Filesyncagent error

hi
i was just surfing the net (firefox), when the macbook forced me to do a restart (and nearly caused me to have a heart attack, as i thought some major problem was about to happen). the only other program running was entourage.
upon restarting, i got an error message stating that the application filesynagent had failed to launch and got an option to send a report to apple. my .mac icon was missing on the desktop and spotlight started indexing too.
i did send the report to apple.
i then proceeded to restart the macbook and again got the same error message. this time however, i hit relaunch. it took a bit of time, but eventually it launched and i now have my .mac icon back on my desktop.
is this something i need to worry about? meaning, is it a problem with my macbook or a problem with .mac?
thank you for your thoughts =)
dominique
ps: apologies if this is not the right place to ask. i am not sure what filesyncagent really does, so had no idea where to post it =)

just had another error message, but for dotmacsyncagent this time.
again, hit relaunch.
no further error message.

  • Kernel error - force restart + filesyncagent error

    hi
all of a sudden, i am having major issues with my macbook.
i get a message asking me to restart.
once that is done (and it takes quite a while), i get a launch error for filesyncagent + an kernel for the mac os x.
this is happening every 2-3 minutes or so.
what do i have to do to fix this?
    help? ideas? suggestions?
    anyone?
many thanks for your help. dominique

ok. so for the morning update.
after getting up and feeling "lucky" (or hopeful, as the case may be), i tried to restart while still at home. i wanted to add that my macbook automatically connects to the internet via wireless.
i got the MAC OS X error message (from the crash last night to shutdown) + the FileSyncAgent launch error message.
i eventually ended up having to crash it again to shutdown. not feeling so "lucky" at this stage.
i turned everything off and left for the office with the plan to take it into the apple repair shop sometime today.
once in the office, i decided to try to turn it on. just to see what... and if.
i got the MAC OS X error message (but this is obviously linked to the crash i did at home to shutdown. definitely not something that is happening as i start up again.)
i have no internet connection here. airport is actually turned off.
this time however, i did not get the FileSyncAgent launch failure and it launched perfectly.
on hindsight, the only change i made in the last couple of days was turning on Firewall in System Preferences. i have now turned that off completely. not sure if this is linked, but worth a try.
i will leave it running for a bit and see if it gives me the "Need To Restart" message again or not.
the way i see it, this is not a RAM problem and i don't think it is a MAC OS X problem either.
i think it is either the Firewall and/or AirPort and/or iDisk.
if you would like to see them, i have both the FileSyncAgent Log and the FileSyncAgent Crash Log. i am happy to post them here or to send them to someone by email.
over to you =) or whoever has any thoughts on this.
i will report further as the day goes by.
    have a nice day. dominique

  • How to remove old MS Virtual PC resources

Hi, I'm getting FileSyncAgent errors in the Console from an old VirtualPC bundle file. How do I discover what file is making this call, to then clean it up?

That error message described exactly where that file is:
    Library (at the top-level of your boot drive) -> Plug-ins -> DiskImages -> VirtualPCDiskImagePlugin.bundle
Try deleting that file (or perhaps just moving it temporarily to the Desktop) to see if that eliminates the error message.

  • Leopard (10.5) error: " EXCEPTION: Reverification failed for..."

I went on the road for a week (while I'm on the road PHDs don't sync) and when I returned and tried to sync my changes I'm getting all sorts of errors. Some errors seem to have cleared themselves up after several sync (which is bothering in and of itself) however I'm getting persistent errors that are called "reverification" errors (see below). Does anyone have any idea what these errors mean???? By the way these files are not getting sync'ed, yet I'm not getting any messages popping up to the user, the only way I even noticed is because after the first sync some files where still the old copies on the server, I had to go to the logs to try to find the errors.
Here's an example of just one:

Thanks for the input, this was helpful, however problem still not solved. This is very ugly if you ask me and very disappointing as PHDs have seem to have been nothing but problematic forever.
Yesterday I took a different approach to try to clear this particular problem. I manually mounted the AFP share and then one by one for each of the files that I was getting errors on, I copied the newer file over the older file.
To make matters worse, when I was comparing the files I noticed other files in the same directory that were out of sync and had NOT been generating errors. In other words these files had been silently not updating!!!! So I copied these files as well, but some had to go up to the server and some ad to go down.
Then a ran a manual sync. Interestingly I got conflicts that I had to resolve on the files that had been getting the errors, even though they were now the exact same file. The info for the file, displayed in the conflict resolution window, was the old file info even though that info was no longer correct since the two files now matched.
So I just tried your advice and took one folder that had in it both files that some were updating and that some were not updating and renamed the folder. I then ran a manual resync. At the end of the sync, basically all FileSyncAgent had done was copy the older named folder from the server to the local copy and the local newer named folder up to the server. So I now have TWO copies of ALL the data in BOTH places. However, that doesn't help much as I'm still going to have to go through and find the latest copies of all the files and over write the older copies, basically the same thing I did yesterday.
To further complicate things, as I've been typing this, another sync kicked off and during that sync it tried to move files from the older folder to the newer named folder, but gave me "Directory Not Empty" errors.
This is so frustrating. At this point I have no idea how many files are out of sync or what the best way to fix this is.

  • Portable Home Directories, FileSyncAgent, and Case-sensitive drives

I have a 10.5.3 Server machine that is serving (via NFS) home directories to a mixed group of Leopard (10.5.3) and Linux clients. The drive containing user home directories is formatted to be case-sensitive. I also use Portable Home Directories and mobile accounts on all the Leopard clients. Many of the client machines have case-insensitive drives.
FileSyncAgent is dying on the client machines with a lot of "Reverification failed" messasges in ~/Library/Logs/FileSyncAgent.log. The files being verified often have mixed case file names, while the error messages show lower case file names.
Anyone else seeing FileSyncAgent dying on every home sync?

Hi Guys, So far I have found what seems to be a fix for this issue. I was also having the issue happen to me around some iphoto file but that seems to be coincidental. I will detail what I did below but please first backup the mobile account on the local machine as you will need to recreate it.
Backup the local mobile home folder
Log into a admin account and delete the mobile account under the Accounts Pane in System Prefs
Log into the users Network account on the notebook
    Delete all the following items
    ~/Library/Application Support/SyncServices
    ~/Library/Mirrors
    ~/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.syncservices.*
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.filesync.plist
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.homesync.plist
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.LaunchServices.plist
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.syndication.plist
    ~/Library/Preferences/Syndication
Logout of the Network account and then back in
    Recreate the Mobile Account
From this point on I have not seen any issues with the FileSyncAgent crashing. Omit any of the files listed above that do not exist. I generally have the notebooks sync on login and logout and I forced a sync while logged in to make sure everything was okay and so far so good. Hope this helps.

  • Strange system log error

    Hi everyone.
    I'm having some trouble.
Today i saw my system log file have an error going.
    its a
iMac AOSNotification[165]: [AOSNotification] XMPP session not connected - no ping sent
and it is coming all day long.
i'm sure it have something to do with MobileMe or some synchronizing thing.
Anyone have an idea of what to do ? I did try to log out and back in on MobileMe.
    But it didn't help.
    Thx

    Hi.
Yes. it is synchronizing with my Notes, Keychains, Bookmarks and Calendar but not with a iPhone
Just the normal MobileMe on the computer. The iPhone is manually synchronized with iTunes and not with MobileMe.
But the strange part is. I even deleted all the MobileMe sync preffs such as
    user/Library/Application support/Preferences/host/com.apple.AOSNotification
    user/Library/Application support/Preferences/host/com.apple.DotMacSync
    user/Library/Application support/Preferences/com.apple.FileSyncAgent.plist
and logged out of MobileMe preffspane in systempreffs.
And it is still giving me the same error in system log ????
Really weird now that i eint logged in ?

  • The application "whatever" cannot be launched.  -10810  Getting this error.

On Friday, I ran into a issue where I can't launch new programs from the dock.
When I try to launch something, it gives me an error message. The application "Firefox" cannot be launched. -10810.
I end up having to reboot the whole computer. Then I can start programs again.
But after half an hour, the issue is back and I am getting the error again.
I am typically running Mail, Safari 3.1, Parallels, newest Firefox and Adium (newest version).
I can't really relate it to any specific single program that is causing the problems.
What does that error message mean?
    Anyone have any ideas?
I already installed the new firmware update today, hoping that would magically fix it. But it didn't help.
I have all the latest apple updates for the computer installed, and Leopard.

  • "Unable to find node..." error

Does anyone have any idea what the error below is trying to tell me???
I'm getting these every time I try to sync this same package file called "personal notebook.ntx".
    1) When I look inside the package file there is no such file. There is a file called "req_of.gif", but no file with a "._" preceeding. On top of that this is a standard AFP based home directory (not CIFS, or NFS).
    2) Every time the sync runs, the file that gets the error CHANGES! So one time it'll be the file I just mentioned, the next time it'll be this file:
    "Documents/NoteTaker-NoteShare/Personal/personal notebook.ntx/Attachments/._s117018.jpg"
The next time I'll be this file:
    "Documents/NoteTaker-NoteShare/Personal/personal notebook.ntx/Attachments/.smlogo2.gif"
And so on. There are about 84 files in that directory and if the automatic syncs are let run enough times, it will eventually generate an error on most of the files in that directory (but not all

Hmmm, Ok, this is helpful, however we're now in an area I'm rather unfamiliar with so need some more help (thanks for this by the way).
    First what I know...
    * Everything below the directory "personal notebook.ntx" is part of a package and not directly under my control but under control of an application called Notetaker. I have however, been having to look into the packages a lot recently due to the fact that the modification dates don't seem to work the same in Leopard as they did in Tiger (I mentioned this in another thread, but no one seem to have any insight on it http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1244035&tstart=0). By looking into the package seemed to be the only way to be able to verify whether or not my files were being sync'ed correctly as I could no longer rely on modification dates.
    * Checking the rest of the files in the package shows that a lot but not all of the files have that attribute set. All the files in that directory have that attribute set.
    * I don't consistently get the same file to error out every time. If I run the sync two times in a row with no changes what-so-ever a different file will generate the error.
So questions that come to mind since I haven't dealt with extended attributes very much....
    * Are you saying that the extended attributes could only have been set by a Leopard client? A Tiger client would not have been able to set them? (I'm syncing these files between Leopard and Tiger clients).
    * what is the "com.apple.FinderInfo" attribute? Can I delete it? What would I lose? The fact that not all files in the package have this makes me wonder whether or not it's necessary.
    * why would FileSyncAgent have a problem with extended attributes?
    Thanks for any help.

I was hoping someone could help me with that too. I freeze multiple times a day since upgrading to Leopard and this seems to be the culprit. Any help would be much appreciated.

  • Chflags error while syncing files

I've just set up Portable Home Directories for a small organisation with six Macs (10.5). On each workstation, I created the mobile account, logged out, put all their files in the new directory, then logged in again so it would sync to the server (10.5 Server).
Five of the six were fine, but one has a problem with about 145 files. (I say about because sometimes it is 142 and sometimes it is 148.)
On login, the sync starts, and as it is working away, a window appears headed
Home Sync Error 1 of xxx
xxx keeps increasing from 1 to the total number. The sync window eventually finishes, leaving this window and the account not fully logged in, ie, nothing can be done in it.
    The window contains this:
There is a problem syncing the file "Braggadocio".
Unknown error: chflags('/Volumes/Users/samantha/Library/Fonts/Braggadocio',0) Please try again later. If this problem persists, contact your network administrator. [I am the network administrator :-)]
    On The Network
(preview of the file or its icon)

    Size: 41.05 KB
    Modified: 27/01/2006 11:00 AM
    Location: Macintosh HD/Users/samantha/Library/Fonts/Braggadocio
Clicking on the Next button just brings up the next file.
When the Next button has been clicked 145 times, login completes and I can work in the account.
In the list of files are a lot of fonts, but there are a lot of ordinary files too. In the case of the ordinary files, there is just nothing in the directory on the server to match the file on the client. For the fonts, the directory on the client contains 77 font files.
The directory on the server for this user is filled with 2695 files with names like:
    .fstemp.HomeSyncMirror_PeeraKXKDjiNIF1-samanthaHJ78ghgykhk.noindex
but none with names of fonts. For other users on other workstations who have been through the same process, the folder on the server contains just the font files.
When I logout, a similar message appears, but listing only six files.
I have looked through all the logs on the server and the client and can find nothing indicating what this error is. On the client, at about the time it is logging in, All Messages contains:

On the server, I have logging turned on for file sharing, and the AppleFileServiceAccess.log file shows accesses, but none for the files that are being complained about, and no error messages. The system.log file has entries for FileSyncAgent every few minutes, but does not say what they relate to. And they were occurring before I logged in. It also has a lot of entries for backupd which makes me wonder whether Sync Services uses the Time Machine backup engine to do the syncs.
    So, some questions:
    1. Which log files should I look at to find out what is happening?
    2. How do I get more information logged, particularly on the client?
    3. What is going on??????????
    Thanks for reading this.

Well, contrary to what was in the error message, it was not related to flags that could be changed by chflags. It turns out that somehow a bunch of files had got ACLs on them that prevented them being deleted. I'm guessing that the sync process tries to clear any flags before copying the file to the server, and that it failed because of the ACL.
The fix was to remove ACLs from all of the affected files. This can be done in Terminal as follows:
    1. login as an administrator
    2. cd to the directory where the affected files are
    3. Type sudo chmod -N ./*
Note that this does not remove ACLs from files whose names begin with a dot, so you may have to do them individually.
If the files are scattered in a hierarchy of folders, cd to the top one, then type
    sudo chmod -R -N ./*
Note also that this removes ALL ACLs, so make sure that none of your files need the ACLs before you run the command.
As for the log files, I had been looking in the system log files on the client Mac. In fact, you need to look in the user's Library/Logs folder for files beginning with FileSyncAgent. The messages in there were of no use in diagnosing this problem unfortunately, but at least they gave me a list of the affected files.

Hi. I am getting an error when trying to back up to our server which runs on an XServe for storage of files. We synchronize when we log on and off and this stopped working for me a few months ago. Here is the message:

  • Lots of Error messages in Console during restore...

    Hello,
I am writing, because I have concerns about the restore of my new iPhone 4. Now I´ve noticed this issue for the third time I did a restore from a backup of a previous iPhone model and I just want to verify if this is critical or not...
After restoring my iPhone 4 (iOS 4.2.1) I checked the Console for logs and found these strange messages that don´t look so good to me.

Now these are just extracts and examples, but these message occured during the whole restore process, which lasted for about 2hours including app installation. If you need the complete log files I can send them to you on request. I really would like to know WHAT this exactly means. Hope somebody can explain it to me.
    Thanks a lot so far.

And finally - this problem seems to have been fixed with iOS 4.3. Or at least the sync session is closed after it runs into this error instead of just hanging.
The initial sync (after upgrade) failed a few times with this same error message as in earlier messages but now appears to complete.
The console still contains errors that I need to look into:
    FileSyncAgent[184]: UNLOCK /.FileSync (FAILED), httpStatusCode:-1, errorType:100 (domain=DMGeneralErrorDomain, code=100), transactionState:5, txnId:B219557B-F471-4066-811A-0A37A05D4F33, auto-retries=0, manual-retries=0

  • Error in starting Adobe Bridge in Photoshop CS2

I've just installed Photoshop CS2, however upon opening Adobe Bridge this error message appears " The application has failed to start because libagluc28.dll was not found. Reinstalling to application may fix the problem"
I have reinstalled and click repair but to no avail

    c:Documents and Settings/Jesus M Ferraris>

but an error message appears - 'cacls' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or bathc file
I also entered the next command
    cacls "c:\documents and setting\all users" /Y /E /C /G administrators:F

  • Windows Vista: Ipod Error Message, no longer read by PCs

    Hello,
I have a 5th generation black ipod video with 30GB of memory.
The other day I hooked it up to my laptop (Toshiba, 4 months old) that it's been functioning on with no problems whatsoever. This weird error message flashed twice about it not being able to sync because of some software problem.
Eversince then, the only thing I can charge my ipod on is the family treadmill in the basement (~_~) as no other computer in the house recognizes it. I can't even charge it through the wall sockets, either.
I have changed the ipod cord, still no luck. I've also reset the device about 3 or 4 times and uninstalled, restarted the laptop then reinstalled itunes. I would like to reset it back to factory settings but that's impossible as computers/laptops don't pick it up. I live very far from a Mac store...
What's a girl to do? I can't live without my Busta Rhymes and Wu-Tang Clan!
Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

you have to update Vista go to this site and up-date http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com

  • Error while offsetting a variable

    Hello Experts
I want to display the data for last 5 years in my query. So I tried using the SAP exit variable Current Calendar Year (0CYEAR) and the offset it by 5. However, I am getting the following error message for the query "System error in program SAPLRR12 and form REP_ASSIGN_INITIAL_OPT-01"
Any Help on this is appreciated and points will be assigned.
    Thanks

Thanks Chetan for your prompt reply. I have assigned points.
But I would appreciate if you help me clear my understanding of offseting a variable.
Say if the Current Calendar Year variable returns 2008, then will offseting that variable by 5 return me the data for years 2008, 2007, 2006, 2005 , 2004. Or, will it just return me the data for 2008 - 5 = 2004 only.
    Thanks
    Rishi
