5_3 TI GC programs/TI GC word docs/010-CoinflipTI.doc.
When I click open, this is what echos in the terminal:
sh: /media/MQ_9_NSW_5_3_SE/Technology: No such file or directory
I hope there is a workaround for this because the mime fix only helped me with 1 out of about 10 CDs.
For Adobe Reader to open Excel documents would I append:
application/msexel; ooffice "%s"
to /etc/mailcap?

My documents are grey.

I just downloaded the latest Reader, adjusted the settings as in other posts and my documents are still grey. They print, but I can't see them to edit them. They also download to Word as grey. I need them, please

Sorry, I don't think I made myself clear on what I am trying to do. I am looking for a way to do this process a lot quicker. Sometimes these agendas could be 100 pages. Since I can only select text from one page at a time from the PDF after I scan it, this takes up so much time. What I am looking for is a way to open up the PDF file after scanning and be able to select text from all the pages and cut and paste into word. For example:
I scan 20 pages and save to PDF
I can view all 20 pages - pages 1 to 20
I want to highlight text starting at the beginning of Page 1 and ending on the last word on page 20?
Cut and paste everything into word
Is there a way to do this or should I be using another Adobe product to accomplish?

Something changed firefox into a word document in cryllic how do I fix it?

some how firefox is now a word document. Desktop icon is also a word icon. When you click on it a word document pops up asking for file conversion with Windows cryillic the defrault. I am sure a virus did this. I have swept my machine, but cannot install firefox over the old programs.

Creating table in MS Word document via OLE: how can I specify column width

What method and properties do I need to use in order to specify the width of each column in a MSWord table created via ABAP using OLE ? Or, better yet, how can I create a table where the columns are sized using the Autofit feature?
I am already familiar with the standard sample code for creating a word document that contains a table (found in ZOLE_WORD_DOC_CREATE).

My Word documents are not opening from sharepoint

When I attempt to open a word document from sharepoint it remains stuck at "Downloading: http://intranet/document url"

This occurred when we restored a server after virus issue. Also I noticed that I left one of these word documents in this "downloading state" and the next morning when I opened my station the document was open... therefore it seems to just be taking
WAY too long to open.

Is this SharePoint a stand alone server, where web and database are in the same box ?
Do you know what steps changed settings from before virus, then, after virus ? Maybe people left the anti-virus running on
military emergency mode, and it's consuming all server resources.
You might want to check the database files' sizes, WSS_Content mdf and ldf. Is the ldf way too big ?

Excel graphs in Word document are totally black

I have a large word document that contains quite a few excel graphs. Many of the graphs translated into acrobat fine, but some of them are totally black with the line portion of the graph showing up on a black background. Any ideas what may be causing this?

If you are having problems creating a PDF, there are two steps you should do FIRST
Go to the appropriate vendor web site and apply all updates to the program you are using (several recent messages have concerned problems with MS Word conversion, with the response that different versions of Word have different BUGS that must be fixed by a download from Microsoft - and MS Office products are not the only ones which may, from time to time, need to be updated to work properly)
Go to the Acrobat update page and apply the updates for your version of Acrobat
IN NUMBER ORDER (updates are not cumulative so, using version 8 as an example, you must apply 8.1.0 before the 8.1.1 update)

Word documents are garbled when sent through Outlook Exchange. I know something in the profile folder gets corrupted. Anyone know what?

Our school district uses the web based version of Outlook Exchange. Several of us using Apple computers have had problems when sending word documents as attachments. When received, the document is full of garbled text. This has happened with different model computers, running 10.5.x or 10.6.x. I determined that removing the items from the folder in profiles (Users-> <user> ->Library->ApplicationSupport->Firefox->Profiles-><profile folder>) the problem is resolved. However, all preferences for Firefox are then lost. Does anyone know what specific item in the folder would cause this?
