FileVault asking for old account password when upgraded to Mountain Lion

This is not good.
I recently updgraded to Mountain Lion.
After the upgrade process, my account log in no longer was accepted by FileVault. (FileVault Legacy)
The system is stating that:
" Your user accont password is different fomr your FileVault Password
This can occur if your user account password was changed recently. To update your FileVault password and continue loggin gin, enter your old user account password"
Yet, the last time I changed my password was perhaps over 1 year ago, certainly not recently, and defenitely after many OS upgrades?
How can this happen??
Now I can not access any files (Am I expected to remember a password from 1year+ ago?) ... Major Fail.
Anyone having the same issue or a tip to get out of this crazy loop?

Repair your permissions, go to applications  then utilities, then disk utility.  On the left hand side click on mac HD, then click repair disk permissions.  Restart your computer and test again once permissions repair is complete.

  • IMac keeps asking for user account password when changing Airport

Whenever I change anything in Airport (switching networks mainly) my iMac constantly prompts me to submit my user account password. All other macs don't do that. Any clues?

Suggest that if you haven't already taken the next steps....open System Preferences > Network > AirPort and delete the current wireless connection by highlighting the name of the network, then clicking the - (minus) button at the bottom of the connection list. Click OK and then Apply.
Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > KeyChain Access and locate the name of the wireless network, then highlight and delete that entry.
Restart your Mac to see if that will allow you to start fresh.
If still no luck, I'm afraid it's getting down to a re-installation of the operating system on the Mac.

  • Thunderbird asks for wrong account password when I try to send an e-mail

When trying to send an e-mail from gmail account A, Thunderbird prompts me for the password for account B. All identities in Thunderbird & account settings on Gmail.com are verified as correct, as well as my account settings and outgoing server settings in Thunderbird.

To ensure that each gmail account is definately using the correct SMTP.
First make sure the top mail account is definately set as default.
    Tools > Account Settings
select the top mail account in list
    click on 'Account Actions'
If it is set as default, the 'Set as default' option will be greyed out.
Then check the second gmail account is offerd that option, but do not select.
Start with the top one - the default gmail mail account.
Tools > Account Settings > Outgoing Server
select the first - top server and click on EDit.
Under 'Description' give it a name that's easily identifies that gmail account.
it is only used to help you id the account when there is more than one SMTP using same server settings.
eg: 'Personal' or 'Business' or 'first part of the gmail email address' the bit before the @.
Make sure the Username = email address of account which will use it. the top account in list - the one you want to use it.
    click on OK
then Select the top mail account in the Left Pane.
bottom right where it says what Ougoing Server (SMTP) to use, click on drop down list and select the one that says:
    eg: 'Personal' - smtp.gmail.com
Do the same for the other gmail account
Go into Outgoing Server (SMTP) and select the second smtp listed.
    click on 'Edit'
Give it an identifiable 'Description' -
Make sure the username is the second email address.
    click on OK
Then select second gmail email address mail account and select the correct - second gmail smtp using the description to help identify it.
when finished click on OK to save settings.
When you are certain that each gmail mail account email address has an smtp server that is using the same Username in the smtp server please confirm.

Hard Drive warning when upgrading to Mountain Lion. 2nd try and I was able to upgrade. Software update for IPhoto, had problems restarting. Do I need my hard drive checked

    Yes.
Choose Apple menu > Restart. Hold down the Command (⌘) and R keys as your computer restarts.
When you see a white screen with an Apple logo in the middle, you can release the keys.
Click Disk Utility, and then click Continue.
In the list at the left, select the item you want to repair. (Be sure to select an item that’s indented to the right in the list, not an item at the far left.)
    Click First Aid.
If Disk Utility tells you the disk is about to fail, back it up and replace it. You can’t repair it.
    Click Repair Disk.
If Disk Utility reports that the disk appears to be OK or has been repaired, you’re done.
Otherwise, you may need to do one of the following steps.
If Disk Utility can’t repair your disk or it reports “The underlying task reported failure,” try to repair the disk or partition again. If that doesn’t work, back up as much of your data as possible, reformat the disk, reinstall Mac OS X, and then restore your backed-up data.
If you continue to have problems with your disk, it may be physically damaged and need to be replaced

  • Why, when MobileMe was shuttered, does Apple NOT support calendar subscriptions for iCal (Calendar)?  I upgraded to Mountain Lion and cannot migrate my Dutch, U.K., Islamic, or Catholic holiday subscriptions.

Why, when MobileMe was shuttered, does Apple NOT support calendar subscriptions for iCal (Calendar)?
I upgraded to Mountain Lion and cannot migrate my Dutch, U.K., Islamic, or Catholic holiday subscriptions.  I had a heck of a time getting my Detroit Tigers Baseball team schedules migrated (but Major League Baseball supported the subscriptions, so it occurred).  As I work internationally, having these calendar subscriptions on the new Calendar would be very useful.
If one goes to the Apple site, and seeks calendars [http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/calendars/index1.html], they are shunted to MobileMe [https://www.icloud.com/mobileme/not_found/], with the note "MobileMe is closed. Go to iCloud."  But, I do not see how to get subscriptions from iCloud.
    Thanks.

The problem is that many of these calendars were hosted on MobileMe. I actually tried about 20 at random, and only two worked! Not all of the failures were ex-MobileMe, some were on other servers but produced 'File Not Found'.
Strangely, this one worked despite its URL:
    http://ical.mac.com/ical/UK32Holidays.ics
Until the people who publish these calendars (it's not Apple, they are third-party) wake up and find alternative servers these calendars are not available.
There may be other sources which work - try Googling.

  • Hi, Hi, Hi  I have the old MacBook Pro. Upgraded to Mountain Lion which completely wrecked the system. So downgraded to Snow Leopard. The updated the combo update. Now stuck on blue screen at start-up. Need help. Greatly appreciated. Thank you.

    Hi,
I have the old MacBook Pro. Upgraded to Mountain Lion which completely wrecked the system. So downgraded to Snow Leopard.
Then updated the combo update. Now stuck on blue screen at start-up.
Need help. Greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Downgrade Lion/Mountain Lion to Snow Leopard
      1. Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer Disc. After the installer
loads select your language and click on the Continue
button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the
          Utilities menu.
      2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the
mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status
of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then
the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART
info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on
the Partition tab in the DU main window.
      3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions
from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS
Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the
partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on
the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
      4. Quit DU and return to the installer. Install Snow Leopard.
This will erase the whole drive so be sure to backup your files if you don't have a backup already. If you have performed a TM backup using Lion be aware that you cannot restore from that backup in Snow Leopard (see below.) I suggest you make a separate backup using Carbon Copy Cloner.
If you have Snow Leopard Time Machine backups, do a full system restore per #14 in Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions.  If you have subsequent backups from Lion, you can restore newer items selectively, via the "Star Wars" display, per #15 there, but be careful; some Snow Leopard apps may not work with the Lion files.

  • When upgrading to mountain lion, computer froze.

When upgrading to mountain lion, computer freezed. Hearing beep from hard drive. What should I do?

After doing what a brody suggested, try an SMC reset. The article covers when this is required, but doing this will not affect anything.
    Reset SMC
If the problem is still there, try booting into the Safe Mode.  Shut down the computer and then power it back up. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application unistaller. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.

I have just purchased an iphone and I am trying to get facebook on my phone. When I get the app to upload it is asking for my apple password. I put that into the phone and it gives me a message "your apple id has been disabled." Now when I log into apple i have no problem with my apple id or the password. you need to contact iTunes store support for that, it's possible that they will refer you to an AppleCare Account Security Team
    1. Go to expresslane.apple.com
    2. select 'itunes' and then 'itunes store' on the right
    3. select a topic and a subject
    4. click 'continue' and then 'email'
    5. fill out the form and explain your situation
    6. they will respond within 24 hours usually
    Good luck

  • Icloud not asking for id or password when I try to sign in? Valuable travel pics disappeared???

months worth of travel pics disappeared from my ipad and iPhone! I'm unable to contact apple help as I'm in Nicaragua at the moment. When I try to sign in to icloud it does not ask for id or password, it only offers set up options??? Please help, not very iOS literate!!??

    Hi appledapple1964,
After changing your Apple ID information, you may need to manually sign out and sign back in on your devices so that they may recognize the update. You may find the following article helpful:

  • Lost use of word for mac 2004 when upgraded to mountain lion OSX

IVe just upgraded to Mountain Lion OSX and lost use of word for Mac 2004. how can i get in to work again

Office 2004 and Other Applications Don't Work in Lion/Mountain Lion
If you have Office 2004 which is a PPC-only suite, it will not work in Lion/Mountain Lion. You need to upgrade to Office 2011 - Mactopia - or you can try the freeware suite, Libre Office, that is functionally similar to Office 2007 for Windows except it works on Lion/Mountain Lion.
You may want to consider as well:
These two suites are similar to Libre Office but not as current or as well-supported:
    NeoOffice
    Open Office
And, then there is Apple's iWork suite:
Pages - word processing and layout
    Keynote - presentation
    Numbers - spreadsheet
Each can open and save Office compatible files. They may be purchased separately via the Mac App Store for $19.99 each.
As for other software, any PPC-based software will not run in Lion or Mountain Lion because Rosetta is no longer part of OS X. You will need to upgrade to Intel versions of the software.
(Access to the Mac App Store requires Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or higher and an Apple ID.)

  • Cannot change account picture after upgrading to Mountain Lion.

After upgrading to Mountain Lion from Snow Leopard I cannot change account picture anymore.
The box which is supposed to contain picture previews just says "No items".
    Screenshot attached:
This is not limited to a particular account, trying to change the picture within any account leads to this problem.
Is there any solution for the issue?
    Thank you in advance.

    Thank you for the answer.
Sure I can drag a photo to the users profile and it works but those Default ones were quite useful for having no mess with setting custom picture.
MacBook Pro with same Snow Leopard -> Mountain Lion upgrade did not have such issue.
