Filesharing problem Mountain Lion to Lion?

This issue has just happened out of the blue this past week. My MacBook is running 10.8.2 and trying to connect to an iMac running 10.7.5. I am getting the error message saying:
"There was a problem connecting to the serve "(server name)". The server may not exist or it is unavailable at this time. Check the server name or IP address, check your network connection, and then try again."
My Macbook is working through an airport which is assign DHCP across both WiFi and ethernet cpu's and the iMac is on the ethernet side.  This has not been a problem until this past week.??? HELP PLEASE!

iTunes is a separate App and it will only indicate an update is available but you can choose not to install.  However, I believe if you want syncing without iCloud you may need to update.

  • Problem Mountain lion, Pages PDF and Quartz filters

    Hello,
With some PDF file created with Pages (iWork 4.2) in Moutain Lion, Quartz Filter don't work.
    Example :
    - Create a new doc with template "Personnal News" ("Nouvelles Personnelles in french) in "Newsletter"
    - Print dialog, "PDF" button "Open PDF with Preview"
    - In Preview, export in PDF with filter "Gray Tone"
--> Problem : The PDF created is not in "Gray tone" but in color
--> Same problems with others Quartz Filter, they do anything
    - With template "School" ("Lycée" in French) --> Final PDF is a mix of color and gray tone !
    - With template "Extrems Sports" (Sports Extremes in french) --> No problem, quartz filters works
If i create the PDF with page export and use "Preview" (or Color Sync utility"), Do a PDF export with  a Quartz filters.
    --> same problem
No problem with same manipulations before Mountain Lion (in Lion, ...). I think it's a Moutain Lion bug but it's very strange!
    Has anyone noted this bug?
Is anyone know a solution to this pb?
    Thanks
    Note :
    - I have the problem with a simple update of Lion in Moutain Lion and after a clean install of Moutain Lion.
    - I have a boot disk with 10.5 Leopard and if i open the pdf file with Preview, the PDF file exported with quartz filter is ok.

I think it's a Moutain Lion bug, i hope it will be fixed in the next update of Moutain Lion...
But, i have found a workaround for this issue.
With a PDF file with this problem :
    - Open the PDF with "Preview"
    - Print, button "PDF", "Save to PostScript Format"
    - Open the PS file with "Preview" --> Conversion to format PDF
    - Save the PDF file
    - Reopen this PDF file with Preview
--> Export can be do with Quartz filter (sometime with filter "Gray Tone", Preview crach, but with filter "Reduce File size", no problem
--> If a use "PDF Clerk Pro" to export this PDF with quartz filter, all filters work.

  • Mountain Lion and Lion very slow on Macbook 13' 2010 Middle

The problem is the Mountain Lion and Lion very very slow, but Snow Leopard was fast.
The Lion bit faster, the Mountain Lion is much slower.
Animations are choppy and slow, but sometimes fast, but mostly random stuttering. If i have multiple windows opened, the Misson Control is very slow and useless. I think the system UI framerate is low (about 10-15 FPS)
Overall, the system response is very slow, and lagging.
I tried to clean dinstall several times, but this didn't help me.
I know that the new system is slower on older machines, but it would not be so necessary. This Machine is good machine, and i think this is enought for Mountain Lion. Will Apple fix this slow issue soon (maybe 10.8.3), or stay in this state?
At current state of the system is unusable due to the slowness.
Or is it a non official solution to fix this?
    Thanks for your answers.

How much RAM do you have installed? 4 GB RAM is generally recommended as a reasonable minimum since kernel_task (part of system) consumes up to 1 GB; my browser consumes another 500 MB or so. So, if you like to multi-task and have several things open, then you will need to increase your RAM. This problem will not be fixed; I sent in a bug report and the reply was that this is how it is intended - 64 bit addressing consumes far more resources than 32 bit (Snow Leopard).
You'll need to look at your processes in Activity Monitor, quit some apps while working on others that are CPU intensive, and increase the RAM if possible.

  • HT4759 Before upgrading to OSX Mountain Lion from Lion, my mail and iCloud connections were fine. Now, the connection is almost non-existent (iCloud "connecting" forever, mail icon jumps). My network is good. Any solutions?

Does anyone know how to eliminate the "jumping mail icon" that stems from iCloud not connecting correctly? I just upgraded to Mountain Lion from Lion and before, everything was fine, but now the synch between iCloud and mail seems to be out of whack and the "connection doctor" doesn't help and nothing seems to get rid of the problem.

After upgrading to Mountain Lion from Lion, Mail, Safari and Note need about five minutes to start.
After starting, Mail answers are very very slow. The same for Note. Instead of, sending mails is only a bit slower than before upgrading.
In Safari, I choose Goggle as starting page in Preferences, but at every restart misses that starting page and the search strip says "Seek Google or instert an address".

i just want to mention that the samw thing was happening also for the notes and the reminders apps!! (they quit unexpectedly!!).

    Thank you graphicsluc!!!

  • I currently run Mac Pro with three hard drives. Can I dual boot or even triple boot with Snow Leaopard on one drive and Mountain Lion or Lion on others?

I currently run Mac Pro with three hard drives. Can I dual boot or even triple boot with Snow Leopard on one drive and Mountain Lion or Lion on others?
I need to keep Snow Leopard so that I can run some old softward.

If you are careful you can put at least two on one drive, having Recovery from Lion and Mountain Lion on their own drives though.
CCC can clone Lion Recovery - great for moving or backup.

  • Easiest way to upgrade from Apple Mac OS X 10.5, Leopard to Mountain Lion or Lion without buying Snow Leopard?

I have a 2009 Macbook Pro with Apple Mac OS X 10.5, Leopard on it and I'm starting to get annoyed with the fact that some stuff is not compatible with this OSX anymore. I would like to be able to upgrade to Mountain Lion or Lion but without having to fork out £15 on Snow Leopard when it won't get used, or should I upgrade to Snow Leopard and not bother about upgrading to Lion or Mountain Lion.
    Thanks in advance
    Matt

You have to get Snow Leopard first.
Start by checking if you can run Snow Leopard:
Requirements for OS X 10.6 'Snow Leopard'
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575
The OS 10.6 Snow Leopard install DVD is available for $19.99 from the Apple Store:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
    and in the UK:
    http://store.apple.com/uk/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
but nobody knows for how long it will be available.
When you have installed it, run Software Update to download and install the latest updates for Snow Leopard.
To use iCloud you have to upgrade at least to Lion, but some functions are only available in Mountain Lion:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4759
You can also purchase the code to use to download Lion (Lion requires an Intel-based Mac with a Core 2 Duo, i3, i5, i7 or Xeon processor and 2GB of RAM, running the latest version of Snow Leopard), or you can purchase Mountain Lion from the App Store - if you can run that:

  • I have updated to Mountain Lion but both Mountain Lion and Lion are showing up in my App store as needing to be downloaded? Help

I have updated my mac pro to Mountain Lion, but when I go into my updates in App store it shows both Lion and Mountain lion needing to be updated. They are not coming with a cancel option and when I download Mountain Lion it tries to download for a very long time, but then shows and error and shows up again as needing to be downloaded. Lion is now on pause to keep from downloading it. What do I do to get rid of both of them.

Hi again, when you clicked on Mountain Lion and Lion in the App Store you are telling the laptop to reinstall them both.
You may have allowed simutanious downloads checked at the bottom of the window, I don't know, but I expect Mountain Lion is downloading, so Lion is waiting for it to finish, so if you have Mountain Lion installed cancel both download's.
    Cancell both downloads anyway.
Go to the apple logo , top left, click on it, then click on about this mac, a window will open telling you what's installed,  Mountain Lion is OX 10 version 10.8.2 click on more info, to find out more, Lion will be OX10 version 10.7.4.
Only update were it say's check for updates, not download now.

  • HT6104 Can we install safari 7 in lower OS versions like Mountain lion or Lion?

Is it possible to install Safari 7 in Mac Mountain Lion or Lion OS?

    Yes you (we) can!
Just download the latest Mavericks update 10.9.5, open the .pkg with pacifist and extract Safari 7 to Desktop. Right-Klick it and choose "Show Package Contents". Now open info.plist with TextEdit, search for "LSMinimumSystemVersion" and replace "10.9" with "10.8.5". Keep in mind that extensions will not be loaded because of the passwd from Keychain's "Safari Extensions List" isn't the one needed.
    Cheers!
